Starch-lipid composite nanoparticles were prepared by using dry and wet methods.The properties of nanoparticles,such as the lipid composite index,solubility,microscopic morphology,particle size distribution,three-phase contact angle,crystal structure,and emulsifying property,were studied to create a new starch-based Pickering emulsifier.The results show that the lipid composite index of the nanoparticles prepared by using the dry method is significantly higher than by using the wet method,which is related to the combination form between lipids and starch demonstrated by X-ray.Scanning electron microscopy results show that both particles exhibited the aggregated nanoscale distribution,and the average particle size of the dry method is significantly higher than the wet.The contact angle of the nanoparticles prepared with the dry method is significantly higher than that with the wet method.Emulsification property results show that the Pickering emulsion stabilized by nanoparticles prepared with the dry method has a smaller particle size and a more even distribution.Pickering emulsion gels were formed after 7 days of storage with the addition of 3%～5% emulsifier.

Porous SiO2 film has been widely studied due to its extensive applications in many fields. This paper presents a newly produced porous SiO2 film made by traditional sol–gel method. Bare Si and Si with SiO2 buffer layer were used as substrate. The SiO2 buffer layer was 500 nm in thickness and was grown by thermal oxidization. The structural properties of SiO2 aerogel films spin-coated on both materials were observed by optical microscope (OM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Results reveal that the surface of SiO2 aerogel films on bare Si is rough and discontinuous. While flat and smooth surface is observed on sample with SiO2 buffer layer. This indicates that by inserting SiO2 buffer layer, the structural property of SiO2 aerogel film deposited on Si is improved. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, the microstructure evolution of the rapidly solidified (RS) Mg61.7Zn34Gd4.3 (at%, atomic ratio) alloy at high temperatures was investigated. The hardness and elastic modulus of the main precipitated phases were also analyzed and compared with those of the α-Mg matrix on the basis of nanoindentation tests. The results show that the RS alloy consists of either a petal-like icosahedral quasicrystal (IQC) phase (~20 μm) and block-shaped H1 phase (~15 μm) or IQC particles with an average grain size of ~107 nm as well as a small proportion of amorphous phase, which mainly depends on the holding time at the liquid temperature and the thickness of the ribbons. The IQC phase gradually transforms at 400°C to a short-rod-shaped μ-phase (Mg28.6Zn63.8Gd7.7) with a hexagonal structure. The hardness of the IQC phase is higher than that of H1 phase, and both phases exhibit a higher hardness than the α-Mg matrix and the μ-phase. The elasticity of the H1 phase is superior to that of the α-Mg matrix. The IQC phase possesses a higher elastic modulus than H1 phase. The easily formed H1 phase exhibits the poorest plastic deformation capacity among these phases but a higher elastic modulus than the α-Mg matrix. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To investigate the emotional conflict processing during the processing of emotional stimuli in individuals with different levels of social adjustment through developing an event-related potential (ERP) method, the study used positive words (happy), negative words (disgusted), positive faces and negative faces as experimental materials for a face-word Stroop emotional conflict task, which was completed by 34 participants. For the N2 component, there was a significant difference between the high and low social adjustment groups for the congruent condition; the low social adjustment group evoked more negative amplitude under the congruent condition. Under the incongruent condition, there was a marginally significant difference between the high and low social adjustment groups; the low social adjustment group evoked more negative amplitude under the incongruent condition. For the SP component, there were no significant differences for both the high and low social adjustment group between the congruent and incongruent conditions of emotional conflict. However, within the low social adjustment group, the incongruent evoked more positive amplitude. Our findings indicate that the difference in the emotional conflict process between individuals with high and low social adjustment mainly lies in the early processing stages of emotional information. That is, for both congruent and incongruent emotional stimuli, individuals with high social adjustment showed better emotional conflict monitoring, used less cognitive resources, and had a higher degree of automated processing than those with low social adjustment.
