This work describes the preparation and characterization of biomimetic chitosan/multiwall carbon nanotubes/nano-hydroxyapatite (CTS/MWCNT/nHAp) scaffolds and their viability for bone tissue engineering applications. The cryogenic process ice segregation-induced self-assembly (ISISA) was used to fabricate 3D biomimetic CTS scaffolds. Proper combination of cryogenics, freeze-drying, nature and molecular ratio of solutes give rise to 3D porous interconnected scaffolds with clusters of nHAp distributed along the scaffold surface. The effect of doping in CNT (e.g. with oxygen and nitrogen atoms) on cell viability was tested. Under the same processing conditions, pore size was in the range of 20-150 μm and irrespective on the type of CNT. Studies on cell viability with scaffolds were carried out using human cells from periosteum biopsy. Prior to cell seeding, the immunophenotype of mesenchymal periosteum or periosteum-derived stem cells (MSCs-PCs) was characterized by flow cytometric analysis using fluorescence-activated and characteristic cell surface markers for MSCs-PCs. The characterized MSCs-PCs maintained their periosteal potential in cell cultures until the 2nd passage from primary cell culture. Thus, the biomimetic CTS/MWCNT/nHAp scaffolds demonstrated good biocompatibility and cell viability in all cases such that it can be considered as promising biomaterials for bone tissue engineering., This work was supported financially by Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACyT), México. The aim of this work is to synthesize chitosan-gold nanoparticles films by direct chemical reduction of HAuCl4 in a chitosan solution and to investigate the influence of gold nanoparticles concentration on the structure of films, conductivity and healing effect on mice skin after surgery. Results obtained have shown that new chitosan-gold nanoparticle-collagen bionananocomposites demonstrated better healing effect on the mice skin after surgery than control performed on commercial TheraFormTM material. El presente trabajo de investigación evalúa la incrustación del ácido carmínico (AC) en matrices de oligoestireno con terminación hidroxilo (PSOH) y de SiO2. Se describe la caracterización de películas delgadas de PSOH/AC y SiO2/AC, a través de Microscopía Electrónica de Barrido (MEB), espectroscopia infrarroja y RAMAN. Se percibe que a concentraciones inferiores al 0,2% en peso de AC se favorece de manera considerable su integración y se generan películas de coloración homogénea y transparentes. A consecuencia del bajo peso molecular de la matriz Mw=3800 la terminación en grupos hidroxilo se manifiesta como un factor importante para las interacciones polímero-AC; por su parte, el estudio por FTIR presentó corrimientos de las bandas características (3300 cm-1) respecto del PSOH. Los resultados por MEB para el sistema SiO2/AC sugieren la interacción de los grupos silanoles con la molécula de AC. This research work evaluates the embedding of carminic acid (AC) on hydroxyl-terminated oligostyrene matrixes (PSOH) and SiO2. It describes the characterization of thin films of PSOH/AC and SiO2/AC through scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Infrared and Raman spectroscopy. It shows that at concentrations below 0.2% by weight of AC it significantly favors integration and color films generated uniform and transparent. As a result of low molecular weight matrix Mw = 3800 hydroxyl terminated groups appears as an important factor for polymer-AC interactions, the study by FTIR presented shifts in the characteristic bands (3300 cm-1) for the PSOH. The results by SEM for the system SiO2/AC suggest that interactions of silanol groups with AC molecules are present.
