Das Recycling von Faserverbundkunststoffen (FVK) ist technisch anspruchsvoll und bedingt die getrennte Erfassung sowie eine aufwendige Demontage. Es findet aktuell in Deutschland kaum statt. Hinzu kommt, dass die derzeitigen Abfallmengen an carbon- und glasfaserverstärkten Kunststoffabfällen (CFK und GFK-Abfälle) gering sind. Das Recycling der ressourceneffizienten Leichtbauwerkstoffe gilt als unwirtschaftlich. Die durchgeführte Marktstudie für Sportboote und Leichtflugzeuge sowie Bedarfsgegenständen aus CFK legt den Verbleib der entsprechenden Altprodukte dar und zeigt, dass die FVK-haltigen Abfälle dieser Produktgruppen sowie teilweise auch die vollständigen Produkte der hochwertigen Verwertung verloren gehen. Das ist von erheblichem ökologischem Nachteil. Eine Bündelung und ein gemeinsames Recycling dieser drei Produktgruppen mit anderen FVK-haltigen Abfällen (z.B. Rotorblätter von Windenergieanlagen und bestimmte Bauprodukten) erscheint ökologisch sinnvoll und praktikabel im Sinne einer hochwertigen, schadlosen und wirtschaftlich zumutbaren Abfallverwertung. Vor diesem Hintergrund ist es Ziel dieses Vorhabens, ein Kreislaufkonzept für Sportboote und Leichtflugzeuge sowie Bedarfsgegenständen aus CFK zu entwickeln. Um ein hochwertiges Recycling zu ermöglichen, müssen Bauteile aus FVK separat erfasst werden. Hierzu wurden detaillierte Handlungsanweisungen für die Trockenlegung, Demontage und Zerkleinerung von Sportbooten und Leichtflugzeugen sowie Möglichkeiten zur Sammlung und Rücknahme von CFK-haltigen Bedarfsgegenständen erarbeitet. Das Konzept schließt die systematische Wiederverwendung und Vorbereitung zur Wiederverwendung ein. Aus Sicht des Umweltschutzes kritische Punkte der Abfallverwertung wurden erkannt, beschrieben und Vorschläge für den sicheren Umgang mit Abfällen erarbeitet. Diese umfassen neben grundlegend wichtigen Empfehlungen zur Verwertung und der Nutzung digitaler Konzepte auch die Berücksichtigung politischer und organisatorischer Instrumente. Die Instrumente umfassen die Einführung von technischen Standards basierend auf den im Rahmen der Studie entwickelten Handlungsanweisungen, die Fortentwicklung bestehender Recyclingverfahren, den digitalen Produktpasses für Sportboote und freiwillige Rücknahmesysteme für CFK-haltige Bedarfsgegenstände. Eine wichtige formale Voraussetzung für die spezialisierte Verwertung ist die Einführung entsprechender Abfallschlüssel, was eine Änderung des Europäischen Abfallverzeichnisses erfordert., Recycling products with fibre reinforced plastics (FRP) is technically demanding and requires separate collection as well as adjusted dismantling procedures. There is currently hardly any such recycling taking place in Germany. In addition, the quantities of carbon and glass fibre reinforced plastic waste (CFRP and GFRP waste) are low. Recycling of these resource efficient, lightweight materials is not regarded as economically viable. The market study carried out in the course of the project for sports boats and light aircrafts as well as consumer goods made of CFRP shows the whereabouts of the end-of-life products and shows that the FRP-containing waste of these product groups, and actually the whole product, is currently lost to high-quality recycling. This is a considerable environmental burden. Bundling and joint recycling of these three product groups with other waste containing FRP (e.g. wind turbine blades and certain construction products) could be useful and feasible in establishing a high valuable, non-polluting and economical waste treatment. Against this background, the aim of this project is to develop a circular concept for sports boats and light aircrafts with FRP as well as consumer goods made of CFRP. In order to enable high-quality recycling, components made of FRP must be collected separately. For this purpose, detailed guidelines for the draining, dismantling and shredding of sports boats and light aircrafts as well as possibilities for the collection and taking back of consumer goods containing CFRP were developed. The concepts include measures for reuse and preparation for reuse. Critical issues of waste treatment procedures from the point of view of environmental protection were recognized and described, and measures for safe treatment were recommended. These are fundamentally important recommendations for recycling and the use of digital concepts but also the consideration of political and organizational instruments. These instruments include the introduction of standards based on the developed guidelines and further development of existing recycling processes, a digital product passport for sports boats and voluntary take-back systems for consumer goods containing CFRP. An important legal prerequisite for any specialized waste treatment are waste codes, which implies the need of the revision of the European List of Wastes.
