1. Amplifying characteristics Er-doped chalcogenide glass

Abstract

The paper presents the measurement results of optical amplifying characteristics of Er-doped As-S-Ge chalcogenide glasses. The measurements included the amplification of useful laser source power during propagation along two axes of samples. A fluorescence maximum at the wavelengths between 1500 nm and 1540 nm was identified, which corresponds to the transition of electrons from the 4I13/2 level to the 4I15/2 level within the 4f shell of Erbium ions (Er3+). Measuring the signal strength showed that the passage through the erbium doped chalcogenid glass amplification of the useful signal occurs and this increase is proportional to the length of propagation through the doped glass.

Abstract

The current-voltage characteristics of the bulk metal chalcogenide glassy semiconductor Cu1(AsSe1.4I0.2)99 are obtained by Tektronix 576 Curve Tracer. It was found that this glass has current-controlled negative resistance (CCNR) and switching characteristic with memory. Experimental results have shown a strong decrease in electrical resistivity and threshold voltage due to the presence of the metallic element copper and change of ambient temperature. Also, photomicrographs of the sample surface are presented and the impact of electrical switching on forming crystalline conductive channels on the surface of the investigated amorphous semiconductor is discussed.

Abstract

Complexes of zinc(II), cadmium(II), platinum(II) and palladium(II) with a new polydentate dithiocarbamate ligand, 3-dithiocarboxy-3-aza-5-aminopentanoate (daap-), of the type M(daap)2.nH2O (M= Zn(II), Cd(II), n = 2, or M= Pt(II) Pd(II), n = 0), have been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis IR and UV/VIS spectroscopy, as well as magnetic measurements. The spectra of the complexes suggest a bidentate coordination of the daap- ligand to the metal ions via the sulfur atoms of the deprotonated dithiocarbamato group. The fact that under the same experimental conditions its S-methyl ester does not form complexes could be taken as proof of the suggested coordination mode.

6. Gel combustion synthesis of transition metal ions doped Zn2SiO4 powder

Abstract

We present here the synthesis procedure for obtaining Zn2SiO4:M2+ (M = Mn, Ni, Co) powder based on the combination of so-gel and combustion methods. Combustion is performed both in a conventional furnace and in a microwave oven in order to evaluate the influence of combustion conditions on the properties of synthesized material. X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed that obtained material has crystallized in rhombohedral structure of Zn2SiO4 (willemite) with traces of ZnO. The effects of combustion conditions are investigated further by means of thermogravimetric analysis, differential thermal analysis, infrared spectroscopy, diffuse reflectance optical spectroscopy and photoluminescence spectroscopy. Based on these results we could conclude that microwave combustion synthesis can be successfully applied for Zn2SiO4-based products.

7. Experimental evidence of second harmonic photoacoustic signal generation in metals

Abstract

The capability of photoacoustic (PA) spectroscopy for the detection of the second harmonic thermal waves on metal surfaces is investigated. Expressions for the first and second harmonic amplitude and phase PA spectra are derived from the one-dimensional nonlinear heat conduction equation using stepwise successive approximation method. First and second harmonic amplitude and phase PA spectra of nickel sample are measured in a heat reflection PA configuration. PA amplitude intensity dependence on excitation intensity exhibit characteristic behavior, it has linear dependence in the case of first harmonic and square dependence in the case of second. Experimental data were in excellent agreement with theoretical calculations. Modulation frequency dependence of amplitude and phase provided sufficient data for the thermal properties evaluation from PA measurements.

Abstract

Luminescent composites of poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA) and nanophosphors (Zn2SiO4:Mn2+, Zn2SiO4:Eu3+) were prepared by dispersion casting method. It was found that nanoparticles embedded in PMMA matrix preserve their typical phosphorescence emission. The influence of Zn2SiO4 nanofillers on thermal properties of PMMA was also investigated. A shift towards higher glass transition temperatures and slight improvements in thermal stability of the nanocomposites compared to pure PMMA were observed and are discussed herein.

Abstract

Lithium-indium oxide is one of the candidate materials as solid-state scintillators for solar neutrinos due to an inverse beta -decay of In-115 to Sn-115. On the other hand, when doped with rare-earth ions such as Eu3+ or Sm3+, it becomes a promising phosphor material. In this report we present a simple solid-state procedure for preparation of LiInO2:Eu3+ powders. X-ray diffraction confirmed product in tetragonal structural form (space group: I4(1)/amd) and no impurity phases were detected. Then, high resolution photoluminescence emission measurements were performed at room and low temperatures to find D-5(0) - GT F-7(J). Emission kinetics from D-5(0) level exhibited pure single exponential behavior with lifetime of about 1.5 ms. Maximum energy splitting of F-7(1) manifold is recorded as a function of temperature. 10. Judd-Ofelt analysis of luminescence emission from Zn2SiO4:Eu3+ nanoparticles obtained by a polymer-assisted sol-gel method

Abstract

In this research we prepared Zn2SiO4:Eu3+ phosphor nanopowders using a combination of sol-gel and combustion synthesis with the aim to examine the influence of synthesis conditions on the optical properties of the phosphor. As combustion fuels we used polyethylene glycol (PEG) with different average molecular weights, and the combustion was performed in two ways-in a microwave oven and a conventional furnace. Optical properties were examined by photoluminescence spectroscopy and spectra of all samples showed intense red emission, typical for f-f electronic transitions of the Eu3+ ions. Emission decays exhibited classical one exponential behavior at longer times and nonlinear nature at short times, with average lifetimes varied from 0.49 to 0.71 ms between samples. Judd-Ofelt theory was applied to experimental data for the quantitative determination of optical parameters such as Omega(2,4) Judd-Ofelt parameters, radiative and nonradiative transition rates and emission quantum efficiency. 12. Optical and structural properties of Zn2SiO4 : Mn2+ green phosphor nanoparticles obtained by a polymer-assisted sol-gel method

Abstract

A novel procedure for Zn2SiO4:Mn2+ phosphor powder synthesis based on a combination of sol-gel and combustion methods is presented. The procedure utilizes Zn-nitrate, Mn-nitrate, tetraethylorthosilicate and polyethylene glycol to produce gel, which is then combusted in a microwave oven to form Zn2SiO4:Mn2+ powder and further annealed to crystallize in desired structure. The material has been investigated by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, infrared and photoluminescence spectroscopy.
