The population of lowland anoas (Bubalus depressicornis) has decreased significantly due to illegal hunting and habitat loss. As such, the urgency in developing successful ex-situ conservation programs cannot be overstated. Ex-situ breeding programs of anoas, however, are hindered by difficulties in early pregnancy detection. The failure to detect pregnancy at an early stage often results in miscarriage due to repeated breeding attempts of unconfirmed pregnant females. Moreover, frequent false heat during 5 to 6 months of pregnancy corroborated the repeated breeding of pregnant females. Therefore, early detection techniques are needed to improve breeding success. The asian tapir (Tapirus indicus) population continues to decline so the IUCN establishes its conservation status as endangered. One of the conservation efforts that can be done is ex-situ in the zoo. The environmental condition of the zoo is different from their natural habitat which results in asian tapirs having to adapt. One form of adaptation is behavior change that can be experienced by female asian tapir. Behavioral changes such as not wanting to breastfeed can threaten the survival of their offspring. This study aims to identify the maternal behavior of asian tapirs through daytime activities, determine the response of its calf, and determine the welfare of asian tapir in Taman Margasatwa Ragunan (TMR). Observations were made on one female asian tapir and one asian tapir calf. The observation was done from 9.00 to 14.00 during August 2022 and uses the focal animal sampling method. The results show that the mother does more self care than maternal care. Maternal behavior that is carried out are nurse and social. The calf responds by sniffing its mother’s stomach to suckle and approach its mother’s body. Positive reinforcement conditioning as Sumatran tiger's (Panthera tigris sumatrae) social enrichment at Tambling Wildlife Nature Conservation Rescue Centre, Lampung, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 23: 55-61. Tiger individuals are translocated to ex-situ conservations due to human-tiger conflicts and may express behavioral change (stereotypic) in captivity. Furthermore, medical check-up routines may cause injury and stress between tiger and operators under tough circumstances. Positive reinforcement conditioning (PRC) is a well-known method to minimize the risks on medical examination and as social enrichment. Therefore, the purposes of this research are (i) to examine PRC on tiger's blood sample collections and (ii) the correlation between physiological stress and tiger's stereotypic behavior (SB) through the neutrophil per lymphocyte ratio (N/L ratio) method. Four Sumatran tigers’ (1 female, 3 males) behavior were observed using focal animal sampling at Tambling Wildlife Nature Conservation Rescue Centre, Lampung, Indonesia. Each baseline and post-enrichment tiger's behavioral observations were conducted for 1.920 minutes (1 male & 1 female) and 960 minutes (2 males). Then SB was categorized into low (66,67%). Blood collections (BC) were conducted twice (1st without PRC and 2nd with PRC) directly on the tiger after the behavior observation. Tiger's physiological stress during BC was analyzed with Wilcoxon. The correlation between physiological stress and SB was analyzed with Kruskal-Wallis. All tigers’ N/L ratios were in normal value from this present research during both BC. The tigers did not show chronical stress as long this research was conducted. PRC was significantly effective to reduce tiger physiological stress during BC (Z= -0,730, P= 0,465 < 0,05). All tigers showed low ( 0,05). The PRC was an appropriate and effective tool to handle Sumatran tigers during BC. These tigers performed SB as a coping mechanism in the enclosure.

The timing of artificial insemination relies largely on behavioral observation of estrus. The problemfaced is that not all cattle shows signs of estrus significantly, which affect the accuracy of insemination,and therefore,the success rate of Artificial Insemination is less than 50%. Recently, the determination ofestradiol levels as an indicator of estrus is done by observation of physical signs and doing ELISA test,which is expensive and provide longer time. In order to solve these problems, a tool estrus detector is madenamely Electronic Nose (EN). Determination of estrus with EN is cheaper because it does not need to usecomplexmaterials, just only use the samples. Mechanism of action of EN is using a sensor that is vaporized,while animals estrus will emit pheromones that are vaporized. Theaim of this study was to determinewhether the stage of estrus can be detected by using EN. Urine of female Ongole Crossbred which maintainedin Kuwang, district of Cangkringan, Yogyakarta, with BCS of 3 was used in this research. The sample wascollected shortly before injection of dinoprost as estrus synchronization then it repeated when cattle got estrus phase. The urinary sample of the estrus cattle was sensitive to methane, propane, butane, whereasin non-estrus cattle, besides the three of these component (methane, propane, butane), sensor was alsocaptured hydrogen sulfide. Furthermore, our electronic nose had been able to distinguish estrus phase andnon-estrus based on domain area.Thus, the Electronic Nose is very prospect used as a detector of estrus incattle. Hydrogen disulfide could possibly be used as an indicator comparison between cow estrus and nonestrus.

Nowadays, many habitats of Javan slow loris was fragmented. It also affects the amount of feed trees which will also affect the feeding behavior of Javan slow loris. This study was conducted to know is the Javan slow loris has preferences of feeding position and food kinds as one of foraging strategy on Prosimian. Research about feeding tree preferences of Javan slow loris has been conducted at Talun Cipaganti Village, Garut, West Java. This research was conducted on Mar 2017 to Apr 2017 during 17.00 to 23.00 also between 23.00 to 05.00. Data were collected by focal animal instantaneous sampling and ad libitum method. This research recorded 453 points feeding incident from 452 h total time of observation or about 11 % from all night behavior observation. The result of this research is shows the feeding position preferences from the highest to the lowest which lorises like are at terminal (TE), canopy top (CT), under canopy (UC), canopy (C), and canopy bottom (CB) with average value 133.5, 34, 33, 33, dan 28.5. Javan slow loris tends to have different feeding positions as one form of foraging strategy owned by Prosimian. This is influenced by the internal factors of lorises such as gender and nutrition needs, also influenced by external factors such as feeding item nutrition, tree architecture, and seasons. on the trees and tree architecture. In addition, feeding tree with the highest frequency is red calliandra (Calliandra callothrysus). These results are closely related to the type of feed tree which lorises used. Lorises choose the red calliandra because this feed tree has abundance exist all year to maximize reproductive capacity.

The response of estrus can be enhanced by providing PGF2α and a combination of PGF2αGnRH so that the time of mating using Artificial Insemination (AI) can be held precisely. This study aims to compare the response of estrus synchronization using PGF2α compare to PGF2α-GnRH. Twenty female cattle Ongole Crossbreds, 4-6 years, BCS average of 3-4 were used in this research. Cattle were selected based on their luteal phase at the days of 7 to 18 by rectal examination. Then, all of the cattle were injected by cloprostenol® with a dose of 500 ug intrauterine. Ten of the animals were injected by 2.5 mL of Fertagyl® intramuscularly after 48 hours then continued observing and response estrus detection. Telah dilakukan pengamatan perilaku reproduksi moyet ekor panjang (Macaca fascicularis) di Yayasan Inisiasi Alam Rehabilitasi Indonesia (YIARI) yang telah disterilkan dengan metode vasektomi. Tujuan penelitian adalah mengamati pengaruh vasektomi monyet ekor panjang terhadap perilaku reproduksinya. Pengamatan dilakukan pada tiga ekor monyet ekor panjang jantan (Jantan1, Jantan2, dan Jantan3) yang dikandangkan bersama dua ekor monyet ekor panjang betina (Betina1 dan Betina2) dengan metode scan sampling dan ad libitum dengan interval waktu 5 menit tanpa jeda. Pengamatan dilakukan dari pukul 08.00-15.00 WIB selama 14 hari di bulan Agustus 2016, serta dengan total titik sampel yang diperoleh adalah 1008. Hasil pengamatan menunjukkan ketiga jantan masih aktif melakukan perilaku reproduksi, dengan Jantan1 yang merupakan jantan dominan dalam kelompok yang lebih mendominasi betina dibanding Jantan2 dan Jantan3, dibuktikan dengan nilai MM (Male Mounts) terhadap betina yaitu Jantan1 sebanyak 111 kali, Jantan2 sebanyak 10 kali dan Jantan3 sebanyak 21 kali. Perilaku reproduksi pada ketiga jantan masih ditemukan karena metode vasektomi tidak merusak proses spermatogenesis sehingga sistem hormonal hewan tidak terganggu. Terdapat perbedaan frekuensi perilaku reproduksi jantan terhadap Betina1 dan Betina2. Hal tersebut dikarenakan preferensi jantan dalam kelompok yang lebih memilih untuk kawin dengan Betina1 daripada Betina2, yang dibuktikan dengan nilai FRS (Female Refuses Sex) dari Betina1 terhadap jantan sebanyak 111 kali sementara Betina2 sebanyak 7 kali. Diduga Betina1 merupakan betina dominan dengan kadar hormon estrogen yang lebih tinggi daripada Betina2.Kata Kunci - Macaca fascicularis, Rehabilitasi, Perilaku Reproduksi, VasektomiAbstract - A study of reproductive behavior has been conducted on long tail macaques (Macaca fascicularis) which have been sterilized by a vasectomy method at Yayasan Inisiasi Alam Rehabilitasi Indonesia (YIARI), Bogor. The purpose of the study is to observe the influence of vasectomy to reproductive behavior of those animals. Observation was conducted on 3 (three) male macaques (the code names are: Jantan1, Jantan2 and Jantan3) which were captive-housed with 2 other female macaques (the code names are: Betina1 and Betina2). The method of observation is a combination of scan sampling and ad libitum methods with 5 (five) minutes intervals without pause. Daily observation were done from 08:00 am to 03:00 pm for 14 days in August 2016 and brought about 1,008 sample points. Results showed all males still actively performed reproductive behavior with Jantan1 in dominant position to all females compared to other males. Male Mounts (MM) of Jantan1 (111 times) was found higher than other males (Jantan2 10 times and Jantan3 21 times). We resume that reproductive behavior was still found in all males because vasectomy methods did not affect spermatogenesis process therefore the hormonal system remain in normal condition. There are differences in the frequency of males’ reproductive behavior to all females since all males preferring to mate with Betina1 instead of Betina2. The Female Refuse Sex behavior to males was found higher in Betina1 (111 times) than Betina2 (7 times) as Betina1 assumed to be dominant than Betina2.Keywords - Macaca fascicularis, Rehabilitation, Reproductive Behavior, Vasectomy

The aims of this research were to determine diurnal patterns of testosterone and cortisol metabolites to predict the testis functional status. In this study, fecal testosterone and cortisol were quantified in 77 samples from three male Hylobates moloch during a course of three months period. These data showed that the highest concentration of fecal testosterone occured at 18.00-06.00 (23.61 ng/g dried feces), then declined gradually. The lowest concentration was in the evening (5.54 ng/g dried feces). Our tests showed that there was a decrease in the mean testosterone concentration from 06.00-10.00 to 10.00-14.00 to 14.00-18.00. For cortisol, the highest concentration occured at 06.00-10.00 (597.84 ng/g dried feces), then decline gradually in the evening (225.73 ng/g dried feces).

Dugongs is a protected herbivorous marine mammals (Suwelo et al., 1992) and included in vulnerable category of IUCN(International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources) and Appendix I CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) (IUCN 2012). Dugong population continues to decline due to the human threat (Suwelo et al., 1992). Another factor is because Dugong has a low reproductive rate (Hindell & Kirkword 2003). Ex-situ conservation of dugong is become important and has conducted by Sea World Indonesia, Taman Impian Jaya Ancol, Jakarta. Research on dugong feeding behaviour can help the ex-situ conservation of dugong. This because feeding behaviour is a main daily behaviour of dugong in the sea (Chilvers et al., 2003). The aim of this research was to describe feeding behaviour of two dugong in Sea World Indonesia. Observations were made in SWI Dugong aquarium with a diameter of 10 meters and two different depth (2 meters and 5 meters). Observations were made during two weeks on December 2012. Behavioral observation time was divided into morning (9:15 to 09:35), (11:30 to 11:50) and (14:30 to 14:50) observations. The feeding behavior observed was hand-fed, surface-fed and bottom-fed. Daily observations of dugong feeding behavior were done using focal animal sampling and ad libitum sampling. The data obtained was displayed in the form of tables and graphs. The data was analyzed using descriptive analysis reinforced with statistical tests. The statistical tests used were the t-test and ANOVA test. Hand-fed behavior of male dugong (31,30%) was higher than female (29,67%). Results from t-test showed that the hand-fed behaviors of both dugongs were not significantly different. Meanwhile, the other t-test result for surface-fed behavior and bottom-fed behavior of both dugongs was significantly different. Surface-fed behavior of male dugong (65.83%) was higher than female (32.08%). Bottom-fed behavior of male dugong (6.23%) was lower than females (36.63%). Hand-fed behaviour and feed on surface are the adaptation of feeding behavior in captivity. Feed on bottom behaviour is the behavior that similar to dugong feeding in the wild, which is grazing. Based on the observation, it is known that both dugong, male dugong especially, have a good adaptation on hand-fed seagrass behaviour and feed on surface, while the female dugong maintain its natural feeding behavior.Keywords: Dugong dugon, Sea World Indonesia, feeding behaviour, captive
