Motivated by recent theoretical predictions about the existence of a $ B \bar{B}$ bound state (also denoted as $ X(10550) $), in this work we estimate the production of the $S$-wave $ B^+ B^-$ molecule via $\Upsilon (4S)$ radiative decays. In particular, we make use of effective Lagrangian approach and the compositeness condition to calculate the $ X(10550) $ production rate via $\Upsilon(4S)\rightarrow \gamma X(10550)$ decays employing triangle diagrams. Our results show that the partial decay width of this reaction is of the order of $0.5 - 192 \ \keV $ for a respective binding energy of $1 - 100 $ MeV, corresponding to a branching fraction of $ 10^{-5} - 10^{-3}$. These findings suggest that the existence of the $ X(10550) $ might be checked via the analysis of the mentioned decay in present and future experiments., Comment: 13 pages, 4 figures

The RSNA Abdominal Traumatic Injury CT (RATIC) dataset is the largest publicly available collection of adult abdominal CT studies annotated for traumatic injuries. This dataset includes 4,274 studies from 23 institutions across 14 countries. The dataset is freely available for non-commercial use via Kaggle at https://www.kaggle.com/competitions/rsna-2023-abdominal-trauma-detection. Created for the RSNA 2023 Abdominal Trauma Detection competition, the dataset encourages the development of advanced machine learning models for detecting abdominal injuries on CT scans. The dataset encompasses detection and classification of traumatic injuries across multiple organs, including the liver, spleen, kidneys, bowel, and mesentery. Annotations were created by expert radiologists from the American Society of Emergency Radiology (ASER) and Society of Abdominal Radiology (SAR). The dataset is annotated at multiple levels, including the presence of injuries in three solid organs with injury grading, image-level annotations for active extravasations and bowel injury, and voxelwise segmentations of each of the potentially injured organs. We present a coupled channel treatment of meson-meson dynamics, for systems with spin-parity $1^+$, and determine the corresponding amplitudes by solving the Bethe-Salpeter equations, which lead to the generation of two axial resonances when mesons are considered as the degrees of freedom in the model. One of them is narrow and has properties in good agreement with those of $D_1(2420)$. The other pole is wider, but its real and imaginary parts do not match well with the mass and width of $D_1(2430)$. The situation improves when a bare quark-model state is included, indicating that the dynamics at the quark level as well as among hadrons can describe the two states simultaneously. Further, we discuss that there exists a divergence in the value of the $D^*\pi$ scattering length determined through data coming from lattice QCD calculations and from heavy ion collisions. Such different values can be accommodated in the model by making small changes in the parameters while producing two poles having properties compatible with the two lightest $D_1$ states. With these results, we proceed to calculate the correlation function for the $D^{*+(0)}\pi^{0(+)}$ system for different sizes of the source. In this note we study the tensor and vector exchange contributions to the elastic reactions involving the pseudoscalars mesons $\pi^+ \pi^-$, $K^{+}K^{-}$ and $D^{+}D^{-}$. In the case of the tensor-exchange contributions we assume that an intermediate tensor $f_2(1270)$ is dynamically generated from the interaction of two virtual $\rho$ mesons, with the use of a pole approximation. The calculation of the two-loop amplitude is facilitated since the triangle loops can be factorized and computed separately. The results show very small contributions coming from the tensor-exchange mechanisms when compared with those from the vector-exchange processes. We compare our results for $\pi \pi$ and $K\bar{K}$ scattering with those obtained in other works where the $f_2(1270)$ is considered as an ordinary $q\bar{q}$ meson. Our picture provides a smaller contribution but of similar order of magnitude for pion scattering and stabilizes the results in the case of $K\bar{K}$, allowing us to make estimates for $D\bar{D}$ scattering., Comment: 12 pages; 6 figures; revised version with several improvements; a comparison with other works is made

We search for a $B$ decay mode where one can find a peak for a $D \bar{D}$ bound state predicted in effective theories and in Lattice QCD calculations, which has also been claimed from some reactions that show an accumulated strength in $D \bar{D}$ production at threshold. We find a good candidate in the $B^+\to K^+ \eta\eta$ reaction, by looking at the $\eta\eta$ mass distribution. The reaction proceeds via a first step in which one has the $B^+\to D_s^{*+} \bar{D}^0$ reaction followed by $D_s^{*+}$ decay to $D^0 K^+$ and a posterior fusion of $D^0 \bar{D}^0$ to $\eta \eta$, implemented trough a triangle diagram that allows the $D^0 \bar{D}^0$ to be virtual and produce the bound state. The choice of $\eta\eta$ to see the peak is based on results of calculations that find the $\eta\eta$ among the light pseudoscalar channels with stronger coupling to the $D \bar{D}$ bound state. We find a neat peak around the predicted mass of that state in the $\eta\eta$ mass distribution, with an integrated branching ratio for $B^+\to K^+$ ($D\bar{D}$, bound) ; ($D\bar{D}$, bound) $\to \eta \eta$ of the order of $1.5 \times 10^{-4}$, a large number for hadronic $B$ decays, which should motivate its experimental search.

In this work we study the role of the $f_0(980)$ and $a_0(980)$ resonances in the low $ K ^{+} K^{-} $ and $K^0 \bar K^0 $ invariant-mass region of the $B^- \to \pi ^- K^+ K^- $ and $B^- \to \pi ^- K^0 \bar K^0 $ reactions. The amplitudes are calculated by using the chiral unitary $\rm SU(3)$ formalism, in which these two resonances are dynamically generated from the unitary pseudocalar-pseudoscalar coupled-channel approach. The amplitudes are then used as input in the evaluation of the mass distributions with respect to the $ K^{+}K^{-} $ and $ K^{0}\bar K^{0} $ invariant-masses, where the contributions coming from the $I=0$ and $I=1$ components are explicitly assessed. Furthermore, the contribution of the $ K^{\ast }(892)^0 K^- $ production and its influence on the $ \pi^{-} K^+ $ and $ K^{+} K^- $ systems are also evaluated, showing that there is no significant strength for small $ K^{+} K^- $ invariant mass. Lastly, the final distributions of $ M_{\rm inv}^2( K^{\pm}K^{\mp} ) $ for the $B^{\mp} \to \pi ^{\mp} K^{\pm}K^{\mp} $ reactions are estimated and compared with the LHCb data. Our results indicate that the $I=0$ component tied to the $f_0(980)$ excitation generates the dominant contribution in the range of low $ K ^{+} K^{-} $ invariant-mass., Comment: 11 pages, 10 figures

We reassess the decay of the $J/\psi $ into an $\omega, \phi, K^{*0}$ and one of the $f_0(1370)$, $f_0(1710)$, $f_2(1270)$, $f'_2(1525)$, $K_0^*(1430)$ and $K_2^*(1430)$ resonances. We benefit from previous works that considered this reaction as a $J/\psi $ decay into three vector mesons, with a scalar or tensor resonance being formed from the interaction of two of these vectors. The novelty here with respect to former studies is the investigation of the relation between the scalar meson and tensor productions for the first time. To this end, the spin structure of the four vectors present in the production vertex is analyzed, and the $D$-wave mechanism in the tensor production is included. Then, beyond the ratios studied previously involving scalar states and tensor states independently, new ratios relating the scalar and tensor meson productions are estimated. Our results suggest that the $D$-wave mechanism of tensor production assumes a relevant contribution. New experimental data reporting the angular distributions of these processes will be important for checking this conclusion., Comment: 12 pages; 5 figures

We study the $J/\psi \to \phi K \bar K$ decay, looking for differences in the production rates of $K^+ K^-$ or $K^0 \bar K^0$ in the region of 1700-1800 MeV, where two resonances appear dynamically generated from the vector-vector interaction. Two resonances are known experimentally in that region, the $f_0(1710)$ and a new resonance reported by the BABAR and BESIII collaborations. The $K \bar K$ should be produced with $I=0$ in that reaction, but due to the different $K^{*0}$ and $K^{*+}$ masses some isospin violation appears. Yet, due to the large width of the $K^*$, the violation obtained is very small and the rates of $K^+ K^-$ or $K^0 \bar K^0$ production are equal within $5\%$. However, we also find that due to the step needed to convert two vectors into $K \bar K$, a shape can appear in the $K \bar K$ mass distribution that can mimic the $a_0$ production around the $K^* \bar K^*$ threshold, and is simply a threshold effect., Comment: 13 pages; 11 figures

A medical AI system's generalizability describes the continuity of its performance acquired from varying geographic, historical, and methodologic settings. Previous literature on this topic has mostly focused on "how" to achieve high generalizability with limited success. Instead, we aim to understand "when" the generalizability is achieved: Our study presents a medical AI system that could estimate its generalizability status for unseen data on-the-fly. We introduce a latent space mapping (LSM) approach utilizing Frechet distance loss to force the underlying training data distribution into a multivariate normal distribution. During the deployment, a given test data's LSM distribution is processed to detect its deviation from the forced distribution; hence, the AI system could predict its generalizability status for any previously unseen data set. If low model generalizability is detected, then the user is informed by a warning message. While the approach is applicable for most classification deep neural networks, we demonstrate its application to a brain metastases (BM) detector for T1-weighted contrast-enhanced (T1c) 3D MRI. The BM detection model was trained using 175 T1c studies acquired internally, and tested using (1) 42 internally and (2) 72 externally acquired exams from the publicly distributed Brain Mets dataset provided by the Stanford University School of Medicine. Generalizability scores, false positive (FP) rates, and sensitivities of the BM detector were computed for the test datasets. The model predicted its generalizability to be low for 31% of the testing data, where it produced (1) ~13.5 FPs at 76.1% BM detection sensitivity for the low and (2) ~10.5 FPs at 89.2% BM detection sensitivity for the high generalizability groups respectively. The results suggest that the proposed formulation enables a model to predict its generalizability for unseen data.

We investigate the combined finite-size and thermo-magnetic effects on the properties of the quark matter, in the context of the two-flavored Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. In particular, by using the mean-field approximation and the Schwinger proper time method in a toroidal topology with periodic or antiperiodic conditions, we evaluate the chiral phase transition, the constituent quark mass and the thermal and spatial susceptibilities under the change of the size, temperature and strength of external magnetic field. To take into account the inverse magnetic catalysis phenomenon, we make use of a recently proposed magnetized coupling constant. The findings suggest that the observables are strongly affected by the variation of the variables and also by the periodicity of the boundary conditions, with the final outcomes depending on the balance of these competing phenomena., Comment: 26 pages, 7 figures; revised version incorporating reviewer comments

We revisit the thermal production red and annihilation of magnetic monopoles and their relic abundance in order to gain a deeper physical interpretation on the monopole phenomenology predicted from the Baines et al. effective field theory, recently proposed in the description of monopole pair production via Drell-Yan and photon fusion processes. In this sense, we red use of the vacuum cross sections for the Drell-Yan reactions derived within the mentioned framework to evaluate the cross section averaged over the thermal distribution associated to other particles that constitute the hot medium where the monopoles propagate. In the considered range of monopole mass with spin-zero and spin-half, our findings suggest that the thermally averaged cross sections for the pair production are highly suppressed, while at higher temperatures those for the annihilation of lighter pairs reach larger magnitudes. Besides, we observe that smaller temperature leads to a rate of annihilation for scalar monopoles smaller than the one for fermionic monopoles, which might be interpreted as a theoretical evidence of a more pronounced stability for spin-0 and heavier monopoles.Then we input these thermally averaged cross sections into the kinetic equation that describes the evolution of the monopole abundance via an extension of a freeze-out theory. Our results infer that heavier monopoles achieve the equilibrium at earlier stages of the expansion, and consequently at higher temperatures. In addition, larger monopole masses produce higher values of the relic abundance. Besides, the results indicate that the abundance does not behave differently for spinless and spin-half relic monopoles., Comment: 9 pages, 10 figures

Motivated by the recently observation of the tetraquark $T_{cc}^+ $ state, in this work I revisit the Heavy-Meson Effective Theory to perform a simplified field-theoretical study of possible deuteron-like $D^{(\ast)} D ^{(\ast)}, \bar{B}^{(\ast)} \bar{B}^{(\ast)} $ and $D^{(\ast)} \bar{B}^{(\ast)} $ molecules. In particular, using the data from $T_{cc}^+ $ as input to fix the potential associated to the shallow-bound $ D D^{*} $ system with $I(J^P) = 1(1^+)$, the conditions for the formation of other loosely-bound states in the doubly charmed sector are analyzed. We study the evolution of the doubly charmed state $T_{cc}^+$ in a hot hadron gas produced in the late stage of heavy-ion collisions. We use effective Lagrangians to calculate the thermally averaged cross sections of $T_{cc}^+$ production in reactions such as $ D^{(*)} D^{(*)} \rightarrow T_{cc}^+ \pi, T_{cc}^+ \rho $ and its absorption in the corresponding inverse processes. We then solve the rate equation to follow the time evolution of the $T_{cc}^+$ multiplicity, and determine how it is affected by the considered reactions during the expansion of the hadronic matter. We compare the evolution of the $T_{cc}^+$ abundance treated as a hadronic $S$-wave molecule and as a tetraquark state. Our results show that the tetraquark yield increases by a factor of about 2 at freeze-out, but it is still one order of magnitude smaller than the final yield of molecules formed from hadron coalescence. Also, the results indicate that $N_{T_{cc}}$ is more affected by interactions with hadronic medium than $ N_{X(3872)} $ in similar conditions. Nucleus-nucleus collisions offer a great opportunity for analyzing and determining the intrinsic nature of heavy and exotic hadrons. In this sense, here we discuss how the production and dissociation of hadron states are affected by reactions during the expansion of hadronic matter in a heavy-ion collision environment. The detection of brain metastases (BM) in their early stages could have a positive impact on the outcome of cancer patients. We previously developed a framework for detecting small BM (with diameters of less than 15mm) in T1-weighted Contrast-Enhanced 3D Magnetic Resonance images (T1c) to assist medical experts in this time-sensitive and high-stakes task. The framework utilizes a dedicated convolutional neural network (CNN) trained using labeled T1c data, where the ground truth BM segmentations were provided by a radiologist. This study aims to advance the framework with a noisy student-based self-training strategy to make use of a large corpus of unlabeled T1c data (i.e., data without BM segmentations or detections). Accordingly, the work (1) describes the student and teacher CNN architectures, (2) presents data and model noising mechanisms, and (3) introduces a novel pseudo-labeling strategy factoring in the learned BM detection sensitivity of the framework. Finally, it describes a semi-supervised learning strategy utilizing these components. We performed the validation using 217 labeled and 1247 unlabeled T1c exams via 2-fold cross-validation. The framework utilizing only the labeled exams produced 9.23 false positives for 90% BM detection sensitivity; whereas, the framework using the introduced learning strategy led to ~9% reduction in false detections (i.e., 8.44) for the same sensitivity level. Furthermore, while experiments utilizing 75% and 50% of the labeled datasets resulted in algorithm performance degradation (12.19 and 13.89 false positives respectively), the impact was less pronounced with the noisy student-based training strategy (10.79 and 12.37 false positives respectively).

A constellation of quarkonium-mass peaks has been reported in the last decade, opening what could be an entire new spectroscopy of nuclear-physics like complexity. Salient among these structures are the $Z_c$, much analyzed at BESIII as nicely summarised by J.~Zhao at this conference. Their stature as new hadron states has often been challenged by proposals that the peaks arise from triangle singularities instead, because they appear in three-body reactions and often satisfy the special kinematic conditions of the Coleman-Norton theorem. To experimentally decide, we should like to resort to different reactions erasing the kinematic coincidence, and see whether each peak survives. We observe that the most universal "eraser" is the medium created in Heavy Ion Collisions, because its high temperature often affects the masses and widths of the particles participating in the reaction: if additionally the triangle reaction is completed during the lifetime of the fireball, our computations in thermal field theory show that the triangle singularities do not survive the hot hadron phase (much less the hotter quark-gluon plasma). On the contrary, ordinary quarkonia are affected but often survive the fireball and molecular-like states are also routinely detected. We have provided several examples, and here investigate the exotic $Z_{c}(4020)^\pm\to \pi^{\pm} h_c $ peak (produced against a $\pi^\mp$ in $e^+e^-$ collisions). If, as has been proposed during the debates, it is produced or enhanced by a $D_{1} D^{*} D^*$ triangle loop, the estimate here reported suggests its disappearance near the critical temperature of the confinement/deconfinement phase transition, so any future detection in heavy-ion collision data would suggest it to be a real hadron, with its absence leaning towards the singularity interpretation., Comment: 4 Pages; 2 Figures; Contribution to Proceedings of the Particles and Nuclei International Conference (PANIC2021)

Triangle and other kinematic singularities are very sensitive to the precise masses and widths of the intervening particles. Therefore, the effect that the heavy-ion collision medium can have on those masses and widths, as captured by finite-temperature field theory and reported in the literature, may erase the singularity from the spectrum if the effect is large enough and the loop completes before the hot gas freezes out. A very timely example is provided by the $Z_{cs}(3985)$ structure recently reported by BES-III in a $(D_s^-D^{*0}+D_s^{*-}D^0)$ spectrum recoiling against a $K^+$. If a new hadron, this would be a clear exotic $c\bar{c}s\bar{u}$ tetraquark candidate, the first of a charmonium-like family with strangeness: to accept this, alternative explanations first need to be tested and discarded. As shown in figure 1, the mass spectrum recoiling against the kaon is near the $m_{D_s^{*-}}+m_{D^0}$ threshold, whereas the production cross-section seems to peak around that for $\sqrt{s(e^-e^+)}=m_{D_{s2}^{*+}} +m_{D_s^{*-}} $. Therefore, this structure may well be caused by a triangle with the three charmed mesons $D_{s2}^{*+} / D_s^{*-} / D^0$ running in the loop, with the amplitude enhanced at the two thresholds. If so, the structure would be erased from the spectrum in Heavy Ion Collisions, whereas a hadron would continue to exist although with a mass decreased by a few percent as computed by other authors., Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure files, contribution to Proceedings of the EPS-HEP Conference 2021

In this work we investigate the combined finite-size and thermomagnetic effects on the properties of neutral mesons in a hot medium, in the context of the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. In particular, by using the mean-field approximation and the Schwinger proper time method in a toroidal topology with antiperiodic conditions, we evaluate the chiral phase transition, the constituent quark mass and meson observables like the $\pi ^0$ and $\sigma$ meson masses and pion decay constant under the change of the size, temperature, chemical potential and strength of external magnetic field. The results indicate that the observables are strongly affected by the conjoint effects of relevant variables, and the net result will depend on the balance of these competing phenomena., Comment: 15 pages; 18 figures. We have recently observed that hadron triangle singularities, that can mock new exotic hadrons, can be significanttly suppressed in relativistic heavy ion collisions, provided two conditions are met: these are, first, that the fireball lives long enough so that the triangle process has enough time to complete in the Norton-Coleman classical sense, and second, that the mass and/or width of the particles in the triangle diagram are sufficiently modified from their vacuum values. Here we add a very interesting example to the canon, which is $Y(4260) \to D_1 D \to \pi D^* D \to \pi + J/\psi \pi$. This reaction has been proposed as a mechanism to explain the appearance of $Z_c(3900)$ in the $J/\psi \pi$ spectrum. If the two muons and two pions reconstructing the initial-state $Y$ can be isolated from the combinatorial background, then the mechanism can provide a spectroscopy test: presence of $Y(4260)$ but absence of $Z_c(3900)$ would be more indicative of such triangle mechanism, while presence of both would rather point out to $Z_c$ being an exotic hadron., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures. The BraTS 2021 challenge celebrates its 10th anniversary and is jointly organized by the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), the American Society of Neuroradiology (ASNR), and the Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Interventions (MICCAI) society. Since its inception, BraTS has been focusing on being a common benchmarking venue for brain glioma segmentation algorithms, with well-curated multi-institutional multi-parametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) data. Gliomas are the most common primary malignancies of the central nervous system, with varying degrees of aggressiveness and prognosis. The RSNA-ASNR-MICCAI BraTS 2021 challenge targets the evaluation of computational algorithms assessing the same tumor compartmentalization, as well as the underlying tumor's molecular characterization, in pre-operative baseline mpMRI data from 2,040 patients. Specifically, the two tasks that BraTS 2021 focuses on are: a) the segmentation of the histologically distinct brain tumor sub-regions, and b) the classification of the tumor's O[6]-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) promoter methylation status. The performance evaluation of all participating algorithms in BraTS 2021 will be conducted through the Sage Bionetworks Synapse platform (Task 1) and Kaggle (Task 2), concluding in distributing to the top ranked participants monetary awards of $60,000 collectively., Comment: 19 pages, 2 figures, 1 table

Early detection of brain metastases (BM) is one of the determining factors for the successful treatment of patients with cancer; however, the accurate detection of small BM lesions (< 15mm) remains a challenging task. We previously described a framework for the detection of small BM in single-sequence gadolinium-enhanced T1-weighted 3D MRI datasets. It combined classical image processing (IP) with a dedicated convolutional neural network, taking approximately 30 seconds to process each dataset due to computation-intensive IP stages. To overcome the speed limitation, this study aims to reformulate the framework via an augmented pair of CNNs (eliminating the IP) to reduce the processing times while preserving the BM detection performance. Our previous implementation of the BM detection algorithm utilized Laplacian of Gaussians (LoG) for the candidate selection portion of the solution. In this study, we introduce a novel BM candidate detection CNN (cdCNN) to replace this classical IP stage. The network is formulated to have (1) a similar receptive field as the LoG method, and (2) a bias for the detection of BM lesion loci. The proposed CNN is later augmented with a classification CNN to perform the BM detection task. The cdCNN achieved 97.4% BM detection sensitivity when producing 60K candidates per 3D MRI dataset, while the LoG achieved 96.5% detection sensitivity with 73K candidates. The augmented BM detection framework generated on average 9.20 false-positive BM detections per patient for 90% sensitivity, which is comparable with our previous results. However, it processes each 3D data in 1.9 seconds, presenting a 93.5% reduction in the computation time.
