This impairs decision-making regarding bone health interventions.Aim: We aimed to establish the age-specific fracture rates in children with CP with and without epilepsy in Denmark.Materials and Methods: Data from Danish registers were combined to establish cohorts of children with and without CP born in Denmark from 1997 to 2007. Fracture rates were calculated for 1997– 2016.Results: We identified 1,451 children with CP and 787,159 without CP. Female/male fracture rates per 1,000 person-years were 23/27 with CP and 23/29 without CP. Male sex, epilepsy and anti-seizure medication, but not the diagnosis of CP or GMFCS-level, were associated with higher fracture rates. Relatively more lower extremity fractures occurred in non-ambulant children with CP.Interpretation/Conclusion: We found no increased fracture rates in children with CP when compared to peers; however, fracture locations suggested bone fragility in non-ambulant children. All children with epilepsy and on anti-seizure medication had increased fracture rates. Study population: The database includes children with CP aged 0–15 years and children with symptoms of CP aged 0–5 years. Main variables: In the follow-up program, the children are offered examinations throughout their childhood by orthopedic surgeons, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and pediatricians. Examinations of gross and fine motor function, manual ability, muscle tone, passive range of motion, use of orthotics, and assistive devices are performed once a year; radiographic examination of the hips is planned based on the child's age and gross motor function; and the diagnosis is performed once before the age of 5 years. Six indicators were developed based on scientific literature and consensus in the steering committee, and their calculation is based on the following four main variables: radiographic examination of the hip, gross motor function, manual ability, and diagnosis. Descriptive data: The 2014 annual report includes results of the quality indicators in three of five regions in Denmark comprising 432 children with CP, corresponding to a coverage of 82% of the expected population. Conclusion: The Danish Cerebral Palsy Follow-up Program is currently under development as a national clinical quality database in Denmark. The database holds potential for research in prevalence, clinical characteristics of the population, and the effects of prevention and treatment. Fourty-three patients with oral mucosal lesions were divided into 3 groups based on the relationship between lesions and amalgam restorations. Group I consisted of patients with contact lesions confined to mucosal areas in contact with amalgam fillings. Group II patients had lichen planus lesions exceeding the area of contact with an amalgam filling and Group III comprised patients with lichen planus lesions without relation to amalgam fillings. Biopsies were embedded in epon and subjected to autometallography in order to demonstrate a possible accumulation of mercury in the affected mucosa. In 20 our of 21 patients in Group I, 4 of 11 patients in Group II and 4 of 11 patients in Group III, mercury was found in the lysosomes of macrophages and fibroblasts. In Group I the number of cells loaded with mercury was much higher than in Group II and in particular Group III. In the latter groups autometallographically demonstrated mercury was found almost exclusively in macrophages. Nineteen biopsies taken from patients with normal mucosa served as controls. Ten had occlusal (Group IV) and seven buccal fillings (Group V). The biopsies from the latter group were taken from areas opposing amalgam restorations. Two patients had no amalgam fillings (Group VI). The histochemical technique showed that three biopsies in Group IV (occlusal fillings only) and two in Group V (opposing buccal fillings) contained traces of mercury in the juxtaepithelial connective tissue. During 1986, all sports injuries (n = 5222) were prospectively recorded at the two casualty departments in Arhus, Denmark. Volleyball injuries (n = 278) accounted for 5.3% of all sports injuries. An evaluation of the rehabilitation period and the consequences of the injuries was undertaken by questionnaire three years after the injury. The injury incidence was 1.9 injuries/1000 inhabitants/year. Hand, finger, and ankle sprains were the most frequent injuries. Female players had significantly more hand/finger injuries than male players, who incurred more ankle/foot injuries. Knee (6%) and ankle injuries (31%) were responsible for the longest duration of absence from sports participation. There were relatively few chronic injuries. The study suggests the need to enhance prophylactic measures with regard to blocking and overhand pass techniques, in order to reduce the number and extent of ankle and hand/finger injuries. In a one year period, from 1 January 1986 to 31 December 1986, 4303 patients with sports injuries were treated at Aarhus Amtssygehus and Aarhus Kommunehospital. The mean age was 21.6 years (range 7-72 years) and 2830 were men. Two hundred and seventeen badminton injuries occurred in 208 patients (136 men) with a mean age of 29.6 years (range 7-57 years), constituting 4.1 percent of all sport injuries in Aarhus. Joints and ligaments were injured in 58.5 percent of the patients, most frequently located in the lower limb and significantly more often among patients younger than 30 years of age. Muscle injury occurred in 19.8 percent of the patients. This type of injury was significantly more frequent among patients older than 30 years of age. Most injuries were minor. However, 6.8 percent of the patients were hospitalized and 30.9 percent received additional treatment by a physician. As the risk of injury varies with age, attempts to plan training individually and to institute prophylactic measures should be made. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
