3. Privacy-preserving smart meter control strategy including energy storage losses

Abstract

Privacy-preserving smart meter control strategies proposed in the literature so far make some ideal assumptions such as instantaneous control without delay, lossless energy storage systems etc. In this paper, we present a one-step-ahead predictive control strategy using Bayesian risk to measure and control privacy leakage with an energy storage system. The controller estimates energy state using a three-circuit energy storage model to account for steady-state energy losses. With numerical experiments, the controller is evaluated with real household consumption data using a state-of-the-art adversarial algorithm. Results show that the state estimation of the energy storage system significantly affects the controller's performance. The results also show that the privacy leakage can be effectively reduced using an energy storage system but at the expense of energy loss., Comment: 6 pages

Abstract

We consider the distribution of free path lengths, or the distance between consecutive bounces of random particles, in an n-dimensional rectangular box. If each particle travels a distance R, then, as R tends to infinity the free path lengths coincides with the distribution of the length of the intersection of a random line with the box (for a natural ensemble of random lines) and we give an explicit formula (piecewise real analytic) for the probability density function in dimension two and three. In dimension two we also consider a closely related model where each particle is allowed to bounce N times, as N tends to infinity, and give an explicit (again piecewise real analytic) formula for its probability density function. Further, in both models we can recover the side lengths of the box from the location of the discontinuities of the probability density functions., Comment: 25 pages, 4 figures

Abstract

Abstract-It is argued that it is the intent behind the electromagnetic interference in intentional electromagnetic interference (IEMI) that causes problems to large distributed systems and facilities even if they are designed by traditional zoning concept rules. Hardening such facilities against IEMI requires a correspondence between the electromagnetic zone boundary and the physical access control boundary. The three characteristics of a facility, the accessibility, susceptibility, and consequence, are discussed in the context of vulnerability to IEMI. Abstract

In this paper, the vulnerability of the future electrified railway system in Europe from a high-power microwave (HPM) source is investigated. The scenario of in-band disturbances radiated toward a GSM-R antenna and damaging the connected communications system is evaluated for different classes of HPM sources and situations. The minimum realistic distances for the different HPM sources from the antenna to cause permanent damage is shown, and the severity of threat from the different sources is discussed. Abstract

This paper investigates the propagation of sub- nanosecond rise time (ultra wideband) voltage transients in low-voltage installation power cables. Experimental results are compared to simulations. It is concluded that the main mode of propagation of differentially injected transients in low-voltage installation power cables is transverse electromagnetic mode. Also, such transients would spread relatively unattenuated to any load or junction in the power system, received power primarily only limited by the impedance mismatches causing reflections. The effects of different types of bends in the cable have been studied. The study was conducted as a part of an assessment of the susceptibility of civilian facilities to intentional electromagnetic interference. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
