26. Improvement of photocatalytic hydrogen production performance of ZnO with Bi2X3 (X = Te, Se).

Abstract

Harnessing photocatalysts to facilitate the visible-light-driven breakdown of water molecules is esteemed as a highly auspicious and ecologically sustainable approach for hydrogen production. This study aimed to improve the hydrogen production performance of single ZnO photocatalysts by preparing efficient Bi2Te3/ZnO and Bi2Se3/ZnO composite photocatalysts by microwave method. During the synthesis process, both Bi2Te3 and Bi2Se3 were fully fused and reacted with ZnO to form heterojunctions using magnetic stirring and microwave heating. The experimental results indicate a significant enhancement in the hydrogen production activity of the BT-Z and BS-Z composite photocatalysts. When the Bi2Te3 content is 5%, with a microwave temperature maintained at 135 °C and a microwave time of 90 min, the hydrogen production rate reaches 664.286 μmol∙h−1∙g−1 within 4 hr. On the other hand, when the Bi2Se3 content is 5%, with a microwave temperature maintained at 135 °C and a microwave time of 90 min, the hydrogen production rate reaches 515.306 μmol∙h−1∙g−1 within 4 hr. Abstract

Herein, Cu3P was used as a co-catalyst to improve the separation efficiency of photogenerated carriers in WSe2 photocatalysts. The metallic nature of Cu3P and its noble metal-like properties make it an affordable and efficient co-catalyst. The experimental results revealed that the photocatalytic activity of the WSe2/Cu3P (WP) sample was significantly higher under visible light with an average hydrogen evolution rate (HER) of 616.50 μmol h−1 g−1 and a quantum yield of 23.75%. In contrast, the average HER of the pure WSe2 sample was only 298.46 μmol h−1 g−1. The preparation parameters were optimized by a single-factor test. The optimal preparation parameters were as follows. The loading of Cu3P was 8%, and the calcination time and temperature were 2.0 h and 300 °C, respectively. An innovative exploration of the photocatalytic memory effect of WP photocatalyst was carried out. The analysis of the experimental results displayed that the HER of the WP photocatalyst under dark conditions reached 418.50 μmol h−1 g−1 after 5.0 h post-illumination. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

44. EFFECT OF MECHANICAL ACTIVATION ON THE POZZOLANIC ACTIVITY OF MUSCOVITE

Abstract

In order to provide a theoretical foundation for the utilization of tailings as supplementary cementitious materials, the pozzolanic activity of muscovite—a typical mineral phase in tailings—before and after mechanical activation was investigated. In this study, significant pozzolanic activity of muscovite was obtained as a result of the structural and morphological changes that were induced by mechanical activation. The activated muscovite that was obtained after mechanical activation for 160 min satisfies the requirements for use as an active supplementary cementitious material, and the main characteristics of the pozzolana were as follows: median particle size (D50) of 11.7 μm, BET specific surface area of 28.82 m2g−1, relative crystallinity of 14.99%, and pozzolanic activity index of 94.36%. Continuous grinding led to a gradual reduction in the relative crystallinity and an increase in the pozzolanic activity index due to the dehydroxylation reaction induced by mechanical activation, which occurred despite the fact that the specific surface area showed a decreasing trend when the grinding time was prolonged. Mechanically activated muscovite exhibited the capacity to react with calcium hydroxide to form calcium silicate hydrate, which is a typical characteristic of pozzolana. This experimental study provided a theoretical basis for evaluating the pozzolanic activity of muscovite using mechanical activation.
