L'analisi delle disparità di genere nella produzione scientifica rappresenta un filone di ricerca estremamente importante all'interno degli studi di genere. La letteratura ha più volte messo in luce come a dispetto di un sostanziale aumento del numero di donne che entrano in possesso di un titolo di studio universitario e post-universitario e del numero di donne che intraprendono la carriera accademica, la produzione scientifica sia ancora affetta da evidenti disparità di genere. Altresì, la letteratura mette anche in luce come differenze di genere rispetto alla partecipazione femminile siano estremamente eterogenee tra le diverse discipline: nelle discipline umanistiche e relative alle scienze mediche tali differenze risultano contenute, mentre risultano molto più accentuate nelle discipline cosiddette delle scienze dure. Inserendosi in questo filone di ricerca, il presente capitolo ha l'obbiettivo di analizzare le differenze di genere nella produzione scientifica e nella collaborazione dei dipendenti del CNR in due specifiche discipline: ingegneria e tecnologia e scienze mediche e della salute.

The increasing demand for territorial services requires the improvement of the coordination and cooperation among stakeholders in planning and delivery of integrated health and social services. In this scenario, to improve the communication among stakeholders there is a need of a formal conceptual model that facilitates the interoperability between organizations and professionals. This paper presents the methodology adopted by a UNINFO working group established in Italy to extend the ContSys standard with social care concepts to integrate health and social care contexts in a continuity of care perspective. An example of this extension is also provided considering the definition of patient's care plans.

How we communicate research is changing because of new (especially digital) possibilities. This article sets out 10 easy steps researchers can take to disseminate their work in novel and engaging ways, and hence increase the impact of their research on science and society. © 2020 Ross-Hellauer et al. The contribution presents data and lesson learned on a national high school contest fostering students' critical reflections on the role of women in science. The contest, that involved 120 high schools and more than 830 students, was organized in the framework of the H2020 GENERA project (https://genera-project.com/) and it constitutes one of the outcomes of the first Gender in Physics Day (GIPD) event, organized by the Italian National Research Council (CNR) and the Italian National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN). The contest required the candidates to create a project about the issue of gender equality in physics with the aim to explore students' perceptions on the prejudices embedded in dominating culture concerning the role of female scientists in society. The contest produced tales, reportage and videos about gender equality and scientific careers. The results support the idea that meaningful knowledge raises when students are actively involved with learning materials. The outcomes show that school contests could be used as educational tools as well as awareness raising activities for high school students with a relevant impact on group learning dynamics and on teachers' active involvement. Preliminary analysis on the videos produced by students show that 1) students were direct performers/actors of their message, 2) interviews were chosen as main information source by students, 3) 1 out of 5 videos cited gender statistics pointing out that students are reached by relevant statistics source on gender, 4) the most interviewed testimonials were female scientists and the least interviewed were the teachers.

The goal of the project is to develop a cohesive framework for the review–disseminate-assess phases of the research life cycle. As part of this work, the consortium needs to present the activities it will undertake to develop, exploit and sustain the achievements and results after the project ends. The study begins by analyzing the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats in Open Science, Open Access Publishing, Open Peer Review, Innovative Dissemination and Open Metrics. The analysis show that the drivers in Open Access Publishing are powerful enough to guarantee its future growth, there is no such movement for Open PeerReview, Innovative Dissemination and Open Metrics. The methodology of the study focuses on key results and findings from the survey, interviews, workshops, pilot projects focusing on Open Peer Review, Innovative Dissemination and Impact Data. A preliminary list of activities for development, exploitation and sustainability were drafted. Results that had no opportunity for exploitation and sustainability were identified and removed from the list. Outreach activities to science stakeholders and possibilities for ongoing collaboration were also confirmed. In parallel target groups, beneficiaries were confirmed, the consortium also confirmed the commitment to sustain the dissemination of results, exploit the findings for further development and develop key results into an actual solution.

Improvements in neonatal and paediatric care mean that many children with complex care needs (CCNs) now survive into adulthood. This cohort of children places great challenges on health and social care delivery in the community: they require dynamic and responsive health and social care over a long period of time; they require organisational and delivery coordination functions; and health issues such as minor illnesses, normally presented to primary care, must be addressed in the context of the complex health issues. Their clinical presentation may challenge local care management. The project explored the interface between primary care and specialised health services and found that it is not easily navigated by children with CCNs and their families across the European Union and the European Economic Area countries. We described the referral-discharge interface, the management of a child with CCNs at the acute-community interface, social care, nursing preparedness for practice and the experiences of the child and family in all Models of Child Health Appraised countries. We investigated data integration and the presence of validated standards of care, including governance and co-creation of care. A separate enquiry was conducted into how care is accessed for children with enduring mental health disorders. This included the level of parental involvement and the presence of multidisciplinary teams in their care. For all children with CCNs, we found wide variation in access to, and governance of, care. Effective communication between the child, family and health services remains challenging, often with fragmentation of care delivery across the health and social care sector and limited service availability.

The report presents the results of a pilot study carried out within the European project OpenUP (Opening up new methods, indicators and tools for peer review, dissemination of research results and impact measurement). The pilot aimed at identifying strong and weak elements in the process of dataset review and validation and intended to outline best practices that facilitate transparency of the process as well as data dissemination, reliability and reuse. In particular the report reviews data sharing and evaluation practices in Social sciences, on which the selection of the pilot community is based, and reports on the interviews with the management team of the selected community, i.e. Human Mortality Database (HMD) as well as on a questionnaire submitted to HMD users. Lessons learned that can help identifying requisites and best practices for peer review of research data are reported in the conclusions.

The Evaluation team aims at fostering the maintenance of high levels of quality in the implementation of MAPPING activities throughout the duration of the project. The team will carry out the devising and implementation of a permanent multi-level evaluation and monitoring system using a participatory approach. Since MAPPING is a Coordination and Support Action project, the evaluation activities will involve not only project partners, but also external stakeholders and actors participating in public events. Moreover the Evaluation strategy encompasses the involvement of external participants to the evaluation activities along with project partners.

This report has been produced during the three years activity of the H2020 GENERA project as a deliverable of the Italian working group coordinated by CNR. The report addresses the analysis of the present status of activities towards gender equality in physics research in the project partner organisations and the conceptualization of the Gender-in-Physics Days to be organized by Partners. In particular the setting up of a common framework for collecting gender relevant data at organizational level, the hindering and facilitating factors in the collection of relevant data, the analyses and reflections on the different experiences made by GENERA partners in accessing the available data. Suggestions on positive actions to improve the gender relevant data monitoring activities, are of the utmost importance to shape a future monitoring system stemming from GENERA experience and applicable to other European research organizations.

In the last decades, there is a shift in the provision of health services from the formal facilies to home care. The delivery of care at home is considered a sustainable approach that not only results in substanal cost savings but is also a key step towards achieving opmal outcomes in the delivery of high-quality health services. Moreover, the adopon of this approach is facilitated by the prompt development of medical and non-medical technologies that can simplify care coordinaon and enable distant monitoring of the paent. However, home care requires the integraon and coordinaon of health and social stakeholders in a connuity of care perspecve. This requires the adopon of standards to define a common shared conceptual model that improves the interoperability among informaon systems and organizaons. In this paper to accomplish this task we combine the ContSys standard and the HL7 FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) framework to idenfy concepts to be exchanged between systems, organizaons and providers involved in the health and social context. This model has been developed to improve the integraon and coordinaon of social and health care services within the Italian H@ H project.

This paper proposes a semi-automatic approach to extract information stored in a HL7 Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) and transform them to be loaded in a Data Warehouse for secondary purposes. It represents a suitable solution to facilitate the design and implemention of Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) tools that are considered the most time-consuming step of the data warehouse development process. The implementation of this framework is also proposed adopting the XSLT style sheet language that converts an original CDA XML-based document to an output XML document that can be easily loaded in the Data Warehouse. A case study is also provided to demonstrate the feasibility of the approach proposed.

For almost 10 years imatinib has been the therapeutic standard of chronic myeloid leukemia. The introduction of other tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) raised a debate on treatment optimization. The debate is still heated: some studies have protocol restrictions or limited follow-up; in other studies, some relevant data are missing. The aim of this report is to provide a comprehensive, long-term, intention-to-treat, analysis of 559 newly diagnosed, chronic-phase, patients treated frontline with imatinib. With a minimum follow-up of 66 months, 65% of patients were still on imatinib, 19% were on alternative treatment, 12% died and 4% were lost to follow-up. The prognostic value of BCR-ABL1 ratio at 3 months (⩽10% in 81% of patients) was confirmed. The prognostic value of complete cytogenetic response and major molecular response at 1 year was confirmed. The 6-year overall survival was 89%, but as 50% of deaths occurred in remission, the 6-year cumulative incidence of leukemia-related death was 5%. The long-term outcome of first-line imatinib was excellent, also because of second-line treatment with other TKIs, but all responses and outcomes were inferior in high-risk patients, suggesting that to optimize treatment results, a specific risk-adapted treatment is needed for such patients.

The study was carried out within the European research project "Biology, Health and Environmental Education for Better Citizenship" that joined 18 European and North-African countries. We report here the methodology and some of the conclusions drawn from an analysis of science textbooks that considered the topics ecology and environmental education (EEE). Grids were conceived with the aim of revealing value systems conveyed by the exposition of the content and by images. We concentrate on the explicit/implicit presence of two of the four conceptions that have been investigated: complex vs. linear and relation of humans respect to nature in relation to the sub-topics ecosystems and ecological cycles and pollution. Dogmatism, scientism, and non-historical approach were also checked. The findings from the analysis of the sample of seven Italian textbooks for lower and higher secondary school are illustrated and compared with those obtained in Morocco. The outcomes of the analyses show that ecology is not oversimplified, and structural descriptions appear more articulate than the relational and the dynamical ones. The view of ecology communicated by most of the textbooks is rather superficial and incomplete under many respects that we specify. The topic pollution is treated in a fragmentary way, as a "call of attention" added to the description of the environmental components or in Cards included in the chapters concerning the human body. The higher secondary school manuals do not contain more and more articulate information nor they more deeply account concrete cases, familiar to students' experience. The complexity of the clinical trial (CT) process involves high investments in the research of a new drug or procedure. To reduce costs and enhance the research quality more and more activities in the CT process need an IT support. To develop efficient automated solution first a conceptual modeling step should be carried out. To model the CT research partitioning criteria of the CT conceptual domain are required.

The paper presents the results of a joint project between the Italian National Institute of Safety and Health at Work and the Italian National Research Council. It illustrates the choices and main features in the development of the RIS-OSH system (Research Information System on Occupational Safety and Health). This system has been developed giving particular attention to the organisational improvement of the production, collection, preservation and diffusion of institutionally generated information, emphasising the importance of the quality control of the information produced during the project lifecycle. The paper gives the description of the workflow, which outlines the interaction between the various actors involved in the process of supplying and diffusing results. Finally the integration of the RIS-OSH system with the GL database and the global system architecture are described. Research projects and scientific grey literature are linked by a recognized, but not so commonly pointed out, cause-effect relation. Scientific GL production is generally originated by research activities related to more or less formalized projects. Research projects, in their turn, are represented through GL documents (deliverables, technical reports, etc.) and it often happens that research products themselves are also GL (patents, protocols, guidelines, etc.). This relation is underlined by two more types of links pertaining to their information content and to their process. The first type consists in a set of information which are common to the project description and to the GL documents produced within the project. The second type of link regards the process and from this point of view, each information unit represents the result of a precise activity within the communication flow, carried out during the project lifecycle, from the drafting of the proposal, to its approval, until the finalization of the research and the diffusion of the results. This paper describes the first outcomes of a collaboration between the Italian National Research Council (CNR) and the Italian National Institute of Safety and Health at Work (ISPESL) with the aim of developing an information system on research projects regarding occupational safety and health. Such system will interface with the existing GL database (http://www.ispesl.it/lg/default.htm) and will allow the automatic updating of the documents produced within each research project. The ultimate goal of this commitment is to facilitate research evaluation activities and technological transfer through collection and updating of information related to research projects and to the documents produced within the process. After an analysis of the reference models considered, like Current Research Information System (CRIS), R&D databases, Digital libraries, the paper will draw particular attention to the description of the management system (workflow), representing the main activities of a project lifecycle, with the identification of the exchange phases of the information flow, roles, actors/units involved. Among the analytical tools adopted, interviews to privileged witnesses like researchers and research managers are dealt with. In this way, a greater awareness in participating in the project was obtained by interviewed subjects, who were mostly information producers. Actually, the difficulty of organizing and updating such systems requires not only a more effective data collection, but also the active involvement of each research unit. This means the identification, through a consensus process, of a schedule for data input and updating, the definition of the involvement of actors in terms of responsibilities, as well as of access priorities and types of data to be exchanged.
