Recent progress in laser-based high-repetition rate extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lightsources and multidimensional photoelectron spectroscopy enable the build-up of a new generation of time-resolved photoemission experiments. Here, we present a setup for time-resolved momentum microscopy driven by a 1 MHz femtosecond EUV table-top light source optimized for the generation of 26.5 eV photons. The setup provides simultaneous access to the temporal evolution of the photoelectron's kinetic energy and in-plane momentum. We discuss opportunities and limitations of our new experiment based on a series of static and time-resolved measurements on graphene.

We present energy-resolved photoelectron momentum maps for orbital tomography that have been collected with a novel and efficient time-of-flight momentum microscopy setup. This setup is combined with a 0.5 MHz table-top femtosecond extreme-ultraviolet light source, which enables unprecedented speed in data collection and paves the way towards time-resolved orbital imaging experiments in the future. Moreover, we take a significant step forward in the data analysis procedure for orbital imaging, and present a sparsity-driven approach to the required phase retrieval problem, which uses only the number of non-zero pixels in the orbital. Here, no knowledge of the object support is required, and the sparsity number can easily be determined from the measured data. Used in the relaxed averaged alternating reflections algorithm, this sparsity constraint enables fast and reliable phase retrieval for our experimental as well as noise-free and noisy simulated photoelectron momentum map data.

COVID-19 pandemic ,PEOPLE with intellectual disabilities ,HUMAN comfort - Abstract
During the COVID-19 pandemic, drastic measures to interrupt SARS-CoV-2 infection chains were implemented. In our study we investigated the consequences of pandemic related restrictions on the social, psychological, and physical well-being of institutionalized adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Methods: Online survey among professional caregivers in 71 residential groups, caring for 848 residents. Findings: (i.) A lack of participation concerning infection protection measures of the residents, their relatives, and their caregivers; (ii.) A 20% increase in doctor contacts during the pandemic; (iii.) A considerable deterioration in at least one item of the subdomains mood (49%), everyday skills (51%), social interaction (29%), exercise and coordination skills (12%), behavior (11%) and cognition and communication (7%); (iv.) A deterioration of the overall condition in 41%; Summery: Intensive attempts should be made to find individual and less categorical contra-infectious measures without questioning the basic everyday needs of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Astrophysics - Abstract
We investigate if dust emission in the far-IR continuum provides a robust estimate of star formation rate (SFR) for a nearby, normal late-type galaxy. We focus on the ratio of the 40--1000 micron luminosity (L_dust) to the far-UV (0.165 micron luminosity, which is connected to recent episodes of star formation. Available total photometry at 0.165, 60, 100 and 170 micron limits the statistics to 30 galaxies, which, however, span a large range in observed (and, thus, attenuated by dust) K-band (2.2 micron) luminosity, morphology and inclination (i). This sample shows that the ratio of L_dust to the observed far-UV luminosity depends not only on i, as expected, but also on morphology and, in a tighter way, on observed K-band luminosity. We find that L_dust/L_FUV is proportional to e^(-tau_K) (alpha+0.62) (L_K)^(0.62), where L_FUV and L_K are the unattenuated stellar luminosities in far-UV and K, respectively, and alpha is the ratio of the attenuation optical depths at 0.165 micron (tau_FUV) and 2.2 micron (tau_K). This relation is to zeroth order independent of i and morphology. It may be further expressed as L_dust/L_FUV proportional to (L_K)^delta, where delta = 0.61 - 0.02 alpha, under the observationally-motivated assumption that, for an average inclination, e^(-tau_K) is proportional to (L_K)^(-0.02). We adopt calculations of two different models of attenuation of stellar light by internal dust to derive solid-angle averaged values of alpha. We find that delta is positive and decreases towards 0 from the more luminous to the less luminous galaxies. This means that there is no universal ratio of far-IR luminosity to unattenuated far-UV luminosity for nearby, normal late-type galaxies. Astrophysics - Abstract
A new set of evolutionary synthesis spectra are presented for {\bf S}imple {\bf S}tellar {\bf P}opulations ({\bf SSP}s) covering ranges in metallicity from $ 0.02 \leq Z/Z_{\odot} \leq 2.5$ and ages from $4\cdot 10^6$ yr $\leq t \leq 16$ Gyr. They are based on the most recent isochrones from the Padova group that extend earlier models by the inclusion of the thermal pulsing AGB phase for stars in the mass range $2 M_{\odot} \leq m \leq 7 M_{\odot}$ in accordance with the fuel consumption theorem. We show that with respect to earlier models, inclusion of the TP-AGB phase leads to significant changes in the $(V-I)$ and $(V-K)$ colors of SSPs. Using model atmosphere spectra from Lejeune et al, we calculate the spectral evolution of single burst populations of various metallicities. Isochrone spectra are convolved with filter response functions to describe the time evolution of luminosities and colors in various filter systems. The models and their results are not only intended for use in the interpretation of star clusters but also for combination with any kind of dynamical galaxy formation and/or evolution model that contains a star formation criterion. We also present the time evolution of ejection rates for gas and metals for two different {\bf I}nitial {\bf M}ass {\bf F}unctions ({\bf IMF}s) as well as cosmological and evolutionary corrections for all the filters as a function of redshift and two different cosmologies. Extensive data files are provided in the electronic version, at CDS, and at our above www-address., Comment: 12 pages, using AA LaTeX vers. 4.01, accepted for A&A

Astrophysics - Abstract
We describe the evolution of galaxies in a chemically consistent way accounting for the increasing initial metallicity of successive generations of stars. The enrichment of various types of model galaxies is compared with Damped Ly$\alpha$ (= DLA) abundances over the redshift range from ${\rm z \sim 0}$ through ${\rm z > 4.4}$. We discuss properties and composition of the galaxy population giving rise to DLA absorption. Beyond evolution of individual galaxies a change is found in the composition of DLA galaxy samples from high to low redshift. Spectrophotometric properties are predicted for optical identifications of DLA galaxies., Comment: 4 pages, using moriond.sty, Proceedings of the XIXth Moriond Astrophysics Meeting `Building Galaxies: from the Primordial Universe to the Present', Les Arcs, March 1999

Astrophysics - Abstract
As a tool to interpret nearby and high redshift galaxy data from optical to K-band we present our chemically consistent spectrophotometric evolutionary synthesis models. These models take into account the increasing initial metallicity of successive stellar generations using recently published metallicity dependent stellar evolutionary tracks, stellar yields and model atmosphere spectra. The influence of the metallicity is analysed. Dust absorption is included on the basis of gas content and abundance as it varies with time and galaxy type. We compare our models with IUE template spectra and are able to predict UV fluxes for different spectral types. Combined with a cosmological model we obtain evolutionary and k-corrections for various galaxy types and show the differences to models using only solar metallicity input physics as a function of redshift, wavelength band and galaxy type., Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures, to appear in the proceedings of the conference "The Evolution of Galaxies on Cosmological Timescales", Tenerife, Spain, December 1998

Astrophysics - Abstract
We extend our spiral galaxy models that successfully describe nearby template spectra as well as the redshift evolution of CFRS and HDF spirals to include - in a chemically consistent way - the redshift evolution of a series of individual elements. Comparison with observed DLA abundances shows that DLAs might well be the progenitors of present-day spiral types Sa through Sd. Our models bridge the gap between high redshift DLA and nearby spiral HII region abundances. The slow redshift evolution of DLA abundances is a natural consequence of the long SF timescales for disks, the scatter at any redshift reflects the range of SF timescales from early to late spiral types. We claim that while at high redshift all spiral progenitor types seem to give rise to DLA absorption, towards low redshifts, the early type spirals seem to drop out of DLA samples due to low gas and/or high metal and dust content. Model implications for the spectrophotometric properties of the DLA galaxy population are discussed in the context of campaigns for the optical identifications of DLA galaxies both at low and high redshift., Comment: 8 pages, using kluwer LaTeX macro, Proceedings "The Evolution of Galaxies on Cosmological Timescales"

Astrophysics - Abstract
Comparison of our chemically consistent models for spiral galaxies with observed DLA abundances shows that at high redshift DLA galaxies may well be the progenitors of normal spiral disks of all types from Sa through Sd. Towards lower redshifts z = 1.5 however, early type spirals drop out of DLA samples due to low gas or/and high dust content. We use the spectrophotometric aspects of our unified spectral, chemical, and cosmological evolution models to predict expected luminosities in different bands for DLA galaxies at various redshifts and compare to the few optical identifications available., Comment: 5 pages, using LAMUPHYS LaTeX macro Springer, version 1.0, ESO Workshop "Chemical Evolution from Zero to High Redshift"

Astrophysics - Abstract
Evolutionary synthesis models for Tidal Dwarf Galaxies (TDGs) are presented that allow to have varying proportions of young stars formed in the merger-induced starburst and of stars from the merging spirals' disks. The specific metallicities as well as the gaseous emission of actively star forming TDGs are consistently accounted for. Comparison of models with observational data (e.g. Duc, this volume) gives information on the present evolutionary state and possible future luminosity evolution of TDGs. The redshift evolution of merger rates and of the gas content and metallicities of spiral galaxies are used to estimate the number of TDGs at various redshifts and to investigate their contribution to magnitude limited surveys., Comment: 4 pages Latex, using moriond.sty To appear in Dwarf Galaxies and Cosmology, eds. Usher syndrome is an autosomal recessive disorder characterised by retinitis pigmentosa and congenital sensorineural hearing loss. A gene for Usher syndrome type II (USH2) has been localised to chromosome 1q32-q41. DNA from a family with four of seven sibs affected with clinical characteristics of Usher syndrome type II was genotyped using markers spanning the 1q32-1q41 region. These included D1S70 and D1S81, which are believed to flank USH2. Genotypic results and subsequent linkage analysis indicated non-linkage of this family to these markers. The A test analysis for heterogeneity with this family and 32 other Usher type II families was statistically significant at p < 0.05. Further clinical evaluation of this family was done in light of the linkage results to determine if any phenotypic characteristics would allow for clinical identification of the unlinked type. No clear phenotypic differences were observed; however, this unlinked family may represent a previously unreported subtype of Usher type II characterised by a milder form of retinitis pigmentosa and mild vestibular abnormalities. Heterogeneity of Usher syndrome type II complicates efforts to isolate and clone Usher syndrome genes using linkage analysis and limits the use of DNA markers in early detection of Usher type II.
