This article examines the publication history of W. E. B. Du Bois's The Souls of Black Folk , which has received only occasional scholarly attention. Recent publications of the book, from both W. W. Norton & Company and Oxford University Press, reprint the first edition of the text without mentioning changes to the second printing. Likewise, the book's editor has been widely misidentified by scholars. In light of this history, the essay reconsiders the initial publication and reception of The Souls of Black Folk , considering how the text circulated among a popular audience. I argue that while Du Bois and his Chicago publisher, A. C. McClurg & Co., sought to target a predominantly white audience by simultaneously appealing to and subverting fantasies of racial dominance, these efforts encountered dual attitudes of resistance. On the one hand, the vast majority of readers harshly rejected Du Bois's argument for racial equality. On the other hand, they interpreted The Souls of Black Folk as confirming racial stereotypes and essential characteristics of the Negro. Such racialized misreading dominated the US literary marketplace at the dawning of the twentieth century, and Du Bois's encounter with this reaction profoundly influenced his authorial approach for the remainder of his career.

Este problema considera a existência de um conjunto de recursos que serão compartilhados por um conjunto de clientes (canteiros de obras) e que pertencem a um agrupamento em comum. A distribuição destes recursos é feita através de um conjunto de veículos capacitados. Existe um conjunto de depósitos (residência dos motoristas) e que abrigam exatamente um único veículo. O veiculo deverá sair e retornar ao nal de uma rota necessariamente ao seu respectivo depósito. Um recursocoletado em um canteiro de um agrupamento pode ser usado para atender qualquer outro canteiro no mesmo agrupamento. Cada canteiro pode ser visitado mais de uma vez. Os recursos podem ser discretizados em itens e assim tanto coleta e entrega podem ser divisíveis. O objetivo deste problema consiste em construirk rotas de veículos que atendam às requisições de alocação de recursos entre os canteiros de obras e que minimizem o somatório dos custos relativos ao transporte dos veículos. Nós propomos com o objetivo de tratar o problema em estudo duas heurísticas construtivas que atenderam a todas restrições presentes no problema. Tais heurísticas desenvolvidas são testados em instâncias próximas das reais e em instâncias de testes. Os resultados são comparados com a prática da empresa e comum método disponível na literatura do MRCO. Os resultados encontrados são superiores aos da empresa e são melhores, principalmente relativo ao tempo de execução computacional, comparado com o método da literatura This paper deals with the problem MRCO (Movimentação de Recursos entre Canteiros de Obras) which is a generalization of the Vehicle Routing Problem, whose motivation is to treat the transport stream in a company in the business of construction of Belo Horizonte. This problem considers the existence of a set of resources that will be shared by a number of customers (construction sites) and belonging to a group in common. The distribution of these resources is via a set of trained vehicles. A number of depots (residence of drivers) and are home to just a single vehicle. The vehicle must leave and return at the end of a route necessarily to their respective deposit. A resource collected in a construction of a cluster can be used to meet any other site in the same grouping. Each site can be played more than once. Resources can be discretized in items and so both collection and delivery can be divisible. The objective of this problem is to build k vehicle routes that meet the resource allocation requests from the construction sites and minimize the sum of the costs of transport of vehicle. We propose with the objective of treating the problem two constructive heuristics that ensure all restrictions present in the problem.Such developed heuristics are tested in instances close to the real ones and in test instances.The results are compared with company practice and with the method available in the MRCO literature. The results found are superior to those of the company and are better, mainly related to the computational execution time, compared to the method of literature
