11. A Multi-Parameter Tunable and Compact Plasmon Modulator in the Near-Infrared Spectrum.

Abstract

To keep pace with the demands of modern photonic integration technology, the electro-optic modulator should feature multi-parameter tunable components and a compact size. Here, we propose a hybrid structure that can modulate the multi-parameters of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) simultaneously with a compact size by controlling the electron concentration of indium tin oxide (ITO) in the near-infrared spectrum. The length, width and height of the device are only 15 μm, 5 μm and 9 μm, respectively. The numerical results show that when the electron concentration in ITO changes from 7.5 × 1026 m−3 to 9.5 × 1026 m−3, the variation in amplitude, wavelength and phase are 49%, 300 nm and 347°, respectively. The demonstrated structure paves a new way for multi-parameter modulation and the realization of ultracompact modulators. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

23. Fano and Lorentz Resonance Achieving Based on Dual-Injection Micro-Disk Resonator by Phase Relation

Abstract

A method to achieve Fano resonance and Lorentz resonance is theoretically proposed in this article, which is realized by changing the phase difference between the two input lights in the dual-injection structure. The method is analyzed by coupled-mode theory and exemplified by considering a dual-injection micro-disk resonator. Depending on the phase relationship between the two input lights in a dual-injection micro-disk resonator, two different resonances can be created. When the two input lights are out of phase by π/2, each whispering gallery mode (WGM) in the micro-disk resonator will generate Fano resonance. When the phase difference between the two input lights is zero, Lorentz resonances are observed, and some resonant modes disappear in the spectrum, which results in the free spectral range (FSR)of each mode being doubled

34. Two types of corner states in two-dimensional photonic topological insulators.

Abstract

Higher-order topological insulators, which go beyond the conventional bulk-boundary correspondence, have become a hot research topic in recent years. In this paper, we propose a two dimensional second-order topological photonic crystal based on a C4 symmetric lattice. By tuning the distance between the dielectric cylinders, the topological phase transition of the structure is realized, one edge state and two types of corner states (one topological and one trivial corner state) are found. Our findings provide an evolution of bulk–corner–edge–corner–bulk in a hierarchy of dimensions, which enriches the study of corner states in photonic systems. Besides, we distinguish two corner states by discussing robustness and mode area, and we verify the topological corner state can be embedded in the bulk states, forming a bound state in continuum by simulation. 42. What's interrupting your search? A diary study of everyday mobile search interruptions

Abstract

Web search is a common activity in a mobile context. However, the nature of performing tasks in a mobile environment means there is the risk interruption. While the effects of interruptions on mobile search have been studied in recent years, the nature of such interruptions occurring in real-world mobile settings have not. Using a diary study approach, we collected data from 20 participants on the everyday interruptions they faced conducting mobile web searches over a 10-day period. We used inductive open coding to categorise the nature of the interruptions assigning each interruption to a category/sub-category combination. We then used a deductive coding approach to classify each interruption as being either internally or externally-induced; and mobile or non mobile-specific. We found a broad range of interruptions, which we have organised into an extensive taxonomy. Further, a substantial proportion of the interruptions are externally-induced and more than half are unique to mobile contexts. The empirical evidence of the nature of mobile search interruptions in our findings provide insight into the complex environment of mobile search, information upon which to base future mobile search studies (e.g., surveys, controlled laboratory studies), and motivation for the study of search interface designs that can help mitigate the effects of such interruptions., Peer Reviewed, Information Seeking in Context (ISIC), Berlin, September 26 - 29, 2022
