Fluxonium qubits are recognized for their high coherence times and high operation fidelities, attributed to their unique design incorporating over 100 Josephson junctions per superconducting loop. However, this complexity poses significant fabrication challenges, particularly in achieving high yield and junction uniformity with traditional methods. Here, we introduce an overlap process for Josephson junction fabrication that achieves nearly 100% yield and maintains uniformity across a 2-inch wafer with less than 5% variation for the phase slip junction and less than 2% for the junction array. Our compact junction array design facilitates fluxonium qubits with energy relaxation times exceeding 1 millisecond at the flux frustration point, demonstrating consistency with state-of-the-art dielectric loss tangents and flux noise across multiple devices. This work suggests the scalability of high coherence fluxonium processors using CMOS-compatible processes, marking a significant step towards practical quantum computing.

The fluxonium qubits have emerged as a promising platform for gate-based quantum information processing. However, their extraordinary protection against charge fluctuations comes at a cost: when coupled capacitively, the qubit-qubit interactions are restricted to XX-interactions. Consequently, effective XX- or XZ-interactions are only constructed either by temporarily populating higher-energy states, or by exploiting perturbative effects under microwave driving. Instead, we propose and demonstrate an inductive coupling scheme, which offers a wide selection of native qubit-qubit interactions for fluxonium. In particular, we leverage a built-in, flux-controlled ZZ-interaction to perform qubit entanglement. To combat the increased flux-noise-induced dephasing away from the flux-insensitive position, we use a continuous version of the dynamical decoupling scheme to perform noise filtering. Combining these, we demonstrate a 20 ns controlled-Z (CZ) gate with a mean fidelity of 99.53%. More than confirming the efficacy of our gate scheme, this high-fidelity result also reveals a promising but rarely explored parameter space uniquely suitable for gate operations between fluxonium qubits.

The Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction is present in the transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDC) magnets of form $M_{1/3}T$S$_{2}$ ($M$ $=$ 3d transition metal, $T$ $\in$ {Nb, Ta}), given that the intercalants $M$ form $\sqrt{3}\times\sqrt{3}$ superlattices within the structure of the parent materials $T$S$_2$ and break the centrosymmetry. Competition between the DM and ferromagnetic exchange interactions in these systems has been shown to stabilize a topological defect known as a chiral soliton in select intercalated TMDCs, initiating interest both in terms of fundamental physics and the potential for technological applications. In the current article, we report on our study of the materials V$_{1/3}$TaS$_2$ and V$_{1/3}$NbS$_2$, using a combination of x-ray powder diffraction, magnetization and single crystal neutron diffraction. Historically identified as ferromagnets, our diffraction results instead reveal that vanadium spins in these compounds are arranged into an A-type antiferromagnetic configuration at low temperatures. Refined moments are 1.37(6)$\mu_{B}$ and 1.50(9)$\mu_{B}$ for V$_{1/3}$TaS$_2$ and V$_{1/3}$NbS$_2$, respectively. Transition temperatures $T_{c}$~$=$~32K for V$_{1/3}$TaS$_{2}$ and 50K for V$_{1/3}$NbS$_{2}$ are obtained from the magnetization and neutron diffraction results. We attribute the small net magnetization observed in the low-temperature phases to a subtle ($\sim$2$^{\circ}$) canting of XY-spins in the out-of-plane direction. These new results are indicative of dominant antiferromagnetic exchange interactions between the vanadium moments in adjacent ab-planes, likely eliminating the possibility of identifying stable chiral solitons in the current materials., Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures

Magnetic neutron scattering measures spin-spin correlations giving information about the long-range spin order as well as the shape of the spin density in magnetic materials. Similarly, detailed first principles calculations directly compute the spin density in materials. In this work, the authors carefully compare experimentally measured magnetic neutron intensities to three levels of theory: density functional theory in two approximations, and fixed-node diffusion Monte Carlo. While each theory performs similarly for the simple antiferromagnet MnO, there are significant differences between density functional theory and diffusion Monte Carlo in NiO. For both materials, fixed-node diffusion Monte Carlo shows the lowest RMS error with respect to experiment for the form factor and the intensity. Through connection of the intensities and form factors to the real-space spin densities, it is shown that diffusion Monte Carlo spin density becomes more diffuse by spreading spin away from the bond directions. This benchmark is of importance when considering the efficacy of an ab initio calculation in capturing both the long-range magnetic correlations and the microscopic spin details of magnetic systems.
