We describe a new species of plethodontid salamander of the genus Pseudoeurycea from the Sierra de Zongolica, Veracruz, Mexico. The new species is distinguished from all other species in the genus by morphological and genetic features and by coloration. Based on a mtDNA phylogeny, the new species belongs to the Pseudoeurycea juarezi group and is most closely related to P. ruficauda from the Sierra Mazateca in northern Oaxaca. The newly described salamander increases the number of species of plethodontid salamanders from Veracruz to 43 and those recognized from Mexico to 140.

El presente estudio se realizó en dos lagos de importancia ecoturistica, el lago del Jardín Borda (JB) y el lago del Parque Alameda Solidaridad (PAS), en el municipio de Cuernavaca, Morelos, México. Se estableció una sola localidad en cada lago y se realizaron muestreos mensuales de noviembre 2014 a mayo 2015. La comunidad zooplanctónica estuvo constituida por 16 especies (12 rotíferos, dos copépodos y dos cladóceros): el lago JB registró solamente 10 especies y el lago PAS 11 especies, con siete especies comunes para ambos lagos. El análisis de redundancia (RDA) en JB pondera al zooplancton con el pH y la alcalinidad, mientras que en el lago PAS se relaciona el zooplancton con la temperatura del agua, oxígeno disuelto, transparencia y pH en la temporada de estiaje frío. La estructura de la comunidad se pudiera utilizar como bioindicador de la evaluación de la calidad del agua, mientras que sus cambios a largo plazo deben ser monitoreados.

In the framework of the updating of the Cuban economic and social model of socialist development, the environmental issue is present in the "National Plan for Economic and Social Development until 2030", which is committed to mechanisms that from the direction of territorial governments have a positive impact on the environment. In line with this claim, the priority of environmentally training government officials of the People's Power, who are responsible for leading this process in terms of local development, is recognized. Consequently, the objective of this work was to socialize the theoretical references associated with the environmental training of government officials of the People's Power. Theoretical and empirical methods were used for the documentary revision and systematization of knowledge. Among the main results, the key role of the environmental dimension as a transversal element in the management of local development was confirmed, highlighting for its achievement the importance of contributing to the improvement of this formative process, attending to environmental management, which allowed meaning its preparation in the implementation of participative environmental education processes in the community that favor the formulation and management of more sustainable public policies.

Background Bodily illusions can be used to investigate the experience of being in a body by manipulating the underlying processes of multisensory integration. Research suggests that people with eating disorders (EDs) may have impairments in visual, interoceptive, proprioceptive, and tactile bodily perception. Furthermore, people with EDs also show abnormalities in integrating multisensory visuo-tactile and visual-auditory signals related to the body, which may contribute to the development of body image disturbances. Visuo-auditory integration abnormalities have been observed also in people with subthreshold ED symptomatology. However, it remains unclear whether these impairments are specific to bodily signals or if they extend to any auditory signals. Methods We will recruit 50 participants (aged 18–24; females assigned at birth) with ED symptomatology (subthreshold group) and 50 control participants. The Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire will be administered to screen for ED symptomatology and divide the sample into two groups accordingly (control and subthreshold group using a clinical cut-off score of 2.8). The strength of both illusions will be measured implicitly with estimations of body part position and size, and explicitly with self-report questionnaires. As a secondary aim, regression analysis will be run to test the predictive role of susceptibility for both illusions on interoceptive body awareness (measured by the Multidimensional Assessment of Interoceptive Awareness Scale) and sensory-processing sensitivity (measured by the Highly Sensitive Person Scale). Discussion Our study may contribute to our understanding of the mechanisms underlying body image disturbances. The results may pave the way for novel clinical interventions targeting early symptoms prior to the development of the disorder in young females.

Oaxaca es el estado de México con mayor riqueza de especies de herpetozoarios, pero también es uno de los diez estados con mayor tasa de deforestación del país. Por lo tanto, contar con listas actualizadas de las especies de herpetozoarios que se distribuyen en una región y las amenazas que enfrentan, son la base para establecer buenas políticas de conservación para estas especies. La herpetofauna de Santiago Clavellinas y Zaachila, Oaxaca, ha sido estudiada parcialmente y no existe un inventario actualizado de las especies que se distribuyen en esta región, la cual está ubicada entre las subprovincias fisiográficas de los Valles Centrales de Oaxaca y las Montañas y Valles del Occidente de Oaxaca. El listado de la herpetofauna lo integramos con registros obtenidos durante 15 años de trabajo de campo, y fue complementado con información recuperada de plataformas digitales. En total registramos 70 especies de herpetozoarios, 14 de anfibios y 56 de reptiles. Dieciséis especies representan nuevos registros de distribución para los Valles Centrales y seis lo son para las Montañas y Valles del Occidente. El 61.7% de las especies nativas son endémicas de México, de las cuales el 11.7% son endémicas de Oaxaca. El 39.7% de las especies nativas están clasificadas bajo alguna categoría de riesgo de acuerdo con la NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010 y la lista roja de la IUCN. El bosque de pino-encino con 46 especies, el bosque de encino con 42 y el pastizal de tierras bajas con 36, fueron los hábitat con mayor riqueza específica. Las principales amenazas identificadas para la herpetofauna fue el incremento de la urbanización en los Valles Centrales, mientras que la deforestación y carencia de programas de gestión forestal sustentable lo fue para las Montañas y Valles del Occidente de Oaxaca.

En esta nota se reporta una nueva localidad para Geophis lorancai, especie endémica de los estados de Puebla y Veracruz y se discute brevemente su potencial tolerancia a la perturbación.

Se evaluó la calidad de agua mediante parámetros físicos, químicos y microbiológicos en estanques utilizados para el cultivo de peces de ornato y de consumo, así como de la fuente de abastecimiento de una unidad de producción. Para ello, se evaluó un total de 14 parámetros físicos, químicos y microbiológicos durante dos temporadas de estiaje; frío (diciembre 2018 y febrero 2019) y cálido (marzo y mayo 2019) en siete estanques, así como la fuente de abastecimiento de agua. Los resultados obtenidos por algunos parámetros, mostraron concentraciones fuera de lo establecido para cultivo de peces. En cuanto al índice de calidad de agua (ICA) Dinius, se obtuvieron rangos de 60 a 80 los cuales permanecieron dentro de la clasificación de calidad que va de “excelente a aceptable” para pesca y vida acuática; con los rangos obtenidos se pueden agregar criterios para uso en riego agrícola y recreación.

[EN] Case-based learning (CBL) is a methodology that involves the presentation of a well-designed clinical problem, through a case of a real patient. This system allows the student to acquire autonomy, manage and synthesize relevant information to implement individualized solutions for each case. Based on this, in the Occupational Therapy Degree we have developed an international cooperation project to collaborate with disability care centers in southern countries. We have created an assessment app that allows you to collect relevant patient data, receive it immediately from anywhere in the world. Teachers and students value them and propose treatments, interacting in real time with care centers or with the patients themselves. The students have very positively valued this learning system that brings them closer from the first years to the reality of professional performance and that the transversality in the study by involving several teaching subjects., [ES] El aprendizaje basado en casos (case-based learning o CBL) es una metodología que implica la presentación de un problema clínico bien diseñado, a través de un caso de un paciente real. Este sistema permite al estudiante adquirir autonomía, gestionar y sintetizar información relevante para implementar soluciones individualizadas a cada caso.En base a esto en el Grado de Terapia Ocupacional hemos desarrollado un proyecto de cooperación internacional para colaborar con centros asistenciales de discapacidad en países del sur. Hemos creado una app de valoración que permite recoger datos relevantes de pacientes, recibirlos de forma inmediata desde cualquier parte del mundo. Profesores y alumnos los valoran y proponer tratamientos, interactuando en tiempo real con centros asistenciales o con los propios pacientes.Los alumnos han valorado muy positivamente este sistema de aprendizaje que les acerca desde los primeros cursos a la realidad del desempeño profesional y que la transversalidad en el estudio al implicar varias materias docentes.

Background: Burnout syndrome is one of the most frequent health complications among workers. Acknowledging the work perspective as something basic and essential in a person’s life means that this disorder can have huge implications in their most basic daily activities. Methods: A cross-sectional, quantitative observational design was conducted with data from Spanish workers. A serial mediation model was applied to study the relationship between daily activities and burnout syndrome. For this purpose, the IDA scale was developed. Conclusions: The results show us that peoples’ work situation has an impact on their daily life. There is quantitative evidence of the impact on daily life occupations and how it further decreases the levels of health and well-being of the person, on their independence and, consequently, on their quality of life.

The Selva Zoque region is characterized by a great variety of ecosystems for which there is little information about reptile species diversity and their conservation status. This study is the first assessment of the species richness, composition, and conservation status of reptiles of this region. Additionally, this information is compared with that of seven other tropical regions in northern Mesoamerica. In total, 141 native reptile species belonging to 81 genera and 29 families are recorded for the Selva Zoque region. Sixty species (42% of the total) recorded in Selva Zoque are in high-risk categories according to the Mexican Ministry of the Environment, the highest number for the Mexican regions of Mesoamerica. According to the IUCN, six species are in high-risk categories, seven species are in Data Deficient, and 23 (16%) have not been evaluated yet. According to the Environmental Vulnerability Scores approach, 28 species (20%) are in the high vulnerability category. The Selva Zoque species composition is most similar to Los Tuxtlas and Lacandona regions, and most dissimilar to Sian Ka´an Biosphere Reserve. The reptilian fauna of Selva Zoque has a distinctive composition, with the highest number (11 species) of endemic reptiles in the northern Mesoamerican, and species from two biogeographic provinces: the Gulf of Mexico and the Mexican Pacific Coast. These results indicate that the Selva Zoque is the most diverse region in native reptile species in northern Mesoamerica, highlighting it as extremely important for the conservation of the reptile fauna at local (southern Mexico) and regional levels (northern Mesoamerica).

Los microreservorios son sistemas acuaticos que son afectados por la epoca de secas y lluvias y por lo tanto, modifican la concentracion de las diferentes especies quimicas presentes en los cuerpos de agua, asi como la abundancia de los organismos del plancton, fuente de alimento para las especies icticas de importancia economica y ecologica presentes en estos embalses artificiales y naturales. El objetivo fue analizar la calidad del agua y reconocer el estado trofico del bordo “La Palapa”, Morelos durante un ciclo anual, con base en el analisis de las variables fisicas, quimicas y biologicas. Se realizaron muestreos mensuales de septiembre del 2014 a agosto del 2015 en dos estaciones de monitoreo, para evaluar el Indice del Estado Trofico (IET), parametros fisico-quimicos, clorofila a y la abundancia de fitoplancton. Los datos indican que es un cuerpo de agua somero (1.1 a 4 m), con agua calidas (22 a 28°C), buena oxigenacion (de 2 a 9 mg l -1 ) con curva clinograda tipicas de cuerpos de agua eutroficos, ligeramente alcalino (pH entre 7.4 y 8.8), aguas duras (>150 mg l -1 ), productivo (118 mg l -1 en promedio) con niveles entre 20 y 90 µg l -1 de clorofila a. Las concentraciones de fosforo total fluctuaron entre 0.1 y 1.57 mg l -1 y los nitratos entre 0.03 y 0.84 mg l -1 , adecuadas para mantener una alta productividad primaria. Se registraron cinco divisiones de fitoplancton dominando Chlorophyta (69%) y Cianobacteria (25%). Se observo baja abundancia del fitoplancton durante epoca de lluvias y alta abundancia en epoca de secas. Algunos de los generos dominantes fueron Chlorella, Chroococcus, Desmococcus, Euglena, Fragilaria, Microcystis, Monoraphidium, Oscillatoria, Scenedesmus y Stephanodiscus . Con base en el IET, el microreservorio se caracterizo como un sistema eutrofico con tendencia a la hipereutrofia. El sistema presenta adecuadas condiciones para obtener una buena produccion piscicola.

Background Experimental research based on bodily illusions suggests that people with eating disorders (EDs) might have impairments in visual, interoceptive, proprioceptive, and tactile perception, potentially underpinning altered multisensory integration processes. Along this line, research indicates that people with EDs show abnormalities in integrating multisensory visuo-tactile signals, which might contribute to the development of body image disturbances in EDs. More recently, an altered integration of auditory signals related to body weight has been also shown for people with EDs. However, it remains unclear whether these impairments extend to any auditory signals, even if not related to body weight. To fill the gap, the present study will investigate whether participants with ED symptomatology and control participants differ in two auditory feedback tasks which will involve integration of auditory and proprioceptive cues using artificial non-naturalistic sounds. We will test two different body parts (i.e., fingers and waist) which have different levels of emotional saliency for people with EDs. Methods Recruitment will be through convenience sampling. The EDE-Q questionnaire will be administered as a screening tool to split the sample into participants with and without ED symptomatology. The strength of both illusions will be measured implicitly with estimations of body part position and size, and explicitly with self-report questionnaires. As a secondary aim, regression analysis will be carried out to test the predictive role of susceptibility for both illusions on ED symptomatology, interoceptive body awareness and sensory-processing sensitivity. Discussion Our study might contribute to our understanding of the aetiology of body image disturbances. The results may lay the ground for novel clinical interventions which aim to improve symptoms at the early stages of the illness.

This narrative review conforms a complete guide to the human holobiont—comprising the host and all its symbiont populations- summarizes the latest and most significant research findings in human microbiome. It pretends to be a comprehensive resource in the field, describing all human body niches and their dominant microbial taxa while discussing common perturbations on microbial homeostasis, impacts of urbanization and restoration and humanitarian efforts to preserve good microbes from extinction.

Se hace una recopilación de los cambios taxonómicos y nomenclaturales que afectan la taxonomía de las especies mexicanas de anfibios y reptiles. Asimismo se da una lista de las especies nuevas para la ciencia descritas en los últimos once años y las especies que se citan por primera vez para México. Se registran estos cambios y adiciones hasta diciembre de 2003. Con esta información, se eleva el número de especies de anfibios y reptiles de México de 997 a 1165 desde la publicación de la última lista de especies de herpetozoos para el país.

Faced to the challenges proposed by the Sustainable Development Goals approved internationally in the 2030 Agenda, the key role of the University in its achievement is recognized. In order to evaluate the contributions of the Center for Environmental and Natural Resources Studies, of the University of Pinar del Río "Hermanos Saíz Montes de Oca" , Cuba, in the period 2017-2018, in favor of the Sustainable Development Goals, a qualitative investigation was conducted through theoretical methods; the analysis / synthesis, and the documentary analysis as procedures and research techniques respectively. Perceived postgraduate and research activities that responded to the Sustainable Development Goals in the period evaluated were identified and quantified. 434 actions were carried out that paid 52.9% of the Objectives. Objective 4 "Quality education", Objective 11 "Sustainable cities and communities" and Objective 15 "Life of terrestrial ecosystems" were the most significant, with 160, 80 and 70 activities respectively. The graduate contributed 50 courses and 24 master theses; while the research paid tribute to 48 publications, 11 projects, 24 awards and 133 papers, of which 42 were presented at national and international scientific events. It is concluded that through the training and research processes, the Study Center was able to advance in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals with emphasis from environmental education; however, it is necessary to strengthen actions that respond to all the objectives, as well as increase awareness and training activities.

The Cuban Brown Anole (Anolis sagrei) is native to the Bahamas, the Cuba Archipelago, and Little Cayman, but is now among the world’s most widely distributed invasive lizards. In Mexico, the species has been reported from the states of Campeche, Chiapas, Jalisco, Quintana Roo, Tabasco, Tamaulipas, Veracruz, and Yucatán. However, no complete compendium exists summarizing the locality-level distribution of A. sagrei in Mexico. Herein we provide an exhaustive compilation of vouchered Mexican specimens based on museum records and the literature. Supplementing this review are reports of five new localities for A. sagrei in Veracruz and Tabasco. We conclude with brief comments on the potential ecological effects of this species in Mexico.

Review [Abstract] Pedagogical practices contribute to enhancing professional intelligence which is an indicator of maturity and development of professional identity. The research guiding question was: What are the pedagogical practices involved in occupational therapy students' professional identity formation? A scoping review using a six-stage methodological framework was used to capture a variety of evidence describing how professional identity has been conceptualised and integrated into the occupational therapy curriculum while noticing a link to professional intelligence. Databases included were: Ovid MEDLINE, CINAHL, PsycINFO, ProQuest ERIC, Scopus, Web of Science, CSIC, Dialnet, PubMed, Pubmed Central, OTDBASE and Scielo. Qualitative content analysis was used to categorise learning outcomes into five components of professional identity that were associated with the pedagogical practices identified in the studies. n = 58 peer-reviewed journal articles were recorded. The articles were classified as intervention studies (n = 31; 53.4%), reviews (n = 12; 20.7%) and theoretical articles (n = 15; 25.9%). To ensure the feasibility of collecting and reporting results, we narrowed the focus to n = 31 intervention studies that provided information on pedagogical practices and learning outcomes on professional identity forging in students. This scoping review illustrates the variety of contexts in which students learn, the multiple dimensions of identity establishment, and the variety of pedagogical practices. These findings can be used to adapt and design focused formative curricula that support the development of professional identity.

(1) Background: This study examines the nature of the rarely studied factors of the professional identity from an occupational therapist’s perspective. (2) Methods: Q-methodology was applied to identify the different perspectives. Participants were selected through a non-probability sampling procedure in the whole Spanish territory. Different assessment tools were considered, in order to develop an ad hoc tool which had 40 statements classified into four categories. A factor analysis was performed by applying Ken-Q analysis v.1.0. (3) Results: Thirty-seven occupational therapists participated in the study. Their diverse approaches revealed different perspectives that influence the professional identity of occupational therapists: professional identity, due to referents, a grey field on professional identity, reaffirming a common professional identity, the role of education and mentors on professional identity and the outcome of ongoing training, in order to develop the abovementioned identity. (4) Conclusions: Once the different aspects of the professional identity have been understood, future educational initiatives can be designed to adapt curricula to the professional scene.
