Search

Reactor neutrino experiments play a crucial role in advancing our knowledge of neutrinos. In this Letter, the evolution of the flux and spectrum as a function of the reactor isotopic content is reported in terms of the inverse-beta-decay yield at Daya Bay with 1958 days of data and improved systematic uncertainties. These measurements are compared with two signature model predictions: the Huber-Mueller model based on the conversion method and the SM2018 model based on the summation method. The measured average flux and spectrum, as well as the flux evolution with the ^{239}Pu isotopic fraction, are inconsistent with the predictions of the Huber-Mueller model. In contrast, the SM2018 model is shown to agree with the average flux and its evolution but fails to describe the energy spectrum. Altering the predicted inverse-beta-decay spectrum from ^{239}Pu fission does not improve the agreement with the measurement for either model. The models can be brought into better agreement with the measurements if either the predicted spectrum due to ^{235}U fission is changed or the predicted ^{235}U, ^{238}U, ^{239}Pu, and ^{241}Pu spectra are changed in equal measure.

We present a new determination of the smallest neutrino mixing angle θ_{13} and the mass-squared difference Δm_{32}^{2} using a final sample of 5.55×10^{6} inverse beta-decay (IBD) candidates with the final-state neutron captured on gadolinium. This sample is selected from the complete dataset obtained by the Daya Bay reactor neutrino experiment in 3158 days of operation. Compared to the previous Daya Bay results, selection of IBD candidates has been optimized, energy calibration refined, and treatment of backgrounds further improved. The resulting oscillation parameters are sin^{2}2θ_{13}=0.0851±0.0024, Δm_{32}^{2}=(2.466±0.060)×10^{-3}  eV^{2} for the normal mass ordering or Δm_{32}^{2}=-(2.571±0.060)×10^{-3}  eV^{2} for the inverted mass ordering.

This Letter reports the first measurement of high-energy reactor antineutrinos at Daya Bay, with nearly 9000 inverse beta decay candidates in the prompt energy region of 8-12 MeV observed over 1958 days of data collection. A multivariate analysis is used to separate 2500 signal events from background statistically. The hypothesis of no reactor antineutrinos with neutrino energy above 10 MeV is rejected with a significance of 6.2 standard deviations. A 29% antineutrino flux deficit in the prompt energy region of 8-11 MeV is observed compared to a recent model prediction. We provide the unfolded antineutrino spectrum above 7 MeV as a data-based reference for other experiments. This result provides the first direct observation of the production of antineutrinos from several high-Q_{β} isotopes in commercial reactors.

This information can be used to produce a precise, data-based prediction of the antineutrino energy spectrum in other reactor antineutrino experiments with different fission fractions than Daya Bay. The positron energy spectra are unfolded to obtain the antineutrino energy spectra by removing the contribution from detector response with the Wiener-SVD unfolding method. Consistent results are obtained with other unfolding methods. A technique to construct a data-based prediction of the reactor antineutrino energy spectrum is proposed and investigated. Given the reactor fission fractions, the technique can predict the energy spectrum to a 2% precision. In addition, we illustrate how to perform a rigorous comparison between the unfolded antineutrino spectrum and a theoretical model prediction that avoids the input model bias of the unfolding method.

The establishment of a possible connection between neutrino emission and gravitational-wave (GW) bursts is important to our understanding of the physical processes that occur when black holes or neutron stars merge. In the Daya Bay experiment, using the data collected from December 2011 to August 2017, a search was performed for electron-Antineutrino signals that coincided with detected GW events, including GW150914, GW151012, GW151226, GW170104, GW170608, GW170814, and GW170817. We used three time windows of 10, 500, and 1000 s relative to the occurrence of the GW events and a neutrino energy range of 1.8 to 100 MeV to search for correlated neutrino candidates. The detected electron-Antineutrino candidates were consistent with the expected background rates for all the three time windows. Assuming monochromatic spectra, we found upper limits (90% confidence level) of the electron-Antineutrino fluence of (1.13-2.44)×1011 cm-2 at 5 MeV to 8.0×107 cm-2 at 100 MeV for the three time windows. Under the assumption of a Fermi-Dirac spectrum, the upper limits were found to be (5.4-7.0)×109 cm-2 for the three time windows.

A high precision calibration of the nonlinearity in the energy response of the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment's antineutrino detectors is presented in detail. The energy nonlinearity originates from the particle-dependent light yield of the scintillator and charge-dependent electronics response. The nonlinearity model is constrained by γ calibration points from deployed and naturally occurring radioactive sources, the β spectrum from 12B decays, and a direct measurement of the electronics nonlinearity with a new flash analog-to-digital converter readout system. Less than 0.5% uncertainty in the energy nonlinearity calibration is achieved for positrons of kinetic energies greater than 1 MeV.

This work reports a precise measurement of the reactor antineutrino flux using 2.2 million inverse beta decay (IBD) events collected with the Daya Bay near detectors in 1230 days. The dominant uncertainty on the neutron detection efficiency is reduced by 56% with respect to the previous measurement through a comprehensive neutron calibration and detailed data and simulation analysis. The new average IBD yield is determined to be (5.91±0.09)×10-43 cm2/fission with total uncertainty improved by 29%. The corresponding mean fission fractions from the four main fission isotopes U235, U238, Pu239, and Pu241 are 0.564, 0.076, 0.304, and 0.056, respectively. The ratio of measured to predicted antineutrino yield is found to be 0.952±0.014±0.023 (1.001±0.015±0.027) for the Huber-Mueller (ILL-Vogel) model, where the first and second uncertainty are experimental and theoretical model uncertainty, respectively. This measurement confirms the discrepancy between the world average of reactor antineutrino flux and the Huber-Mueller model.

We report a measurement of electron antineutrino oscillation from the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment with nearly 4 million reactor ν[over ¯]_{e} inverse β decay candidates observed over 1958 days of data collection. The installation of a flash analog-to-digital converter readout system and a special calibration campaign using different source enclosures reduce uncertainties in the absolute energy calibration to less than 0.5% for visible energies larger than 2 MeV. The uncertainty in the cosmogenic ^{9}Li and ^{8}He background is reduced from 45% to 30% in the near detectors. A detailed investigation of the spent nuclear fuel history improves its uncertainty from 100% to 30%. Analysis of the relative ν[over ¯]_{e} rates and energy spectra among detectors yields sin^{2}2θ_{13}=0.0856±0.0029 and Δm_{32}^{2}=(2.471_{-0.070}^{+0.068})×10^{-3}  eV^{2} assuming the normal hierarchy, and Δm_{32}^{2}=-(2.575_{-0.070}^{+0.068})×10^{-3}  eV^{2} assuming the inverted hierarchy.

A search for a time-varying νe signal was performed with 621 days of data acquired by the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment over 704 calendar days. The time spectrum of the measured νe flux normalized to its prediction was analyzed with a Lomb-Scargle periodogram, which yielded no significant signal for periods ranging from 2 hours to nearly 2 years. The normalized time spectrum was also fit for a sidereal modulation under the Standard Model Extension (SME) framework to search for Lorentz and CPT violation (LV-CPTV). Limits were obtained for all six flavor pairs ēμ,ēτ, μτ, ēē,μμ and ττ by fitting them one at a time, constituting the first experimental constraints on the latter three. Daya Bay's high statistics and unique layout of multiple directions from three pairs of reactors to three experimental halls allowed the simultaneous constraint of individual SME LV-CPTV coefficients without assuming others contribute negligibly, a first for a neutrino experiment.

However, traditional IFAs are commonly qualitative or semi-quantitative and are very limited for the efficient testing of samples in field diagnostics. Here, we overcome these limitations by developing a quantum dots (QDs)-based fluorescent IFA for the quantitative detection of C-reactive proteins (CRP). CRP, the well-known diagnostic marker for acute viral and bacterial infections, was used as a model analyte to demonstrate performance and sensitivity of our developed QDs-based IFA. QDs capped with both polyethylene glycol (PEG) and glutathione were used as fluorescent labels for our IFAs. The presence of the surface PEG layer, which reduced the non-specific protein interactions, in conjunction with the inherent optical properties of QDs, resulted in lower background signal, increased sensitivity, and ability to detect CRP down to 0.79 mg/L with only 5 µL serum sample. In addition, the developed assay is simple, fast and can quantitatively detect CRP with a detection limit up to 200 mg/L. Clinical test results of our QD-based IFA are well correlated with the traditional latex enhance immune-agglutination aggregation. Background: An intrauterine device (IUD) is a widely used long-term contraceptive device for family planning. However, the IUD can lead to various complications. Severe complications and remedial measures caused by IUDs have been reported in the literature; however, detailed surgical approaches for safely removing the IUD within the minimum surgical range have rarely been described especially in postmenopausal women. Therefore, this article aims to share our surgical experience in removing an IUD that had reached the serosal surface of the uterus using hysteroscopy alone after menopause to provide new clinical ideas., Case Introduction: We report the case of a 63-year-old Chinese patient with a 12-year history of menopause. She had an IUD placed after an abortion more than 30 years ago. She came to the hospital because of occasional a small amount of unprovoked vaginal bleeding, the preoperative examination suggested an embedded IUD that appeared to have reached the serosal surface of the uterus. The IUD was not visible during hysteroscopic surgery because of uterine adhesions. Microscissors were employed to cut along the white adhesion band, revealing a faintly visible metal wire. We successfully removed the IUD using hysteroscopy only. The patient has recovered well after surgery and has been in good health for more than 5 months, with no complaints of abdominal pain or vaginal bleeding., Conclusion: This case suggests that hysteroscopic exploration can be performed in patients whose preoperative examination indicates that the IUD has reached or protrudes from the serosal surface of the uterus. If necessary, laparoscopic or open surgery can be performed. For patients whose IUD is not visible in the uterine cavity, preoperative imaging can help assess the thickness of the uterine myometrium and the distance to the serosal surface. Intraoperatively, scissors can cut through tissue or adhesions, and instruments can measure the separation distance or visualize the device within the adhesions. Background: Hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) is a prevalent infectious condition in children. This study aimed to assess the regulatory effects of Re-Du-Ning on the intestinal microflora of pediatric patients with HFMD., Methods: Fecal samples were collected from children affected by HFMD, who were diagnosed at the traditional Chinese medicine pediatrics outpatient and emergency departments of Liuzhou Women and Children's Healthcare Hospital, as well as from healthy children undergoing physical examinations at the same hospital during the same period. DNA was extracted from these samples and subjected to 16S ribosome DNA amplicon sequencing. The sequenced data were categorized, quantified, and compared. Analyses involved creating relative abundance bar graphs, constructing unweighted pair-group method with arithmetic mean clustering trees, and generating heatmaps of clustering to evaluate the variations in abundance and diversity across different groups. The analysis of molecular variance and t -test were used to analyze structural differences in microbial flora between groups, and linear discriminant analysis was used to identify significant differences in microbial genera between the groups., Results: A total of 67 fecal samples were collected from children with HFMD (13 in the intravenous group, 40 in the enema group) and from healthy children (14 in the healthy group). When compared with the healthy group, the intestinal microflora diversity and similarity were highest after enema treatment, although the microbial structure exhibited significant changes (weighted&#95;unifrac, P<0.05). Background: Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a localized bulge of the abdominal aorta, which mainly manifests as a pulsatile mass in the abdomen. Once an abdominal aortic aneurysm ruptures, the patient's life is seriously endangered. Surgery is the preferred treatment for abdominal aortic aneurysm. At present, there has been no comprehensive review of the current status of abdominal aortic aneurysm research. Therefore, this study aimed to identify global trends in abdominal aortic aneurysm research over the last 10 years through bibliometric analysis and to inform clinical practice, research funding allocation, and decision-making., Methods: We downloaded research articles and reviews on abdominal aortic aneurysm from 1 January 2014, to 1 March 2024, from the Web of Science core collection. CiteSpace (version 6.2.1), RStudio and VOSviewer (version 1.6.18) were used for visual analysis of regional distribution, institutions, authors, keywords and other information., Results: The number of documents on abdominal aortic aneurysm research increased continuously and has stabilized in recent years. A total of 9,905 publications from 67 countries were published from 1 January 2014, to 1 March 2024. A total of 2,142 (29.52%) studies were from the United States, 1,293 (13.05%) were from China, and 919 (9.28%) were from the United Kingdom. A total of 205 studies were conducted at Stanford University, 172 were conducted at Harvard Medical School, and 165 were conducted at the Mayo Clinic. The top three coauthorship authors were Schermerhorn, Marc L (114); Golledge, Jonathan (102); and De Vries, Jean Paul P.M. (74). The most cocited reference was Chaikof EL, 2018, J Vasc Surg, v67, p. 2; the most cocited journal was the Journal of Vascular Surgery; and the most cocited author was Lederle, FA. Wastewater contains various organic contaminants that pose great hazards to human health and the environment. A protein/polysaccharide-derived aerogel, namely, ICMA, was developed as a high-performance adsorbent for the simultaneous and efficient removal of diverse contaminants from wastewater, including melanoidin (MLE), Congo red (CR), and diclofenac (DIC). Metal organic framework (UiO-66-NH 2 ), as a regulatory factor, significantly improved the porosity and pore volume of the ICMA to enhance the capture performance of contaminants. The ICMA exhibited outstanding adsorption efficiency owing to the incorporation of ample polyamine functional groups and its well-developed pore structure, large porosity and pore volume, and remarkable heat resistance. The equilibrium capture capacities of the ICMA were 1364, 2031, and 539 mg/g for MLE, CR, and DIC, respectively, with corresponding removal efficiencies all exceeding 90%. Furthermore, the ICMA can capture cationic dyes through MLE/CR/DIC-bridging interactions. After five cycles, the used ICMA can still maintain a high contaminant removal rate/amount, demonstrating good reusability. The classic adsorption model showed that the capture of contaminants by the ICMA is a double-layered and heterogeneous adsorption orientation. A brand new LWAMTM model demonstrated that the adsorption mass-transfer process is jointly determined by the external mass conveyance, pore diffusion, and adsorption on the active site. Multiple characterizations indicated that the contaminant adsorption onto the ICMA was mainly facilitated by charge interactions, with H-bonds playing a secondary role. Quantum chemical theory simulations further provide insights into the atomic-level mechanisms involved in the capture of contaminants. Hirshfeld surface analysis revealed that the ICMA functions as both an H-bond acceptor and a donor during contaminant adsorption. Background: Acute hepatic dysfunction (AHD) is a common postoperative complication in patients with acute type A aortic dissection. The aim of this study was to identify risk factors for acute hepatic dysfunction after surgery for acute type A aortic dissection., Methods: We performed a retrospective study from March 1, 2019, to February 28, 2021. The primary endpoints of this study were morbidity due to AHD and risk factors for incidence. Univariate analysis and multivariate logistic regression analysis were used to analyse the related factors, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were plotted to evaluate their predictive value., Results: Among 147 patients, 29 (19.73%) developed postoperative acute hepatic dysfunction, and 9 (6.12%) died. Univariate analysis revealed that the ALT (P = 0.042), Cr (P < 0.001), and BUN (P = 0.008) levels were significantly different between the two groups. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that Cr (OR = 1.013, 95% CI = 1.003-1.023, P = 0.008) was an independent risk factor for postoperative hepatic dysfunction in overweight (BMI > 24) patients with ATAAD. The area under the ROC curve (AUC) for Cr was 0.745 > 0.7, indicating good predictive value., Conclusion: A high Cr concentration is an independent risk factor for postoperative AHD in overweight (BMI > 24) patients with ATAAD., (© 2024. This Letter reports the first measurement of the oscillation amplitude and frequency of reactor antineutrinos at Daya Bay via neutron capture on hydrogen using 1958 days of data. With over 3.6 million signal candidates, an optimized candidate selection, improved treatment of backgrounds and efficiencies, refined energy calibration, and an energy response model for the capture-on-hydrogen sensitive region, the relative ν[over ¯]&#95;{e} rates and energy spectra variation among the near and far detectors gives sin^{2}2θ&#95;{13}=0.0759&#95;{-0.0049}^{+0.0050} and Δm&#95;{32}^{2}=(2.72&#95;{-0.15}^{+0.14})×10^{-3}  eV^{2} assuming the normal neutrino mass ordering, and Δm&#95;{32}^{2}=(-2.83&#95;{-0.14}^{+0.15})×10^{-3}  eV^{2} for the inverted neutrino mass ordering. This estimate of sin^{2}2θ&#95;{13} is consistent with and essentially independent from the one obtained using the capture-on-gadolinium sample at Daya Bay. The combination of these two results yields sin^{2}2θ&#95;{13}=0.0833±0.0022, which represents an 8% relative improvement in precision regarding the Daya Bay full 3158-day capture-on-gadolinium result.

This study aimed to explore the antipyretic and anti-inflammatory effects of rectal administration of Reduning injection in feverish rats induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS), and observe the temperature changes and inflammatory indexes. The selected rats were randomly divided into 6 groups, with 10 rats in each group, named as normal empty group, model group, intravenous group (2 mL/kg), low-dose enema group (1 mL/kg), middle-dose enema group (2 mL/kg), and high-dose enema group (4 mL/kg). The hourly temperature variations in rats injected with LPS in the abdomen were recorded. Five hours later, blood samples from the abdominal aorta were collected to monitor immunoglobulin M (IgM), immunoglobulin A (IgA), interleukin (IL)-6, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α. At 5 hours, the fever peak induced by LPS appeared, and obvious antipyretic effects were observed; the effect was optimal in the medium dose enema group at 4 hours ( p  < 0.05); the IgM value in the enema groups, the intravenous group, and normal empty group was significantly lower than that in the model group; the IgA value in each group was higher than that in the model group, but there was no statistical significance ( p  > 0.05); values of IL-6 and TNF-α in each group were lower than those in the model group, and the difference was statistically significant except for the high-dose enema group ( p  > 0.05). Low-dose and medium-dose rectal administration of Reduning injection have inhibitory effects on IL-6, TNF-α, and IgM in feverish rats induced by LPS, but there is no obvious difference compared to intravenous administration and it could achieve an anti-inflammatory effect. There is a possibility of enhancing IgA immunity with rectal administration, but there is no obvious difference compared to intravenous administration, and rectal administration has no significant effect on mucosal immunity.

This Letter presents results of a search for the mixing of a sub-eV sterile neutrino with three active neutrinos based on the full data sample of the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment, collected during 3158 days of detector operation, which contains 5.55×10^{6} reactor ν[over ¯]&#95;{e} candidates identified as inverse beta-decay interactions followed by neutron capture on gadolinium. The analysis benefits from a doubling of the statistics of our previous result and from improvements of several important systematic uncertainties. No significant oscillation due to mixing of a sub-eV sterile neutrino with active neutrinos was found. Exclusion limits are set by both Feldman-Cousins and CLs methods. Light sterile neutrino mixing with sin^{2}2θ&#95;{14}≳0.01 can be excluded at 95% confidence level in the region of 0.01  eV^{2}≲|Δm&#95;{41}^{2}|≲0.1  eV^{2}. This result represents the world-leading constraints in the region of 2×10^{-4}  eV^{2}≲|Δm&#95;{41}^{2}|≲0.2  eV^{2}.

High-entropy alloys (HEAs) have attracted considerable attention, owing to their exceptional characteristics and high configurational entropy. Recent findings demonstrated that incorporating HEAs into sulfur cathodes can alleviate the shuttling effect of lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) and accelerate their redox reactions. Herein, we synthesized nano Pt 0.25 Cu 0.25 Fe 0.15 Co 0.15 Ni 0.2 HEAs on hollow carbons (HCs; denoted as HEA/HC) by a facile pyrolysis strategy. The HEA/HC nanostructures were further integrated into hypha carbon nanobelts (HCNBs). The solid-solution phase formed by the uniform mixture of the five metal elements, i.e., Pt 0.25 Cu 0.25 Fe 0.15 Co 0.15 Ni 0.2 HEAs, gave rise to a strong interaction between neighboring atoms in different metals, resulting in their adsorption energy transformation across a wide, multipeak, and nearly continuous spectrum. Meanwhile, the HEAs exhibited numerous active sites on their surface, which is beneficial to catalyzing the cascade conversion of LiPSs. Combining density functional theory (DFT) calculations with detailed experimental investigations, the prepared HEAs bidirectionally catalyze the cascade reactions of LiPSs and boost their conversion reaction rates. S/HEA@HC/HCNB cathodes achieved a low 0.034% decay rate for 2000 cycles at 1.0 C. Notably, the S/HEA@HC/HCNB cathode delivered a high initial areal capacity of 10.2 mAh cm -2 with a sulfur loading of 9 mg cm -2 at 0.1 C. The assembled pouch cell exhibited a capacity of 1077.9 mAh g -1 at the first discharge at 0.1 C. The capacity declined to 71.3% after 43 cycles at 0.1 C. In this work, we propose to utilize HEAs as catalysts not only to improve the cycling stability of lithium-sulfur batteries, but also to promote HEAs in energy storage applications.

Purpose: The characteristics of saliva and intestinal microbial community in children with high caries and no caries were analyzed by 16S rDNA high-throughput sequencing., Methods: Among 431 children aged 3-5 years old in Zunyi City who were investigated previously by our team, 25 children in the high caries group and the same in the caries-free group were selected for fecal and saliva samples. 16S rDNA high-throughput sequencing was used to analyze the bacterial flora structure of the samples and identify the species with different relative abundance at the species level. SPSS 18.0 software package was used for data analysis., Results: The diversity of intestinal flora in the high caries group was higher than that in the caries-free group, and the difference was statistically significant(P＜0.05). The diversity of salivary flora in the high caries group was more than that in the caries-free group, with no significant difference(P＞0.05). At phylum level,there was no significant difference in intestinal and salivary flora between children with high caries and children without caries. At gene level, Blautia, [Eubacterium] hallii group and [Eubacterium] eligens group in the intestine of caries-free group were significantly higher than those of high caries group(P＜0.05), while Parasutterella and Christensenellaceae R-7 group were significantly lower than those of high caries group(P＜0.05). At gene level, Peptostreptococcus in saliva of caries-free group was significantly higher than that in high caries group(P＜0.05). Dialister, Kingella, Escherichia-Shigella and Treponema in saliva of caries-free group were significantly lower than those in high caries group(P＜0.05)., Conclusions: There are significant differences in species composition of intestinal flora but no in salivary flora between children with high caries and children without caries.

Objective: Acute mesenteric vein thrombosis (AMVT) is an acute abdominal disease with onset, rapid progression, and extensive intestinal necrosis that requires immediate surgical resection. The purpose of this study was to determine the risk factors for nosocomial intestinal resection in patients with AMVT., Methods: We retrospectively analysed 64 patients with AMVT diagnosed by CTA at the Affiliated Hospital of Kunming University of Science and Technology from January 2013 to December 2021. We compared patients who underwent intestinal resection (42 patients) with those who did not undergo intestinal resection (22 patients). The area under the ROC curve was evaluated, and a forest map was drawn., Results: Among the 64 patients, 6 (9.38%) had a fever, 60 (93.75%) had abdominal pain, 9 (14.06%) had a history of diabetes, 8 (12.5%) had a history of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and 25 (39.06%) had ascites suggested by B ultrasound or CT after admission. The mean age of all patients was 49.86 ± 16.25 years. The mean age of the patients in the enterectomy group was 47.71 ± 16.20 years. The mean age of the patients in the conservative treatment group (without enterectomy) was 53.95 ± 15.90 years. In the univariate analysis, there were statistically significant differences in leukocyte count (P = 0.003), neutrophil count (P = 0.001), AST (P = 0.048), total bilirubin (P = 0.047), fibrinogen (P = 0.022) and DD2 (P = 0.024) between the two groups. The multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that admission white blood cell count (OR = 1.153, 95% CI: 1.039-1.280, P = 0.007) was an independent risk factor for intestinal resection in patients with AMVT. The ROC curve showed that the white blood cell count (AUC = 0.759 95% CI: 0.620-0.897; P = 0.001; optimal threshold: 7.815; sensitivity: 0.881; specificity: 0.636) had good predictive value for emergency enterectomy for AMVT., Conclusions: Among patients with AMVT, patients with a higher white blood cell count at admission were more likely to have intestinal necrosis and require emergency enterectomy. Large quantities of organic dyes are discharged into the environment, causing serious damage to the ecosystem. Therefore, it is urgent to develop inexpensive adsorbents to remove organic dyes. A novel cellulose-based aerogel (MPPA) with 3D porous structure was prepared by using cassava residue (cellulose) as basic construction blocks, doping ferroferric oxide (Fe 3 O 4 ) for magnetic separation, and applying polyethyleneimine (PEI) as functional material for highly efficient and selective capture of Congo red (CR). MPPA exhibited porous network structure, numerous active capture sites, nontoxicity, high hydrophilicity, and excellent thermal stability. MPPA showed superior adsorption property for CR, with an equilibrium adsorption capacity of 2018.14 mg/g, and still had an adsorption property of 1189.31 mg/g after five recycling procedures. In addition, MPPA has excellent selectivity for CR in four binary dye systems. The adsorption behavior of MPPA on CR was further explored using a multilayer adsorption model, EDR-IDR hybrid model and AOAS model. Electrostatic potential and independent gradient models were used to further verify the possible interaction between MPPA and CR molecules. Objective: This study aimed to determine the minimum interaction between different antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) and meropenem (MEPM) for clinical treatment., Patients and Methods: The data of 91 patients enrolled in the neurology department from January 2020 to March 2023 for clinical trials were measured and observed. Self-controlled studies were conducted to monitor the trough concentrations of valproic acid (VPA), carbamazepine (CBZ) and levotiracetam (LEV) before and after MEPM usage. Relevant indicators of liver and kidney function were also monitored., Results: The serum VPA trough concentrations were 36.25±8.22 μg/ml at 24±12 h and 34.99±11.17 μg/ml at 96±12 h after MEPM use; the difference was significant (p<0.05). Decreased CBZ trough concentrations were also identified after MEPM usage (96±12 h), whereas LEV trough concentrations were not affected. An increased liver injury rate (χ2 =8.744, p<0.05) and a decreased kidney injury rate (χ2 =5.393, p<0.05) were found in the VPA group only., Conclusions: The interaction between VPA and MEPM decreased serum VPA concentrations, increased liver injury rates, and decreased kidney injury rates. In addition, the co-administration of MEPM and CBZ reduced serum CBZ concentrations. Clinicians should be aware of this potential interaction and closely monitor the relevant biochemical indices and number of seizures.

Aim: To evaluate the clinical efficacy and systemic safety profile of conbercept in clinical practice on vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-A, VEGF-B, and placental growth factor (PLGF) levels after intravitreal injections for the neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD)., Methods: Thirty-five patients (35 eyes) with neovascular AMD received intravitreal injections of conbercept treatment with pro re nata protocol. Best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and central retinal thickness (CRT) were detected before the intravitreal injection and at 1, 3, and 12mo after conbercept treatment. The levels of serum VEGF-A, VEGF-B, and PLGF were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay before the injection and 1 and 12mo after conbercept treatments., Results: At baseline, the mean BCVA score was 39.89±14.64 letters. The mean BCVA scores were 51.03±15.78, 56.71±14.38, and 52.49±10.16 letters at 1, 3, and 12mo after conbercept treatment, and the BCVA improvements were all significant, respectively ( P <0.05). At baseline, the mean CRT was 436.7±141.9 µm. At 1, 3, and 12mo after conbercept treatment, the mean CRT values were 335.1±147.8, 301.1±116.5, and 312.2±98.22 µm, and the CRT improvements were all significant, respectively ( P <0.05). At baseline, 1 and 12mo after conbercept treatment, the mean levels of serum VEGF-A were 1013.8±454.3, 953.1±426.4, and 981.5±471.7 pg/mL, the mean levels of serum VEGF-B were 46.93±24.76, 42.99±19.16, and 45.32±18.76 pg/mL, the mean levels of serum PLGF at these points were 251.7±154.9, 241.3±166.7, and 245.6±147.2 pg/mL, respectively. Compared with the baseline, the levels of serum VEGF-A, VEGF-B, and PLGF did not significantly change at 1 and 12mo after conbercept treatment, respectively ( P >0.05)., Conclusion: Conbercept intravitreal injection leads to BCVA and CRT improvement, however, it does not significantly affect systemic serum VEGF-A, VEGF-B, and PLGF levels at 1 and 12mo after intravitreal injection treating neovascular AMD., (International Journal of Ophthalmology Press.)

The development of adsorbents with outstanding adsorption capacities, wide versatility, and excellent recyclability for the removal of organic dyes remains a challenge. In this study, a quaternised chitosan-based aerogel (QCSA) was fabricated via a facile method to effectively treat concomitant anionic dyes. Porous QCSA with high hydrophilicity, nontoxicity, excellent thermal stability, and sustainability exhibits adsorption properties superior to most previously reported adsorbents. The equilibrium adsorption capacities for Congo red, Sunset yellow, and Methyl orange were 1259.6, 550.2, and 607.5 mg/g, respectively. Notably, the spent QCSA exhibits excellent cyclic performance. The multilayer adsorption, external-internal mass transfer resistance, and adsorption on the active site models were employed to enable a more accurate description of the dynamic characteristics, confirming that double-layer chemisorption was the dominant process. A quantitative analysis of the electrostatic potential and the independent gradient model further verified that electrostatic interactions, hydrogen bonding, and van der Waals forces led to the highly efficient adsorption of dye molecules. Vanadium oxide incorporated mesoporous silica (V-m-SiO 2 ) were designed and synthesized using a surfactant-modified sol-gel method. Detailed characterization shows that monomeric [VO 4 ] sites containing one terminal V[double bond, length as m-dash]O bond and three V-O-support bonds are dominated until atomic ratio of vanadium to silicon approaches to 5%. It is also confirmed that such V-m-SiO 2 catalyst contains high proportion of vanadium oxide species interacting strongly with silica. Compared to vanadium oxide supported mesoporous silica (V/m-SiO 2 ) prepared using a traditional impregnation method, present V-m-SiO 2 catalyst exhibits more superior ability to catalyze oxidative dehydrogenation of propane to propylene. Ethnopharmacological Relevance: The rhizome of Curcuma wenyujin Y.H. Chen & C. Ling, also known as Wen-E-Zhu, has been used for cancer treatment since ancient times, with roots dating back to the Song Dynasty. Elemene (EE), a sesquiterpene extract with potent anticancer properties, is extracted from Wen-E-Zhu, with β-elemene (BE) being its main active compound, along with trace amounts of β-caryophyllene (BC), γ-elemene and δ-elemene isomers. EE has demonstrated broad-spectrum anti-cancer effects and is commonly used in clinical treatments for various types of malignant cancers, including lung cancer. Studies have shown that EE can arrest the cell cycle, inhibit cancer cell proliferation, and induce apoptosis and autophagy. However, the exact mechanism of its anti-lung cancer activity remains unclear and requires further research and investigation., Aim of the Study: In this study, the possible mechanism of EE and its main active components, BE and BC, against lung adenocarcinoma was investigated by using A549 and PC9 cell lines., Materials and Methods: The subcutaneous tumor model of nude mice was constructed to evaluate the efficacy of EE in vivo, then the in vitro half-inhibitory concentration (IC 50 ) of EE and its main active components, BE and BC, on A549 and PC9 cells at different concentrations were determined by CCK-8. Flow cytometry was used to detect the apoptosis and cycle of A549 and PC9 cells treated with different concentrations of BE and BC for 24 h. Non-targeted metabolomics analysis was performed on A549 cells to explore potential target pathways, which were subsequently verified through kit detection and western blot analysis., Results: Injection of EE in A549 tumor-bearing mice effectively suppressed cancer growth in vivo. The IC 50 of EE and its main active components, BE and BC, was around 60 μg/mL. Flow cytometry analysis showed that BE and BC blocked the G 2 /M and S phases of lung adenocarcinoma cells and induced apoptosis, leading to a significant reduction in mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP). Results from non-targeted metabolomics analysis indicated that the glutathione metabolism pathway in A549 cells was altered after treatment with the active components. Kit detection revealed a decrease in glutathione (GSH) levels and an increase in the levels of oxidized glutathione (GSSG) and reactive oxygen (ROS). Supplementation of GSH reduced the inhibitory activity of the active components on lung cancer and also decreased the ROS content of cells. Analysis of glutathione synthesis-related proteins showed a decrease in the expression of glutaminase, cystine/glutamate reverse transporter (SLC7A11), and glutathione synthase (GS), while the expression of glutamate cysteine ligase modified subunit (GCLM) was increased. In the apoptosis-related pathway, Bax protein and cleaved caspase-9/caspase-9 ratio were up-regulated and Bcl-2 protein was down-regulated., Conclusions: EE, BE, and BC showed significant inhibitory effects on the growth of lung adenocarcinoma cells, and the mechanism of action was linked to the glutathione system. Melanoidins are hazardous dark-coloured substances contained in molasses-based distillery wastewater. Adsorption is an effective approach to eliminate melanoidins from wastewater. However, melanoidin adsorption capacities of available adsorbents are unsatisfactory, which seriously limits their practical application. A hyperbranched polyethyleneimine-functionalised chitosan aerogel (HPCA) was fabricated as an effective adsorbent for melanoidin scavenging. HPCA demonstrated superior melanoidin adsorption efficiency because of its high specific surface area, abundant amino functional groups, and high hydrophilicity. Melanoidin removal rate of HPCA was 94.95%, which remained at 91.45% after 5 cycles. Notably, using the Langmuir isothermal model, the maximum melanoidin adsorption capacity of HPCA was determined to be 868.36 mg/g, surpassing those of most of previously reported adsorbents. Toxicity experiments indicated that HPCA can be considered a safe adsorbent with excellent biocompatibility that hardly threatens aquatic organisms. The efficient melanoidin removal of HPCA was attributed to electrostatic attraction, H-bonding, and van der Waals force. However, the adsorption might be predominantly controlled by electrovalent interaction between protonated amino groups of HPCA and carboxyl/carboxylate groups of melanoidins. The crucial need for quality refined sugar has led to the development of advanced adsorbents, with a focus on the decolorization of remelt syrup. In this study, (3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyl) trimethylammonium chloride and polyethyleneimine co-modified pomelo peel cellulose-derived aerogel (CP-PPA) was fabricated, and synthetic melanoidins were used as model colorants of remelt syrup to evaluate the validity and practicality of CP-PPA for eliminating colored impurities. Integrating abundant amine-functionalized groups (quaternary ammonium and protonated amine) within the pomelo peel-derived aerogel directionally captured electronegative melanoidins via electrostatic interactions. Furthermore, the active sites, types, and relative strength of the weak interactions between CP-PPA and melanoidins were determined using density functional theory simulations. CP-PPA exhibited an excellent equilibration adsorbing capacity for capturing melanoidins of 749.51 mg/g, and a removal efficiency of 93.69 %. Background: Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress plays a pro-apoptotic role in colorectal adenocarcinoma (COAD). This study aimed to develop a novel ER-stress-related prognostic risk model for COAD and provide support for COAD cohorts with different risk score responses to immune checkpoint inhibitor therapies. Methods: TCGA-COAD and GSE39582 were included in this prospective study. Univariate and multivariate Cox analyses were performed to identify prognostic ER stress-related genes (ERSGs). Accordingly, the immune infiltration landscape and immunotherapy response in different risk groups were assessed. Finally, the expression of prognostic genes in 10 normal and 10 COAD tissue samples was verified using reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Results: Eight prognostic genes were selected to establish an ERSG-based signature in the training set of the TCGA-COAD cohort. The accuracy of this was confirmed using a testing set of TCGA-COAD and GSE39582 cohorts. Gene set variation analysis indicated that differential functionality in high-low-risk groups was related to immune-related pathways. Corresponding to this, CD36 , TIMP1 , and PTGIS were significantly associated with 19 immune cells with distinct proportions between the different risk groups, such as central memory CD4T cells and central memory CD8T cells. Moreover, the risk score was considered effective for predicting the clinical response to immunotherapy, and the immunotherapy response was significantly and negatively correlated with the risk score of individuals with COAD. Furthermore, the immune checkpoint inhibitor treatment was less effective in the high-risk group, where the expression levels of PD-L1 and tumor immune dysfunction and exclusion scores in the high-risk group were significantly increased. Finally, the experimental results demonstrated that the expression trends of prognostic genes in clinical samples were consistent with the results from public databases. Brassica napus is an important crop for edible oil, vegetables, biofuel, and animal food. It is also an ornamental crop for its various petal colors. Flavonoids are a group of secondary metabolites with antioxidant activities and medicinal values, and are important to plant pigmentation, disease resistance, and abiotic stress responses. The yellow seed coat, purple leaf and inflorescence, and colorful petals of B. napus have been bred for improved nutritional value, tourism and city ornamentation. The putative loci and genes regulating flavonoid biosynthesis in B. napus have been identified using germplasms with various seed, petal, leaf, and stem colors, or different flavonoid contents under stress conditions. This review introduces the advances of flavonoid profiling, biosynthesis, and regulation during development and stress responses of B. napus , and hopes to help with the breeding of B. napus with better quality, ornamental value, and stress resistances.

In this study, novel green in situ quaternary-ammonium-functionalized magnetic chitosan microspheres (IQMCM) were synthesised. The resulting adsorbent was characterised by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, vibrating sample magnetometry, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and zeta potential analysis. The characterization results indicated that the IQMCMs possessed spherical morphology and superior specific thermal stability, magnetic properties, and surface charges. Batch adsorption experiments revealed that the adsorption capacities of the IQMCM microspheres to Congo red (CR) was 630.21 mg/g at a dosage of 0.15 g/L, temperature of 333 K, pH of 5.0, and initial dye concentration of 100 mg/L, and the corresponding removal rate reached 94.53 %. According to the kinetics, adsorption isotherms, and thermodynamics experiment results, the adsorption of CR dye coincided with a spontaneous endothermic monolayer chemisorption process. After saturated adsorption, this magnetic adsorbent could be rapidly separated from water and reused with little adsorption capacity loss. What Is Known and Objective: Olanzapine is an atypical antipsychotic drug used for mental disorders. There are limited studies providing sufficient pharmacokinetic data, thus the variability of concentrations of olanzapine used in Chinese paediatric patients aged 10 to 17 years remains to be evaluated., Methods: Therapeutic drug monitoring data were collected from 151 paediatric patients aged 10 to 17 years who received olanzapine. The model was developed with a NONMEM software program. The final model validation and evaluation were assessed by bootstrap, diagnostic scatter plots, and normalized prediction distribution error (NPDE). Regimens of different dosages were simulated to reach the target concentration levels of 20 ng/ml, by using the final model with typical parameters., Results: The one-compartment model was considered the best fit for the data. Typical estimates of the absorption rate constant (Ka), apparent clearance (CL/F), and apparent distribution volume (V/F) in the final model were 0.142 h -1 , 15.4 L/h, and 322 L, respectively. Sex and concomitant valproate (VPA) were included as significant predictors of olanzapine clearance, which was described by the following equation: CL/F = 15.4 × (1 + 0.546 × SEX) × (1 + 0.264 × VPA). Results of Monte-Carlo simulation suggested that male paediatric patients with concomitant VPA were advised to take no less than 15 mg per day of olanzapine orally, and in female paediatric patients with concomitant VPA, a dosing regimen of 10 mg may be sufficient to achieve the therapeutic range of olanzapine., What Is New and Conclusion: Our results identified concomitant valproate and sex as significant covariates in olanzapine population pharmacokinetics. Our model may be a useful tool for recommending dosage adjustments for physicians. γ-butyrolactone is a colorless transparent liquid used in the production of drugs such as cyclopropylamine and pyrrolidone, and is also used as an industrial solvent, diluent, curing agent, etc., and is listed as the third category of precursor chemicals control. There is less clinical exposure to γ-butyrolactone and insufficient studies on its withdrawal response. This article reports a case of severe life-threatening rhabdomyolysis in a patient with γ-butyrolactone withdrawal. After active treatment, the patient eventually recovered. The clinical characteristics and treatment methods of γ-butyrolactone withdrawal reaction were summarized, suggesting that severe withdrawal reaction may occur in γ-butyrolactone.

Zanthoxylum armatum , its peels possessed better special flavour, as well as various bioactivities, such as anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and anti-tumour. In our chemical investigation on the peels of Z. armatum , two new lignans ( 1 and 2 ) and three known lignans ( 3 - 5 ) were isolated by silica gel column chromatography, ODS column and preparative HPLC and their structures were established as zanthlignans A and B ( 1-2 ), (-)-asarinin ( 3 ), phylligenin ( 4 ) and planispine A ( 5 ) through various spectroscopic techniques including UV, IR, HR-ESI-MS, NMR and CD methods.

A joint determination of the reactor antineutrino spectra resulting from the fission of ^{235}U and ^{239}Pu has been carried out by the Daya Bay and PROSPECT Collaborations. This Letter reports the level of consistency of ^{235}U spectrum measurements from the two experiments and presents new results from a joint analysis of both data sets. The measurements are found to be consistent. The combined analysis reduces the degeneracy between the dominant ^{235}U and ^{239}Pu isotopes and improves the uncertainty of the ^{235}U spectral shape to about 3%. The ^{235}U and ^{239}Pu antineutrino energy spectra are unfolded from the jointly deconvolved reactor spectra using the Wiener-SVD unfolding method, providing a data-based reference for other reactor antineutrino experiments and other applications. This is the first measurement of the ^{235}U and ^{239}Pu spectra based on the combination of experiments at low- and highly enriched uranium reactors.

One of the most frequent malignancies in the head and neck is nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). MicroRNAs, a kind of tiny noncoding RNA molecule, have been used as negative regulators in different types of cancer therapy in recent decades by downregulating their targets. Recent research suggests that microRNAs play an important role in cancer's epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT), supporting or inhibiting EMT development. The epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is linked to a variety of cancer-related activities, including growth, metastasis, and invasion. Previous research has linked EMT to cancer stem-like characteristics as well as treatment resistance. Moreover, since microRNAs (miRNAs) are important regulators of the EMT phenotype, certain miRNAs have an effect on cancer stemness and treatment resistance. As a result, both fundamental research and clinical therapy benefit from knowing the connection between EMT-associated miRNAs and cancer stemness/drug resistance. As a result, we looked at the different functions that EMT-associated miRNAs (miR-137) play in the stem-like characteristics of malignant cells in this article. Then we looked at how EMT-associated miRNAs interact with nasopharyngeal cancer's drug-resistant complex signaling pathways. Using qRT-PCR, we evaluated the performance of several micro RNAs with the proposed miR-137 for inhibiting invasion, metastasis, and the EMT process. Objective: To investigate the prognostic value of metabolic parameters of 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose ( 18 F-FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL)., Methods: The clinical data of 58 patients with DLBCL who were examined by 18 F-FDG PET/CT before treatment and confirmed by pathology were analyzed retrospectively. The relationships between maximum standardized uptake value (SUV max ), metabolic tumor volume (MTV), total lesion glycolysis (TLG) and clinical factors were analyzed. Kaplan Meier method, Log-rank test and multivariate Cox regression were used to analyze the relationships between metabolic SUV max , MTV, TLG and times of total overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS)., Results: The SUV max , MTV and TLG of 58 DLBCL patients were 21.45 (10.26-42.38), 27.30 (14.20-133.25) cm 3 and 322.85 (47.35-1438.20), respectively. Univariate analysis showed that large mass, Ann Arbor stage, international prognostic index, MTV and TLG were the factors influencing OS and PFS in DLBCL patients (P<0.05), while lactate dehydrogenase and SUV max were the factors influencing PFS only (P<0.05). Multivariate analysis showed that MTV (HR=2.974, 95%CI: 1.803-7.225)/(HR=3.925, 95%CI: 1.973-8.246) and TLG (HR=2.583, 95%CI: 1.192-5.316)/(HR=2.874, 95%CI: 1.538-6.483) were independent risk factors for OS and PFS in DLBCL patients (P<0.05), and international prognostic index (HR=2.490, 95%CI: 1.150-4.962) was independent risk factor for OS in DLBCL patients (P<0.05)., Conclusion: MTV and TLG are independent risk factors for OS and PFS in patients with DLBCL, which may be valuable for prognosis of patients with DLBCL.

Two undescribed sesamin-type sesquilignans ptehoosines A (1) and B (2), together with 4 known lignans (3-6), were isolated from Pterocephalus hookeri (C.B. Clarke) Höeck which was widely used as traditional Tibetan medicine for treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. Their structures were determined by HR-ESI-MS, NMR analysis and CD experiment. The in vitro antiangiogenic effect of all isolated compounds against human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were evaluated by CCK-8 assay. Among them, compound 1 exhibited significant proliferative inhibition on HUVECs with IC 50 value of 32.82 ± 0.99 μM. Further in vitro study indicated 1 could arrest cell cycle at G0/G1 phase and reduce the migration of HUVECs. In vivo experiment exhibited 1 could inhibit tail vessels plexus in zebrafish. Background: Due to the diversity of the ingredients, the complexity of the mechanism of action, the uncertainty of the effective ingredients, coupled with the multiple species and multiple growing areas, the quality control (QC) of Traditional Chinese Medicines (TCMs) is challenging. Discovering and identifying effective compounds from the complex extracts of TCMs and then establishing a scientific QC method is the key to the holistic QC of TCMs., Purpose: To develop an anti-lung-cancer-guided spectrum-effect relationship approach for the discovery of QC markers of the rhizome of Curcuma wenyujin (WEZ) and establish a bioactive compounds-based holistic QC method., Methods: The chemical profiling of the volatile oil (WVO) from 42 batches of WEZ collected from different growing areas was performed by GC-MS. The anti-lung cancer activity of different WVO samples was determined by CCK-8 assay against human lung cancer cells (A549). The apoptosis and cell cycle analysis under different concentrations of WVO were detected by flow cytometry. SIMCA-P software was used to perform multivariate statistical analysis on the chemical composition of different WVO samples and to find the different components. Active compounds were screened using a PLSR model of the spectrum-effect relationship. Bioactive compounds-based fingerprint and quantification of the leading bioactive compounds were developed by GC-MS and GC-FID, respectively., Results: Seventy-eight compounds were detected in WVO and 54 were successfully identified. The multivariate statistical analysis uncovered that WVO components and the anti-A549 activity of WVO at the concentration of 60 nl/ml differ greatly according to the origin of the plant. The WVO at the concentration of 60 nl/ml (IC 50 ) increased A549 cells apoptosis significantly with late and early apoptosis of 15.61% and 7.80%, and the number of cells in the G2/M phase were also increased significantly under this concentration. The spectrum-effect relationship analysis revealed that 44 compounds were positively correlated with their activities, and the result was verified by A549 cell viability assay. Sixteen positively correlated compounds were further selected as QC markers according to their relative amount > 0.5% and anticancer activity. Finally, the 16 QC markers-based GC-MS fingerprint was established to holistically control the quality of WEZ, and a GC-FID method was developed for the quantification of leading bioactive compounds, β-elemene and β-caryophyllene., Conclusion: Based on an anti-lung-cancer-guided spectrum-effect relationship approach, the bioactive compounds-based holistic QC method was successfully developed for WEZ, which could provide a valuable reference for the QC of TCMs., (Copyright © 2021 Elsevier GmbH. Quercetin and crocin are the main active constituents of Eucommia and Gardenia species, respectively. This study was conducted to explore the effects of quercetin and crocin on fat reduction and renal fibrosis and the relationship of these compounds with autophagy. First, a model of high-fat diet- and streptozotocin-induced type 2 diabetes was established and then subjected model animals to 8 weeks of metformin, quercetin and crocin gavage. Then, a high glucose-induced rat mesangial cells (RMCs) model was established, and these cells were cocultured with quercetin and crocin. The results showed that quercetin and crocin can decrease fasting blood glucose levels, reduce fat accumulation in the liver, alleviate renal fibrosis, and reduce blood lipid levels. Quercetin and crocin increased autophagy-related protein (LC3, Atg5, Beclin-1 and p-AMPK) levels in the liver and decreased autophagy-related protein (LC3, Atg5, Beclin-1 and p-AMPK) levels in the kidneys. Moreover, quercetin and crocin inhibited the excessive proliferation of RMCs induced by high-glucose (HG) conditions, decreased autophagy-related protein (LC3, Atg5, Beclin-1 and p-AMPK) levels, and decreased TGF-β1 expression. Importantly, cotreatment with quercetin and crocin had a more significant effect than treatment with either compound alone. These results suggest that combined administration of quercetin and crocin can more significantly reduce blood glucose/lipid levels and improve renal fibrosis than administration of either compound alone and that AMPK-dependent autophagy might be involved in this process. Eucommia ulmoides Oliv. and Gardenia could be developed as drugs for Type 2 diabetes treatment.
