Abstract

The troubadour poems of Guilhem d'Autpol and 'Daspol,' which Paul Meyer read as being by one person, can be interpreted as poems by two different individuals which offer insights into troubadour culture. The poems reveal an interesting conjunction of overtly religious expression and the system of genres. The system had a mode for many experiences but not for religious experience. The four poems, which form a pattern, can be categorized as an alba, a pastourelle, a fictive tenso and a planh. The poems explore human love, divine love, sorrow, pain and hope. Texts of the poems and translations are included.

Abstract

An essay is presented on the writings of Fray Luis de Leén where thoughts are rooted in the Judaeo-Islamic tradition. It explores the concepts or themes of wisdom, unity, and light inside the metaphysical framework of the Spanish philosopher-poet Solomon Ibn Gabirol on his "Fons vitae" and the "Dialoghi a'amore" of Leone Ebreo. The author also discusses the connection between wisdom and unity with the concepts of Ibn Gabirol that gives light to fundamental thought of Luis de Leén.
