Summary: This study aimed to estimate the parameters of length‐weight relationship for 16 freshwater fish species that inhabit the Aracá and Demeni Rivers, which are two tributaries of the Negro River (Amazonas state, Brazil). The fishes were sampled using gillnets (15 × 2 m, mesh size 30–120 mm between opposite knots), during 6 days each year, in April 2016, November 2018 and April 2019. The gillnets were placed in the river twice each day; in the morning (5–9 a.m.) and in the evening (5–9 p.m.), with a standardized time of 4 hr. Measurements were taken for standard length (SL – 0.1 cm precision) and total weight (TW – 0.01 g precision). The parameters a and b of the equation WT = a.LTb were estimated. This study also provides new data on of maximum lengths for six species, namely, Argonectes longiceps, Hemiodus atranalis, Chalceus erythrurus, Astrodoras asterifrons, Trachydoras steindachneri and Acarichthys heckelii. Asymptotic expansions of the global error of numerical methods are well-understood, if the differential equation is non-stiff. This paper is concerned with such expansions for the implicit Euler method, the linearly implicit Euler method and the linearly implicit mid-point rule, when they are applied to stiff differential equations. In this case perturbation terms are present, whose dominant one is given explicitly. This permits us to better understand the behaviour of extrapolation methods at stiff differential equations. The objective of this study was to spatialize sport fishing operations and assess the frequency of the use of the fishing areas in the state of Amazonas by combining the Geographic Information System (GIS) approach and information available in the documents sent to the Instituto de Proteção Ambiental do Amazonas (IPAAM). Information on sport fishing tourism operations was gathered from the IPAAM database and fishing licenses (FLs). Data analysis was conducted utilizing descriptive analysis, and the spatialization of the locations was performed using Q-GIS software. From 2002 to August 2021, 163 requests for FLs were made. There was a decrease in the amount of first time FL requests, with a peak in 2018 and 2019, N=17 and N=18, respectively. The activity is conducted in 24 municipalities, with Barcelos (31.36%) and Presidente Figueiredo (17.75%) being the most popular. At the sub-basin level, sport fishing is notably present in the Negro, Amazonas, Aripuanã, Madeira, Purus and Solimões River basins. Overall, 26.38% of operations take place in conservation areas, specifically in sustainable development reserves (SDRs). Barcelos recorded the largest number of rivers used, with 15 rivers. These results can support future proposals for the sustainable management of fisheries through the zoning of fishing areas in the state of Amazonas.

Background and Aims: Hemophilia A is a severe bleeding disorder caused by the deficiency of functionally active coagulation factor VIII (FVIII). The induction of neutralizing anti-drug antibodies is a major complication in the treatment of hemophilia A patients with FVIII replacement therapies. Why some patients develop neutralizing antibodies (FVIII inhibitors) while others do not is not well understood. Previous studies indicated that the induction of FVIII inhibitors requires cognate interactions between FVIII-specific B cells and FVIII-specific CD4+ T cells in germinal center reactions. In this study, we investigated the FVIII peptide repertoire presented by antigen-presenting cells (APCs) under different microenvironment conditions that are expected to alter the uptake of FVIII by APCs. The aim of this study was to better understand the association between different microenvironment conditions during FVIII uptake and the FVIII peptide patterns presented by APCs., Methods: We used a FVIII-specific CD4+ T cell hybridoma library derived from humanized HLA-DRB1*1501 (human MHC class II) hemophilic mice that were treated with human FVIII. APCs obtained from the same mouse strain were preincubated with FVIII under different conditions which are expected to alter the uptake of FVIII by APCs. Subsequently, these preincubated APCs were used to stimulate the FVIII-specific CD4+ T cell hybridoma library. Stimulation of peptide-specific CD4+ T-cell hybridoma clones was assessed by analyzing the IL-2 release into cell culture supernatants., Results: The results of this study indicate that the specific microenvironment conditions during FVIII uptake by APCs determine the peptide specificities of subsequently activated FVIII-specific CD4+ T cell hybridoma clones. The aim objective of this study was to determine the trophic ecology of juvenile and adult Acestrorhynchus falcirostris during the rising and flood (high-water) period in six island lakes adjacent to the Solimões River. As such, we investigated: i) the trophic position, through the fractional trophic niche; ii) the niche breadth; iii) niche overlap and iv) the food strategy of the species. The specimens were collected during the years 2014 to 2017, using gillnets with mesh sizes ranging from 30 to 120mm between opposite knots. Through the analysis of stomach contents, the preference in the consumption of items of animal origin was observed. Juveniles consumed insects in greater proportions (IAi% = 50%), while adults consumed fish (IAi%=99,98%). Despite the large supply of food items available in the high-water period, juveniles were the only ones to consume items of allochthonous origin, such as insects. Juveniles presented a different dietary strategy and dietary composition to adults. Juveniles were omnivores with a generalist strategy, while adults were piscivores with a specialist strategy. Thus, the food composition, niche breadth, trophic position and feeding strategy of Acestrorhynchus falcirostris change due to the stage of development.

This research aimed to estimate the length-weight ratio (LWR) of the stingray Potamotrygon wallacei, known locally as the cururu, which was caught in streams and lakes in the middle Negro River region, Amazonas, Brazil. The stingrays were captured during the night (from 11 pm to 1 am) near the shores of streams and lakes, through active search using wooden canoes, head lanterns and scoop nets. The samplings were carried out in November 2017 (5 days), February (8 days), March (3 days) and April (2 days) of 2018, totaling 18 days of sampling. The total fresh weight was measured to 0.1 g of accuracy and the disc width to 0.1 cm accuracy. The parameters a and b of the equation W=a.DWb were estimated. This study provides new maximum length data for the cururu stingray.
