We investigated the ionised and atomic gas kinematics and excitation state in the central region of ongoing star formation of the nearby low-metallicity dwarf galaxy Sextans B. The analysis is based on the new observations performed in Ha emission line with high resolution ($R \sim 16000$) scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer at the 6-m BTA SAO RAS telescope, and on the long-slit spectral observations at the 9.2-m SALT and 2.5-m CMO SAI MSU telescopes. Strong non-circular gas motions detected in the studied regions probably resulted from the off-plane gas motions and impact of stellar feedback. We identified six regions of elevated Ha velocity dispersion, five of which exhibit asymmetric or two-component Ha line profiles. Three of these regions are young ($<1.1$ Myr) expanding ($V_{\rm exp} \sim 25-50\ {\rm km\ s^{-1}}$) superbubbles. We argue that at least three regions in the galaxy could be supernova remnants. We conclude that supernovae feedback is the dominant source of energy for superbubbles in Sextans B, which is expected for such a low metallicity, although we cannot rule out a strong impact of pre-supernova feedback for one superbubble., Comment: 16 pages, 6+6 figures, 4 tables. submitted to MNRAS after revision

We present observations of the vdB 130 cluster vicinity in a narrow-band filter centered at a $2.12\,\mu$m molecular hydrogen line performed at the Caucasus Mountain Observatory of the Lomonosov Moscow State University. The observations reveal an H$_2$ emission shell around vdB 130, coincident with a bright infrared shell, visible in all \textit{Spitzer} bands. Also, numerous H$_{2}$ emission features are detected around infrared Blobs E and W and in the vicinity of a protocluster located to the east of the shell, in a tail of a cometary molecular cloud. H$_2$ emission in the vicinity of the vdB~130 cluster is mostly generated in well-developed \HII\ regions and is of fluorescent nature. In the protocluster area, isolated spots are observed, where H$_2$ emission is collisionally excited and is probably related to shocks in protostellar outflows. Obtained results are discussed in the context of possible sequential star formation in the vicinity of the vdB 130 cluster, triggered by the interaction of the expanding supershell surrounding the Cyg OB1 association with the molecular cloud and an associated molecular filament., Comment: Accepted by Astrophysical Bulletin

Feedback from massive stars shapes the ISM and affects the evolution of galaxies, but its mechanisms acting at the small scales ($\sim 10$ pc) are still not well constrained observationally, especially in the low-metallicity environments. We present the analysis of the ionized gas (focusing on its kinematics, which were never studied before), and its connection to the massive stars in the nearby ($D \sim 1.4$ Mpc) star-forming very metal-poor ($Z\sim 0.07 Z_\odot$) galaxy Sextans A. The analysis is based on the observations with a scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer, long-slit spectroscopy and imaging in emission lines with narrow-band tunable filters. We found 10 expanding superbubbles of ionized gas with ages of 1-3 Myr. We argue that 3 of them are probable supernovae remnants, while the pre-supernovae feedback is an important source of energy for blowing-out the remaining superbubbles. The two brightest sites of star formation exhibit signs of outflowing ionized gas, which is traced by its ionized and atomic gas kinematics and (in one case) by its emission line flux ratios. Overall, the ionized gas kinematics in Sextans A is highly affected by the feedback from several generations of massive stars and inconsistent with the mere solid-body rotation observed in atomic hydrogen., Comment: 19 pages, 12 figures, 5 tables. We present the results of a multiwavelength study of the nearby dwarf galaxy DDO 53 - a relatively isolated member of the M 81 group. We analyse the atomic and ionised gas kinematics (based on the observations with Fabry-Perot interferometer in H$\alpha$ line and archival data in HI 21 cm line), distribution, excitation and oxygen abundance of the ionised gas (based on the long-slit and integral-field spectroscopy and on imaging with narrow-band filters), and their relation with the young massive stars (based on archival HST data). We detect a faint 2-kpc sized supershell of ionised gas surrounding the galaxy. Most probably, this structure represents a large-scale gas outflow, however it could be also created by the ionising quanta leaking from star-forming regions to the marginally detected atomic hydrogen surrounding the galactic disc. We analyse the properties of the anomalous HI in the north part of the galaxy and find that its peculiar kinematics is also traced by ionised gas. We argue that this HI feature is related to the accreting gas cloud captured from the intergalactic medium or remaining after the merger event occurred >1 Gyr ago. The infalling gas produces shocks in the interstellar medium and could support the star formation activity in the brightest region in DDO 53., Comment: 20 pages, 13 figures, 4 tables. Context: GR290 (M33 V0532=Romano's star) is a luminous M33 object undergoing photometric variability typical for luminous blue variable (LBV) stars. It lies inside Wolf-Rayet region in the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram and possesses a WN8 type spectrum at the light minima. Analysis of Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC) spectra obtained in 2016 led to the conclusion that it is surrounded by an unresolved HII region formed mostly of ejected material from the central star, and disclosed the presence of a second, more extended asymmetrical emission region. Aims: The aim of this paper is to further explore the structure of the nearby environment of GR290. Methods: Long-slit spectra of GR290 were obtained with three slit orientations in the visual and red spectral regions. The emission-line distribution for each slit was analyzed. Results: We confirm the presence of an asymmetric HII region that extends ~50 pc to the south; ~30pc to the north and southeast; ~20 pc to the east and northwest and ~10pc to the west. We also present the first spectrum to be acquired of a star belonging to the neighboring OB88 association, J013501.87+304157.3, which we classify as a B-type supergiant with a possible binary companion., Comment: 11 pages, 10 figures, accepted for publication in A&A

We conducted an observation of the nearby irregular galaxy IC 1613 with the Chandra X-ray Observatory using the S3 chip of the ACIS with an effective exposure time of 49.9 ksec. The observation primarily targeted the extensive bubble and star formation region in the northeast quadrant of the galaxy. The only known supernova remnant (SNR) in IC 1613, S8, is also the galaxy's most luminous X-ray source (L_X (0.3-8 keV) ~5-6x10^{36} erg/s). We resolve the SNR with Chandra and compare its nearly circular X-ray morphology with Halpha and radio images. We assign an upper limit on the luminosity of any possible associated compact central object of ~4x10^{35}$ erg/s (0.3-8 keV band) and conclude that we would detect a Crab-like pulsar but not a Cas A-like object. We infer an age for S8 of ~3400-5600 years and compare it to other SNRs in the Local Group. We suggest that S8 is a young composite SNR., Comment: accepted 2019 July 18 for AJ

We present an observational study of small-scale feedback processes operating in the star-forming region located in the wall of the expanding supershell around the Cyg OB1 association. The interstellar gas and dust content and pre-stellar populations in the vicinity of the open star cluster vdB 130 are analysed based on new optical and IR observations performed with the 6-m (3D spectroscopic mapping in the [SII] doublet) and 2.5-m (optical and NIR images) Russian telescopes along with the archival data of Spitzer and Herschel space telescopes. Analysing ionized gas kinematics and emission spectra, we discovered a compact region with supersonic motions. These motions may be caused either by stellar wind, or a bipolar outflow from a protostellar disc. Young stellar objects were identified and classified in the area under study. Two star-forming regions were identified. We present the results of observations of the galaxy Holmberg I carried out at the Russian 6-m telescope in the narrow-band imaging, long-slit spectroscopy, and scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer modes. A detailed analysis of gas kinematics, ionization conditions, and metallicity of star-forming regions in the galaxy is presented. The aim of the paper is to analyse the propagation of star formation in the galaxy and to understand the role of the ongoing star formation in the evolution of the central 'galaxy-sized' supergiant HI shell (SGS), where all regions of star formation are observed. We show that star formation in the galaxy occurs in large unified complexes rather than in individual giant HII regions. Evidence of the triggered star formation is observed both on scales of individual complexes and of the whole galaxy. We identified two supernova-remnant candidates and one late-type WN star and analysed their spectrum and surrounding-gas kinematics. We analyse the structure and kinematics of ionized gas in the vicinity of the ultraluminous X-ray source (ULX) HoII X-1 in the Holmberg II galaxy using observational data obtained with a scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer in the H$\alpha$, [SII] and [OIII] emission lines at the Russian 6-m telescope. Decomposition of the line profiles allows us to identify the broad component of emission lines caused by the ULX action. We found evidence of an expanding superbubble around the young star cluster located in the studied region. We conclude that the blue-shifted 'arc' around the ULX observed in the line-of-sight velocity field may correspond to a bow shock caused by the ULX movement from that nearby young star cluster. We report a detailed analysis of all regions of current star formation in the walls of the supergiant HI shell (SGS) in the galaxy Holmberg II based on observations with a scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer at the 6-m SAO RAS telescope. We compare the structure and kinematics of ionized gas with that of atomic hydrogen and with the stellar population of the SGS. Our deep H$\alpha$ images and archival images taken by the HST demonstrate that current star formation episodes are larger and more complicated than previously thought: they represent unified star-forming complexes with sizes of several hundred pc rather than 'chains' of separate bright nebulae in the walls of the SGS. The fact that we are dealing with unified complexes is evidenced by identified faint shell-like structures of ionized and neutral gas which connect several distinct bright HII regions. Formation of such complexes is due to the feedback of stars with very inhomogeneous ambient gas in the walls of the SGS. The arguments supporting an idea about the triggering of star formation in SGS by the HI supershells collision are presented. We also found a faint ionized supershell inside the HI SGS expanding with a velocity of no greater than 10-15 km/s. Five OB stars located inside the inner supershell are sufficient to account for its radiation, although a possibility of leakage of ionizing photons from bright HII regions is not ruled out as well., Comment: 23 pages, 14 figures, 4 tables. We considered the regions of triggered star formation inside kpc-sized HI supershells in three dwarf galaxies: IC 1613, IC 2574 and Holmberg II. The ionized and neutral gas morphology and kinematics were studied based on our observations with scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer at the SAO RAS 6-m telescope and 21 cm archival data of THINGS and LITTLE THINGS surveys. The qualitative analysis of the observational data performed in order to highlight the two questions: why the star formation occurred very locally in the supershells, and how the ongoing star formation in HI supershells rims influence its evolution? Stellar population and the interstellar gas-dust medium in the vicinity of the open star cluster vdB 130 are analysed using optical observations taken with the 6-m telescope of the SAO RAS and the 125-cm telescope of the SAI MSU along with the data of Spitzer and Herschel. Based on proper motions and BV and JHKs 2MASS photometric data, we select additional 36 stars as probable cluster members. Some stars in vdB 130 are classified as B stars. Our estimates of minimum colour excess, apparent distance modulus and the distance are consistent with young age (from 5 to 10 Myrs) of the cluster vdB 130. We suppose the large deviations from the conventional extinction law in the cluster direction, with $R_V$ ~ 4 - 5. The cluster vdB 130 appears to be physically related to the supershell around Cyg OB1, a cometary CO cloud, ionized gas, and regions of infrared emission. There are a few regions of bright mid-infrared emission in the vicinity of vdB 130. The largest of them is also visible on H-alpha and [SII] emission maps. We suggest that the infrared blobs that coincide in projection with the head of the molecular cloud are HII regions, excited by the cluster B-stars. We present an analysis of optical spectroscopy and infrared aperture photometry of more than 100 H II complexes in nine galaxies. Spectra obtained with the 6-m telescope of SAO RAS are used along with archival data from Spitzer and several ground-based telescopes to infer a strength of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) emission, age, properties of the UV radiation field, and metallicity of studied H II complexes. Physical properties (age, radiation field parameters, metallicity) are related to the $F_{8}/F_{24}$ ratio used as a proxy for the PAH abundance in order to reveal factors that may influence the PAH evolution in H II complexes. The well-known correlation between the $F_{8}/F_{24}$ ratio and metallicity is confirmed in the studied complexes. The infrared flux ratio also correlates with the [O III]$\lambda 5007/\mathrm{H\beta}$ ratio which is often considered as an indicator of the radiation field hardness, but this correlation seems to be a mere reflection of a correlation between [O III]$\lambda 5007/\mathrm{H\beta}$ and metallicity. In separate metallicity bins, the $F_{8}/F_{24}$ ratio is found to correlate with an age of an H II complex, which is estimated from the equivalent width of $\mathrm{H}\beta$ line. The correlation is positive for low metallicity complexes and negative for high metallicity complexes. Analysing various mechanisms of PAH formation and destruction in the context of found correlations, we suggest that PAH abundance is likely altered by the UV radiation within H II complexes, but this is not necessarily due to their destruction. If PAHs can also form in H II complexes due to some processes like aromatisation, photodestruction, shattering and sputtering of very small grains, the net $F_{8}/F_{24}$ ratio is determined by a balance between all these processes that can be different at different metallicities., Comment: Accepted to MNRAS

A detailed photometric study of star-forming regions (SFRs) in the galaxy Holmberg II has been carried out using archival observational data from the far infrared to ultraviolet obtained with the GALEX, Spitzer, and Herschel telescopes. Spectroscopic observations with the 6-m telescope of Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences are used to estimate ages and metallicities of SFRs. For the first time, the ages of SFRs have been related to their emission parameters in a wide spectral range and with the physical parameters determined by fitting the observed spectra. It is shown that fluxes at 8 and 24 micron characterizing the emission of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and hot dust grains decrease with age, but their ratio increases. This implies that the relative PAH contribution to the total infrared flux increases with age. It is suggested that the detected increase in the ratio of the fluxes at 8 and 24 micron is related to the growth in the PAH mass due to destruction of larger grains., Comment: 15 pages, 8 figures, 3 tables. We analyse the ionized gas kinematics in the star formation regions of the supergiant shell (SGS) of the IC 2574 galaxy using observations with the Fabry-Perot interferometer at the 6-m telescope of SAO RAS; the data of the THINGS survey are used to analyze the neutral gas kinematics in the area. We perform the 'derotation' of the H-alpha and HI data cubes and show its efficiency in kinematics analysis. We confirm the SGS expansion velocity 25 km/s obtained by Walter & Brinks (1999) and conclude that the SGS is located at the far side of the galactic disc plane. We determine the expansion velocities, kinematic ages, and the required mechanical energy input rates for four star formation complexes in the walls of the SGS; for the remaining ones we give the limiting values of the above parameters. A comparison with the age and energy input of the complexes' stellar population shows that sufficient energy is fed to all HII regions except one. We discuss in detail the possible nature of this region and that of another one, which was believed to be an SNR according to radio observations. We measured the expansion velocity of the latter and confirm its identification as an old SNR. The interstellar medium in the region of a family of cometary globules including the reflection nebula GM 2-39 has been analyzed basing on our observations with the slit spectrograph, the results of our previous observations with a Fabry-Perot interferometer in the H-alpha line, Spitzer archival data together with CO microwave data. The structure of globules' IR emission, velocity field of ionized gas in the H-alpha line and of molecular gas in the CO line have been considered. We have detected a CO cavern around the eastern globules and faint high-velocity H-alpha features of surrounding gas. The most probable sources of ionizing radiation and wind of the Cyg OB1 association responsible for the globules' formation are proposed. Based on our multicolour photometry, it has been found that the brightest compact source in the southern 'head' of the cometary globule - the star HBHA 3703-01 (IRAS 20153+3850) - is a B(5-6)V star with E(B-V)=1.18 mag. The strong and broad H-alpha emission line was revealed in its spectrum. The spectral energy distribution of HBHA 3703-01 in the 0.44-24 micron range has been modeled. It is shown that the star has a hot dust envelope with T(dust)=1400 K and tau(V)=1.1. Besides, the star HBHA 3703-01 illuminates the encompassing diffuse nebula GM 2-39 with a diameter of about 30 arcsec. We study the ionized gas spectrum of star forming regions in the Holmberg II galaxy using the optical long-slit spectroscopic observations made at the 6-m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SAO RAS). We estimate the oxygen, nitrogen, sulphur, neon, and argon abundances in individual HII regions and find the average metallicity in the galaxy to be Z=0.1 or 0.3 Zsun depending on the estimation method employed. We use these observations combined with the results of our earlier studies of the Irr galaxy IC 10 and BCD galaxy VII Zw 403 to compare the currently most popular methods of gas metallicity estimation in order to select among them the techniques that are most reliable for analysing Irr galaxies. To this end, we use the "direct" Te method and six empirical and theoretical methods. The results of our observations mostly confirm the conclusions of Lopez-Sanchez et al. (2012) based on the analysis of systematic deviations of metallicity estimates derived by applying different methods to "model" HII regions., Comment: 17 pages, 8 figures, 4 tables. We present the results of ionized gas turbulent motions study in several nearby dwarf galaxies using a scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer with the 6-m telescope of the SAO RAS. Combining the `intensity-velocity dispersion' diagrams (I-sigma) with two-dimensional maps of radial velocity dispersion we found a number of common patterns pointing to the relation between the value of chaotic ionized gas motions and processes of current star formation. In five out of the seven analysed galaxies we identified expanding shells of ionized gas with diameters of 80-350 pc and kinematic ages of 1-4 Myr. We also demonstrate that the I-sigma diagrams may be useful for the search of supernova remnants, other small expanding shells or unique stars in nearby galaxies. As an example, a candidate luminous blue variable (LBV) was found in UGC 8508. We propose some additions to the interpretation, previously used by Munoz-Tunon et al. to explain the I-sigma diagrams for giant star formation regions. In the case of dwarf galaxies, a major part of the regions with high velocity dispersion belongs to the diffuse low surface brightness emission, surrounding the star forming regions. We attribute this to the presence of perturbed low density gas with high values of turbulent velocities around the giant HII regions., Comment: 21 pages, 8 figures. Accepted by MNRAS.
