AbstractStatistics is interdisciplinary and the practical application of statistical methods in various areas prompts undergraduates to learn more about statistics and better understand complex methods. This article presents a classroom teaching design that guides students in reading COVID-19 literature. The activities presented encourage peer-peer and student-instructor interaction, which can be modified based on the type of course offered as well as the level and major of students by changing the articles required for reading. The teaching activities are designed with evidence-based teaching strategies such as scaffolding and connecting the activities to learning outcomes aligned with levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy. In our experience, the COVID-19 literature teaching activity improves students’ learning interest, cultivates students’ critical thinking, and enhances students’ understanding of theoretical methods. BackgroundRheumatic heart disease (RHD) continues to be a significant global health concern, exhibiting unique regional disparities. Although there is a noted decline in the burden of RHD, the specific causatives for this decrease remain unclear. This study aims to identify and quantify the spatiotemporal patterns related to the RHD-attributable risk burden.MethodsThe data pertaining to deaths and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) attributable to RHD risk were drawn from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study conducted from 1990 to 2019. These data, categorized by age, gender, and geographical location, highlighted risk factors including diets high in sodium, elevated systolic blood pressure (SBP), and lead exposure. To examine the long-term trends in RHD changes due to these specific risk factors, the average annual percentage change (AAPC) method was used.ResultsDuring the past 30 years, the highest decrease in RHD burden was attributed to high SBP. An AAPC of −2.73 [95% confidence interval (CI): −2.82 to −2.65] and − 2.45 (95% CI: −2.55 to −2.36) in deaths and DALYs was attributable to high SBP, while an AAPC of −3.99 (95% CI: −4.14 to −3.85) and − 3.74 (95% CI: −3.89 to −3.6) in deaths and DALYs was attributed to a diet high in sodium. Moreover, the trends in deaths and DALYs due to lead exposure also showed decreases with an AAPC of −2.94 (95% CI: −3 to −2.89) and − 3.46 (95% CI: −3.58 to −3.34) from 1990 to 2019. Oceania showed an upward trend of the RHD DALYs due to high SBP, with an AAPC of 0.23 (95% CI: 0.13 to 0.33). In general, countries in Oceania, East Asia, and South Asia had higher age-standard deaths and DALY rates of RHD due to diets high in sodium.ConclusionOur study has revealed that high SBP remains the prime risk factor contributing to the RHD burden. There are decreasing spatiotemporal patterns in RHD-related deaths and burdens. Gaining this knowledge is fundamental to making informed public health strategies and clinical decisions, especially concerning risk assessment, screening, and prevention initiatives.

Abstract Background Desmoplastic fibroma is an extremely rare primary bone tumor. Its characteristic features include bone destruction accompanied by the formation of soft tissue masses. This condition predominantly affects individuals under the age of 30. Since its histology is similar to desmoid-type fibromatosis, an accurate diagnosis before operation is difficult. Desmoplastic fibroma is resistant to chemotherapy, and the efficacy of radiotherapy is uncertain. Surgical excision is preferred for treatment, but it entails high recurrence. Further, skeletal reconstruction post-surgery is challenging, especially in pediatric cases. Case presentation Nine years ago, a 14-year-old male patient presented with a 4-year history of progressive pain in his left wrist. Initially diagnosed as fibrous dysplasia by needle biopsy, the patient underwent tumor resection followed by free vascularized fibular proximal epiphyseal transfer for wrist reconstruction. However, a histological examination confirmed a diagnosis of desmoplastic fibroma. The patient achieved bone union and experienced a recurrence in the ipsilateral ulna 5 years later, accompanied by a wrist deformity. He underwent a second tumor resection and wrist arthrodesis in a single stage. The most recent annual follow-up was in September 2023; the patient had no recurrence and was satisfied with the surgery. Conclusions Desmoplastic fibroma is difficult to diagnose and treat, and reconstruction surgery after tumor resection is challenging. Close follow-up by experienced surgeons may be beneficial for prognosis.

Objective·To detect the serum levels of high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) and soluble triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells-1 (sTREM-1) in patients with multiple injuries at different time points, and to analyze their correlation with disease severity, complications and prognosis.Methods·Ninety-two patients with multiple injuries admitted to the Department of Emergency Medicine of the Suzhou Ninth People′s Hospital from December 2020 to December 2022 were selected. According to the injury severity scores of the patients at admission, the patients were divided into light injury group (n=24), grave injury group (n=58) and severe injury group (n=10). According to whether there was multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) after admission, the patients were divided into MODS group (n=20) and non-MODS group (n=72). According to the outcome within 28 d after trauma, the patients were divided into death group (n=13) and survival group (n=79). Inflammatory factor indicators in venous blood of patients after admission were detected. Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to detect the serum HMGB1 and sTREM-1 levels at 24 h, 72 h and 7 d after trauma, and the differences of serum HMGB1 and sTREM-1 levels among different groups were analyzed. Multiple Logistic regression was used to analyze the influencing factors of adverse outcomes in patients with multiple injuries. The rice planthopper, Sogatella furcifera, is a piercing-sucking insect pest of rice, Oryza sativa. It is responsible for significant crop yield losses, and has developed moderate to high resistance to several commonly used chemical insecticides. We investigated the effects of the insect fungal pathogen Isaria javanica, alone and in combination with the chemical insecticide dinotefuran, on S. furcifera under both laboratory and field conditions. Our results show that I. javanica displays high infection efficiency and mortality for different stages of S. furcifera, reducing adult survival, female oviposition and ovary development. Laboratory bioassays showed that the combined use of I. javanica with a low dose (4–16 mg L–1) of dinotefuran resulted in higher mortality in S. furcifera than the use of I. javanica or dinotefuran alone. The combined treatment also had more significant effects on several host enzymes, including superoxide dismutase, catalase, peroxidase, and prophenol oxidase activities. In field trials, I. javanica effectively suppressed populations of rice planthoppers to low levels (22–64% of the level in untreated plots). Additional field experiments showed synergistic effects, i.e., enhanced efficiency, for the control of S. furcifera populations using the combination of a low dose of I. javanica (1×104 conidia mL–1) and a low dose of dinotefuran (~4.8–19.2% of normal field use levels), with control effects of >90% and a population level under 50 insects per 100 hills at 3–14 days post-treatment. Our findings indicate that the entomogenous fungus I. javanica offers an attractive biological control addition as part of the integrated pest management (IPM) practices for the control of rice plant pests.

Abstract Citrus melanose, caused by Diaporthe citri, is one of the most important and widespread fungal diseases of citrus. Previous studies demonstrated that the citrus host was able to trigger the defense response to restrict the spread of D. citri. However, the molecular mechanism underlying this defense response has yet to be elucidated. Here, we used RNA-Seq to explore the gene expression pattern at the early (3 days post infection, dpi) and late (14 dpi) infection stages of citrus leaves in response to D. citri infection, and outlined the differences in transcriptional regulation associated with defense responses. The functional enrichment analysis indicated that the plant cell wall biogenesis was significantly induced at the early infection stage, while the callose deposition response was more active at the late infection stage. CYP83B1 genes of the cytochrome P450 family were extensively induced in the callus deposition-mediated defense response. Remarkably, the gene encoding pectin methylesterase showed the highest upregulation and was only found to be differentially expressed at the late infection stage. Genes involved in the synthesis and regulation of phytoalexin coumarin were effectively activated. F6’H1 and S8H, encoding key enzymes in the biosynthesis of coumarins and their derivatives, were more strongly expressed at the late infection stage than at the early infection stage. Collectively, our study profiled the response pattern of citrus leaves against D. citri infection and provided the transcriptional evidence to support the defense mechanism.

AIM: To assess the visual correction of patients with different degrees of astigmatism with toric soft contact lenses (TSC). METHODS: It was a real-world study with prospective and single-arm design. A total of 384 patients with astigmatism who came for TSC fitting and alignment from November 2022 to January 2023 were included. According to the difference in astigmatism, patients were divided into groups A (cylinder degree: -0.75 to -0.50 D), B (cylinder degree: -1.75 to -1.00 D) and C (cylinder degree ≤ -2.00 D), and followed up on the day of wear, 1wk, 1 and 3mo, mainly to observe visual acuity, refraction, lens fit, visual quality and comfort at 1wk after wear. The visual acuity success rate and the overall success rate of the fitting were evaluation indicators (taking into account the four dimensions of visual acuity, fitting, quality of vision and comfort). The visual acuity success rate was calculated by taking “corrected visual acuity with contact lenses is no less than 1 line or better than best spectacle-corrected visual acuity” (i.e. corrected visual acuity with contact lenses is 1 line below, equal to, one line above or more than best spectacle-corrected visual acuity) as the criterion for visual success, and the the overall success rate of the fitting was calculated by using the comprehensive indicators (visual acuity, fit, visual quality, comfort) to meet certain conditions as the judgment criteria for successful fitting. RESULTS: After 1wk of wearing TSC, the visual acuity success rates of patients were 100% (207/207), 98.58% (139/141) and 97.22% (35/36) in the three groups, respectively, with residual cylinder closed to 0. The acceptability of the lens fitting was over 95%; the incidence of adverse visual symptoms was within 10% and the comfort acceptability was over 97%. The overall success rate of fitting for patients with high, medium and low astigmatism was 93.72% (194/207), 90.78% (128/141) and 88.89% (32/36), respectively. CONCLUSION: TSC (model: G&G POP·CT) are effective in correcting astigmatism in patients with different degrees of astigmatism.

Objectives This study aimed to investigate the availability, price, and affordability of nationally negotiated innovative anticancer medicines in China.Design Retrospective observational study based on data from a nationwide medical database.Data sources/setting Quarterly data about the use of innovative anticancer medicines from 2020 to 2022 were collected from the Chinese Medicine Economic Information Network. This study covered 895 public general hospitals in 30 provincial administrative regions in China. Of the total hospitals, 299 (33.41%) were secondary and 596 (66.59%) were tertiary.Main outcome measures The adjusted WHO and Health Action International methodology was used to calculate the availability and affordability of 33 nationally negotiated innovative anticancer medicines in the investigated hospitals. Price is expressed as the defined daily dose cost.Results On average, the total availability of 33 innovative anticancer medicines increased annually from 2020 to 2022. The median availability of all investigated medicines in tertiary hospitals from 2020 to 2022 was 24.04%, 33.60% and 37.61%, respectively, while the indicators in secondary hospitals were 4.90%, 12.54% and 16.48%, respectively. The adjusted prices of the medicines newly put in Medicare (in March 2021) decreased noticeably, with the decline rate ranging from 39.98% to 82.45% in 2021 compared with those in 2020. Most generic brands were priced much lower than the originator brands. The affordability of anticancer medicines has improved year by year from 2020 to 2022. In comparison, rural residents had lower affordability than urban residents.Conclusions The overall accessibility of 33 nationally negotiated innovative anticancer medicines improved from 2020 to 2022. However, the overall availability of most anticancer medicines in China remained at a low level (less than 50%). Further efforts should be made to sufficiently and equally benefit patients with cancer.

Objective To compare the efficacy and safety of different anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) agents combined with different delivery methods for neovascular glaucoma (NVG).Design Systematic review and Bayesian network meta-analysis (NMA).Data sources PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, ClinicalTrials.gov, ISRCTN and Chinese databases including the China National Knowledge Infrastructure, China Science Periodical Database (Wanfang Database), VIP Journal Integration Platform and China Biology Medicine Database were searched from inception to 5 September 2022.Eligibility criteria We included randomised controlled trials (RCTs) that investigated the treatment of NVG using different anti-VEGF agents combined with various methods of drug administration, without any language limitations. All patients included underwent panretinal laser photocoagulation and there were no restrictions on prior glaucoma surgery.Data extraction and synthesis Two independent reviewers extracted data and assessed the risk of bias. Random-effect Bayesian NMA was conducted to compare the efficacy and safety and rank priority of anti-VEGF regimens. The source of heterogeneity and the related factors affecting the stability of the results were also explored. CINeMA (Confidence in Network Meta-Analysis) was used to assess the certainty of evidence.Results Our analysis included 17 RCTs involving a total of 1311 eyes from 1228 patients. We examined five different treatment regimens, which used three different anti-VEGF drugs. The following treatments showed a significant decrease in intraocular pressure (IOP) compared with the control group at 1 month after glaucoma surgery: simultaneous intravitreal and intracameral injection of conbercept (ICCIVC) (mean difference (MD)=−11.56, 95% credible interval (CrI) −20.8 to −2.24), intravitreal injection of conbercept (MD=−8.88, 95% CrI −13.93 to −3.78), intravitreal injection of ranibizumab (MD=−7.62, 95% CrI −10.91 to −4.33) and intravitreal injection of bevacizumab IVB) (MD=−5.51, 95% CrI −10.79 to −0.35). The surface under the cumulative ranking curve (SUCRA) analysis indicated that ICCIVC (82.0%) may be the most effective regimen in reducing IOP. In terms of safety, there were no statistically significant differences among the interventions. According to the SUCRA analysis, ICCIVC (68.0%) was considered the safest choice with the fewest complications. Subgroup and meta-regression analyses showed that mean age was the main source of heterogeneity. Sensitivity analysis demonstrated the robustness of the study results.Conclusion ICCIVC was more effective and safer than other anti-VEGF regimens for NVG. Simultaneous intravitreal and intracameral injection was found to be the best route of administration, and conbercept was found to be the superior drug selection when compared with ranibizumab and bevacizumab.PROSPERO registration number CRD42022309676.

Purpose Myopia, especially high myopia (HM), represents a widespread visual impairment with a globally escalating prevalence. This study aimed to elucidate the genetic foundations associated with early-onset HM (eoHM) while delineating the genetic landscape specific to Shaanxi province, China.Methods A comprehensive analysis of whole-exome sequencing was conducted involving 26 familial trios displaying eoHM. An exacting filtration protocol identified potential candidate mutations within acknowledged myopia-related genes and susceptibility loci. Subsequently, computational methodologies were employed for functional annotations and pathogenicity assessments.Results Our investigation identified 7 genes and 10 variants associated with HM across 7 families, including a novel mutation in the ARR3 gene (c.139C>T, p.Arg47*) and two mutations in the P3H2 gene (c.1865T>C, p.Phe622Ser and c.212T>C, p.Leu71Pro). Pathogenic mutations were found in syndromic myopia genes, notably encompassing VPS13B, TRPM1, RPGR, NYX and RP2. Additionally, a thorough comparison of previously reported causative genes of syndromic myopia and myopia risk genes with the negative sequencing results pinpointed various types of mutations within risk genes.Conclusions This investigation into eoHM within Shaanxi province adds to the current understanding of myopic genetic factors. Our results warrant further functional validation and ocular examinations, yet they provide foundational insights for future genetic research and therapeutic innovations in HM.

Objectives: Socioeconomic disparities in obesity have been observed in both childhood and adulthood. However, it remains unclear how the role of risk factors influencing these inequalities has evolved over time.Methods: Longitudinal data on 2,866 children and adolescents (6–17 years old) from the China Health and Nutrition Survey were used to track their BMI during childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. Concentration Index was utilized to measure socioeconomic inequalities in obesity, while Oaxaca decomposition was employed to determine the share of different determinants of inequality.Results: The concentration index for obesity during childhood and adulthood were 0.107 (95% CI: 0.023, 0.211) and 0.279 (95% CI: 0.203, 0.355), respectively. Changes in baseline BMI (24.6%), parental BMI (10.4%) and socioeconomic factors (6.7%) were found to be largely responsible for the increasing inequality in obesity between childhood and adulthood. Additionally, mother’s education (−7.4%) was found to contribute the most to reducing these inequalities.Conclusion: Inequalities in obesity during childhood and adulthood are significant and growing. Interventions targeting individuals with higher BMI, especially those who are wealthy, can significantly reduce the gap.

Neural tube defects (NTDs), which are caused by impaired embryonic neural tube closure, are one of the most serious and common birth defects. Peptidyl-prolyl cis/trans isomerase 1 (Pin1) is a prolyl isomerase that uniquely regulates cell signaling by manipulating protein conformation following phosphorylation, although its involvement in neuronal development remains unknown. In this study, we explored the involvement of Pin1 in NTDs and its potential mechanisms both in vitro and in vivo. The levels of Pin1 expression were reduced in NTD models induced by all-trans retinoic acid (Atra). Pin1 plays a significant role in regulating the apoptosis, proliferation, differentiation, and migration of neurons. Moreover, Pin1 knockdown significantly was found to exacerbate oxidative stress (OS) and endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERs) in neuronal cells. Further studies showed that the Notch1-Nrf2 signaling pathway may participate in Pin1 regulation of NTDs, as evidenced by the inhibition and overexpression of the Notch1-Nrf2 pathway. In addition, immunofluorescence (IF), co-immunoprecipitation (Co-IP), and GST pull-down experiments also showed that Pin1 interacts directly with Notch1 and Nrf2. Thus, our study suggested that the knocking down of Pin1 promotes NTD progression by inhibiting the activation of the Notch1-Nrf2 signaling pathway, and it is possible that this effect is achieved by disrupting the interaction of Pin1 with Notch1 and Nrf2, affecting their proteostasis. Our research identified that the regulation of Pin1 by retinoic acid (RA) and its involvement in the development of NTDs through the Notch1-Nrf2 axis could enhance our comprehension of the mechanism behind RA-induced brain abnormalities.

ObjectiveTo construct an evaluation index system for the development of district-level disease prevention and control centers according to the requirements of the modernization of Shanghai’s disease control system and public health work practices， and to comprehensively assess the construction and development of district-level disease prevention and control institutions.MethodsAccording to the national and municipal requirements for the development of disease prevention and control institutions， an index framework was proposed through literature search and expert interviews. 39 representative experts in the field of public health at the national， provincial， and municipal （district） levels were selected to participate in the consultation and construction of the index system. The authority coefficient， the coefficient of variation， etc. were used to carry out quality control and determination of each index on the Delphi method.ResultsThe questionnaire response rate was 100%， the expert authority coefficient was 0.86，the degree of familiarity was 0.79， and the judgment basis was 0.92. ObjectivesTo assess the efficacy of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) for patients with chronic pain.Materials and methodsThe research conducted a systematic search of the Cochrane Library, Web of Science, PubMed, EMBASE, PsycINFO, and Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) databases following the PRISMA guidelines. The retrieval time limit was from the establishment of the database to October 2023. A meta-analysis was carried out for the randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria by using RevMan 5.3.ResultsTwenty-one RCTs were included. At post-treatment, a significant medium effect size (ES) was found in measuring pain interference, functional impairment, pain acceptance, psychological inflexibility, and depression; Pain intensity, anxiety, and quality of life (QOL) had a small ES. At three months post-treatment, a large ES was found in measuring functional impairment, and a medium ES was found in the other indicators.ConclusionThe researchers provided evidence for the effectiveness of ACT as an intervention for patients with chronic pain, which can be applied by clinicians or nurses in practice. Future research should explore the applicability of ACT to different pain conditions and modalities.Implications for nursingPost-treatment data highlight the efficacy of ACT in moderating pain-related outcomes. Clinical nurses are encouraged to incorporate ACT into routine patient education and interventions, including promoting pain acceptance, promoting mindfulness practices, and using cognitive stress reduction techniques. Standardized follow-up after an ACT intervention for patients with chronic pain is critical, including regular assessment, feedback, and realignment of treatment strategies. Overall, ACT became an important tool for nurses to improve the lives of patients with chronic pain.

BackgroundThe development of prenatal diagnosis technology allows prompt detection of severe fetal diseases. To address adverse factors that threaten fetal survival, fetal therapy came into existence, which aims to preserve the function after birth to a higher degree and improve the quality of life.ObjectiveTo conduct a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of studies on fetal therapy in the past decade and explore the research trends and hotspots in this field.MethodsWe conducted a systematic search on the Web of Science Core Collection to retrieve studies related to fetal therapy published from 2012 to 2022. VOSviewer and CiteSpace were used to analyze the key features of studies, including annual output, countries/regions, institutions, authors, references, research hotspots, and frontiers.ResultsA total of 9,715 articles were included after eliminating duplicates. The annual distribution of the number of articles showed that the number of articles published in fetal therapy had increased in the past decade. Countries and institutions showed that fetal therapy is more mature in the United States. Author analysis showed the core investigators in the field. Keyword analysis showed the clustering and emergence frequency, which helped summarize the research results and frontier hotspots in this field. The cocited references were sorted out to determine the literature with a high ranking of fetal therapy in recent years, and the research trend in recent years was analyzed.ConclusionsThis study reveals that countries, institutions, and researchers should promote wider cooperation and establish multicenter research cooperation in fetal therapy research. Moreover, fetal therapy has been gradually explored from traditional surgical treatment to gene therapy and stem cell therapy. In recent years, fetoscopic laser surgery, guideline, and magnetic resonance imaging have become the research hotspots in the field.

Müller cells play an integral role in the development, maintenance, and photopic signal transmission of the retina. While lower vertebrate Müller cells can differentiate into various types of retinal neurons to support retinal repair following damage, there is limited neurogenic potential of mammalian Müller cells. Therefore, it is of great interest to harness the neurogenic potential of mammalian Müller cells to achieve self-repair of the retina. While multiple studies have endeavored to induce neuronal differentiation and proliferation of mammalian Müller cells under defined conditions, the efficiency and feasibility of these methods often fall short, rendering them inadequate for the requisites of retinal repair. As the mechanisms and methodologies of Müller cell reprogramming have been extensively explored, a summary of the reprogramming process of unlocking the neurogenic potential of Müller cells can provide insight into Müller cell fate development and facilitate their therapeutic use in retinal repair. In this review, we comprehensively summarize the progress in reprogramming mammalian Müller cells and discuss strategies for optimizing methods and enhancing efficiency based on the mechanisms of fate regulation.

ObjectivesThe current study aims to evaluate the safety and efficacy of anti-CD38 monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) among patients with relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM) through meta-analysis.MethodsAs of June 2023, we searched PubMed, Web of Science, Embase and the Cochrane Library. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) which compared the clinical outcomes of anti-CD38 mAbs plus immunomodulatory drugs (IMiDs) or proteasome inhibitors (PIs) plus dexamethasone and IMiDs (or PIs) and dexamethasone alone for RRMM patients were included. Efficacy outcomes were mainly evaluated with progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS). The safety was analyzed with hematologic and nonhematologic treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs). All results were pooled using hazard ratio (HR), relative risk (RR), and their 95% confidence interval (CI) and prediction interval (PI).ResultsThis meta-analysis included 11 RCTs in total. Compared with IMiDs (or PIs) and dexamethasone alone, anti-CD38 mAbs in combination with IMiDs (or PIs) and dexamethasone significantly prolonged PFS (HR: 0.552, 95% CI = 0.461 to 0.659, 95% PI = 0.318 to 0.957) and OS (HR: 0.737, 95% CI = 0.657 to 0.827, 95% PI = 0.626 to 0.868) in patients with RRMM. Additionally, RRMM patients receiving anti-CD38 mAbs in combination with IMiDs (or PIs) and dexamethasone achieved higher rates of overall response (RR: 1.281, 95% CI = 1.144 to 1.434, 95% PI = 0.883 to 1.859), complete response or better (RR: 2.602, 95% CI = 1.977 to 3.424, 95% PI = 1.203 to 5.628), very good partial response (VGPR) or better (RR: 1.886, 95% CI = 1.532 to 2.322, 95% PI = 0.953 to 3.731), and minimum residual disease (MRD)-negative (RR: 4.147, 95% CI = 2.588 to 6.644, 95% PI = 1.056 to 16.283) than those receiving IMiDs (or PIs) and dexamethasone alone. For TEAEs, the rates of hematologic and nonhematologic TEAEs, including thrombocytopenia, neutropenia, upper respiratory tract infection (URTI), pneumonia, bronchitis, dyspnea, diarrhea, pyrexia, back pain, arthralgia, fatigue, insomnia, and hypertension, were higher in the anti-CD38 mAbs in combination with IMiDs (or PIs) and dexamethasone group than in the IMiDs (or PIs) and dexamethasone group.ConclusionOur study showed that anti-CD38 mAbs in combination with IMiDs (or PIs) and dexamethasone improved PFS and OS, and achieved higher rates of overall response, complete response or better, VGPR or better, and MRD-negative, as well as higher rates of thrombocytopenia, neutropenia, URTI, pneumonia, bronchitis, dyspnea, diarrhea, pyrexia, back pain, arthralgia, fatigue, insomnia, and hypertension in RRMM patients.Systematic review registrationhttps://www.crd.york.ac.uk/PROSPERO/, identifier CRD42023431071.

This study was conducted to test the effect of transition on the quality of life (QOL) among Chinese children who underwent liver transplantation more than 5 years earlier.

Abstract Objectives To evaluate the performance of a dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) virtual non-calcium (VNCa) technique in the detection of edema-like marrow signal intensity (ELMSI) in patients with knee joint osteoarthritis (OA) compared to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Methods The study received local ethics board approval, and written informed consent was obtained. DECT and MRI were used to examine 28 knees in 24 patients with OA. VNCa images were generated by dual-energy subtraction of calcium. The knee joint was divided into 15 regions for ELMSI grading, performed independently by two musculoskeletal radiologists, with MRI as the reference standard. We also analyzed CT numbers through receiver operating characteristics and calculated cut-off values. Results For the qualitative analysis, we obtained CT sensitivity (Readers 1, 2 = 83.7%, 89.8%), specificity (Readers 1, 2 = 99.5%, 99.5%), positive predictive value (Readers 1, 2 = 95.3%, 95.7%), and negative predictive value (Readers 1, 2 = 97.9%, 98.7%) for ELMSI. The interobserver agreement was excellent (κ = 0.92). The area under the curve for Reader 1 and Reader 2 was 0.961 (95% CI 0.93, 0.99) and 0.992 (95% CI 0.98, 1.00), respectively. ObjectiveTo realize the dynamic visualization of forensic odontology based on the bibliometrics methods, and capture the research hotspots and identify the future development trend.MethodsLiterature articles published from January 1995 to December 2020 were searched according to specific subject words in the core data set of Web of Science. The visualization analysis of publishing country, institution, discipline, author, co-cited journal and keywords was performed by CiteSpace 5.7.R5W software.ResultsThe annual analysis of publications showed an upward trend of forensic odontology research literature year by year, with the number of annual publications more than 110 in the last five years. Developed countries were the main source of contributions and the average centrality was greater than 0.2. The research of forensic odontology involved multiple disciplines, including stomatology, biology, computer science and medical imaging, with a distinct interdisciplinary feature. A total of 115 nodes were obtained by keyword cluster analysis. The principal line of forensic odontology mainly included individual identification and age estimation and the emergence of hotspots was closely related to new technologies. Population-based odontology investigation, improvement of traditional dental age estimation method and dental age estimation based on new technology were popular research in forensic odontology.ConclusionDeveloping countries urgently need to increase the focus on related research. It may be an important direction for the development of forensic odontology to establish and enrich the regional dental database, develop new odontology identification technology combined with frontier and high-end technology, and develop the identification program based on advanced information technology.

The fluidic pintle nozzle, a new method to control the thrust of a solid rocket motor, has been proposed in recent years by combining the pintle with the aerodynamic throat (fluidic throat). The study of static characteristics has proved that it has a remarkable effect on thrust control. To study the transient characteristics of the fluidic pintle nozzle, 2D transient simulations of a fluidic pintle nozzle propulsion system were conducted, employing dynamic meshing techniques. The Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes equations were meticulously solved, implementing a k–ω SST turbulence model. The thrust control principle of the fluid pintle nozzle was studied, and the wave structure was summarized. The transient characteristics of the secondary flow opening, secondary flow closing, pintle moving forward (pressure rise), and pintle moving backward (pressure drop) were obtained, and the effects of the injection angle and injection port position were studied. The response process after injection can be roughly divided into three stages: pressure propagation, pressure oscillation, and equilibrium stability, with time distributions of 0.4%, 5.39%, and 94.21%, respectively. In the process of the pintle moving forward, the rate of combustion chamber pressure increases and thrust decreases gradually because of the arc wall of the nozzle throat upstream, and the process of throats moving backward is just the opposite. Compared with the condition with a maximum throat opening and no secondary flow, the thrust of the condition with a minimum throat opening and a 0.3-flow-ratio secondary flow is increased by 80.95%. Under conditions of constrained flow ratio, the injection angle of the secondary flow ostensibly exerts negligible influence on the dynamic modulation of thrust. Nevertheless, it remains evident that a reduction in throat opening accentuates the impact of reverse injection. Furthermore, the proximity of the injection port to the head of the pintle is directly proportional to the efficacy of thrust control.

Background: Endometriosis is a common chronic gynecologic disorder with a significant negative impact on women’s health. Wilms tumor 1-associated protein (WTAP) is a vital component of the RNA methyltransferase complex for N6-methyladenosine modification and plays a critical role in various human diseases. However, whether single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the WTAP gene predispose to endometriosis risk remains to be investigated.Methods: We genotyped three WTAP polymorphisms in 473 ovarian endometriosis patients and 459 control participants using the Agena Bioscience MassArray iPLEX platform. The logistic regression models were utilized to assess the associations between WTAP SNPs and the risk of ovarian endometriosis.Results: In the single-locus analyses, we found that the rs1853259 G variant genotypes significantly increased, while the rs7766006 T variant genotypes significantly decreased the association with ovarian endometriosis risk. Combined analysis indicated that individuals with two unfavorable genotypes showed significantly higher ovarian endometriosis risk (adjusted OR = 1.71 [1.23–2.37], p = 0.001) than those with zero risk genotypes. In the stratified analysis, the risk effect of the rs1853259 AG/GG and rs7766006 GG genotypes was evident in subgroups of age ≤30, gravidity≤1, parity≤1, rASRM stage I, and the rs7766006 GG genotype was associated with worse risk (adjusted OR = 1.64 [1.08–2.48], p = 0.021) in the patients with rASRM stage II + III + IV. The haplotype analysis indicated that individuals with GGG haplotypes had a higher risk of ovarian endometriosis than wild-type AGG haplotype carriers. Moreover, false positive report probability and Bayesian false discovery probability analysis validated the reliability of the significant results. The quantitative expression trait loci analysis revealed that rs1853259 and rs7766006 were correlated with the expression levels of WTAP.Conclusion: Our findings demonstrated that WTAP polymorphisms were associated with susceptibility to ovarian endometriosis among Chinese women.

The functional complexity of the central nervous system (CNS) is unparalleled in living organisms. It arises from neural crest-derived cells that migrate by the exact route, leading to the formation of a complex network of neurons and glial cells. Recent studies have shown that novel crosstalk exists between the Notch1 and Nrf2 pathways and is associated with many neurological diseases. The Notch1–Nrf2 axis may act on nervous system development, and the molecular mechanism has recently been reported. In this review, we summarize the essential structure and function of the CNS. The significance of interactions between signaling pathways and between developmental processes like proliferation, apoptosis and migration in ensuring the correct development of the CNS is also presented. We primarily focus on research concerning possible mechanism of interaction between Notch1 and Nrf2 and the functions of Notch1-Nrf2 in neurons. There may be a direct interaction between Notch1 and NRF2, which is closely related to the crosstalk that occurs between them. The significance and potential applications of the Notch1–Nrf2 axis in abnormal development of the nervous system are been highlighten. We also discuss the molecular mechanisms by which the Notch1–Nrf2 axis controls the apoptosis, antioxidant pathway and differentiation of neurons to modulate the development of the nervous system. This information will lead to a better understanding of Notch1–Nrf2 axis signaling pathways in the nervous system and may facilitate the development of new therapeutic strategies.

Objectives: This paper investigates the relationship between part-time and full-time employment and mental health for people with and without disability, as well as differences in the relationship by age and sex. Methods: Using data from 13,219 working-aged people (15–64 years) in the labour force who participated in five annual waves of a longitudinal cohort study in Australia, the analysis used fixed effect regression models to examine within-person changes in mental health associated with changes in employment status (full-time; part-time; unemployed). Differences in the relationship between employment status and mental health by disability, sex, and age were assessed. Results: Among people with disability, there was evidence that working part-time and full-time were associated with a 4.2-point (95% CI 2.6, 5.7) and 6.0-point (95% CI 4.4, 7.6) increase in mental health scores compared with when they were unemployed. For people without disability, there were much smaller differences in mental health associated with working part-time (β = 1.0, 95% CI 0.2, 1.9) and full-time (β = 1.4, 95% CI 0.5, 2.2) compared with when they were unemployed. The positive effects of both part-time and full-time employment were of greater magnitude for people with disability aged younger than 45 years compared to those aged 45 years and older. Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that both part-time and full-time employment may have beneficial effects on the mental health of people with disability, particularly for younger people. The findings underscore the value of employment for people with disability, given we found much larger beneficial mental health effects in comparison to people without disability.

BackgroundPatients with gynecologic cancers experience side effects of chemotherapy cardiotoxicity. We aimed to quantify cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) markers of myocardial fibrosis in patients with gynecologic cancer and low cardiovascular risk who undergo chemotherapy.MethodsThis study is part of a registered clinical research. CMR T1 mapping was performed in patients with gynecologic cancer and low cardiovascular risk undergoing chemotherapy. The results were compared with those of age-matched healthy control subjects.Results68 patients (median age = 50 years) and 30 control subjects were included. The median number of chemotherapy cycles of patients was 9.0 (interquartile range [IQR] 3.3–17.0). Extracellular volume fraction (ECV) (27.2% ± 2.7% vs. 24.5% ± 1.7%, P < 0.001) and global longitudinal strain (−16.2% ± 2.8% vs. −17.4% ± 2.0%, P = 0.040) were higher in patients compared with controls. Patients with higher chemotherapy cycles (>6 cycles) (n=41) had significantly lower intracellular mass indexed (ICMi) compared with both patients with lower chemotherapy cycles (≤6 cycles) (n=27) (median 27.44 g/m2 [IQR 24.03–31.15 g/m2] vs. median 34.30 g/m2 [IQR 29.93–39.79 g/m2]; P = 0.002) and the control group (median 27.44 g/m2 [IQR 24.03–31.15 g/m2] vs. median 32.79 g/m2 [IQR 27.74–35.76 g/m2]; P = 0.002). Patients with two or more chemotherapy regimens had significantly lower ICMi compared with both patients with one chemotherapy regimen (27.45 ± 5.16 g/m2 vs. 33.32 ± 6.42 g/m2; P < 0.001) and the control group (27.45 ± 5.16 g/m2 vs. 33.02 ± 5.52 g/m2; P < 0.001). The number of chemotherapy cycles was associated with an increase in the ECV (Standard regression coefficient [β] = 0.383, P = 0.014) and a decrease in the ICMi (β = -0.349, P = 0.009).ConclusionPatients with gynecologic cancer and low cardiovascular risk who undergo chemotherapy have diffuse extracellular volume expansion, which is obvious with the increase of chemotherapy cycles. This study investigated the ability of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum SCS3 (L. plantarum SCS3) to alleviate oxidative stress in diabetic mice. Diabetic mouse model was established by administering 50 mg/kg (bodyweight) of streptozocin for 5 days. AIM: To investigate the effects of long-term orthokeratology lens wearing on corneal morphology, corneal biomechanics and objective visual quality.METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted to collect 33 myopic patients(60 eyes), including 19 males(35 eyes)and 14 females(25 eyes), mean age 11.80±1.51 years old, with an average equivalent spherical lens of -3.25±0.69D, who had been wearing orthokeratology lens for 2a from October 2019 to December 2020 in our hospital. Relevant data were collected before wearing and 2a after wearing. The radius of curvature(ARC and PRC), the thickness of the thinnest cornea(THP)and the index of comprehensive deviation analysis of corneal dilation(BADD)were measured by Pentacam anterior segment analysis system. Corvis ST biomechanical analyzer measured non-contact biomechanical corrected intraocular pressure(blOP), maximum deformation amplitude(DA), maximum reverse radius(HCR), ratio of deformation amplitude between apex and 1mm(DR), hardness parameters(SPA1), and corneal biomechanical parameters(CBI). The biomechanical index(TBI)of CT scan was obtained by the combined diagnosis system of Pentacam and Corvis ST. OQAS-II objective visual quality analysis system measured modulation transfer function cutoff frequency(MTF cutoff), Stryl ratio(SR), objective scattering coefficient(OSI)and OV value(OV100%, OV20% and OV9%). The above parameters were compared before and continuously wearing orthokeratoscope for 2a. RESULTS: After 2a of wearing orthokeratology, ARC increased, THP decreased, and BADD increased(t=-9.38, 2.85, -13.08; all P0.05). DA increased and HCR decreased compared with before wearing orthokeratology lens(t=-2.37, 2.28; all P0.05). SR was higher than before, OV20% and OV9% were lower than before(t=-5.31, 8.37, 2.34; all P0.05).CONCLUSION: Long-term wearing of orthokeratology lens changed the morphology of the anterior corneal surface, but had no significant effect on the corneal biomechanics, and the objective visual quality of patients was improved during the day, but decreased at night.

Abstract Background Congenital cataract-microcornea syndrome (CCMC) is characterized by the association of congenital cataract and microcornea without any other systemic anomaly or dysmorphism. Although several causative genes have been reported in patients with CCMC, the genetic etiology of CCMC is yet to be clearly understood. Purpose To unravel the genetic cause of autosomal dominant family with CCMC. Methods All patients and available family members underwent a comprehensive ophthalmologic clinical examination in the hospital by expert ophthalmologists and carried out to clinically diagnosis. All the patients were screened by whole-exome sequencing and then validated using co-segregation by Sanger sequencing. Results Four CCMC patients from a Chinese family and five unaffected family members were enrolled in this study. Using whole-exome sequencing, a missense mutation c.295G > T (p.A99S, NM_003106.4) in the SOX2 gene was identified and validated by segregation analysis. In addition, this missense mutation was predicted to be damaging by multiple predictive tools. Variant p.Ala99Ser was located in a conservation high mobility group (HMG)-box domain in SOX2 protein, with a potential pathogenic impact of p.Ala99Ser on protein level. Conclusions A novel missense mutation (c.295G > T, p.Ala99Ser) in the SOX2 gene was found in this Han Chinese family with congenital cataract and microcornea. Our study determined that mutations in SOX2 were associated with CCMC, warranting further investigations on the pathogenesis of this disorder. This result expands the mutation spectrum of SOX2 and provides useful information to study the molecular pathogenesis of CCMC.

To develop an effective suction slot arrangement, computational fluid dynamics simulation software and a high subsonic compressor cascade were used to simulate different suction slots. Based on the effects of various suction slots on the cascade performance under various operating conditions, a novel segmented suction slot structure Seg3 was proposed. The results of the study revealed that in the vicinity of the operating conditions (incidence≤4°), a full-blade height suction slot should be installed at least 5% of the chord length downstream of the corner separation point to effectively remove the separation. For small and medium incidences, the best performance was observed for suction slot SS5, which was located at 60% of the chord length downstream of the leading edge. Analyzing the effects of SS5 and Seg3 on the cascade performance revealed that when the incidence was less than 4°, the reductions in the total pressure loss coefficients for ζsuc of SS5 and Seg3 both exceeded 8.2%. When the incidence was 4° or greater, the ζsuc increased slightly for SS5, whereas it decreased for Seg3, and the ζsuc was reduced. For a 3° incidence, for example, Seg3 reduced the ζsuc and passage blockage by 12.74% and 8.41%, respectively, and increased the static pressure rise coefficient by 18.55% from the baseline values. Thus, the segmented suction slot proposed in this paper outperformed conventional full-blade height suction slots.

To examine the impact of oxidative jets on the thrust vector angle, secondary combustion efficiency, and combustion chamber pressure, inert gas (nitrogen) and pure oxygen are injected into the primary flow, which includes combustible components, at various locations in the divergence section and throat using different injection techniques. The simulations utilize Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations coupled with the SST k-ω turbulence model in two-dimensional numerical simulations and large-eddy simulation in three-dimensional studies. The numerical method is validated through schlieren experiments, and the vortex is identified using the Liutex-Omega method. The vortex structures and flow characteristics are analyzed. The results indicate that, at the same flow rate, the vector control effect of pure oxygen is superior to nitrogen only in the divergence section, but inferior to nitrogen in both the divergence section and throat. However, with improved vector control, the peak of the vector angle is achieved at a lower flow rate in the case of pure oxygen. When the secondary flow is introduced only in the divergence section, the flow ratio corresponding to the peak point in the pure oxygen case is approximately 14.3% earlier than that in the nitrogen case. The introduction of the pure oxygen jet enhances the secondary combustion efficiency of the primary flow, but to a limited extent. Additionally, when the jet is introduced at the throat, the effect of the pure oxygen case on adjusting the combustion chamber pressure is inferior to that of the nitrogen case. Concerning flow details, the trailing lower vortex replaces the trailing major vortex to become the highest magnitude vortex when the momentum flux ratio is small.

PurposeThe present study was performed to detect the prevalence of myopia among primary-school students in Xi'an, north-western of China.MethodsThe present study was a school-based study with students aged from 6 to 13 years old. All the individuals underwent ophthalmological examination and spherical equivalent (SE) of refractive error were measured with non-cycloplegic refraction. Myopia was defined as a SE of ≤ -0.5 diopters (D), and further divided into three stratified groups based on SE: low myopia (≤ -0.5 to >-3.0 D), moderate myopia (≤ -3.0 to >-6.0 D), and high myopia (≤ -6.0 D). Relative risk factors, including age, sex, grade and ethnicity were investigated using questionnaire.ResultsA total of 4,680 individuals were eligible for this survey and 4,654 (99.4% participation rate) were finally included (51.2% boys). The mean age of participants was 8.756 ± 1.727 years. The whole city-level prevalence of total myopia was 57.1% (95% CI: 55.7–58.6%). Additionally, the prevalence of low, moderate, and high myopia was 45.0% (95% CI: 43.5–46.4%), 11.1% (95% CI: 10.2–12.0%), and 1.0% (95% CI: 0.7–1.3%), respectively. Moreover, grade (education level) instead of age, sex and ethnicity was the most essential risk factor for prevalence of overall myopia (OR = 1.844, 95% CI: 1.605–2.119), and an increase of prevalence by 84.4% per grade was seen. Furthermore, similar associations of grade were significant with low myopia (OR = 1.613, 95% CI: 1.385–1.877) and moderate myopia (OR = 2.186, 95% CI: 1.693–2.823), meanwhile, prevalence of low myopia and moderate myopia demonstrated an increase of prevalence by 61.3 and 118.6% per grade, respectively. None of the factors included in the present study was significant risk factor for high myopia.ConclusionsThe present study investigated a non-negligible high prevalence of myopia among primary-school students in Xi'an, north-western of China, and a gradual increasing in proportion with education level.

ObjectiveMyocardial edema is an early manifestation of chemotherapy-related myocardial injury. In this study, we used cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) T2 mapping to assess myocardial edema and its changes during chemotherapy for gynecologic malignancies.MethodsWe enrolled 73 patients receiving chemotherapy for gynecologic malignancies, whose the latest cycle was within one month before the beginning of this study, and 41 healthy volunteers. All participants underwent CMR imaging. Of the 73 patients, 35 completed CMR follow-up after a median interval of 6 (3.3 to 9.6) months. The CMR sequences included cardiac cine, T2 mapping, and late gadolinium enhancement.ResultsMyocardial T2 was elevated in patients who were treated with chemotherapy compared with healthy volunteers [41ms (40ms to 43ms) vs. 41ms (39ms to 41ms), P = 0.030]. During follow-up, myocardial T2 rose further [40ms (39ms to 42ms) vs. 42.70 ± 2.92ms, P < 0.001]. Multivariate analysis showed that the number of chemotherapy cycles was associated with myocardial T2 elevation (β = 0.204, P = 0.029). After adjustment for other confounders, myocardial T2 elevation was independently associated with a decrease in left ventricular mass (β = −0.186; P = 0.024).ConclusionIn patients with gynecologic malignancies, myocardial edema developed with chemotherapy cycles increase, and was associated with left ventricular mass decrease. T2 mapping allows the assessment of myocardial edema and monitoring of its change during chemotherapy.

Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (HT) and its autoantibodies may be associated with oral lichen planus (OLP). In this cross-sectional study, we aimed to assess the relationship among HT, auto-anti-thyroid antibodies, and OLP in a Chinese population of 247 patients with oral lichen planus. Clinical manifestations of OLP were evaluated using the Thongprasom scoring system and clinical type. The diagnosis of HT was based on thyroid function, anti-thyroid peroxidase antibody (anti-TPOAb) and anti-thyroglobulin antibody (anti-TgAb) detection, and ultrasonography. The prevalence of HT in all patients with OLP was 39.68% (98/247); the prevalence in females with OLP was 46.24% (86/186), which was higher than that in males with OLP 19.67% (12/61) (P < 0.01). The titers of the two HT autoantibodies in females with OLP were higher than those in males (P < 0.01). The clinical manifestations of OLP, regardless of being evaluated using the Thongprasom system or clinical type, were not significantly associated with HT development or TPOAb (P = 0.864) or TgAb titers (P = 0.745). In this population-based southern Chinese cohort, the prevalence of HT in patients with OLP, particularly in female patients with OLP, was significantly higher than that in the general population. Female patients had higher HT autoantibody titers than male patients. However, the clinical manifestations of OLP were not significantly correlated with either HT development or auto-anti-thyroid antibody levels. The findings could help further elucidate the factors involved in the relationship between oral lichen planus and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis.

Southern China is a major rice-producing region where mixed rice cropping systems (single cropping rice (SCR) and double-cropping rice (DCR)) are widely practiced. An accurate estimation of the spatiotemporal changes in cropping systems is important for understanding the dynamic of paddy rice system and for developing suitable agricultural policies. However, few studies focus on mapping long-term changes in cropping systems in this subtropical region. The objective of this research is 1) to improve the phenology- and pixel-based paddy rice mapping (PPPM) algorithm by simultaneously considering the phenology signatures in the rice transplanting and heading periods; 2) to better identify different rice cropping systems and analyze their changes. Based on the improved PPPM method, we generated annual maps of SCR and DCR in southern China with image collection of Landsat 5, 7, and 8 from 1999 to 2019 using the Google Earth Engine platform. The overall accuracies of cropping system results for the study regions range from 81.0% to 98.1% depending on the areas of interest created in our study area. Then, the spatiotemporal patterns of the annual SCR and DCR time series were analyzed. In 2000, the total rice area was 208,614.6 km2, decreased sharply in 2003, and thereafter, the total increase in the paddy rice area fluctuated until 2011. From 2000 to 2019, the total rice area decreased to 171,474.3 km2 in 2019. The results showed that relatively stable SCR mainly distributed in Anhui, Hubei, and Jiangsu provinces whereas DCR occurred in Guangdong, Hunan and Jiangxi provinces. DCR-to-SCR conversion occurred drastically in Hunan, Hubei, and Jiangxi provinces. Rice-to-non-rice conversion was more prevalent in Hunan and Hubei provinces. Detailed spatiotemporal information over 20 years suggested that the plans for agricultural resources utilization in some specific provinces should be proposed, which is of great significance for food security in the major rice-producing area in southern China.

Objective This study was performed to examine the relationship between the C-reactive protein/albumin ratio (CAR) and the prognosis of patients with lung adenocarcinoma and thus provide a reference for evaluating the prognosis of lung adenocarcinoma. Methods The clinical data of 130 patients with lung adenocarcinoma were retrospectively collected and analyzed. The patients’ overall survival (OS) time was calculated, and the factors affecting OS were statistically analyzed. Results The CAR was correlated with sex, clinical stage, brain metastasis, S100 calcium-binding protein B (S100B), interleukin 17, myelin basic protein, squamous cell carcinoma antigen (SCC-Ag), and the lymphocyte count. The median OS was significantly shorter in the high- than low-CAR group (18 vs. 64 months, respectively). The CAR, clinical stage, brain metastasis, S100B, interleukin 17, SCC-Ag, C-reactive protein, albumin, and neutrophil count affected the OS of patients with lung adenocarcinoma. The CAR and clinical stage were independent risk factors for a poor prognosis in patients with lung adenocarcinoma. Conclusions The CAR and clinical stage are independent risk factors for OS in patients with lung adenocarcinoma.

Abstract Background Venous thromboembolism (VTE) in ovarian cancer (OC) patients has been widely investigated, but our knowledge on the role of VTE in OC patients receiving chemotherapy is limited. The aim of our study was to investigate the prevalence, risk factors, and prognostic value of chemotherapy-associated VTE in OC. Methods Three databases (PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library) were systematically searched from inception to October 14, 2020. The primary outcome was the prevalence of VTE in OC patients receiving chemotherapy. The risk factors and prognostic value of VTE were the secondary outcomes. The pooled prevalence of VTE was estimated using the generic inverse-variance method. The statistical heterogeneity was evaluated with Cochran’s Q test and I 2 statistic. Funnel plot, Begg’s test, and Egger’s test were used to assess the potential publication bias in the meta-analysis. Results A total of eleven observational studies with 4759 OC patients were included. The pooled prevalence of VTE was 9% (95% CI, 0.06–0.12) in OC patients receiving chemotherapy. The results of subgroup analysis and sensitivity analysis were basically consistent with the overall pooled estimate. Multiple significant risk factors associated with VTE were also identified including advanced age, D-dimer > 0.5 mg/mL, and tumor diameter > 10 cm. Only two included studies reported the prognostic value of VTE in OC patients receiving chemotherapy, but with inconsistent results. Funnel plot showed that there existed potential publication bias, which was further verified by statistical test, but the results of the trim-and-fill method showed the pooled estimate kept stable after adding two “missing” studies. Conclusions This current study revealed that the pooled prevalence of chemotherapy-related VTE in OC was approximately 9% in OC patients. Risk factors for chemotherapy-related VTE were also identified which may contribute to targeting potentially preventative measures for VTE in OC.

AIM: To analyze the refraction status,ocular biological parameters and the relationship between them in 3-12 years old children.METHODS: Totally 1 138(2 276 eyes)children aged 3-12 years old were enrolled in this study from January 2016 to October 2017. Equivalent spherical degree, axial length, corneal curvature and corneal thickness were measured. RESULTS: The average spherical diopter of 1 138 children is -0.67±2.66D, the average corneal curvature is 43.37±1.72D, and the axial length is 23.65±1.41mm. The average corneal curvature of boys is 42.98±1.86D and that of girls is 43.81±1.42D. The axial length of boys is 23.94 ± 1.36 mm and that of girls is 23.32±1.40mm. The central corneal thickness of boys is 541.83±33.73μm and that of girls is 536.10±31.49μm. The corneal astigmatism of boys was 1.53±0.99D and that of girls is 1.65±1.02D. There is a significant difference between boys and girls. Axial length and central corneal thickness are lower in 3-6 age group than those in other age groups. Equivalent diopter and corneal astigmatism are higher than those in other age groups(PCONCLUSION: The axial length and corneal curvature are the main factors affecting the refraction status in children. With the growth axial length, the curvature of cornea also changes to some extent. AL/CR can predict this change.

Abstract Background Lysine 2-hydroxyisobutyrylation (Khib), a newly identified post-translational modification, is known to regulate transcriptional activity in animals. However, extensive studies of the lysine 2-hydroxyisobutyrylome in plants and animals have yet to be performed. Results In this study, using LC-MS/MS qualitative proteomics strategies, we identified 4163 Khib sites on 1596 modified proteins in rice (Oryza sativa) seedlings. Motif analysis revealed 10 conserved motifs flanking the Khib sites, and subcellular localization analysis revealed that 44% of the Khib proteins are localized in the chloroplast. Gene ontology function, KEGG pathway, and protein domain enrichment analyses revealed that Khib occurs on proteins involved in diverse biological processes and is especially enriched in carbon metabolism and photosynthesis. Among the modified proteins, 20 Khib sites were identified in histone H2A and H2B, while only one site was identified in histone H4. Protein-protein interaction (PPI) network analysis further demonstrated that Khib participates in diverse biological processes including ribosomal activity, biosynthesis of secondary metabolites, and metabolic pathways. In addition, a comparison of lysine 2-hydroxyisobutyrylation, acetylation, and crotonylation in the rice proteome showed that 45 proteins with only 26 common lysine sites are commonly modified by three PTMs. The crosstalk of modified sites and PPI among these PTMs may form a complex network with both similar and different regulatory mechanisms. Conclusions In summary, our study comprehensively profiles the lysine 2-hydroxyisobutyrylome in rice and provides a better understanding of its biological functions in plants.

The finite-time lag synchronization problem of memristive neural networks with multi-links (MNNLs) is discussed with the adaptive controllers, and the discrete and distributed time-varying delays are included in the network models. With the Lyapunov functional method and the properties of inequality, two different finite-time methods are adopted to prove and compare the effects of the two proposed theorems, and three corollaries are obtained and to be analyzed. Using the assumptions of Lipschitz continuous and boundedness of the activation functions, three lemmas are derived to deal with the difficulty caused by the memristive jumping properties and synchronization lag feature, which make the proof of the theorems simple and clear. Based on that whether time-varying delays are included, with the adaptive control strategy, we design delay-independent and delay-dependent adaptive controllers with different adaptive parameters for the MNNLs respectively. Finally, two numerical simulations are given to show the effectiveness and correctness of the obtained theoretical results.

One of the key factors in repairing spinal cord injury is reducing inflammation and oxidative stress. So, it was tried to increase the growth of neurons more rapidly by enhancing the macrophage M2 and reducing the M1 to M2 ratio by using the possible role of tacrolimus (TAC) loaded on polyethylene glycol-modified maghemite nanospheres (PEG-MNs). In this regard, after designing PEG-MNs-TAC in a three-step process and examining their properties through TEM, DLS and XRD analyses. A toxicity assay was then performed by using MTT test. To investigate the healing role of TAC on damaged tissue, a rat model was used to induce injury in vertebral T6 through physical injury. Then, rats were allocated into five groups: negative control, MNs, PEG-MNs , TAC (and PEG-MNs-TAC. Next, motor scale index, behavioral test, macrophage markers expression, concentration of IL-6, IL-2 and TNF-α, and oxidative stress on rats were analyzed. The results revealed that TAC and PEG-MNs-TAC significantly improved mobility and neuropathic tests. Furthermore, the decrease in TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-2 along with the decrease in ROS levels in the injured spinal cord were considerable in both TAC- and PEG-MNs-TAC-treated groups. Nonetheless, the PEG-MNs-TAC exposed more favorable outcomes compared to TAC. Overall, PEG-MNs-TAC could provide a new treatment for damaged spinal cord care by reducing oxidative stress and decreasing M1 to M2 ratio.

Abstract Background Histone modifications play important roles in growth and development of rice (Oryza sativa L.). Lysine butyrylation (Kbu) with a four-carbon chain is a newly-discovered histone acylation modification in rice. Main Body In this study, we performed chromatin immunoprecipitation sequencing (ChIP-seq) analyses, the result showed that major enrichment of histone Kbu located in genebody regions of rice genome, especially in exons. The enrichment level of Kbu histone modification is positively correlated with gene expression. Furthermore, we compared Kbu with DNase-seq and other histone modifications in rice. We found that 60.06% Kub enriched region co-located with DHSs in intergenic regions. The similar profiles were detected among Kbu and several acetylation modifications such as H3K4ac, H3K9ac, and H3K23ac, indicating that Kbu modification is an active signal of transcription. Genes with both histone Kbu and one other acetylation also had significantly increased expression compared with genes with only one acetylation. Gene Ontology (GO) enrichment analysis revealed that these genes with histone Kbu can regulate multiple metabolic process in different rice varieties. Conclusion Our study showed that the lysine butyrylation modificaiton may promote gene expression as histone acetylation and will provide resources for futher studies on histone Kbu and other epigenetic modifications in plants.
