The development of large cities and the increased demand for mobility in them has required improvements and changes in the way we transport ourselves. This change has generated new urban mobility environments, some more efficient than others, depending on the country, culture, and society in which it develops. Besides, in these times of rapid exponential changes, it is useful to have informal and unstructured organizations that help generate an open and interactive ecosystem for the exchange of ideas and the flow of information that founded and strengthened innovation projects. This article describes the different actors whose role is relevant in an Interactive Ecosystem of Research, Innovation, Engineering and Entrepreneurship to generate consensus on common objectives related to the deep and positive transformation of society. This article aims to contribute to the debate and reflection on one of the main socio-technical systems, the smart electromobility in emerging countries. In particular, we will discuss the case of Mexico in-depth, but we will review some other efforts that have been occurring in other emerging countries. A conceptual model and framework is proposed to address in a systematic and Interactive way the Research, Innovation, Engineering and Entrepreneurship Ecosystem of Electromobility.

The characterization of urban circuits for autonomous navigation is a crucial task for a fast integration of this technology in the near future. The purpose of this article is to present a proposal, that includes a sensor system that can acquire the necessary information to create an interactive redesign of an urban circuit for autonomous and electric vehicles. This proposal specifically consists in the instrumentation of a vehicle with a sensor system (Electronic and Computer Vision) that allows measurements on asphalt quality, quantity and type of signs, quality of communications systems, lane lines, vehicle dynamics, detection of other vehicles and any other element that helps to properly characterize a Smart Electromobility route. Once the information is captured, an analysis and mapping of the route is carried out to evaluate and redesign improvements in the route that allows the implementation of a Smart Electromobility circuit (for electric and autonomous vehicles). The system is developed and evaluated in an urban test route of Mexico City and the initial results are presented in this work.

The development of intelligent vehicles has been increasing at great speed in recent years, which has allowed to improve their capabilities in autonomous driving systems. Many of these features are related to advanced driving assistance systems and autonomous driving systems. This capability improvement, has been achieved because of recent developments of automation oriented software and hardware. Such improvements, allowed the vehicle to achieve a more precise perception of it’s working environment. For this improvement it is important the integration and simulation of the systems in different configurations, such as hardware-in-the-loop, software-in-the-loop and model-in-the-loop. In this paper, we present a framework proposal that allows the design and testing of computer vision and control systems for the partial automation of a vehicle, with the use of hardware and software systems in the loop. This proposal is focused on the rapid experimental development of these systems for the implementation by autonomous vehicle designers and engineers. Our proposal allows faster data capture, either in a real or simulated environment, to improve and optimize data training with machine learning algorithms; this proposal integrates several open source systems and hardware with the necessary capacity for real-time implementation.

The Emotional Domotics (home automation) is a concept that has been one of the main focus of our research team seeks to integrate the subject or user of an inhabitable space as central element for the modulation and control of the environmental variables in a house automation implementation for the life quality improvement and in consequence as a method to reduce stress. Even though this project is centered on domotics systems. The development and implementations proved useful as a User Experience analysis tool for products and services. The research originally proposed working with the analysis of the influence of environmental variables on the emotional and physiological response. The first experimental results led to the finding of the emotional response time dynamics (Navarro-Tuch et al., in: SAI Intelligent Systems Conference. London, pp 567–571, 2016). Such dynamics were important for further design and implementation of the testing methodology for response analysis to alternative stimuli. The final sections of the work present a final experiment in which the stimuli contemplated were the temperature, humidity, light intensity and visual stimuli with the corresponding testing methodology implementation. Which led to the final correlation equations for each of five basic emotions selected. These equations may allow us to propose an initial plant model for a control system to be developed by further research.

Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) have caught people&rsquo, s attention in recent years, not only from an academic or developmental viewpoint but also because of the wide range of applications that these vehicles may entail, such as intelligent mobility and logistics, as well as for industrial purposes, among others. The open literature contains a variety of works related to the subject. They employ a diversity of techniques ranging from probabilistic to ones based on Artificial Intelligence. The increase in computing capacity, well known to many, has opened plentiful opportunities for the algorithmic processing needed by these applications, making way for the development of autonomous navigation, in many cases with astounding results. The following paper presents a low-cost but high-performance minimal sensor open architecture implemented in a modular vehicle. It was developed in a short period of time, surpassing many of the currently available solutions found in the literature. Diverse experiments were carried out in the controlled and circumscribed environment of an autonomous circuit that demonstrates the efficiency of the applicability of the developed solution.

Road traffic accidents are a leading cause of deaths globally and represent the main cause of death among 15–29 years olds (World Health Organization in Global status report on road safety 2015, World Health Organization, Geneva, 2015). Efforts have been made to develop and improve advanced driver assistance systems as to provide better quality of driving and reduce the number of traffic accidents. However, most of the current solutions focus on developing systems for fully autonomous cars. This study investigates a modular architecture that could potentially assist drivers in situations such as traffic jams, autonomous parking, and detection of obstacles such as pedestrians. The aim is to develop a low-cost driver assistance system that could be acquired and easily incorporated by non-technical users. It is becoming increasingly feasible to build a powerful and low-cost system because of the low cost of big-sized cameras, electronics, and processing cards. As a proof of the concept, a hardware and software solution had been developed for autonomous steering-wheel actuation that only utilizes a stereoscopic camera sensor.

In recent years, through the evolution of intelligent transport systems (ITS), there has been an increase in components to monitor different variables in the vehicles (such as driver monitoring, tire pressure, oil pressure, vehicle speed, acceleration, among others). Internet of Things (IoT) is enabling the collection of a variety of information of all types of components for monitoring the environment and systems. Also, as part of this evolution, the original concept of Vehicular Ad-hoc networks (VANETs) is being transformed into a new concept, the Internet of Vehicles (IoV), which involves Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V), Vehicle to Infrastructure (V2I) communications, and other variations of these (V2X).In this paper, a review of the state of the art of the technologies and architectures generated around the Internet of the vehicles (IoV) is carried out and with this, an implementation of the simulation of intelligent vehicular communications through the IEEE 802.11p protocol and one of its applications. An algorithm for the generation of vehicular convoys to improve vehicle flow application through V2X communication is proposed and implemented in the simulation, and the communication quality is validated in a closed route in an urban environment during the simulations, omitting aspects of security in communications.

Autonomous Driving is a topic each time more relevant due to the great role that autonomous and connected vehicles could take in the development of smart cities around the world. And, even when some prototypes are now capable of driving alone in some scenarios, it is true that a fully autonomous car does not exist yet. The present work pretends to give to the reader a general context about autonomous vehicles and a perspective of this technology and its evolution in a really difficult context such as the Mexican, which is comparable with others like the Latin American. They are also presented some of the most relevant tests and/or works made around this topic with a direct impact in Mexico.

The KNX Standard was developed by the Konnex Association for the design of home automation applications, so the Engineering Tool Software (ETS) was created for the control of smart buildings and it works with its own protocol, the KNXnet/IP protocol. However, the KNXnet/IP protocol is designed exclusively for home automation applications and it is intended to be implemented in different areas, such as biometric applications, for future projects. To achieve this, it is proposed to understand and emulate the operation of the KNXnet/IP telegrams. Wireshark software was used to interpret the protocol telegrams and replicate their operation using MATLAB/Simulink tools. The development of the program on MATLAB/Simulink managed to effectively emulate the behavior of the KNXnet/IP protocol and establish an adequate communication between the computer and the KNX control board.

Advances in the development of autonomous and semi-autonomous driving vehicles in recent years has allowed to dazzle a near future in which the transportation systems will be based on this type of vehicles, especially focused for different types of services and a decrease in the particular use; generating with it the removal of the equation of the human error in road accidents and a reduce up to 90% deaths caused by this type of accident [1]. That is why this paper will generate an analysis and comparison of different architectures currently proposed in the academy as in the industry, and present our proposal and scope currently developed to semi-automate a car with a modular mechatronic system.

In this work is presented a novel approach for passive safety in vehicles by Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) alert emission in 360° around driver to notify about hazards nearby the vehicle depending on the actions taken by driver per the context. This proposal would create a more robust system compared to current passive ADAS systems since the feedback to driver is in the same direction that hazard is detected (Punctual Sound Source Alert), compared with most assistance systems that emits sounds from the monitor or from the dashboard provoking distractions when emits alerts unnecessarily. The increase of security by this method will allow the driver to be aware of their surroundings even in a very quiet cabin or in a noisy environment. Also, it would detect the steering wheel angle, speed of movement and the activation of turning lights among other alerts, which would allow us to define a critical action during driving; apart from using sensors and cameras aimed at the driver to detect patterns of movement during these critical actions and have a prediction of a possible turn or manoeuvre when driving, refer to Figure 1. It will be necessary a reconfiguration of the alert in frequency, time of action depending upon the level of risk to prevent an accident or to reduce the consequences in an imminent accident.
