The quest to reveal the physical essence of the infinitely many symmetries and conservation laws that are intrinsic to integrable systems has historically posed a significant challenge at the confluence of physics and mathematics. This scholarly investigation delves into five open problems related to these boundless symmetries within integrable systems by scrutinizing their multi-wave solutions, employing a fresh analytical methodology. For a specified integrable system, there exist various categories of $n$-wave solutions. Each sub-wave comprising the $n$-wave solution may possess free parameters, including center, width, and periodic parameters. It is evident that these solutions are translation invariant with respect to all these free parameters. We postulate that the entirety of the recognized infinite symmetries merely constitute linear combinations of these finite wave parameter translation symmetries. The conjecture intimates that the currently known infinitely many symmetries are not exhaustive, and an indeterminate number of symmetries remain to be discovered. This conjecture further indicates that by imposing an infinite array of symmetry constraints, it becomes feasible to derive exact multi-wave solutions. By considering the renowned KdV equation and the Burgers equation as simple examples, the conjecture is substantiated for the $n$-soliton solutions. It is unequivocal that any linear combination of the wave parameter translation symmetries retains its status as a symmetry associated with the particular solution. This observation suggests that by introducing a ren-variable and a ren-symmetric derivative which serve as generalizations of the Grassmann variable and the super derivative, it may be feasible to unify classical integrable systems, supersymmetric integrable systems, and ren-symmetric integrable systems within a cohesive hierarchical framework.

Dark equations are defined as some kinds of integrable couplings with some fields being homogeneously and linearly coupled to others. In this paper, dark equations are extended in several aspects. Taking the Korteweg-de Vrise (KdV) equation as an example, the dark KdV systems are extended to nonhomogenous forms, nonlinear couplings and graded linear cases. The two-component nonhomogeneous linear coupled dark KdV systems are completely classified. The nonlinear coupled dark KdV systems may be obtained through the decompositions from higher dimensional integrable systems like the B-type KP equation. Graded linear coupled dark KdV systems may be produced by introducing dark parameters (including the Grassmann parameters) to usual integrable systems. Especially, applying the bosonization approach to the integrable systems with fermion fields such as the supersymmetric integrable systems and super-integrable models, infinitely many graded linear dark systems can be generated. Finally, the dark KdV systems are extended to supersymmetric ones. Integrable systems constitute an essential part of modern physics. Traditionally, to approve a model is integrable one has to find its infinitely many symmetries or conserved quantities. In this letter, taking the well known Korteweg-de Vries and Boussinesq equations as examples, we show that it is enough to find only one nonlocal key-symmetry to guarantee the integrability. Starting from the nonlocal key-symmetry, recursion operator(s) and then infinitely many symmetries and Lax pairs can be successfully found., Comment: 6 pages

A new type of symmetry, ren-symmetry describing anyon physics and the corresponding topological physics, is proposed. Ren-symmetry is a generalization of super-symmetry which is widely applied in super-symmetric physics such as the super-symmetric quantum mechanics, super-symmetric gravity, super-symmetric string theory, super-symmetric integrable systems and so on. The super-symmetry and Grassmann-number are, in some sense, the dual conceptions, which turns out that these conceptions coincide for the ren situation, that is, a similar conception of ren-number is devised to ren-symmetry. In particular, some basic results of the ren-number and ren-symmetry are exposed which allow one to derive, in principle, some new types of integrable systems including ren-integrable models and ren-symmetric integrable systems. The derivation of nonlinear integrable evolution partial differential equations in higher dimensions has always been the holy grail in the field of integrability. The well-known modified KdV equation is a prototypical example of integrable evolution equations in one spatial dimension. Do there exist integrable analogs of modified KdV equation in higher spatial dimensions? In what follows, we present a positive answer to this question. In particular, rewriting the (1+1)-dimensional integrable modified KdV equation in conservation forms and adding deformation mappings during the process allow one to construct higher dimensional integrable equations. Further, we illustrate this idea with examples from the modified KdV hierarchy, also present the Lax pairs of these higher dimensional integrable evolution equations., Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures

Utilizing some conservation laws of (1+1)-dimensional integrable local evolution systems, it is conjectured that higher dimensional integrable equations may be regularly constructed by a deformation algorithm. The algorithm can be applied to Lax pairs and higher order flows. In other words, if the original lower dimensional model is Lax integrable (possesses Lax pairs) and symmetry integrable (possesses infinitely many higher order symmetries), then the deformed higher order systems are also Lax integrable and symmetry integrable. For concreteness, the deformation algorithm is applied to the usual (1+1)-dimensional KdV equation and the (1+1)-dimensional AKNS system (including nonlinear NLS equation as a special example). It is interesting that the deformed (3+1)-dimensional KdV equation is also an extension of the (1+1)-dimensional Harry-Dym (HD) type equations which are reciprocal links of the (1+1)-dimensional KdV equation. The Lax pairs of the (3+1)-dimensional KdV-HD system and the (2+1)-dimensional AKNS system are explicitly given. The higher order symmetries, i.e., the whole (3+1)-dimensional KdV-HD hierarchy, are also explicitly obtained via the deformation algorithm. The single soliton solution of the (3+1)-dimensional KdV-HD equation is implicitly given. Because of the effects of the deformation, the symmetric soliton shape of the usual KdV equation is no longer conserved and deformed to be asymmetric and/or multi-valued. The deformation conjecture is correct for almost all the known (1+1)-dimensional integrable local evolution systems and we have not yet found any counter-example so far. The introduction of a large number of (D+1)-dimensional integrable systems of this paper explores a serious challenge to all mathematicians and theoretical physicists because the traditional methods are no longer directly valid to solve these integrable equations., Comment: 9 pages 3 figures

In this paper, we define the modified formal variable separation approach and show how it determines, in a remarkably simple manner, the decomposition solutions, the B\"acklund transformations, the Lax pair, and the linear superposition solution of the B-type Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation. Also, the decomposition solutions, the B\"acklund transformation and the Lax pair relating to the C-type Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation is obtain by the same technique. This indicates that the decomposition may provide a description of integrable behavior in nonlinear systems, while, at the same time, establishing an efficient method for determining relationships between the particular systems.

The existence of decompositions of the nonlinear integrable systems not only permits us to establish so-called linear superposition solutions but also to derive new nonlinear integrable coupled systems. Restricting our attention to the single component decompositions of the potential BKP hierarchy, we obtain that suitable linear superpositions of some decomposition solutions still satisfy the same equations. In parallel, successful attempts are made by multi-component decompositions of the potential BKP hierarchy to construct linear superposition solutions and new nonlinear integrable coupled KdV-type systems that a change of dependent variables cannot decouple., Comment: 17 pages, 0 figures

Evidently, the linear superposition principle can not be exactly established as a general principle in the presence of nonlinearity, and, at the first glance, there is no expectation for it to hold even approximately. In this letter, it is shown that the balance of different nonlinear effects describes what linear superpositions may occur in nonlinear systems. The heavenly equations are of significance in several scientific fields, especially in relativity, gravity, field theory, and fluid dynamics. A special type of implicit shock wave solution with three two-dimensional arbitrary functions of the general heavenly equation is revealed. Restrict the two-dimensional arbitrary functions to some types of one-dimensional arbitrary functions, it is found that the nonlinear effects can be balanced such that the "impossible" linear superposition solutions can be nontrivially constituted to new solutions of the general heavenly equation., Comment: 4pages

In additional to the parity ($\mathcal{P}$) symmetric, time reversal ($\mathcal{T}$) symmetric, and $\mathcal{PT}$ symmetric nonlocal integrable systems, some other types of nonlocal integrable Klein-Gordon models with the space-time exchange nonlocality and the moving nolocality are proposed. The Lax pairs of the established nonlinear nonlocal Klein-Gordon equations are explicitly given. A special soliton solution, composed of $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric part and $\mathcal{PT}$-antisymmetric part, is illustrated with the shape change.

The existence of decomposition solutions of the well-known nonlinear BKP hierarchy is explored. It is shown that these decompositions provide simple and interesting relationships between classical integrable systems and the BKP hierarchy. Further, some special decomposition solutions display a rare property: they can be linearly superposed. With the emphasis on the case of the fifth BKP equation, the structure characteristic having linear superposition solutions is analyzed. It is shown that the relativistic invariance plays a key role in the study of integrable systems. Using the relativistically invariant sine-Gordon equation, the Tzitzeica equation, the Toda fields and the second heavenly equation as dual relations, some continuous and discrete integrable positive hierarchies such as the potential modified Korteweg-de Vries hierarchy, the potential Fordy-Gibbons hierarchies, the potential dispersionless Kadomtsev-Petviashvili-like (dKPL) hierarchy, the differential-difference dKPL hierarchy and the second heavenly hierarchies are converted to the integrable negative hierarchies including the sG hierarchy and the Tzitzeica hierarchy, the two-dimensional dispersionless Toda hierarchy, the two-dimensional Toda hierarchies and negative heavenly hierarchy. In (1+1)-dimensional cases the positive/negative hierarchy dualities are guaranteed by the dualities between the recursion operators and their inverses. In (2+1)-dimensional cases, the positive/negative hierarchy dualities are explicitly shown by using the formal series symmetry approach, the mastersymmetry method and the relativistic invariance of the duality relations. For the 4-dimensional heavenly system, the duality problem is studied firstly by formal series symmetry approach. In linear science, the wave motion equation with general D'Alembert wave solutions is one of the fundamental models. The D'Alembert wave is an arbitrary travelling wave moving along one direction under a fixed model (material) dependent velocity. However, the D'Alembert waves are missed when nonlinear effects are introduced to wave motions. In this paper, we study the possible travelling wave solutions, multiple soliton solutions and soliton molecules for a special (2+1)-dimensional Koteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation, the so-called Nizhnik-Novikov-Veselov (NNV) equation. The missed D'Alembert wave is re-discovered from the NNV equation. By using the velocity resonance mechanism, the soliton molecules are found to be closely related to D'Alembert waves. In fact, the soliton molecules of the NNV equation can be viewed as special D'Alembert waves. The interaction solutions among special D'Alembert type waves ($n$-soliton molecules and soliton-solitoff molecules) and solitons are also discussed., Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures

The Painlev\'e property for a (2+1)-dimensional Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) extension, the combined KP3 (Kadomtsev- Petviashvili) and KP4 (cKP3-4) is proved by using Kruskal's simplification. The truncated Painlev\'e expansion is used to find the Schwartz form, the B\"acklund/Levi transformations and the residual nonlocal symmetry. The residual symmetry is localized to find its finite B\"acklund transformation. The local point symmetries of the model constitute a centerless Kac-Moody-Virasoro algebra. The local point symmetries are used to find the related group invariant reductions including a new Lax integrable model with a fourth order spectral problem. The finite transformation theorem or the Lie point symmetry group is obtained by using a direct method., Comment: 9 pages

The celebrated (1+1)-dimensional Korteweg de-Vries (KdV) equation and its (2+1)-dimensional extention, the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) equation, are two of the most important models in physical science. The KP hierarchy is explicitly written out by means of the linearized operator of the KP equation. A novel (2+1)-dimensional KdV extension, the cKP3-4 equation, is obtained by combining the third member (KP3, the usual KP equation) and the fourth member (KP4) of the KP hierarchy. The integrability of the cKP3-4 equation is guaranteed by the existence of the Lax pair and dual Lax pair. The cKP3-4 system can be bilinearized by using Hirota's bilinear operators after introducing an additional auxiliary variable. Exact solutions of the cKP3-4 equation possess some peculiar and interesting properties which are not valid for the KP3 and KP4 equations. For instance, the soliton molecules and the missing D'Alembert type solutions (the arbitrary travelling waves moving in one direction with a fixed model dependent velocity) including periodic kink molecules, periodic kink-antikink molecules, few cycle solitons and envelope solitons are existed for the cKP3-4 equation but not for the separated KP3 equation and the KP4 equation., Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures

Soliton molecules may be formed in some possible mechanisms in both theoretical and experimental aspects. In this letter, we introduce a new possible mechanism, the velocity resonant, to form soliton molecules. Under the resonant mechanism, two solitons may be formed to a kink-antikink molecule, an asymmetric soliton, a two-peak soliton and/or a far away bounded molecule depended on the selections of the wave numbers and the distance between two solitons of the molecule. The results are exhibited via three well known fifth order integrable systems which approximately solve a general fluid model that also appeared in many other physical fields. A nonlocal Alice-Bob Kadomtsev-Petviashivili (ABKP) system with shifted-parities ($\hat{P}_s^x$ and $\hat{P}_s^y$ parities with shifts for the space variables $x$ and $y$) and delayed time reversal ($\hat{T}_d$, time reversal with a delay) symmetries is investigated. Some types of $\hat{P}_s^y\hat{P}_s^x\hat{T}_d$ invariant solutions including multiple soliton solutions, Painlev\'e reductions and soliton and $p$-wave interaction solutions are obtained via $\hat{P}_s^y\hat{P}_s^x\hat{T}_d$ symmetry and the solutions of the usual local KP equation. Two-place nonlocal systems have attracted many scientists' attentions. In this paper, two-place non-localities are extended to multi-place non-localities. Especially, various two-place and four-place nonlocal nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) systems and Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) equations are systematically obtained from the discrete symmetry reductions of the coupled local systems. The Lax pairs for the two-place and four-place nonlocal NLS and KP equations are explicitly given. Some types of exact solutions especially the multiple soliton solutions for two-place and four-place KP equations are investigated by means of the group symmetric-antisymmetric separation approach., Comment: 26 pages

It is found that two different celebrate models, the Korteweg de-Vrise (KdV) equation and the Boussinesq equation, are linked to a same model equation but with different nonlocalities. The model equation is called the Alice-Bob KdV (ABKdV) equation which was derived from the usual KdV equation via the so-called consistent correlated bang (CCB) companied by the shifted parity (SP) and delayed time reversal (DTR). The same model can be called as the Alice-Bob Boussinesq (ABB) system if the nonlocality is changed as only one of SP and DTR. For the ABB systems, with help of the bilinear approach and recasting the multi-soliton solutions of the usual Boussinesq equation to an equivalent novel form, the multi-soliton solutions with even numbers and the head on interactions are obtained. However, the multi-soliton solutions with odd numbers and the multi-soliton solutions with even numbers but with pursuant interactions are prohibited. For the ABKdV equation, the multi-soliton solutions exhibit many more structures because an arbitrary odd function of $x+t$ can be introduced as background waves of the usual KdV equation., Comment: 16 pages, 5 figures

Rogue waves named by oceanographers are ubiquitous in nature and appear in a variety of different contexts such as water waves, liquid Helium, nonlinear optics, microwave cavities, etc. In this letter, we propose a novel type of exact (2+1)-dimensional rogue waves which may be found in many physical fields described by integrable and nonintegrable models. This type of rogue waves are closely related to invisible lumps. Usually, a lump is an algebraically localized wave in space but visible at any time. Whence a lump induces a soliton, the lump will become invisible before or after a fixed time. If a bounded twin soliton is induced by a lump, the lump will become a rogue wave (or instanton) and can only be visible at an instant time. Because of the existence of the induced visible solitons, the rogue wave may be predictable in some senses. For instance, the height, the position and the arrival time of the rogue wave can be predictable. To describe two-place events, Alice-Bob systems have been established by means of the shifted parity and delayed time reversal in Ref. [1]. In this paper, we mainly study exact solutions of the integrable Alice-Bob modified Korteweg de-Vries (AB-mKdV) system. The general Nth Darboux transformation for the AB-mKdV equation are constructed. By using the Darboux transformation, some types of shifted parity and time reversal symmetry breaking solutions including one-soliton, two-soliton and rogue wave solutions are explicitly obtained. In natural and social science, many events happened at different space-times may be closely correlated. Two events, A (Alice) and B (Bob) are defined as correlated if one event is determined by another, say, $B=\hat{f} A$ for suitable $\hat{f}$ operators. A nonlocal AB-KdV system with shifted-parity ($P_s$, parity with a shift), delayed time reversal ($T_d$, time reversal with a delay) symmetry where $B=\hat{P_s}\hat{T_d} A$ is constructed directly from the normal KdV equation to describe two-area physical event. The exact solutions of the AB-KdV system, including $P_s T_d$ invariant and $P_s T_d$ symmetric breaking solutions are shown by different methods. The $P_s T_d$ invariant solution show that the event happened at $A$ will happen also at $B$. These solutions, such as single soliton solutions, infinitely many singular soliton solutions, soliton-cnoidal wave interaction solutions, and symmetry reduction solutions etc., show the AB-KdV system possesses rich structures. Also, a special B\"{a}cklund transformation related to residual symmetry is presented via the localization of the residual symmetry to find interaction solutions between the solitons and other types of the AB-KdV system., Comment: 20 pages

In natural and social science, many events happened at different space-times may be closely correlated. Two events, $A$ (Alice) and $B$ (Bob) are defined correlated if one event is determined by another, say, $B=\hat{f}A$ for suitable $\hat{f}$ operators. Taking KdV and coupled KdV systems as examples, we can find some types of models (AB-KdV systems) to exhibit the existence on the correlated solutions linked with two events. The idea of this report is valid not only for physical problems related to KdV systems but also for problems described by arbitrary continuous or discrete models. The parity and time reversal symmetries are extended to shifted parity and delayed time reversal. The new symmetries are found to be useful not only to establish AB-systems but also to find group invariant solutions of numerous AB-systems. A new elegant form of the $N$-soliton solutions of the KdV equation and then the AB-KdV systems is obtained. A concrete AB-KdV system derived from the nonlinear inviscid dissipative and barotropic vorticity equation in a $\beta$-plane channel is applied to the two correlated monople blocking events which is responsible for the snow disaster in the winter of 2007/2008 happened in Southern China., Comment: 14 pages, 4 figure

To describe two-place physical problems, many possible models named Alice-Bob (AB) systems are proposed. To find and to solve these systems, the Parity (P), time reversal (T), charge conjugation (C), shifted-parity ($P_s$, parity with a shift), delayed time reversal ($T_d$, time reversal with a delay) and their possible combinations such as PT, PC, $P_sC$, $P_sT_d$ and $P_sT_dC$ etc. can be successively used. Especially, some special types of $P_s$-$T_d$-$C$ group invariant multi-soliton solutions for the KdV-KP-Toda type, mKdV-sG type, NLS type and discrete $H_1$ type AB systems are explicitly constructed., Comment: 22 pages

The nanopteron, which is a permanent but weakly nonlocal soliton, has been an interesting topic in numerical study for many decades. However, analytical solution of such a special soliton is rarely considered. In this Letter, we study the explicit nanopteron solution of the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation. Starting from the soliton-cnoidal wave solution of the KdV equation, the nanopteron structure is shown to exist. It is found that for the suitable choice of the wave parameters, the soliton core of the soliton-cnoidal wave trends to be a classical soliton of the KdV equation and the surrounded cnoidal periodic wave appears as small amplitude sinusoidal variations on both sides of the main core. Some interesting features of the wave propagation are revealed. In addition to the elastic interaction, it is surprising that the phase shift of the cnoidal periodic wave after the interaction with the soliton core is always half of its wavelength, and this conclusion is universal to soliton-cnoidal wave interactions., Comment: 11pages, 4 figures

Assuming that there exist at least two fermionic parameters, the classical N= 1 supersymmetric Korteweg-de Vries (SKdV) system can be transformed to some coupled bosonic systems. The boson fields in the bosonized SKdV (BSKdV) systems are defined on even Grassmann algebra. Due to the intrusion of other Grassmann parameters, the BSKdV systems are different from the usual non-supersymmetric integrable systems, and many more abundant solution structures can be unearthed. With the help of the singularity analysis, the Painlev\'e property of the BSKdV system is proved and a B\"acklund transformation (BT) is found. The BT related nonlocal symmetry, we call it as residual symmetry, is used to find symmetry reduction solutions of the BSKdV system. Hinted from the symmetry reduction solutions, a more generalized but much simpler method is established to find exact solutions of the BSKdV and then the SKdV systems, which actually can be applied to any fermionic systems., Comment: 21 pages; 0 figures
