Aims: The current study aimed to compare the anaerobic power output through the Wingate test in different positions, i.e., standing and seated, and identify the relationship between power-output and body mass. Methods: Eleven male competitive cyclists (age: 30.3 ± 4.7 years; body mass: 73.7 ± 7.7 kg; body fat: 11.3 ± 4.2%) were submitted to two sessions of the Wingate test (WT) in different positions, on different days. Results: The peak power (W), average power (W), relative peak power (W·kg-1), relative average power (W·kg-1), average cadence (rpm), and average velocity (km·h-1) presented significant differences in the standing position compared with the seated position (p < 0.05), 1155 ± 130 vs. 1082 ± 182 (W), 875 ± 96 vs. 818 ± 116 (W), 15.9 ± 1 vs. 15.0 ± 2 (W kg-1), 12.1 ± 1 vs. 11.3 ± 1 (W kg-1), 117.5 ± 7 vs. 109.8 ± 10 (rpm), 37.0 ± 2 vs. 34.6 ± 3 (km·h-1), respectively. However, when controlled the body mass, the differences in variables power output ceased to exist (p > 0.05). The fatigue and peak heart rate (bpm) indices did not present significant differences between the tests (p > 0.05). Conclusions: Sprint performance was improved when the WT was performed in a standing position in competitive cyclists. The study also reports the important relationship between body mass and anaerobic production capacity in the WT, emphasizing that it is desirable an increase in lean body mass and a reduction in fat mass, similar in competitions. We suggest that, for anaerobic assessment in cyclists, the standing position should be used during the WT, to determine the maximum power-output capacity.

Vitamin D deficiency is a common finding in our adult population, due to a combination of factors such as decreasedintake and absorption, limited exposure to sun light, time of year, latitude, skin pigmentation, medications, age, and the use ofsunscreens. The aim of this study was to investigate the benefits that vitamin D provides to the health of the population, throughthe analysis of current publications, such as: scientific articles, books, national and international thesis. Among the benefits thatcurrent studies point out, are the use of vitamin D as an adjunct to the health and well-being of the population, as well as: skin healing, bone health, systemic arterial hypertension, type I diabetes, cancer, multiple sclerosis, psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis,epilepsy in the elderly, vitiligo and also the immune modulatory effect guaranteeing the strengthening of the immune system.

For treatment, insulin therapy, proper diet and physical exercise are combined. In this study, the objective was to evaluate the bioceramic action associated to four weeks of a resistance physical exercise protocol in type 1 diabetics in variables of muscular performance and oxidative stress. Thirteen type 1 diabetic men initiated the study. They were randomly assigned to control group (GC) and bioceramic group (GB). Both performed the same four-week resistance exercise protocol, and the bioceramic group wore a T-shirt impregnated with bioceramic every night during the intervention period while the control group wore a placebo t-shirt. Anthropometric, neuromuscular performance and oxidative stress assessments were performed before and after intervention. Six participants finished the study. Anthropometric data showed slight post-intervention variations in both groups, GC n=3 and GB n=3, with an average increase in BMI. Hb1Ac had Δ% of 1.19 in GC and Δ% -2.41 in GB, with a reduction in the mean value of Hb1Ac in this group. Muscular performance evaluations demonstrated that both groups presented higher results after the intervention, with values of Δ% CMJ in GC 2.03 and Δ% CJM in GB 34,82; Δ% SJ in GC 7.11 and Δ% SJ in GB 21.10; Δ% 1RM squatting GC 11.73, and Δ% 1RM squatting GB 12.50; Δ% 1RM supine GC 11.17, and Δ% 1RM supine in GB 19,18. The oxidative stress evaluations had higher mean values of TBARS in the CG, with Δ% 129,67. GB had Δ% -1.48; carbonyl group had a reduction in mean values in both groups after the intervention. The SOD and CAT enzymes presented lower mean values after the intervention in the GC, with Δ% -45.77 for SOD and Δ% -27.93 for CAT. In GB, both enzymes had higher concentrations after the intervention, with Δ% of 65.44 for SOD and Δ% 43.11 for CAT. Muscular performance markers had a possible positive response to the proposed exercise protocol, with better Δ% results in GB. The main findings were related to oxidative stress, with reduction of mean values of TBARS, SOD and CAT in GB after the intervention. Individual variations were found in both groups. The study indicates a possible beneficial effect of using bioceramic t-shirts on markers of muscular performance and on oxidative stress. En la diabetes mellitus tipo 1 el estado de hiperglicemia crónica lleva al organismo al estrés oxidativo, y éste es el principal causante de las complicaciones derivadas de la enfermedad. Para el tratamiento, se combina insulinoterapia, dieta adecuada y ejercicio físico. En este estudio, el objetivo fue evaluar la acción de la biocerámica asociada a cuatro semanas de un protocolo de ejercicios físicos resistidos en diabéticos del tipo 1 en variables de desempeño muscular y de estrés oxidativo. Trece hombres diabéticos tipo 1 comenzaron el estudio. Se asignaron de forma aleatoria en grupo control y grupo biocerámica. Ambos realizaron el mismo protocolo de ejercicio físico resistido de cuatro semanas, y el grupo biocerámico usó una camiseta impregnada de biocerámica todas las noches durante el período de la intervención mientras el grupo control usó la camiseta de placebo. Las evaluaciones antropométricas, de rendimiento neuromuscular y de estrés oxidativo se realizaron pre y tras intervención. Seis participantes finalizaran el estudio. Los datos antropométricos presentaron pequeñas variaciones post-intervención en ambos grupos, GC n=3 e GB n=3, con un aumento promedio de IMC. La Hb1Ac presentó Δ% de 1,19 en el GC y Δ% -2,41 en el GB, habiendo una reducción en el valor medio de la Hb1Ac en este grupo. En las evaluaciones de desempeño muscular, ambos grupos presentaron resultados mayores después de la intervención, con valores de Δ% CMJ en el GC 2,03 y Δ% CJM en el GB 34,82; Δ% SJ en el GC 7,11 y Δ% SJ en el GB 21,10; Δ% 1RM agachado GC 11,73, y Δ% 1RM agachado GB 12,50; Δ% 1RM supino GC 11,17, y Δ% 1RM supino en el GB 19,18. Las evaluaciones del estrés oxidativo presentaron valores medios de TBARS mayores en el GC, con Δ% 129,67. El GB tuvo Δ% -1,48; carbonil tuvo una reducción en los valores medios en ambos grupos después de la intervención. Las enzimas SOD y CAT presentaron valores medios menores después de la intervención en el GC, con Δ% de -45,77 para la SOD y Δ% -27,93 para la CAT. En el GB, ambas enzimas presentaron concentraciones superadas después de la intervención, con Δ% de 65,44 para la SOD y Δ% 43,11 para la CAT. Los marcadores de rendimiento muscular tuvieron una respuesta positiva al protocolo de ejercicios propuesto, con resultados de Δ% mejores en el GB. Los principales hallazgos fueron relacionados con el estrés oxidativo, con reducción de los valores medios de TBARS, de SOD y de CAT en el GB después de la intervención. Las variaciones individuales en los análisis de las variables se encontraron en ambos grupos. El estudio indica un posible efecto benéfico del uso de la camiseta con biocerámica sobre marcadores de desempeño muscular y sobre el estrés oxidativo. No diabetes mellitus tipo 1, o estado de hiperglicemia crônica leva o organismo ao estresse oxidativo, sendo esse o principal causador das complicações decorrentes da doença. Para o tratamento, combina-se insulinoterapia, dieta adequada e exercício físico. Diante desses aspectos, neste estudo, o objetivo foi avaliar a ação da biocerâmica associada a quatro semanas de um protocolo de exercícios físicos resistidos em diabéticos do tipo 1 em variáveis de desempenho muscular e de estresse oxidativo. Os dados antropométricos apresentaram pequenas variações pós-intervenção em ambos os grupos, GC n=3 e GB n=3, com aumento da média do IMC. As avaliações do estresse oxidativo apresentaram valores médios de TBARS maiores no GC, com Δ% 129,67. O GB teve Δ% -1,48; carbonil teve redução nos valores médios em ambos os grupos após a intervenção. As enzimas SOD e CAT apresentaram valores médios menores após a intervenção no GC, com Δ% de -45,77 para a SOD e Δ% -27,93 para a CAT. No GB, ambas as enzimas apresentaram concentrações superiores após a intervenção, com Δ% de 65,44 para a SOD e Δ% 43,11 para a CAT. Marcadores de desempenho muscular tiveram possível resposta positiva ao protocolo de exercícios proposto, com resultados de Δ% melhores no GB. Os principais achados foram relacionados ao estresse oxidativo, com redução dos valores médios de TBARS, de SOD e de CAT no GB após a intervenção. Variações individuais nas análises das variáveis foram encontradas em ambos os grupos. O estudo indica um possível efeito benéfico do uso da camiseta com biocerâmica sobre marcadores de desempenho muscular e sobre o estresse oxidativo.
