We investigated four European domestic shorthair kittens with skin lesions consistent with the dermatosparaxis type of the Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS), a connective tissue disorder. The kittens were sired by the same tomcat, but were born by three different mothers. The kittens had easily torn skin resulting in non-healing skin wounds. Both clinically and histologically, the skin showed thin epidermis in addition to inflammatory changes. Changes in collagen fibers were visible in electron micrographs. The complete genome of an affected kitten was sequenced. A one base pair duplication leading to a frameshift in the candidate gene ADAMTS2 was identified, p.(Ser235fs*3). All four affected cats carried the frameshift duplication in a homozygous state. Genotypes at this variant showed perfect co-segregation with the autosomal recessive EDS phenotype in the available family. The mutant allele did not occur in 48 unrelated control cats. ADAMTS2 loss-of-function variants cause autosomal recessive forms of EDS in humans, mice, dogs, cattle and sheep. The available evidence from our investigation together with the functional knowledge on ADAMTS2 in other species allow to classify the identified ADAMTS2 variant as pathogenic and most likely causative variant for the observed EDS.

The purpose of the data collection is to evaluate a new intervention as part of a research study. In the current project, we will develop and test the effectiveness of a new bot-based universal prevention program aimed at improving well-being. This prevention program includes a variety of modules that target common areas related to well-being including interpersonal relationships, emotional regulation, beliefs and behaviors, problem-solving, sleep hygiene, goal setting, personal growth, and healthy habits. The intervention modules are based on existing empirically supported intervention techniques from traditional cognitive-behavioral therapies and other third generation therapies such as mindfulness training and dialectical behavioral therapy. The focus of the program is to introduce psychological concepts that have been shown to be effective for managing emotions and problems to a broader public audience. Another focus is on helping individuals connect with resources that are available related to subjective well-being. Often individuals who may be interested in self-help interventions do not know where to seek help and interventions that they may find (e.g., apps), may not be scientifically valid. Providing recommendations on resources that are specific to an individual’s needs through an interactive bot may reduce one barrier to care. The focus of this project is not only on testing the effectiveness of the program on well-being compared to an online control condition in a randomized controlled trial, but on improving REACH to individuals who may benefit from such an intervention. Thus, the focus is on brief, low burden assessments, rather than a full battery typical in psychological studies, to improve acceptability, recruitment rates, and retention rates. We will use the implementation science model, RE-AIM (Glasgow, Vogt & Bowles, 1999) as a framework for this study (http://www.re-aim.org/). The model includes addressing the following components: R = REACH E = EFFECTIVENESS A = ADOPTION I = IMPLEMENTATION M = MAINTENANCE.

In Europe, more than 75 million adults (18%) are considered to be socially isolated and around 30 million report feeling lonely (7%). Aging can contribute to social isolation and loneliness, which are risk factors for poorer mental and physical health. Family relationships are an important source of social support and have considerable consequences for the health and well-being of older adults. However, close contacts within the family are decreasing due to geographical distances, limited mobility, and social distancing restrictions since COVID-19. Digital communication and information technologies (ICT), offer a tool for families to remain socially connected. Research further suggests that ICT have the potential to enhance the quality of lives of older adults by facilitating social connectedness, building social support, and reducing social isolation and feelings of loneliness. This is particularly true when ICT is being used with existing social relationships. However, results for loneliness are still mixed in conclusion. An increasing number of older people is interested and willing to use ICT but many refuse to use them because they feel scared, intimidated, or lack knowledge and support. Therefore, we developed a brief psychoeducational intervention to help grandparents using ICT to connect with their grandchildren. The primary aim of this study is to examine whether this intervention increases the quality and quantity of social interactions between grandparents and grandchildren, and decreases social isolation and loneliness over time. The secondary aim is to test the efficacy of this brief psychoeducational intervention compared to a waitlist control condition in a randomized controlled trial (RCT).

To identify the essential nutrients in this medium, different groups of nutrients: nucleobases/-sides, amino acids and vitamins were formed as a first step. Each group was omitted in one experiment. Omitting the nucleobases/-sides showed no effect on growth. An auxotrophy for these nutrients could therefore be excluded. Since the strain did not grow both without amino acids and without vitamins, some of these nutrients have to be essential for B. pumilus DSM 18097. Das Management von Sportbranchen unterteilt seine Zielmärkte in Zuschauer-, Sportler- und spezifische Folgemärkte (NUFER & BÜHLER 2010: 12). Für die Galopprennbranche werden im vorliegenden Beitrag der Sportlermarkt mit den dazugehörigen Akteuren zunächst hinsichtlich Struktur und Entwicklung dargestellt und folgend der Besitz, die Zucht und der Handel von Vollblutpferden analysiert, um Handlungsempfehlungen für die Förderung des Galopprennsports aussprechen zu können.

Sallat, Stephan [Hrsg.]; Spreer, Markus [Hrsg.]; Glück, Christian W. [Hrsg.]: Sprache professionell fördern. Idstein : Schulz-Kirchner Verlag 2014, S. 356-360, Probleme bei der Pluralbildung im Deutschen sind bei mehrsprachig aufwachsenden Kindern häufig anzutreffen. Die vorgestellte Studie erprobt das Förderpotential von Hörgeschichten, indem untersucht wird, ob eine kurzzeitige intensive Förderphase, in der ausschließlich auditiver Input angeboten wird, zu Fortschritten in der Beherrschung dieses komplexen Systems beitragen kann. Dazu wurde ein Lernexperiment mit 30 bilingualen Kindern zwischen fünf und sechs Jahren durchgeführt. Das Design umfasst eine dreiteilige Baseline, in der Pluralformen von 60 Nomen und 14 Pseudowörtern zu drei Zeitpunkten (vor und unmittelbar nach der Förderphase sowie drei Wochen nach deren Ablauf) elizitiert wurden. Die Förderphase bestand in einer über zehn Werktage andauernden, täglichen Präsentation von Hörgeschichten, in denen alle Pluralsuffixe des Deutschen in einer entwicklungsorientierten Reihenfolge eingeführt und im Kontrast zur Singularform frequent angeboten wurden (Material und Audioaufnahmen aus Kauschke & Siegmüller 2012).Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass sich die Kinder in der Pluralbildung signifikant verbesserten und dass dieser Effekt auch nach der Förderphase anhielt. Die Verbesserungen bei Wörtern betrafen nicht nur die in den Geschichten präsentierten Wörter, sondern ebenfalls vergleichbare Kontrollwörter, was auf einen Generalisierungseffekt hinweist. In Subgruppenvergleichen wurde dann genauer überprüft, welche Kinder besonders von der Förderung profitierten. Dabei stellte sich heraus, dass deutlichere Zugewinne bei den Kindern auftraten, die simultan zweisprachig aufwuchsen und daher bereits über größere sprachliche Vorerfahrung im Deutschen verfügten als sukzessiv bilinguale Kinder mit kürzerer Kontaktdauer. Dagegen zeigte ein Vergleich zwischen jeweils fünf Kindern mit russischer und türkischer Herkunftssprache, dass die Art der Erstsprache keinen Einfluss auf den Lernerfolg hatte. Die positiven Ergebnisse dieser Pilotstudie bestätigen die Wirksamkeit von gezieltem auditiven Input in der Sprachförderung und erweitern so den bestehenden Forschungsstand zur Sprachförderung im Vorschulalter.

Im Mai 2011 stellte Deutschland als einer der letzten EU-Staaten die Arbeitnehmerfreizügigkeit für Bürger der acht neuen EU-Mitgliedstaaten her. Nach Aufhebung der Arbeitserlaubnispflicht wurde ein zunehmender Wettbewerb zwischen verschiedenen Branchen um Saisonarbeitskräfte aus diesen Ländern erwartet. Für die Landwirtschaft, die bislang schon Saisonarbeitskräfte aus Osteuropa einsetzen konnte, ergeben sich damit neue Herausforderungen im Bereich des Personalmanagements. Vor diesem Hintergrund analysiert diese Studie, welche Faktoren Saisonarbeitskräfte bei der Arbeitsplatzwahl beeinflussen, welche Anforderungen die Arbeitskräfte an die Saisonarbeit stellen und welche Implikationen für das Personalmanagement in landwirtschaftlichen Betrieben sich daraus ableiten lassen.

Ziel der Dissertation war die Evaluation einer auf der Depressionsstation am ZIP Kiel durchgeführten psychoedukativen Gruppenbehandlung für depressive Patienten. Dabei wurde der Fokus auf einen Aspekt gelegt, der im Verlauf chronischer Erkrankungen regelhaft einen wichtigen Stellenwert einnimmt, nämlich die Ungewissheit. Verschiedene Qualitäten von Ungewissheiten wurden durch einen Fragebogen vor und nach Teilnahme an der Depressionsgruppe erfasst und die Ergebnisse ausgewertet.
