The present study evaluates the feasibility of partially dealuminated natural mordenite as a catalyst support by studying improvement in its textural properties. This is the first study that reports the dealumination of natural zeolite-based tuffs from Ecuador. For this purpose, mordenite-rich tuffs were obtained from deposits close to Guayaquil, Ecuador. The raw material was micronized in order to increase its surface, and treated with NH 4 Cl. NH 4 + cation-exchanged samples were finally reacted with HCl (aq) to complete the dealumination process. The partially dealuminated samples were characterized using techniques such as XRD, FT-IR, SEM-EDS, and identification of their textural properties. Dealumination with HCl (aq) increased the Si/Al ratio up to 9 and kept the crystallographic structure of natural mordenite, as XRD results showed that the structure of mordenite was not altered after the dealumination process. On the other hand, textural properties such as surface area and microporosity were improved as compared to natural mordenite. In view of these results, the feasibility of using natural mordenite as a catalyst support is discussed in this study.

In the present work, resorting to linear response theory, we examine the plausibility of postulating Kohn-Sham (KS)-type equations which contain, by definition, an effective hybrid potential made up by some arbitrary mixture of local and non-local terms. In this way a general justification for the construction of hybrid functionals is provided without resorting to arguments based on the adiabatic connection, the generalized KS theory or the Levy's constrained search (or its variations). In particular, we examine the cases of single-hybrid functionals, derived from non-local exchange and of double-hybrid functionals, emerging from non-local second-order expressions obtained from the KS perturbation theory. We study the Shannon entropy and the Fisher information in a non-Born-Oppenheimer (nBO) regime, where these quantities are constructed from one-particle densities obtained from an exact nBO analytic wave function for a Coulomb-Hooke model of a four-particle system. This model consists of two electrons and two protons with Coulombic interactions between like particles and Hookean interactions otherwise [ Becerra , M. et al. Int. J. Quantum Chem 2013 , 113 ( 10 ), 1584 - 1590 ]. In the nBO case, there arise densities for both the nuclei and electrons. Furthermore, these densities vary with respect to a particular point of reference from which they are calculated. We consider, in the present work, electron and nuclear densities calculated from the following reference points: a global center of mass, the geometric center between the electrons, and the geometric center between the protons. A comparison of the nBO Shannon entropy and Fisher information, with respect to their counterparts computed from Born-Oppenheimer densities, suggests that the former quantities provide more insights into the chemical reactivity because of the nonuniqueness nature of the nBO electron density as well as the availability and access to the nBO nuclear density. Finally, some comments are made concerning the nBO vs the BO regimes in relation to this particular chemical reactivity indicator.

We consider the calculation of non-Born-Oppenheimer, nBO, one-particle densities for both electrons and nuclei. We show that the nBO one-particle densities evaluated in terms of translationally invariant coordinates are independent of the wavefunction describing the motion of center of mass of the whole system. We show that they depend, however, on an arbitrary reference point from which the positions of the vectors labeling the particles are determined. We examine the effect that this arbitrary choice has on the topology of the one-particle density by selecting the Hooke-Calogero model of a three-body system for which expressions for the one-particle densities can be readily obtained in analytic form. We extend this analysis to the one-particle densities obtained from full Coulomb interaction wavefunctions for three-body systems. We conclude, in view of the fact that there is a close link between the choice of the reference point and the topology of one-particle densities that the molecular structure inferred from the topology of these densities is not unique. We analyze the behavior of one-particle densities for the Hooke-Calogero Born-Oppenheimer, BO, wavefunction and show that topological transitions are also present in this case for a particular mass value of the light particles even though in the BO regime the nuclear masses are infinite. In this vein, we argue that the change in topology caused by variation of the mass ratio between light and heavy particles does not constitute a true indication in the nBO regime of the emergence of molecular structure.

We show that the exact non-Born-Oppenheimer Schrodinger equation for the Hookean diatomic molecule H2 (a two-proton, two-electron system where the electron-proton interaction is harmonic while the proton-proton and electron-electron interactions are Coulombic) can be decoupled into equations describing the relative motion of the electrons, the relative motion of nuclei, the motion of a collective mode representing a three-dimensional harmonic oscillator, and the motion of a free particle expressed as a linear combination of the individual center-of-mass coordinates of the nuclei and electrons. Analytic solutions to the relative motion of electrons can be readily obtained for the given values of the harmonic coupling constant. However, exact analytic solutions to the equation for the relative motion of the nuclei cannot be obtained simultaneously due to the fact that the harmonic constants in these two equations are coupled. For this reason, we present for the relative nuclear motion approximate analytic wave functions, one of them obtained variationally and the other by a series solution where the coefficients are determined recursively. We also explore a variational solution to the Taylor-series expansion of the nuclear interaction potential. Properties of the electronic and nuclear intracule densities are examined at different values of the coupling constant. An interesting result of the present non-Born-Oppenheimer treatment of this harmonic model is the fact that the relative nuclear motion occurs in a highly correlated regime. This leads in a natural way to a spatial localization of the nuclei akin to Wigner electronic crystallization.

We present analytic refinements and applications of the deformed atomic densities method [Fernández Rico, J.; López, R.; Ramírez, G. J Chem Phys 1999, 110, 4213-4220]. In this method the molecular electron density is partitioned into atomic contributions, using a minimal deformation criterion for every two-center distributions, and the atomic contributions are expanded in spherical harmonics times radial factors. Recurrence relations are introduced for the partition of the two-center distributions, and the final radial factors are expressed in terms of exponential functions multiplied by polynomials. Algorithms for the practical implementation are developed and tested, showing excellent performances. The usefulness of the present approach is illustrated by examining its ability to describe the deformation of atoms in different molecular environments and the relationship between these atomic densities and some chemical properties of molecules., (Copyright 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.)

A finite basis set particularly adapted for solving the Hartree-Fock equation for diatomic molecules in prolate spheroidal coordinates has been constructed. These basis functions have been devised as products of B-splines times associated Legendre polynomials. Due to the large number of B-splines, the resulting set of eigenfunctions is amply distributed over excited states. This gives the possibility of using these basis sets to calculate sums over excited states, appearing in various orders of perturbation theory. As an illustration, the second-order corrections to the ground-state energy of some atoms and diatomic molecules with closed electron shells have been calculated., (Copyright 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.)

A reinterpretation of the Boyd-Coulson [R. J. Boyd and C. A. Coulson, J. Phys. B 7, 1805 (1974)] definition of the Fermi hole is presented. Through this reinterpretation, which makes no reference to the hypothetical Hartree level, we are able to show the essentially identical character of the Boyd-Coulson definition with the one based on a conditional probability analysis. The basis-set dependence of the Fermi hole is emphasized and the effect of canonical, localized and delocalized Kohn-Sham and Hartree-Fock basis sets is examined for selected atoms and molecules., ((c) 2004 American Institute of Physics)
