Abstract

Throughout the 16th and 17th centuries, many builders, artists, and architects living on the shores of Italian lakes decided to settle in Poland. Upon arrival, they pursued brilliant careers in various areas of life. Over time, they became Polonized. This was also the case for Giovanni Battista Trevano, who was active in Krakow in the first half of the 17th century and whose lifetime achievement was to become the royal architect of the Vasa kings. This article presents Trevano's artistic oeuvre and provides insight into his social, economic, and intellectual status in the new community, including the architect's offspring, who pursued successful careers in army, church, and state offices throughout the 17th and 18th centuries. These new findings are based on manuscripts that have recently been discovered by the author of the article in both Polish and Swiss archives. They allow for expanding the knowledge of the Trevano family's genealogy and biography, and correcting some unjustified views in the discourse. On the basis of research on new archival sources, one can conclude that Giovanni Battista Trevano was a prominent architect, who is credited with introducing in Poland the early Baroque style, which soon became dominant in northern European art. Abstract

Objectives: Currently, positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT)‐based Ann Arbor and Lugano staging systems are widely applied for gastric lymphoma, which majorly focused on the extent of systemic invasion, but there is insufficient assessment in extent of gastric wall invasion. Thus, we aimed to assess the value of linear‐array EUS in therapeutic response and prognosis prediction, and provide an endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)‐based staging system for gastric lymphoma. Methods: Between January 2012 and October 2019, 191 patients with histologically confirmed gastric lymphoma were included. We analyzed patients' clinicopathologic data, white‐light appearance, EUS staging, tumor extension, and therapeutic regime to identify the predictors for complete remission (CR) and progression‐free survival (PFS). Results: With a median follow‐up period of 547 days, 136 patients achieved CR. Multivariate regression analysis identified EUS T stage three CR predictors, including T stage (T2–T4 vs. T1, OR = 0.271, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.108–0.683, P = 0.0085) was the independent predictor. The Ki67 index, lesion surface, EUS stage, tumor extension, and regime predicted PFS, but tumor extension was the only independent predictor (local vs. system, OR = 6.005, 95%CI = 2.365–15.236, P < 0.001). The concordance index (C‐index) was higher for CR rate in the EUS‐based staging [0.673; 95% CI = 0.628–0.718] than Lugano staging [0.663; 95% CI 0.616–0.710], and for PFS in the EUS‐based staging [0.694; 95% CI 0.586–0.802] than Lugano staging [0.684; 95% CI 0.564–0.804]. Conclusions: An EUS‐based staging system is suitable for CR and PFS prediction in gastric lymphoma, with highly informative assessment in extent of gastric wall invasion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The smart city is defined as a mix of urban strategies aimed at optimizing and innovating public services. Current cities are hybrid and affected by complex systems with inter-institutional collaboration. This study aims to understand which variables are most present and important according to the literature review and comparative analysis of two case studies. Methodology: The authors have chosen the emerging smart city of Turin and Lugano to conduct a cross-analysis based on the matrix proposed by Yin (2017). This research is characterized as a holistic study of multiple cases. Findings: The research was carried out thanks to results produced by literature and emerging from the analysis of realities exposed, to assess the performance of projects and urban sustainability. A set of 71 indicators has been designed to assess the impacts of a smart city. 5 Indicators are related to management performance, 18 to governance and 48 to reporting. Value Added: This research aims to implement the theory of information reporting by providing guidelines for indicators in inter-institutional, cross-sectoral and multi-level contexts maximising smart factors in cities and meeting stakeholder needs in a hybrid organization. Ma è anche una città reale, da lui conosciuta e frequentata fin da ragazzo; è luogo di gite e di svaghi quando lo scrittore soggiorna a Oria; è luogo d’incontro con amici e conoscenti. Non stupisce dunque che Lugano sia menzionata in diverse opere dello scrittore, soprattutto in Piccolo mondo antico. E compulsando questo romanzo si è cercato di dipanare l’articolata funzione narrativa della cittadina svizzera. Per raggiungere lo scopo si è dato particolare spazio alle citazioni testuali.

Abstract

Throughout the 16th and 17th centuries, many builders, artists, and architects living on the shores of Italian lakes decided to settle in Poland. Upon arrival, they pursued brilliant careers in various areas of life. Over time, they became Polonized. This was also the case for Giovanni Battista Trevano, who was active in Krakow in the first half of the 17th century and whose lifetime achievement was to become the royal architect of the Vasa kings. This article presents Trevano’s artistic oeuvre and provides insight into his social, economic, and intellectual status in the new community, including the architect’s offspring, who pursued successful careers in army, church, and state offices throughout the 17th and 18th centuries. These new findings are based on manuscripts that have recently been discovered by the author of the article in both Polish and Swiss archives. They allow for expanding the knowledge of the Trevano family’s genealogy and biography, and correcting some unjustified views in the discourse. On the basis of research on new archival sources, one can conclude that Giovanni Battista Trevano was a prominent architect, who is credited with introducing in Poland the early Baroque style, which soon became dominant in northern European art.

Abstract

Meine Arbeit konzentriert sich auf die Sanierung eines städtischen Leerraums im Herzen der Stadt Lugano.Das betroffene Gebiet liegt entlang des Flusses Cassarate, welcher einst die östliche Grenze der Stadt darstellte. Das Ex Macello wurde Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts in einem Areal gebaut, welches ursprünglich am Rande von Lugano lag, aber infolge der Entwicklung der Stadt in den letzten 100 Jahren wurde dieses Gebiet Teil des Stadtgefüges. Aus diesem Grund wurde es im Jahr 1993 geschlossen und hatte von diesem Zeitpunkt an keine klare Funktion mehr. Seit seiner Schließung bis heute wird es teilweise als Sozialzentrum der “CSOA Molino” und als Lager des Rathauses genutzt. Angesichts der Verschlechterung der Struktur hat die Stadt Lugano nach verschiedenen Studien am 11. Oktober 2019 den Wettbewerb für die Sanierung des ehemaligen Schlachthofs eröffnet. Es geht also darum, dieses Gebiet sowohl in architektonischer als auch in sozialer Hinsicht optimal zu sanieren und aufzuwerten, wobei die Erhaltung eines Kulturgutes im Auge behalten werden muss., My work focuses on the redevelopment of an urban void in the heart of the city of Lugano. The affected area is located along the Cassarate River, which once represented the eastern boundary of the city.The Ex Macello was built at the end of the 19th century in an area that was originally on the outskirts of Lugano, but as a result of the development of the city in the last 100 years, this area became part of the urban fabric. For this reason it was closed in 1993 and from then on it had no clear function. Since its closure until today, it has been partially used as a social center of the “CSOA Molino” and as a warehouse of the City Hall. In view of the deterioration of the structure, the City of Lugano, after various studies, has opened on October 11, 2019 the competition for the redevelopment of the former slaughterhouse. It is therefore a question of optimally redeveloping and enhancing this area, bothfrom an architectural and social point of view, keeping in mind the preservation of a cultural asset.

Abstract

We evaluated the incidence of pseudoprogression and indeterminate response (IR) in patients with lymphoma treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). A systematic search of PubMed and EMBASE was performed up to 6 February 2021, using the keywords "lymphoma," "immunotherapy," and "pseudoprogression." Random-effects models were used to calculate both pooled incidence of pseudoprogression patients with lymphoma and an IR according to LYRIC criteria, while the Higgins inconsistency index (I2) test and Cochran's Q test were used for heterogeneity. Eight original articles were included, in which the number of patients ranged from 7 to 243. Among the lymphoma patients with ICIs, the pooled incidence of pseudoprogression was 10% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.06–0.17). There was no publication bias in Begg's test (p = 0.14). Three articles were analyzed to determine the pooled incidence of pseudoprogression in patients with IR according to LYRIC criteria in a subgroup analysis, which was shown to be 19% (95% CI: 0.08–0.40). A significant proportion (10%) of patients with lymphoma treated with ICIs showed pseudoprogression, and 19% of patients with an IR response showed pseudoprogression and a delayed response. Giuseppe Martini (1870-1944), attivo tra la nativa Lucca, la New York dei primi due decenni del XX secolo e la Lugano degli antifascisti italiani, fu uno dei maggiori librai antiquari a livello internazionale. Raffinato e coltissimo esperto di manoscritti medioevali, contribuì in modo essenziale alla costituzione delle grandi raccolte statunitensi dedicate al medioevo e all’umanesimo italiani; eccezionale studioso della stampa quattrocentesca, allestì una mirabile collezione di oltre quattrocento incunaboli che presentò al pubblico nel suo capolavoro, il Catalogo ... da servire come saggio per una nuova bibliografia di storia e letteratura italiana del 1934, per poi metterla in vendita in due aste organizzate da Hoepli nello stesso anno e nel successivo; appassionato cultore della memoria patria, per lascito testamentario arricchì la città natale di una eccezionale raccolta di manoscritti e antiche edizioni di argomento lucchese. La dozzina di relazioni (in italiano e in inglese) pubblicate negli atti del convegno organizzato a Lucca in sua memoria restituiscono oggi una delle figure più interessanti del commercio librario internazionale della prima metà del Novecento., The scenario of Italian antiquarian books, even in its highest expression, essentially lacks an organic history. The proceedings of the convention dedicated to Giuseppe Martini (1870-1944) help fill this lacuna. Martini was a collector and merchant of ancient manuscripts and books in his birthplace of Lucca, as well as early twentieth-century New York and, lastly, Lugano, which welcomed Italians fleeing from Fascism. The outcome is a very vivid cross-section of the Italian and international book culture of the era.
