Overactive bladder (OAB) is a group of clinical symptoms that are highly bothersome to the life and spirit of patients. However, little is known about the role of ubiquitous di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) exposure in the disorder. Hence, the study was conducted. The data were collected using the 2003-2008 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) data (n = 2121), and multiple logistic regression was adapted. The concentrations of DEHP (∑DEHP) were calculated for each metabolite and split into quartiles for analysis. After adjusting for confounding factors, ∑DEHP was associated with increased odds of OAB for the highest quartile (OR = 1.15, 95% CI [1.06, 1.25], p0.05), and the highest quartile of metabolites showed similar results, such as mono-(2-ethyl-5-hydroxyhexyl) phthalate (OR = 1.09, 95% CI [1.01, 1.19], p0.05), mono-(2-ethyl-5-oxohexyl) phthalate (OR = 1.21, 95% CI [1.11, 1.32], p0.05) and mono-(2-ethyl-5-carboxypentyl) phthalate (OR = 1.22, 95% CI [1.12, 1.33], p0.05). The association remained when the analyses were stratified by age and sex. Our study adds evidence for understanding the potential role of environmental factors in OAB, and further research is needed to determine whether the status of OAB can be changed by controlling DEHP exposure.

Increasing evidences indicate that the controlling nutritional status (CONUT) score is associated with cancer prognosis. This study was conducted to investigate the prognostic significance of pretreatment CONUT score on patients with various malignant tumors. The correlation between CONUT score and clinical outcomes of tumor patients were studied by electronic literature retrieval. Pooled hazard ratios (HR), odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) were calculated to clarify the conclusion. Subgroup analysis were conducted in line with cancer type, cancer stage, treatment, sample size and cut-off value. A total of 62 studies involving 25224 patients were included in this study. Pooled analysis showed that higher CONUT scores were associated with shorter overall survival (HR 1.62, 95% CI 1.45-1.79

The aim of this study was to evaluate the benefits and safety of transperitoneal and retroperitoneal pyeloplasty for ureteropelvic junction obstruction by a meta-analysis. We searched the databases including PubMed, Cochrane Library and Embase database from their inception to December 1st, 2020. Relevant literatures comparing retroperitoneal pyeloplasty with transperitoneal pyeloplasty were identified. A meta-analysis was conducted with Revman 5.3. The main outcomes included success rate, operative time, hospital stay, conversion rate of open surgery, overall complications, and detailed postoperative complications/indicators. 15 studies with 1881 patients were included. The results revealed that there were no significant differences between two approaches in success rate [OR = 1.51, 95%CI (0.94, 2.41), p = 0.09], hospital stay [MD = 0.21, 95%CI (−0.12, 0.54), p = 0.21] and overall complications [OR = 1.07, 95%CI (0.76, 1.50), p = 0.69]. Background: Increasing evidence indicates that obesity is a risk factor for various tumors. We aimed to clarify the evidence for association between body mass index (BMI) and cancer risk based on existing systematic review and meta-analyses.Methods: PubMed, Embase and Web of science were systematically searched to obtain systematic review and meta-analyses reporting association between BMI and cancer incidence. The methodological quality and strength of evidence of each meta-analysis were assessed by AMSTAR and GRADE respectively. We also assessed the heterogeneity and publication bias of all included meta-analyses.Results: Finally, 43 meta-analyses with 19 cancers were identified by this umbrella review. The result revealed that underweight was inversely associated with the incidence of brain tumors while was positively related to the risk of esophageal and lung cancer. Overweight would enhance the incidence of brain tumors, kidney cancer, endometrial cancer, ovarian cancer, multiple myeloma, bladder cancer and liver cancer. Obesity was related to the increased incidence of brain tumors, cervical cancer, kidney cancer, endometrial cancer, esophageal cancer, gastric cancer, ovarian cancer, multiple myeloma, gallbladder cancer, bladder cancer, colorectal cancer, liver cancer, thyroid cancer and Hodgkin’s lymphoma. What’s more, dose-response analysis was conducted by 10 studies and the results demonstrated that per 5Kg/m2 increment of BMI was associated with 1.01 to 1.13 fold increased risk of general brain tumors, multiple myeloma, bladder cancer, pancreatic cancer, breast cancer, Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. And every 1Kg/m2 increment of BMI was linked to 6% and 4% increment in the risk of kidney cancer and gallbladder cancer respectively.Conclusions: The evidence presented in this umbrella review showed that overweight and obesity were associated with increased risk of most cancers. We recommend that it is better to maintain BMI within the normal range to prevent the occurrence of tumors. However, prospective studies with high quality are needed to further investigate the association between BMI and various cancer risk.

Purpose To systematically assess the perioperative outcomes of retroperitoneal (RP) and transperitoneal (TP) approaches in robot‐assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN), we conducted an updated meta‐analysis. Methods A literature retrieval of multi‐database including PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, and CNKI was performed to identify eligible comparative studies from the inception dates to January 2021. Perioperative outcomes included operative time (OT), estimated blood loss (EBL), warm ischemia time (WIT), postoperative length of stay (PLOS), positive surgical margin (PSM), and complications (major complications and overall complications). Outcomes of data were pooled and analyzed with Review Manager 5.4.1. Results Twenty‐one studies involving a total of 2482 RP and 3423 TP approach RAPN patients met the inclusion criteria. This study evaluated the survival outcomes of young (50 years) and elderly patients (80 years) with high-risk prostate cancer (PCa) postradical local treatments.We identified50 and80-year-old patients with high-risk PCa between 2004 and 2015 in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database. The patients aged 65 and 66 years were also identified as the control group. The propensity-score matching method was adopted to compare the young and elderly patients with the control group. Kaplan-Meier analysis and Cox regression were conducted to evaluate the PCa-specific survival (PCSS) and overall survival.A total of 17726 patients were identified, and 3355 were under 50 years old, whereas 4798 of them were80 years old. The young patient group (50 years) had similar PCSS with the control group (65-66 years) in both the overall cohort (hazard ratio [HR]: 0.88, 95% confidence interval [CI] [0.73-1.06], P = 0.132) and matched cohort (HR: 0.96, 95% CI [0.74-1.24], P = 0.527). Young patients with both high-risk and very high-risk PCa after radical prostatectomy (RP) treatment had apparent longer mean cancer-specific survival time than those after external-beam radiotherapy (EBRT) and/or brachytherapy (BT) treatment (high-risk group: 153.38 ± 0.82 months vs. 149.72 ± 3.03 months; very high-risk group: 148.3 ± 1.84 months vs. 139.33 ± 3.25 months). For the elderly patients (80 years), the PCSS outcomes were significantly worse than the control group (65-66 years) in both overall cohort (HR: 2.69, 95% CI [2.31-3.13], P0.001) and matched cohort (HR: 1.61, 95% CI [1.34-1.94], P0.001). Patients receiving RP treatment had similar PCSS outcomes with those receiving EBRT and/or BT in the high-risk PCa group (139.45 ± 9.98 months vs. 139.41 ± 1.84 months), and better PCSS in very high-risk PCa group (132.73 ± 13.56 months vs. 128.82 ± 3.43 months).The PCSS outcomes of young PCa patients (0 years) were identical to those of the control group (65-66 years). RP had similar or better PCSS benefits than EBRT and/or BT in both young (50 years) and elderly patients (80 years).

Male erectile dysfunction (ED) caused by cavernous nerve injury is a common complication of pelvic surgery, radiotherapy, transurethral surgery or other operations. However, clinical treatment for iatrogenic or traumatic male ED is difficult and not satisfactory. Many studies have shown that curcumin can promote the repair and regeneration of peripheral nerves; however, whether curcumin can rescue cavernous nerve injury is unknown, and the poor bioavailability of curcumin limits its application in vivo. Hence, the study was conducted. A curved slow-release membrane was produced, and the properties were examined. In addition, the effects of the curcumin slow-release membrane on cavernous nerve-injured SD rats were studied. We found that polylactic acid-glycolic acid-polyethylene glycol (PLGA-PEG) can be used as a good carrier material for curcumin, and curcumin-loaded PLGA-PEG membranes can effectively rescue the cavernous nerve in SD rats, restore the continuity of the cavernous nerve, and increase the expression of nNOS mRNA and proteins in penile tissue, which can improve the penile erectile function of injured SD rats, reduce the degree of penile tissue fibrosis, and effectively promote penis rehabilitation. The curcumin slow-release membrane is proposed to be a new therapeutic approach for penile rehabilitation of cavernous nerve injury.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the prognosis of patients with metastatic prostate cancer (mPCa) in different age groups. Methods: Patients with mPCa from 2004 to 2016 in the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) database were identified. Seven groups were divided according to the age at diagnosis, including ≤55 years, 56-60 years, 61-65 years, 66-70 years, 71-75 years, 76-80 years and >80 years. Fine and Gray's competing risks model and Kaplan-Meier analysis were conducted to evaluate the cancer-specific survival (CSS). Results: A total of 36231 patients with mPCa were included. The CSS curves of the overall cohort showed that patients aged ≤55 years had significantly worse CSS than patients in age groups of 56-60 [HR:0.93 (0.87~1.00), p=0.039], 61-65 [HR:0.91 (0.85~0.97), p=0.003] and 66-70 [HR:0.90 (0.84~0.96), p=0.001]. After removing patients dead for other reasons, the differences of CSS curves between ≤55 years group and 56-70 years groups were not significant. However, the mean survival time of ≤55 years group (55.78±2.48 months) was still shorter than 56-60 years (57.28±2.35 months), 61-65 years (57.64±2.07 months), and 66-70 years (57.11±2.11 months). When stratified by M stages, similar results were found in M1a, M1b and M1c stage groups. According to Fine-Gray competing risks models, patient ≤55 years featured significantly higher sub-distribution hazard ratio (sdHR) than 61-65 years group [sdHR: 0.94(0.88~1.00); p=0.046]. Conclusions: The mPCa patients ≤55 years seemed to be associated with worse prognosis in comparison with patients aging 56-70 years.

Di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate is representative of Phthalate esters (PAEs), which is one of the most widely used plasticizer and known to act as a reproductive toxicant. However, little is known about the toxicity and pathological process of DEHP exposure in male reproductive system in terms of different concentrations and time points. In this study, peripubertal male Sprague Dawley rats were continually exposed to different DEHP doses (100 mg/kg, 500 mg/kg, and 900 mg/kg) and periods (7 days, 14 days, 21 days, 28 days, and 35 days) during critical periods for sexual maturity. The reproductive parameters have been investigated, including testicular morphology, serum testosterone level, and testicular P450scc, 3β-HSD, and PCYP17 levels. We observed disarrangement of testicular spermatogenic epithelium coupled with decrease of serum testosterone, testicular P450scc, 3β-HSD, and PCYP17 levels, and these changes were more obvious with increase of both the exposure time and dosage. Then trend of the time-dose response to DEHP exposure and the pathological process in germ cells were estimated. The results of this study suggested that DEHP exposure could affect the male reproductive system and the degree of adverse effect depended on the dose and extent of exposure.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the survival outcomes of different prostate-specific antigens (PSA) levels in men with high-grade prostate cancer.From 2004 to 2015 in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database, men diagnosed with clinically localized prostate cancer and a Gleason score (GS) 8-10 were identified. Patients were divided into the PSA levels4.0 ng/ml, 4.0-10.0 ng/ml, 10.1-20.0 ng/ml, and20.0 ng/ml groups. Multivariable Cox regressions and Kaplan-Meier analysis were adopted to analyze the prostate cancer-specific survival (PCSS).59,336 men with a median age of 70 (63-76) years with a GS 8-10 were included. The PCSS of patients with a PSA4.0 ng/ml was significantly worse than that of patients with a PSA 4.0-10.0 ng/ml [hazard ratio (HR): 1.43 (1.28-1.58)], but was better than that of patients with a PSA 10.1-20.0 ng/ml [HR: 1.18 (1.06-1.31)]. After stratifying patients by GS, the differences between patients with a PSA4.0 ng/ml and a PSA 4.0-10.0 ng/ml were only significant in those with a GS 9 and 10 [GS 9 HR: 1.49 (1.28-1.72); GS 10 HR: 1.42 (1.12-1.8)], but not in those with a GS 8 [HR: 1.04 (0.95-1.14)]. Moreover, the PCSS of patients with a PSA4.0 ng/ml and a PSA 10.0-20.0 ng/ml were similar in patients with GS 9 and 10 diseases [GS 9: HR: 1.06 (0.91-1.23); GS 10: HR: 1.13 (0.89-1.44)].Patients with a PSA4.0 ng/ml had poorer PCSS than patients with a PSA 4.0-10.0 ng/ml. Similar PCSS was found in patients whose PSA levels were 10.1-20.0 ng/ml in patients with GS 9-10 prostate cancer.

Objective: To evaluate the prostate cancer-specific survival (PCSS) of low T stages or low prostate-specific antigens (PSA) levels in men with high-grade prostate cancer. Materials and Methods: Patients with non-metastatic prostate cancer (T1-4N0M0) and Gleason score 8-10 in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database from 2004-2010 were identified. These men were stratified by T stages (T1, T2, T3a, T3b-4) and PSA levels (20.0 ng/ml). Propensity-score matching (PSM) was conducted to balance the covariates. Kaplan-Meier analysis and multivariable Cox regressions were performed to analyze the PCSS in different T stage or PSA levels groups. Results: A total of 33231 patients aging 69(62~76) years were identified. The overall cohort results showed that the PCSS of T1 group was significantly worse than that of T2 and T3a groups [T2 HR: 0.62(0.57~0.67); T3 HR: 0.70(0.63~0.77)]. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the survival outcomes of patients with bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) and metastatic prostate cancer (mPCa) after having a palliative transurethral resection of the prostate (pTURP) surgery.Methods: We identified patients with mPCa between 2004 and 2016 in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. Patients who received pTURP and non-surgical therapy were identified. A propensity-score matching was introduced to balance the covariate. Kaplan–Meier analysis and COX regression were conducted to evaluate the overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) outcomes.Results: A total of 36,003 patients were identified; 2,823 of them were in the pTURP group and 33,180 were in the non-surgical group. The survival curves of the overall cohort showed that the pTURP group was associated with worse outcomes in both OS (HR: 1.12, 95% CI: 1.07–1.18, p < 0.001) and CSS (HR: 1.08, 95% CI: 1.02–1.15, p = 0.004) compared with the non-surgical group. The mean survival time in the overall cohort of the pTURP group was shorter than the non-surgical group in both OS [35.13 ± 1.53 vs. 40.44 ± 0.59 months] and CSS [48.8 ± 1.27 vs. 55.92 ± 0.43 months]. In the matched cohort, the pTURP group had significantly lower survival curves for both OS (HR: 1.25, 95% CI: 1.16–1.35, p < 0.001) and CSS (HR: 1.23, 95% CI: 1.12–1.35, p < 0.001) than the non-surgical group. pTURP significantly reduced the survival months of the patients (36.49 ± 0.94 vs. 45.52 ± 1.23 months in OS and 50.1 ± 1.49 vs. 61.28 ± 1.74 months in CSS). In the multivariate COX analysis, pTURP increased the risk of overall mortality (HR: 1.19, 95% CI: 1.09–1.31, p < 0.001) and cancer-specific mortality CSS (HR: 1.23, 95% CI: 1.14–1.33, p < 0.001) compared with the non-surgical group.Conclusions: For mPCa patients with BOO, pTURP could reduce OS and CSS while relieving the obstruction.

In recent years, the controlling nutritional status (CONUT) score has increasingly became an effective indicator associated with tumor prognosis. This study was conducted to synthesise data on the prognostic value of CONUT score on patients with upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) or renal cell carcinoma (RCC) undergoing nephrectomy. We designed and performed a systematic analysis of studies that verified the correlation between preoperative CONUT score and prognosis for UTUC and RCC using PubMed, Web of Science and Embase. The conclusion was clarified by pooled hazard ratios (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI). Subgroup analysis were further conducted in accordance with different primary tumor. Six studies involving 3529 patients were included in this evidence synthesis, which revealed that the CONUT score had a potential role to predict the survival of UTUC and RCC patients accepting surgery. Pooled analysis showed that the overall survival (OS, HR 2·32, p < 0·0001), cancer-specific survival (CSS, HR 2·68, p < 0·0001) and disease-free survival (DFS, HR 1·62, p < 0·00001) were inferior in the high CONUT score group when compared with low score group. Subgroup analysis revealed that this result was in line with UTUC (OS: HR 1·86, p = 0·02; CSS: HR 2·24, p = 0·01; DFS: HR 1·54, p < 0·00001) and RCC (OS: HR 3·05, p < 0·00001; CSS: HR 3·47, p < 0·00001; DFS: HR 2·21, p = 0·0005) patients respectively. Consequently, the CONUT score is a valuable preoperative index to predict the survival of patients with UTUC or RCC undergoing nephrectomy.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the survival outcomes of radical prostatectomy (RP), external beam radiotherapy plus brachytherapy (EBRT + BT), and EBRT alone among elderly men (aged 70 years and above) with very high-risk (VHR) prostate cancer (PCa). Methods: We identified elderly men diagnosed with VHR PCa between 2004 and 2015 in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database. The propensity score-matching method was adopted to balance the covariates and generate new cohorts. ­Kaplan-Meier and Cox analyses were conducted to build up survival curves and evaluate the overall survival (OS) and PCa-specific survival (PCSS) outcomes. Results: A total of 9,818 patients were identified. Of them, 5,839 were in the EBRT group, 725 in the EBRT + BT group, and 3,254 in the RP group. The survival curves of the overall cohort showed that RP was associated with the best OS, followed by EBRT + BT and EBRT (p < 0.001). As for the PCSS, RP shared similar outcomes with EBRT + BT (hazard ratio [HR]: 1.25 [0.93–1.69], p = 0.175). EBRT was associated with significantly worse PCSS than both RP (HR: 1.88, 95% confidence interval [95% CI] [1.64–2.15], p < 0.001) and EBRT + BT (HR: 1.48, 95% CI [1.19–1.85], p = 0.002). In the matched cohorts, RP presented better OS (HR: 1.41, 95% CI [1.07–1.86], p = 0.041) and similar PCSS with EBRT + BT (HR: 1.50, 95% CI [0.91–2.47], p = 0.12). RP was associated with significantly better OS and PCSS outcomes than EBRT alone (OS HR: 1.58, 95% CI [1.59–2.12], p < 0.001; PCSS HR: 2.08 [1.60–2.72], p < 0.001). EBRT + BT also had significantly better OS and PCSS outcomes than EBRT alone (OS HR: 1.33, 95% CI [1.11–1.60], p < 0.001; PCSS HR: 1.57 [1.13–2.19], p = 0.003). Conclusions: For patients above 70 years with VHR PCa, RP was associated with better OS and similar PCSS than EBRT + BT. Both RP and EBRT + BT have better OS and PCSS than EBRT alone.

ObjectiveDiffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common histopathological type of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which may arise from various extranodal sites. Little is known about the clinical characteristics and survival outcomes of primary DLBCL of the urinary tract (UT). Thus, we conducted this study to explore the independent prognostic factors of patients with UT-DLBCL using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database.Materials and MethodsWe searched the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database for the data of patients diagnosed with UT-DLBCL between 1975 and 2016. Data, including demographic tumour stage and therapeutic strategies, such as surgical resection, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy, were collected. The impact of these factors on survival outcomes, including overall survival (OS) and disease-specific survival (DSS), was analysed using Kaplan–Meier curves.ResultsFour-hundred and eighty-nine patients who met the inclusion criteria were enrolled in the data analysis. The median age was 69 years old. Most cases of UT-DLBCL (72.39%) originated from the kidney, followed by the urinary bladder (24.95%). Both surgical resection and chemotherapy can significantly improve OS and DSS. Patients older than 75 years had the worst survival outcomes. Stage IV DLBCL may be a poor prognostic factor.ConclusionTo the best of our knowledge, this is the largest population-based study of UT-DLBCL. Advanced age, male gender, lack of surgical resection or chemotherapy, and stage IV DLBCL were poor prognostic factors.

Background Persistent or recurrent haemospermia often occurs in individuals with ejaculatory duct obstruction (EDO). This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of transurethral resection of the ejaculatory duct (TURED) combined with seminal vesiculoscopy in treating persistent or recurrent haemospermia in men with EDO. Methods From June 2014 to March 2018, 103 consecutive patients with EDO who underwent TURED combined with seminal vesiculoscopy for persistent or recurrent haemospermia at the Department of Urology of West China Hospital were enrolled into this retrospective study. The patients were evaluated mainly by detailed history-taking and performing semen analysis, transrectal ultrasonography, and magnetic resonance imaging. Results Among the 103 patients, 79 (76.70%) had cysts of the lower male genitourinary tract; 63 (61.17%) had blood clots; and 32 (31.07%) had calculi in the seminal vesicle and/or prostatic utricle. The duration of postoperative follow-up was 12 months, and the symptoms of haemospermia disappeared in 96 (93.20%) patients. There was no significant difference in the semen PH and sperm count before and after surgery; however, the ejaculate volume and sperm motility significantly improved postoperatively. Except for two cases of acute urinary retention and one case of watery ejaculate after surgery, no severe postoperative complications, including epididymitis, urethral stricture, urinary incontinence, retrograde ejaculation, or rectal injury, were observed. Conclusion TURED combined with seminal vesiculoscopy is a suitable method for the diagnosis and treatment of persistent or recurrent haemospermia in men with EDO.

Objective To explore the exome and transcriptome characteristics potentially underlying the pathogenesis of varicocele (VE). Design Experimental study and cohort study. Setting Academic research laboratory and university-affiliated hospital. Patient(s) Eleven VE patients whose fathers also had VE, plus 151 additional patients and 324 healthy men for variants genotyping; for the rat model, eight Sprague–Dawley male rats. Intervention(s) Partial ligation of renal vein was conducted to establish VE rat models for whole-transcriptome RNA sequencing (RNA-seq). Main Outcome Measure(s) Genes with differential expression and/or harboring potential pathogenic variants detected via RNA-seq and whole-exome sequencing (WES) then subjected to population-based survey to define candidate genes of VE and analyzed via Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes to identify VE-involved pathways. Result(s) Whole-transcriptome RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) was performed using left spermatic veins of five rat VE models and three controls. We identified 9,688 genes and 18 pathways via RNA-seq, and via WES 160 genes harboring 279 potential deleterious variants and 16 pathways. Nine genes (AAMP, KMT2D, IRS2, SPINT1, IFT122, MKI67, DCHS1, LAMA2, and CBL) had variants in more than one patient who underwent WES, and six of these genes (AAMP, SPINT1, MKI67, IFT122, LAMA2, and DCHS1) showed differential expression. The population-based survey showed that AAMP, SPINT1, and MKI67 were strongly associated with VE risk. Together, two omic 67 data sets revealed four pathways potentially related to VE. Conclusion(s) For the first time, we have described the exome and transcriptome characteristics of VE. The bi-omics identified novel candidate genes and pathways involving the occurrence and development of VE.

As one of the most important members of Phthalate esters (PAEs), di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) is widely used in plastics and known as a male reproductive toxicant. Many studies have shown that soybean isoflavones (SI) can rescue the testicular injury caused by DEHP, but the underlying mechanism is unknown. Because methylation is one of the most important mechanisms for maintaining normal biological functions, we studied whether methylation is involved in testicular injury induced by DEHP and whether SI could counter testicular impairment in peripubertal male Sprague Dawley rats. Compared with the control group, we found that the mRNA levels of testicular Sod2, Gpx1, and Igf-1 significantly decreased in the 900 mg/kg DEHP group (DEHP' group) (P 0.01); however, in the DEHP + SI group, the mRNA levels of the genes obviously increased compared with the DEHP' group (P 0.01). Simultaneously, the methylation level changes of testicular Sod2, Gpx1, and Igf-1 were similar to the mRNA levels (P 0.01). Therefore, DEHP may affect testis and leydig cells via inducing methylation of Sod2, Gpx1, and Igf-1, and SI may rescue the impairments at the methylation level. In summary, SI is supposed to be used in DEHP-induced testicular injury treatment.

The association of genetic variants and congenital bilateral absence of the vas deferens (CBAVD) has been well acknowledged. By contrast, the link between nonobstructive azoospermia (NOA) or oligospermia and alterations in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductive regulator (CFTR) remains inconclusive. To clarify the problem, a meta-analysis was performed out after systematically searching Pubmed, Web of Science, Embase and the Chinese national knowledge infrastructure (CNKI) database. As we know, the ∆F508 and IVS8-5T gene mutations are the most studied genetic variants in CFTR gene. We reviewed the data from male patients who underwent the aforementioned genetic test. Our study revealed that the IVS8-5T mutation may be positively associated with the risk of nonobstructive male infertility (odds ratio (OR) 1.69; 95% CI: 1.12-2.55). This association strengthened when concerning NOA (OR: 2.62; 95% CI: 1.49-4.61). However, the ∆F508 mutation seemed to be a smaller contributing factor to this risk (OR: 1.63; 95% CI: 0.86-3.08). Our study aims to clarify the association between the ∆F508 and IVS8-5T gene mutations and nonobstructive male infertility. Therefore, screening for the IVS8-5T mutation in the CFTR gene may be recommended for men with NOA or severe oligozoospermia seeking assisted reproductive technology (ART).

The present study aimed to determine whether the number of patients with symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) who preferred surgery decreased during the past 11 years at our center (West China Hospital, Chengdu, China), and whether this change affected the timing of surgery and the physical condition of surgical patients. This retrospective study included 57 557 patients with BPH treated from January 2008 to December 2018. Of these, 5427 patients were treated surgically. Surgical patients were divided into two groups based on the time of treatment (groups 8–13 and groups 13–18). The collected data comprised the percentage of all patients with BPH who underwent surgery, baseline characteristics of surgical patients, rehabilitation time, adverse events, and hospitalization costs. The surgery rates in groups 8–13 and groups 13–18 were 10.5% and 8.5% (P < 0.001), respectively. The two groups did not clinically differ regarding patient age and prostate volume. The rates of acute urinary retention and renal failure decreased from 15.0% to 10.6% (P < 0.001) and from 5.2% to 3.1% (P < 0.001), respectively. In groups 8–13 and groups 13–18, the mean catheterization times were 4.0 ± 1.7 days and 3.3 ± 1.6 days (P < 0.001), respectively, and the mean postoperative hospitalization times were 5.1 ± 2.4 days and 4.2 ± 1.8 days (P < 0.001), respectively. The incidences of unplanned second surgery and death reduced during the study period. The surgery rate decreased over time, which suggests that medication was chosen over surgery. However, the percentage of late complications of BPH also decreased over time, which indicates that the timing of surgery was not delayed.
