17. Parameter-Free Predictive Torque and Flux Control for PMSM Based on Incremental Stator Flux Predictive Model

Abstract

Model predictive torque control for permanent magnet synchronous motors is sensitive to parameters and requires weighting factors. Model-free parallel predictive torque control (MF-PPTC) is one of the latest solutions. However, it suffers from a heavy computational burden and hardly achieves the optimization of both torque and flux. In this article, a parameter-free predictive torque and flux control (PF-PTFC) is proposed to improve parameter robustness and eliminate weighting factors. First, a parameter-free incremental stator flux predictive model (ISFPM) is defined by eliminating parameter terms found in conventional predictive models. Based on ISFPM, a new cost function without weighting factors is constructed to automatically compensate for the impact of missing parameter items. Compared with the MF-PPTC, the proposed strategy has a lower computational burden and better steady-state performance. Moreover, the PF-PTFC is combined with an active-disturbance-rejection-based discrete-time integral sliding-mode speed controller to improve speed regulation. The experiments confirm the proposed method's superiority.

18. Robust Observer Design With Combined Position and Mutual Inductance Estimation for Sensorless Variable Flux Reluctance Motor

Abstract

Variable flux reluctance motor with dc field windings in stator (DC-VFRM) is a new rare-earth-free design for electric vehicles (EVs) owing to its robust rotor configuration and controllable excitation. This article deals with the estimation of rotor position and mutual inductance between armature and field windings in sensorless DC-VFRM drives. An adaptation law for the mutual inductance magnitude is proposed to augment a back-electromotive-force (back-EMF)-based observer. The augmented observer gains are designed based on the linearized model and stability conditions are derived. The impact of incorrect model parameters on steady-state position estimation errors is studied. A robust parameter design is proposed through the analysis of local stability, which maximizes the allowed model parameter uncertainty. Finally, the proposed observer is experimentally validated on a 12/10 DC-VFRM test platform, showing the stable operation under different operating conditions.

29. I-F Control With Zero <inline-formula><tex-math notation="LaTeX">$D$</tex-math></inline-formula>-Axis Current Operation for Surface-Mounted Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine Drives

Abstract

This article deals with I-f control of surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous machine (SPMSM) drives. Conventional open-loop I-f control is poorly damped and can only operate stably with positive $d$-axis current. An I-f control with a new current compensation loop is proposed to achieve stable $i_{\mathrm{d}}=0$ operation in this work. The proposed method can be used for startup with a seamless transition to sensorless field-oriented-control (FOC), since $i_{\mathrm{d}}=0$ operation is already achieved before switching to FOC. In addition, as the I-f control can now maintain stable $i_{\mathrm{d}}=0$ operation against 100% rated load step disturbance from 10% to 100% rated speed, it could be a standalone control scheme for wide-speed-range operations. The proposed method is supported with detailed stability analysis and its performance is verified experimentally on a 2.7-kW SPMSM drive platform.
