22. Improved Singlet Oxygen Production by Synergistic Effect via a Dual-Core Photosensitizer Doped Polymer Fibrous Films: Synthesis and Performance

Abstract

Singlet oxygen (1O2) is a common reactive oxygen species that has found wide application in wastewater processing, photochemical synthesis, and photodynamic therapy. In this paper, a dual-core metal [a Re(I)-based component and a Gd(III)-based component] photosensitizer was synthesized and doped into polymer fibrous films for 1O2 generation. Here the Re(I)-based component is responsible for the photosensitizing reaction which directly transformed 3O2 to 1O2, while the Gd(III)-based component served as an auxiliary part that assisted the transformation from 3O2 to 1O2via synergistic effect by its triplet excited ligands. The photophysical parameters of this photosensitizer (denoted as Re-Gd) and its fibrous films (denoted as Re-Gd@PVP) were carefully recorded, discussed, and compared. It was found that the excited state lifetime and photostability of Re-Gd were both improved after being doped into fibrous films, favoring 1O2 generation. The 1O2 generation performance comparison between Re-Gd in the solid state, in solution, and fibrous films suggested that 1O2 generation performance was indeed improved by the electrospinning films. In addition, the positive factor of synergistic effect on improving 1O2-producing efficiency was confirmed by comparing Re-Gd@PVP films with reference films with a single-core metal photosensitizer having no synergistic effect.

Abstract

Amyloid‐β (Aβ) fibrils play a pivotal role in driving neuroinflammation and the progression of tau pathology in Alzheimer's disease (AD). In addition, Aβ oligomers are presumed to be closely associated with pathogenesis of AD. Currently, although a few Aβ antibodies are available, fluorescent probes still play an important role in detecting Aβ pathology. Herein, we designed and synthesized a pyridyl zinc chelate KZ and tested its potential specificity to Aβ species. The probe KZ showed a good binding to fibrillar Aβ aggregates and an excellent anti‐interference feature in vitro. Importantly, KZ could display a subset of Aβ deposits recognized by OC antibody in brain sections of AD mouse models. Thus, this probe KZ could be used as a sensitive tracer for detecting Aβ fibrils or/and fibrillar oligomers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

35. A New Accurate Quantitative Inspection Technology to the Corrosion for the Offshore Erect Pipeline

Abstract

The erect pipe is a dangerous one with a special double concentric pipes, in which the inner pipe and outer pipe are both corroded on the offshore platform so that a effective corrosion inspection is needed to measure the thinning to the inner pipe and outer pipe at the same time. In addition, because of the narrow space in the offshore platform, it is difficult for the digital X-ray tangential photography (DR) to be implemented during the operation because of the larger X-ray dose that is enough to threaten the personal safety according to the standards in China. Hence, a special inspection tech is demanded to obtain the wall thicknesses of erect pipe which is the most important information to the corrosion management. In this article, A new measuring tech is proposed for the concentric multi-pipe structure to dissolve the bottleneck on the inspection of the offshore erect pipeline. Through the tangential scanning and a wall boundary identifying algorithm, the tech can accurately measure the wall thicknesses of erect pipe, and the ray dose can also be decreased about to the one thousandth of traditional DR, which can guarantee the safety of a inspection and monitoring during the operation in a narrow space as the offshore platform. Besides, the low dose of ray doesn’t influence the accuracy of the measurement which can still be kept into 0.2mm according to the theoretical analysis and experimental data.

Abstract

Aberrant accumulation of Amyloid-β (Aβ) peptide is closely related to Alzheimer's disease. Thus, it is important to develop featured probes for the specific detection of Aβ species. Herein, we designed and synthesized a novel near-infrared fluorescent probe SDPY based on the D–π-A architecture for the detection of Aβ aggregates. The probe SDPY displayed higher affinity for Aβ40 aggregates over Aβ42 aggregates in solution (Kd = 164 nM vs. 2.1 μM). In addition, SDPY showed excellent anti-interference against a wide range of other substances. Furthermore, SDPY was capable of labeling Aβ40 aggregates better than Aβ42 aggregates in the brain sections of AD transgenic mouse models. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Abstract: It is well known that copper ions play a critical role in various physiological processes. However, a variety of human diseases are tightly correlated with copper overload. Although there are numerous fluorescent probes capable of detecting copper ions, most of them are "turn‐off" probes owing to copper (II) ions fluorescence quenching effect, resulting in poor sensitivity. Herein, a novel "turn‐on" near‐infrared (NIR) fluorescent probe PZ‐N based on phenoxazine was designed and synthesized for the selective detection of copper (II) ions (Cu2+). Upon the addition of Cu2+, the probe could quickly react with Cu2+ and emit strong fluorescence, along with colour change from colourless to obvious blue. Moreover, the probe PZ‐N showed good water solubility, high selectivity, and excellent sensitivity with low limit of detection (1.93 nM) towards copper (II) ions. More importantly, PZ‐N was capable of effectively detecting Cu2+ in living cells. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
