High Energy Physics - Lattice - Abstract
We study the finite volume effects on the electric polarizability for the neutron, neutral pion, and neutral kaon using eight dynamically generated two-flavor nHYP-clover ensembles at two different pion masses: 306(1) and 227(2) MeV. An infinite volume extrapolation is performed for each hadron at both pion masses. For the neutral kaon, finite volume effects are relatively mild. The dependence on the quark mass is also mild and a reliable chiral extrapolation can be performed along with the infinite volume extrapolation. Our result is $\alpha_{K^0}^\mbox{phys}=0.356(74) \times 10^{-4} \mbox{fm}^3$. In contrast, for neutron the electric polarizability depends strongly on the volume. After removing the finite volume corrections, our neutron polarizability results are in good agreement with $\chi$PT. For the connected part of the neutral pion polarizability, the negative trend persists, and it is not due to finite volume effects, but likely sea quark charging effects., Comment: 9 pages, 6 figures, 6 tables. High Energy Physics - Lattice - Abstract
Knowledge of the electric polarizability is crucial to understanding the interactions of hadrons with electromagnetic fields. The neutron polarizability is very sensitive to the quark mass and is expected to diverge in the chiral limit. Here we present results for the electric polarizability of the neutron, neutral pion, and neutral kaon on eight ensembles with nHYP-smeared clover dynamical fermions with two different pion masses (227 and 306 MeV). These are currently the lightest pion masses used in polarizability studies. For each pion mass we compute the polarizability at four different volumes and perform an infinite volume extrapolation for the three hadrons. Along with the infinite volume extrapolation we conduct a chiral extrapolation for the kaon polarizability to the physical point. We compare our results for the neutron polarizability to predictions from chiral perturbation theory., Comment: 7 pages, 11 figures

High Energy Physics - Lattice ,High Energy Physics - Phenomenology - Abstract
We take a new approach to determine the scale parameter $r_0$, the physical masses of strange and charm quarks through a global fit which incorporates continuum extrapolation, chiral extrapolation and quark mass interpolation to the lattice data. The charmonium and charm-strange meson spectrum are calculated with overlap valence quarks on $2+1$-flavor domain-wall fermion gauge configurations generated by the RBC and UKQCD Collaboration. We use the masses of $D_s$, $D_s^*$ and $J/\psi$ as inputs and obtain $m_c^{\overline{\rm MS}}(2\,{\rm GeV})=1.110(24)\,{\rm GeV}$, $m_s^{\overline{\rm MS}}(2\,{\rm GeV})=0.104(9)\,{\rm GeV}$ and $r_0=0.458(11)\,{\rm fm}$. Subsequently, the hyperfine-splitting of charmonium and $f_{D_s}$ are predicted to be $112(5)\,{\rm MeV}$ and $254(5)\,{\rm MeV}$, respectively., Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures, POS for lattice 2013

High Energy Physics - Lattice - Abstract
A direct calculation of the mixed-action parameter $\Delta_{mix}$ with valence overlap fermions on a domain-wall fermion sea is presented. The calculation is performed on four ensembles of the 2+1-flavor domain-wall gauge configurations: $24^3 \times 64$ ($a m_l= 0.005$, $a=0.114\fm$) and $32^3 \times 64$ ($a m_l = 0.004, 0.006, 0.008$, $a=0.085\fm$). For pion masses close to $300\MeV$ we find \hbox{$\Delta_{mix}=0.030(6)\GeV^4$} at $a=0.114\fm$ and $\Delta_{mix}=0.033(12)\GeV^4$ at $a=0.085\fm$. The results are quite independent of the lattice spacing and they are significantly smaller than the results for valence domain-wall fermions on Asqtad sea or those of valence overlap fermions on clover sea. Combining the results extracted from these two ensembles, we get $\Delta_{mix}=0.030(6)(5)\GeV^4$, where the first error is statistical and the second is the systematic error associated with the fitting method., Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures

Lunar And Planetary Science And Exploration - Abstract
Establishing the abundance and physical properties of regolith and boulders on asteroids is crucial for understanding the formation and degradation mechanisms at work on their surfaces. Using images and thermal data from NASA's Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, and Security-Regolith Explorer (OSIRIS-REx) spacecraft, we show that asteroid (101955) Bennu's surface is globally rough, dense with boulders, and low in albedo. The number of boulders is surprising given Bennu's moderate thermal inertia, suggesting that simple models linking thermal inertia to particle size do not adequately capture the complexity relating these properties. At the same time, we find evidence for a wide range of particle sizes with distinct albedo characteristics. Our findings imply that ages of Bennu's surface particles span from the disruption of the asteroid's parent body (boulders) to recent in situ production (micrometre-scale particles).

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrinopathy affecting 8%–13% of reproductive‐aged women. The aetiology of the syndrome is complex, with genetic susceptibility, androgen exposure in early life and adiposity related dysfunction leading to perturbance in hypothalamic–ovarian function. PCOS clinical features are heterogeneous, with manifestations arising even in early adolescence, developing into multisystem reproductive, metabolic and psychological manifestations in adulthood. In this review, we will discuss challenges in the diagnosis of PCOS and understanding of the natural history of PCOS.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Renal biopsy is one of the essential tests for the characterization of chronic kidney disease (CKD). Objective: To determine the most frequent primary and secondary glomerulonephritis, complications of renal biopsy, and the number of patients on hemodialysis when undergoing renal biopsy. Methods: Observational, descriptive, case series, retrospective, and cross-sectional study carried out at the E. Rebagliati Martins-Perú. The medical records of patients older than 15 years of age who underwent kidney biopsy between 2008-2016 were reviewed. The data were processed using Stata 16.1 Results: 2278 medical records were used. They corresponded to 1234 women and 1044 men. The most frequent primary and secondary glomerulonephritis were focal and segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) 683 (29.98%) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) 434 (19.04%) respectively. A total of 1644 biopsied patients were analyzed 36 (2.19%), 241 (14.66%) had major and minor complications respectively. Major complications were more frequent when the procedure was performed by radiology with ultrasound guidance compared to that performed by the nephrologist without ultrasound guidance (p = 0.03694). From a total of 1324 patients, 329 underwent kidney biopsy while on hemodialysis, 43 (13.07%) managed to get out of this therapy, and 144 (51.99%) had major or minor complications. Conclusion: FSGS and SLE were the most frequent primary and secondary glomerulonephritis, respectively. In 1644 patients the major and minor complications were 36 (2.19%) and 241 (14.66%) respectively. In 1,324 patients, 329 (24.8%) were biopsied while on hemodialysis, and 144 (51.99%) of them had major or minor complications.

Targeted treatment ,Hypercapnic respiratory failure ,Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) ,Non-invasive ventilation (NIV) ,Hypoventilation - Abstract
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is expected to be the 3(rd)leading cause of death worldwide by 2020. Despite improvements in survival by using acute non-invasive ventilation (NIV) to treat patients with exacerbations of COPD complicated by acute hypercapnic respiratory failure (AHRF), these patients are at high risk of readmission and further life-threatening events, including death. Recent studies suggested that NIV at home can reduce readmissions, but in a small proportion of patients, and with a high level of expertise. Other studies, however, do not show any benefit of home NIV. This could be related to the fact that respiratory failure in patients with stable COPD and their response to mechanical ventilation are influenced by several pathophysiological factors which frequently coexist in the same patient to varying degrees. These pathophysiological factors might influence the success of home NIV in stable COPD, thus long-term NIV specifically adapted to a patient's "phenotype" is likely to improve prognosis, reduce readmission to hospital, and prevent death. In view of this conundrum, Rescue2-monitor (R2M), an open-label, prospective randomized, controlled study performed in patients with hypercapnic COPD post-AHRF, will investigate the impact of the quality of nocturnal NIV on the readmission-free survival. The primary objective is to show that any of 3 home NIV strategies ("rescue," "non-targeted," and "targeted") will improve readmission-free survival in comparison to no-home NIV. The "targeted" group of patients will receive a treatment with personalized (targeted) ventilation settings and extensive monitoring. Furthermore, the influence of comorbidities typical for COPD patients, such as cardiac insufficiency, OSA, or associated asthma, on ventilation outcomes will be taken into consideration and reasons for non-inclusion of patients will be recorded in order to evaluate the percentage of ventilated COPD patients that are screening failures. Mediterranean region -- Natural history ,Tectonics (Geology) -- Analysis ,Orogeny -- Analysis ,Geological research ,Earth sciences - Abstract
[1] Mediterranean tectonics results in tight orogenic arcs enclosing back-arc basins of oceanic or thinned continental lithosphere. The Gibraltar Arc cannot be explained solely by the Europe-Africa plate convergence; therefore complementary mechanisms have been proposed. Most of them imply a westward motion of the arc and a general transpressive regime on both branches (Betic and Rif chains). A structural revision made along the western Gibraltar Arc allows us to generate a detailed kynematic map and to introduce new constraints on the possible arc formation mechanisms. Our results suggest that the strain partitioned into two main types of structures: structures accommodating suborthogonal shortening (folds and thrusts) and structures accommodating arc-parallel stretching (normal faults, conjugate strike-slip faults, and distributed minor structures). On the basis of the fan pattern depicted by the slip direction of contractional structures and the homogeneous distribution of arc-parallel stretching, an arc formation mode close to the piedmont glacier type is suggested.

Visual understanding of 3-D environments in real time, at low power, is a huge computational challenge. Often referred to as simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM), it is central to applications spanning domestic and industrial robotics, autonomous vehicles, and virtual and augmented reality. This paper describes the results of a major research effort to assemble the algorithms, architectures, tools, and systems software needed to enable delivery of SLAM, by supporting applications specialists in selecting and configuring the appropriate algorithm and the appropriate hardware, and compilation pathway, to meet their performance, accuracy, and energy consumption goals. The major contributions we present are: 1) tools and methodology for systematic quantitative evaluation of SLAM algorithms; 2) automated, machine-learning-guided exploration of the algorithmic and implementation design space with respect to multiple objectives; 3) end-to-end simulation tools to enable optimization of heterogeneous, accelerated architectures for the specific algorithmic requirements of the various SLAM algorithmic approaches; and 4) tools for delivering, where appropriate, accelerated, adaptive SLAM solutions in a managed, JIT-compiled, adaptive runtime context.

The European Randomized Study of Screening for Prostate Cancer (ERSPC) demonstrated that prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screening significantly reduced prostate cancer mortality (rate ratio, 0.79; 95% confidence interval, 0.69-0.91). The US Prostate, Lung, Colorectal, and Ovarian (PLCO) trial indicated no such reduction but had a wide 95% CI (rate ratio for prostate cancer mortality, 1.09; 95% CI, 0.87-1.36). Standard meta-analyses are unable to account for key differences between the trials that can impact the estimated effects of screening and the trials' point estimates. The authors calibrated 2 microsimulation models to individual-level incidence and mortality data from 238,936 men participating in the ERSPC and PLCO trials. A cure parameter for the underlying efficacy of screening was estimated by the models separately for each trial. The authors changed step-by-step major known differences in trial settings, including enrollment and attendance patterns, screening intervals, PSA thresholds, biopsy receipt, control arm contamination, and primary treatment, to reflect a more ideal protocol situation and differences between the trials.Using the cure parameter estimated for the ERSPC, the models projected 19% to 21% and 6% to 8%, respectively, prostate cancer mortality reductions in the ERSPC and PLCO settings. Using this cure parameter, the models projected a reduction of 37% to 43% under annual screening with 100% attendance and biopsy compliance and no contamination. The cure parameter estimated for the PLCO trial was 0.The observed cancer mortality reduction in screening trials appears to be highly sensitive to trial protocol and practice settings. Accounting for these differences, the efficacy of PSA screening in the PLCO setting is not necessarily inconsistent with ERSPC results. Cancer 2018;124:1197-206. © 2017 American Cancer Society.
