The article considers the impact made by natural hazards on the parameters of the staple food self-sufficiency for the Russian Federation. It is shown how the negative effect of such phenomena is gradually spreading and affects the components of "food sovereignty" and their links. A list for types and dynamic series of hydrometeorological hazards most frequently occurring on the territory of the Russian Federation is compiled for the time interval from 1991 to 2019. Correlation and regression analysis of the dependence observed for production indicators and the use of certain types of product groups (in the context of food balance sheet items) on the occurrence of specific natural hazard types was carried out. The results of the analytical study show that the integral effect of the consequences brought about by natural hazards is reflected in the matrix representing food balance sheets. The efficiency of bevel and hypoid gears is, alongside load capacity, one of their most important design criteria. To consider the efficiency of bevel and hypoid gears during the development and design process, validated calculation methods based on experimental investigations are necessary. However, the isolated experimental investigation of the load-dependent power losses of bevel and hypoid gears has not been adequately investigated, as most of the experimental investigations consider the complete gearbox. This paper presents a test rig that allows for the experimental investigation of the efficiency of bevel and hypoid gears with a measurement uncertainty of the efficiency of ∆ η ≤ ± 0.08 % according to the Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement (GUM). Using the developed test rig, experimental investigations on the efficiency behavior of bevel and hypoid gears regarding the influence of the axial offset, driving direction, and microgeometry are carried out for different operating points varying in circumferential speed and load. The uninterrupted operation of induction motors is crucial for industries, ensuring reliability and continuous functionality. To achieve this, we propose an innovative approach that utilizes an efficiency model-based digital shadow system for in situ failure detection and diagnosis (FDD) in induction motors (IMs). The shadow model accurately estimates IM losses and efficiency across various operational conditions. Our proposed method utilizes efficiency as the primary indicator for fault detection, while losses serve as condition indicators for fault diagnosis based on real-time motor parameters and loss sources. We introduce a bond graph as a fault diagnosis network, linking loss sources, motor parameters, and faults. This interconnected approach is the key aspect of our proposed diagnostic method and aims to be used in fault diagnosis as a general method. A case study of a broken rotor bar is used to validate the proposed method using a dataset of five motors. Among these, one motor operates without failure, while the remaining four exhibit broken rotor faults categorized as 1, 2, 3, and 4. The proposed method achieves 99.99% precision in identifying one to four defective rotor bars in IMs. Comparative analysis demonstrates good performance compared to vibration-based FDD approaches. The optimal sitting and operation of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) plays a key role in energy transition and sustainability. This paper presents an optimization framework based on a Multi-period Optimal Power Flow (MOPF) for the optimal sitting and operation of BESS alongside PV in active distribution grids. The model was implemented in AMPL (A Mathematical Programming Language) and solved using the Knitro solver to minimize power losses over one week, divided into hourly intervals. To demonstrate the applicability of the proposed model, various analyses were conducted on a benchmark 33-bus distribution network considering 1, 2 and 3 BESS. Along with the reduction in power losses of up to 17.95%, 26% and 29%, respectively. In all cases, there was an improvement in the voltage profile and a more uniform generation curve at the substation. An additional study showed that operating over a one-week horizon results in an energy gain of 1.08 MWh per day compared to single daily operations. The findings suggest that the proposed model for optimal sitting and operation of BESS in the presence of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) applies to real-world scenarios. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The authors present the multi‐physical field performances comparative research for a 30 kW, 30,000 r/min high‐speed permanent magnet motor (HSPMM) when the motor is powered by the sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) voltage inverter and sinusoidal voltage source, respectively. Firstly, electromagnetic performances including torque, voltage and current of the HSPMM with different driving methods are compared and analysed by the finite element method (FEM). Considering the effects of high operation frequency, power losses of the HSPMM with different driving methods under full‐load conditions are calculated and compared with the skin effect and the proximity effect considered for HSPMM winding copper loss estimation. Based on the above analysis, a prototype driven by the SPWM voltage inverter is manufactured, with its electromagnetic and thermal performances tested and verified. In addition, several influencing factors of the HSPMM rotor eddy current loss are studied, with their effects on the HSPMM under different driving methods further analysed and compared as well. A novel equivalent power supply method is proposed to effectively save the calculation time with a negligible error. Finally, in order to further improve the heat dissipation capacity of the HSPMM, a novel cooling method is intensively studied with its influencing factors further analysed. The losses of productivity observed in gas suction within an oil-free two-rotor vacuum pump are considered. In CFD (computational fluid dynamics) modeling of pump operation, both with and without a pressure difference, the influence of heating and throttling of the gas is analyzed, as it passes through the intake tube and as it fills an isolated chamber. Experimental data confirm the modeling results. Gas heating in suction has the greatest influence on pump performance. The proposed formula determines the losses with no more than 6% error. Loss chasing is considered a defining marker, and potential risk factor, for problematic gambling. However, there have been few efforts to identify loss chasing behaviors among actual gamblers. Loss chasing also is not well defined, and often measured along a single behavioral dimension. In this study, we propose a novel multidimensional concept of loss chasing grounded in three betting domains (bet size, betting odds, time between bets). Using actual sports gambling records from a major European operator, we calculated bettors' (N = 12,992) loss chasing during their first month of activity. We created binary high/low groups for each loss chasing dimension. Membership in various combinations of 'high' groups was diverse, and none of the raw loss chasing metrics were highly correlated with one another. We assessed each high group's (and sum of high group's) ability to predict mounting losses over the following months of activity. Only one of these groups (bet size), was positively predictive of mounting losses in bivariate analysis, and none of the loss chasing groups were significant in multivariate analysis. Results suggest that loss chasing is a multidimensional concept, but the potential value of a multidimensional loss chasing concept in terms of predicting gambling harm is unclear. Network reconfiguration is a very economical technique that can improve electrical system performance. The development of semiconductor electrical equipment technology to meet human needs and work, known as nonlinear loads, has had a negative impact in the form of the spread of harmonic distortion which can accelerate the aging process and even damage equipment. In this paper, the effect of the optimization results of network reconfiguration techniques on the Sungguminasa 165-bus Executive Unit Service or Unit Layanan Pelanggan (ULP) electrical system is contaminated with harmonic distortion due to the use of nonlinear loads. This technique was optimized using the particle swarm optimization (PSO) method with a multi objective function in the form of minimizing %THDv and total losses with several limitations. Simulation results from the optimization process of several study cases are shown by activating the five tie switches from the network reconfiguration process on the Sungguminasa 165-bus ULP system which is able to improve power quality by reducing the average %THDv by 3.89% and total losses by 8.19%. Abstract The cost for covering active power losses makes a significant item in transmission system operators (TSO) annual budgets, and still it received limited attention in the existing literature. The focus of accurate power loss forecasting and procurement is of high increase during the past 2 years due to spikes in electricity prices, making the cost of covering the active power losses a dominant factor of TSO operational costs. This paper presents practical aspects of the highly accurate models for transmission loss forecast in the day ahead time frame for the Croatian transmission system. The contributions are two‐fold: 1) Practical insights into usable TSO data are provided, filling a critical research gap and a foundational literature review is established on transmission loss forecasting. 2) A novel method utilizing only electricity transit data as input which outperforms existing practices is presented. For this, several algorithms such as gradient boosted decision tree model (XGB), support vector regressors, multiple linear regression and fully connected feedforward artificial neural networks are developed, and implemented and validated on data obtained from the Croatian TSO. The results show that the XGB model outperforms current TSO model by 32% for 4 months of comparison and TSCNET's commercial solution by 25% during a year‐long testing period. The developed XGB model is also implemented as a software tool and put into everyday operation with the Croatian TSO.

Abstract Vector control of induction motors has provided us with both good performance and acceptable efficiency at rated loads. Using this method at light loads reduces the efficiency due to the adjustment of motor flux at the rated value. Electric motors are normally used even at lower loads than the rated ones and often selected oversized. Enhancing the efficiency of induction motors at light loads will significantly reduce electric energy consumption. A novel method called Flux Angle Control (FAC) of the induction motor is presented to improve efficiency in the steady state at light loads. To increase the accuracy of the induction motor model we consider iron losses. This method controls the angle between the stator flux (stator current) and the d‐axis (rotor flux direction). The primary aim of the flux angle control method is to reduce the flux level and increase the flux angle at light loads. The optimal flux angle is sensitive to some induction motor parameters. The proposed method offers several advantages compared to similar methods, including high efficiency, minimal sensitivity of the optimal flux angle to changes in motor parameters, a reduced number of calculations, and easy implementation. The validity of this method is examined through experiments.

The article is devoted to the study of the correlation between the concepts of reimbursement and compensation for damages, including during the war. The author highlights the issue of distinguishing between the concepts of reimbursement and compensation as synonymous categories. It is determined that the term “compensation” is broader in scope and includes the narrower term “reimbursement”, as well as additional features – remuneration or payments. It is proposed to change the use of the established phrase “reimbursement of moral damage” to “compensation for moral damage” due to the impossibility of accurate determination of the amount of reimbursement due to the non-property component and the need to compensate a person for a certain amount of compensation for suffering, especially in wartime. It is established that the categories of “damage” and “losses” are not identical. The characteristic features of both concepts are analysed. Losses are defined as material losses which should be determined in monetary terms. Damage is a broader concept and is considered to be the negative consequences of unlawful behaviour towards a certain entity in connection with the violation of its rights. Damage can be tangible or intangible, which is not inherent in losses. It is proved that damage and losses are interrelated, i.e. damage may include losses, but only in respect of property damage. It is emphasised that losses are defined as losses due to damage or destruction of property or losses which a person could have suffered. It is determined that the definition of “non-pecuniary damage” contains a reference to the fact that it is also disclosed as losses of a non-property nature. The article analyses and notes that losses are deprivation of a person of a certain benefit. Non-pecuniary damage is inflicted on a person in non-property terms and cannot be considered losses. The particularities of reimbursement of damage caused by war are considered. The article establishes the absence of a single mechanism for reimbursement of damages caused by violation of their rights as a result of armed aggression. The need and possibility of reimbursement, in addition to property damage, of moral damage caused by war is revealed. It is emphasised that today the State, either independently or with the involvement of international partners, provides compensation to victims of war.

The full-scale military invasion significantly affected the operation of the agricultural sector of the Ukrainian economy, in particular, the management of the assets of business entities. New challenges and threats have appeared related to the destruction of property, its occupation, theft, change in value or write-off. Accordingly, this requires adapting methodical approaches to accounting for the property of agricultural enterprises to the new economic conditions. The article's purpose is to reveal methodical approaches to the accounting of the property of agricultural enterprises, which will ensure the reliability, transparency, relevance and quality of accounting information in martial law conditions. Also, the research aims to identify key models of property accounting in the agricultural sector during the war. The authors analyze the existing legal framework aimed at regulating issues related to the control over property under martial law. Possible models of recognition/termination of accounting of property damaged due to hostilities, stolen or located in temporarily occupied territories, and which are aimed at ensuring proper accounting, control and management of property in martial law conditions, were identified. The key models of recognition and accounting of property (non-current assets, capital investments and stocks) are highlighted depending on the consequences of military actions, which demonstrate how various management decisions made by the management of the enterprise in martial law conditions affect the status of assets. Such models emphasize the importance of implementing a clear and transparent accounting policy that considers the impact of extraordinary circumstances on the enterprise's property and control over it. The accounting, tax and legal consequences of seizure and forced alienation of property under martial law were characterized. Properly organized accounting will help the management of the enterprise make decisions regarding restoration, insurance, and loss replacement, and it will also avoid negative tax and accounting consequences.

IntroductionOn the field and in the paddy milling factory dryer losses have always been challenging issues in the rice industry. Different forms of losses in brown rice may occur depending on the field and factory conditions. To reduce the losses, proper management during pre-harvest, harvesting, and post-harvest operations is essential. In this study, different on-field drying and tempering methods were investigated to detect different forms of brown rice losses.Materials and MethodsThe present study was conducted on the most common Hashemi paddy variety during the 2019-2020 season in Talesh, Rezvanshahr, and Masal cities in the Guilan province, Iran with 0.2 hectares and 5 paddy milling factory dryers. On the fields, the method and date of tillage, irrigation, and transplanting used in all experimental units were the same. Moreover, the same amount of fertilizer and similar spraying methods were used across all experiments. For the pre-drying process on the fields, the following three pre-drying methods were applied on the harvest day: A1) The paddies were spread on the cut stems for insolating, A2) The paddies were stacked and stored after being placed on the cut stems for 5h, and A3) The paddies were covered with plastic wrap and stored after 5h of insolating. The first method (A1) is the most common in the area and was chosen as the control treatment. For the second step of the process, the time interval between the on-field pre-drying and threshing was considered: B1) 14 to 19h post-harvest; B2) 20 to 24h post-harvest, and B3) 25 to 29h post-harvest. Afterward, methods A1 to A3 were combined with methods B1 to B3 and feed into an axial flow-thresher at 10 kg min-1, 550 rpm PTO, and two levels of moisture content at 19 and 26 percent (% w.b). The third process was two-stage or three-stage tempering for 10 or 15 hours resulting in four levels (C1 to C4) and was done in the conventional batch type dryer under temperatures of 40 and 50 ˚C and airspeeds of 0.5 and 0.8 m s-1 in paddy milling factories. At the end of each process, a 100g sample was oven-dried for 48h and a microscope achromatic objective 40x was used to detect incomplete horizontal or vertical cracks, tortoise pattern cracks, and immature and chalky grains. The equilibrium moisture content was determined to be 7.3 percent. Losses properties were analyzed using a completely randomized factorial design with a randomized block followed by Tukey's HSD test at the 5% probability and comparisons among the three replications were made.Results and DiscussionResults demonstrated that the stack and plastic drying methods significantly increased the percentage of losses. In the plastic drying method, the percentage of chalky grains and tortoise pattern cracks was higher than other forms of loss. In the first process, irrespective of the pre-drying method, the losses were reduced at a lower level of moisture content. At the end of the first stage, losses in the spreading method were significantly lower at 19% moisture content. Threshing the plastic-wrapped paddies after 14 to 19 hours at 19% moisture content resulted in the maximum threshing loss of 8.446% and over half of the grains were chalky or had tortoise pattern cracks. The threshing loss was halved (4.443%) for paddies threshed 25 to 29h after spreading at a moisture content of 26%. The mean of losses in the second step of the process were 7.229, 5.585, and 5.156% for the time interval between the on-field pre-drying and threshing of 14 to 19h, 20 to 24h, and 25 to 29h, respectively. In the last step of the process in paddy milling factory dryers, there was no significant difference in the minimum percent of losses between 10 and 15 hours of three-stage tempering at 40 °C and with 0.5 m s-1 airspeed. Furthermore, maximum total losses with the most incomplete horizontal and vertical cracks occurred in the two-stage 10h tempering at 50 °C and with 0.5 and 0.8 m s-1 airspeed.ConclusionFood security has always been a critical matter in developing countries. Furthermore, identifying the source of losses in the fields and the factories is one way to reduce losses and achieve food security. Stacking or wrapping the paddies in plastic after pre-drying on the fields for 5h is not recommended in terms of its effect on increasing the percentage of brown rice losses. Additionally, due to the importance of factory dryer scheduling in the management of the losses, it is recommended to use a three-stage 10h tempering at 40 °C and with 0.5 m s-1 airspeed.

Abstract A variable coefficient segmented iron loss calculation model is proposed for high‐voltage multi‐pole asynchronous motors, which fully considers the influence of high‐order harmonic magnetic density on such motors. This model introduces additional hysteresis loss, improved eddy current loss coefficients, and rotation magnetisation coefficients to account for changes in losses due to small hysteresis loops and skin effect, as well as rotation magnetisation losses. A 710 kW 10‐pole asynchronous motor is used as the research object. A full‐domain iron loss calculation model considering stator and rotor tooth top surface losses is developed. The model can be used to accurately calculate the overall and local harmonic iron losses in the stator and rotor cores of high‐voltage multi‐pole asynchronous motors. And quantitatively analyse the distribution pattern of any harmonic iron loss at any location in the motor core. It realises the refinement calculation and analysis of iron losses in the whole domain of high‐voltage multi‐pole asynchronous motor. Finally, no‐load and load tests were conducted on the 710 kW 10‐pole asynchronous motor. The iron losses of the 710 kW 10‐pole asynchronous motor at no load and load are calculated using the above mentioned model and the classical trinomial constant factor model. The results are compared with the measured iron loss values. It is proved that the iron loss model is more accurate in calculating the iron loss of high‐voltage multi‐pole asynchronous motor. The result helps researchers to calculate the iron loss distribution of high voltage motors more accurately. Thus, the design and operating parameters of the motor can be optimised to improve the efficiency and performance of the motor. It provides the necessary technical support and key basis for the reduction of loss and energy saving of high‐voltage motors and the optimisation of their core structure.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of microbial inoculants, chitosan, and blend (microbial inoculants and chitosan) on chemical composition, in vitro degradability, fermentative profile, losses, aerobic stability, and microorganism counts of corn, pearl millet and sorghum silages. A randomised block design was used in a factorial arrangement of 3 × 4. Three crops (pearl millet, corn and sorghum) and four additives: Control (without additive), 2 g of microbial inoculants (for ton of forage), 10 g/kg chitosan per kg of ensiled material, and blend (chitosan [5 g/kg] plus microbial inoculants [2 g/ton forage]), with five replicates per treatment. Chitosan increases the CP levels of silages and improves the in vitro degradability of DM in sorghum silage. The microbial inoculants reduced the pH in pearl millet, corn and sorghum silages (P < 0.001). The additives affected (P < 0.05) the aerobic stability of silages throughout the evaluation period. However, when evaluating the chitosan, the average temperature of the pearl millet and corn silages remained stable for a longer period. Chitosan improved the nutritional quality of sorghum silage. Chitosan-treated silages pearl millet and corn silages show great efficiency in aerobic stability due to antifungal activity. The microbial inoculants show reduced gas losses compared to chitosan. Multi-Dimensional Optimal Power Flow (MDOPF) is a fundamental task in power systems engineering aimed at optimizing the operation of electrical networks while considering various constraints such as power generation, transmission, and distribution. The mathematical model of MDOPF involves formulating it as a non-linear, non-convex optimization problem aimed at minimizing specific objective functions while adhering to equality and inequality constraints. The objective function typically includes terms representing the Fuel Cost (FC), Entire Network Losses (ENL), and Entire Emissions (EE), while the constraints encompass power balance equations, generator operating limits, and network constraints, such as line flow limits and voltage limits. This paper presents an innovative Improved Kepler Optimization Technique (IKOT) for solving MDOPF problems. The IKOT builds upon the traditional KOT and incorporates enhanced local escaping mechanisms to overcome local optima traps and improve convergence speed. The mathematical model of the IKOT algorithm involves defining a population of candidate solutions (individuals) represented as vectors in a high-dimensional search space. Each individual corresponds to a potential solution to the MDOPF problem, and the algorithm iteratively refines these solutions to converge towards the optimal solution. The key innovation of the IKOT lies in its enhanced local escaping mechanisms, which enable it to explore the search space more effectively and avoid premature convergence to suboptimal solutions. Experimental results on standard IEEE test systems demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed IKOT in solving MDOPF problems. The proposed IKOT obtained the FC, EE, and ENL of USD 41,666.963/h, 1.039 Ton/h, and 9.087 MW, respectively, in comparison with the KOT, which achieved USD 41,677.349/h, 1.048 Ton/h, 11.277 MW, respectively. In comparison to the base scenario, the IKOT achieved a reduction percentage of 18.85%, 58.89%, and 64.13%, respectively, for the three scenarios. The IKOT consistently outperformed the original KOT and other state-of-the-art metaheuristic optimization algorithms in terms of solution quality, convergence speed, and robustness. The origin of iron losses in ferromagnetic materials is commented on, starting with the definition of heat. The different possible dissipative mechanisms inside a hysteresis curve, which originate heat, as well as its relationship to the magnetic Barkhausen noise, are discussed in detail. In this study, different on-field drying and tempering methods were investigated to detect different forms of brown rice losses. Materials and Methods The present study was conducted on the most common Hashemi paddy variety during the 2019-2020 season in Talesh, Rezvanshahr, and Masal cities in the Guilan province, Iran with 0.2 hectares and 5 paddy milling factory dryers. On the fields, the method and date of tillage, irrigation, and transplanting used in all experimental units were the same. Moreover, the same amount of fertilizer and similar spraying methods were used across all experiments. For the pre-drying process on the fields, the following three pre-drying methods were applied on the harvest day: A1) The paddies were spread on the cut stems for insolating, A2) The paddies were stacked and stored after being placed on the cut stems for 5h, and A3) The paddies were covered with plastic wrap and stored after 5h of insolating. The first method (A1) is the most common in the area and was chosen as the control treatment. For the second step of the process, the time interval between the on-field pre-drying and threshing was considered: B1) 14 to 19h post-harvest; B2) 20 to 24h post-harvest, and B3) 25 to 29h post-harvest. Afterward, methods A1 to A3 were combined with methods B1 to B3 and feed into an axial flow-thresher at 10 kg min-1, 550 rpm PTO, and two levels of moisture content at 19 and 26 percent (% w.b). The third process was two-stage or three-stage tempering for 10 or 15 hours resulting in four levels (C1 to C4) and was done in the conventional batch type dryer under temperatures of 40 and 50 °C and airspeeds of 0.5 and 0.8 m s-1 in paddy milling factories. At the end of each process, a 100g sample was oven-dried for 48h and a microscope achromatic objective 40x was used to detect incomplete horizontal or vertical cracks, tortoise pattern cracks, and immature and chalky grains. The equilibrium moisture content was determined to be 7.3 percent. Losses properties were analyzed using a completely randomized factorial design with a randomized block followed by Tukey's HSD test at the 5% probability and comparisons among the three replications were made. Results and Discussion Results demonstrated that the stack and plastic drying methods significantly increased the percentage of losses. In the plastic drying method, the percentage of chalky grains and tortoise pattern cracks was higher than other forms of loss. In the first process, irrespective of the pre-drying method, the losses were reduced at a lower level of moisture content. At the end of the first stage, losses in the spreading method were significantly lower at 19% moisture content. Threshing the plastic-wrapped paddies after 14 to 19 hours at 19% moisture content resulted in the maximum threshing loss of 8.446% and over half of the grains were chalky or had tortoise pattern cracks. The threshing loss was halved (4.443%) for paddies threshed 25 to 29h after spreading at a moisture content of 26%. The mean of losses in the second step of the process were 7.229, 5.585, and 5.156% for the time interval between the on-field pre-drying and threshing of 14 to 19h, 20 to 24h, and 25 to 29h, respectively. In the last step of the process in paddy milling factory dryers, there was no significant difference in the minimum percent of losses between 10 and 15 hours of three-stage tempering at 40 °C and with 0.5 m s-1 airspeed. Furthermore, maximum total losses with the most incomplete horizontal and vertical cracks occurred in the two-stage 10h tempering at 50 °C and with 0.5 and 0.8 m s-1 airspeed. Conclusion Food security has always been a critical matter in developing countries. Furthermore, identifying the source of losses in the fields and the factories is one way to reduce losses and achieve food security. Stacking or wrapping the paddies in plastic after pre-drying on the fields for 5h is not recommended in terms of its effect on increasing the percentage of brown rice losses. Additionally, due to the importance of factory dryer scheduling in the management of the losses, it is recommended to use a three-stage 10h tempering at 40 °C and with 0.5 m s-1 airspeed. The transportation of fresh agricultural material is a challenging task that can lead to considerable losses due to vibrations and shock stresses. This study reviews 55 articles published between 1985 and 2023 to gain insights into the impact of these factors on the damage of agricultural material. The review reveals several factors that affect vibration levels during transportation, including the suspension system's type, truck speed, road profile, payload capacity, stack height, and packaging material. However, previous research has examined these factors independently, and their relative impact on the vibration intensity remains unclear. Therefore, we suggest a multi-factor assessment of transport vibration intensity to identify the most influential factors and reduce transport-related losses effectively. Overall, our study emphasizes the need for a comprehensive understanding of the factors that contribute to transport-related losses to minimize agricultural product damages during transportation. Our findings have practical implications for the transportation industry and can be used to inform the development of better transport systems that minimize the loss of agricultural products. Maximizing efficiency, power density, and reliability stands as paramount objectives in the advancement of power electronic systems. Notably, the dimensions and losses of magnetic components emerge as primary constraints hindering the miniaturization of such systems. Researchers have increasingly focused on the design of loss minimization and size optimization of magnetic devices. In this paper, with the objective of minimizing the loss of magnetic devices, an optimal design method for the winding structure of devices is proposed based on the coupling relationship between the loss prediction model and the design variables. The method examines the decoupling conditions between the design variables and the loss model, deriving optimized design closure equations for the design variables. This approach furnishes a technical foundation for the miniaturized design of miniature apparatuses incorporating magnetic components, offering a straightforward and adaptable design methodology. The finite element method simulation results and experimental measurement data verify the accuracy of the prediction of the proposed method and the validity of the optimal design theory of device loss. This article reported on the effect of Cu-content and sintering temperature on the magnetic permeability and power losses of monolithic iron-deficient NiCuZn-ferrite components with low Cu-contents aimed to be used for power applications at frequencies up to 1 MHz. In particular N i α Z n b 1 − x C u x F e 1.9 O 4 ferrite compositions are investigated with a constant Ni/Zn atomic ratio a/b = 0.9 and 0 < x < 0.017. As found, the addition of Cu enables the achievement of good magnetic performance at lower sintering temperatures and, therefore, lower production cost. At all Cu-contents, the initial permeability as a function of the sintering temperature passes through a maximum above which structural deterioration due to asymmetric grain growth occurs. The temperature at which this maximum permeability occurs depends on the Cu content and coincides with the achievement of the maximum density of 5.1–5.2 g cm−3 (relative density ~97%). At Cu-contents x = 0.006–0.012 and sintering temperatures 1200–1100 °C power losses (tan(δ)/μ at 1 MHz, 25 °C) οf 50 × 10−6 could be achieved and initial permeabilities (10 kHz, 0.1 mT, 25 °C) of around 400 with very good frequency and temperature stability. At CuO content higher than 4 wt.% (i.e., x > 0.012) and sintering temperatures higher than 1150 °C, pronounced microstructural disturbances due to asymmetric grain growth result in low permeabilities and high losses. It is suggested that at low CuO contents and low sintering temperatures, the densification enhancement may not proceed through Cu-rich phase segregation but through the creation of oxygen vacancies. A variable coefficient segmented iron loss calculation model is proposed for high‐voltage multi‐pole asynchronous motors, which fully considers the influence of high‐order harmonic magnetic density on such motors. This model introduces additional hysteresis loss, improved eddy current loss coefficients, and rotation magnetisation coefficients to account for changes in losses due to small hysteresis loops and skin effect, as well as rotation magnetisation losses. A 710 kW 10‐pole asynchronous motor is used as the research object. A full‐domain iron loss calculation model considering stator and rotor tooth top surface losses is developed. The model can be used to accurately calculate the overall and local harmonic iron losses in the stator and rotor cores of high‐voltage multi‐pole asynchronous motors. And quantitatively analyse the distribution pattern of any harmonic iron loss at any location in the motor core. It realises the refinement calculation and analysis of iron losses in the whole domain of high‐voltage multi‐pole asynchronous motor. Finally, no‐load and load tests were conducted on the 710 kW 10‐pole asynchronous motor. The iron losses of the 710 kW 10‐pole asynchronous motor at no load and load are calculated using the above mentioned model and the classical trinomial constant factor model. The results are compared with the measured iron loss values. It is proved that the iron loss model is more accurate in calculating the iron loss of high‐voltage multi‐pole asynchronous motor. The result helps researchers to calculate the iron loss distribution of high voltage motors more accurately. Thus, the design and operating parameters of the motor can be optimised to improve the efficiency and performance of the motor. This research addresses electromagnetic compatibility and power quality (EMC and PQ) challenges in shipboard electric power systems (SEPS) with dynamic positioning (DP) capabilities, focusing on the self-propelled floating crane (SPFC) “EXPERT 3.” Our goal is to enhance methodologies for evaluating power quality indicators (PQI) related to voltage and current waveform distortions, specifically in converter-based propulsion complexes (CBPCs) featuring variable-frequency regulated asynchronous drives (VFDs). We investigate harmonic current and voltage distortions, reactive power generation, and power factor (PF) in SEPS “EXPERT 3″ during the operation of VFDs with conventional semiconductor power converters (SPCs). A refined MATLAB model considers equipment and cable network parameters, validating distortion indicators at ship synchronous generators (SGs). PQI compliance with international maritime standards is verified at the point of common coupling (PCC) for various VFD configurations with pulse width modulated (PWM) SPCs and filter-compensating devices (FCDs). We propose an improved controlled FCD (CFCD) incorporating a resonance filter (RF) and a controllable reactor compensator (CRC). CFCD efficiency in various VFD configurations is experimentally validated. We analyze harmonic distortions of voltage and current, including high-frequency (HF) commutations in VFDs with input thyristor-based rectifiers (TBRs), considering parasitic ”phase-hull“ capacitances of cable line segments (CLS). Under martial law on the territory of Ukraine, insurance of agricultural products becomes particular relevance, since the danger of losing future crops is scaled not only due to the traditional hazards (agronomic, natural and climatic, financial and economic, etc.), but also due to the presence of wartime risks. The scientific novelty of the presented article lies in the substantiation of the expediency of further development of agrarian insurance in Ukraine, taking into account the global experience and European experience in particular. The article identifies the key problems that impede the functioning of the agrarian insurance market in Ukraine. Based on the results of the study, a comparative analysis of the existing models of functioning of agrarian insurance markets in the countries of the European Union is carried out, their advantages and disadvantages are substantiated. The importance of insurance for a sustainable development of agribusiness and ensuring the country’s food security is emphasized. Summarizing the current trends in the pan-European agrarian insurance market, the authors of the article emphasize the expediency of diversification of insurance protection of agricultural producers by expanding the range of insurance services (microinsurance, index and classic insurance). On the basis of a generalization, an analysis of the key parameters of the development of the agrarian insurance market in Ukraine for 2019–2022 is carried out, the authors’ proposals aimed at forming a model of public-private partnership are formulated, the expediency of strengthening social responsibility and increasing the stability of communication links between stakeholders of the agrarian insurance market, as well as ensuring comprehensive digitalization of the insurance process, is substantiated. The implementation of these measures is considered in the context of adaptation of the national agrarian insurance market to the pan-European insurance space.

This study, rooted in patristics and social sciences, delves into the historical evolution of support for orphans and widows in the Christian and Catholic tradition, underscoring its profound significance in the identity of these faith-based communities. Tracing the modes of assistance from pre-Christian times through the Old and New Testaments and the teachings of the Church Fathers, the paper elucidates various aspects of the caregiving process. Additionally, it explores the evolving sensitivities across different epochs in modernity, encompassing the contemporary, postmodern and recent years, with a specific focus on the periods before, during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. In light of this analysis, a fundamental question arises: What are the primary pastoral responsibilities of Catholic parishes in Poland regarding support to individuals who have experienced the loss of loved ones, borne multiple losses or endured severe traumas (such as war refugees from Ukraine in local communities)? This work provides guidance to over 10,000 Catholic parishes in Poland, considering the context of an aging society and the lessons derived from the COVID-19 pandemic. It extends an invitation for further research and the initiation of practical endeavours by pastoral theologians and specialists in social and healthcare, to ensure the highest quality of care in parish communities and local societies.

Abstract The increasing demand for electricity in daily life highlights the need for Smart Cities (SC) to use energy efficiently. Both technical and Non‐Technical Losses (NTL), particularly those resulting from electricity theft, present powerful obstacles; NTL alone can reach billions of dollars. Although Machine Learning (ML) based approaches for NTL detection have been embraced by numerous utilities, there is still a lack of thorough analysis of these methods. Limited research exists on NTL identification evaluation criteria and unbalanced data management in the context of SC. This research compares ML algorithms and data balancing methods to optimize electricity consumption detection. The given research applied the 15 ML techniques of Logistic regression, Bernoulli naive Bayes, Gaussian naive Bayes, K‐Nearest Neighbour, perceptron, passive‐aggressive classifier, quadratic discriminant analysis, SGD classifier, ridge classifier, linear discriminant analysis, decision tree, nearest centroid classifier, multi‐nomial naive Bayes, complement naive Bayes and dummy classifier. While SMOTE, AdaSyn, NRAS, and CCR are considered for data balancing. AUC, F1‐score, and seven relevant performance metrics were used for comparison. We have also implemented SHapely Additive exPlanations (SHAP) for feature importance and model interpretation. Results show varying classifier performance with different balancing methods, emphasizing data preprocessing's role in NTL detection for smart grid security.

AbstractThe uncertainty of microgrid resources in power systems has increased, which implies many challenges for their design and planning. The penetration coefficient of microgrids in power systems, as well as the high uncertainty of these sources, requires an analysis of probabilistic methods. These types of energy sources are inherently uncertain and bring many unknowns to the power system. One of the most important aspects to be analyzed is the distribution of the probabilistic optimal power flow (POPF). This research examines some methods for the distribution of possible loads in power systems, namely the Monte Carlo method (MCM), the two-point estimation method (2PEM), and the three-point estimation method (3PEM). Then, these methods are used to distribute the possible POPF. This work studies the adjusted probability density function (PDF), average, and deviation of losses for each method. Moreover, the appropriate selection of microgrid resources is determined while considering correlated variables. In order to compare the effectiveness of the proposed methods, a 30-bus IEEE standard test system is used in the MATLAB software, showing that 2PEM is more suitable than the others. The results related to microgrids are executed by running P_OPF in buses 5, 7, and 8.According to the results, for bus 8, the possible load distribution value is 52.897 MW, which requires the placement of a wind power plant. For buses 2 and 5, the possible load distribution is less than 10 MW, which is predicted in these buses considering the solar power plant.

This work presents an LC filter design methodology that considers the optimization of the converter as a whole: filter, semiconductor switches, and DC bus. The optimization is made in light of the system losses, volume, and the capacitors lifetime, discussing the advantages and disadvantages of decisions in the parametric design of the filter (of the values of L and C). The technology of components and construction challenges are considered in the design. The manuscript guides the design process of the filter in two steps: first, by providing the means to perform the parametric sweep of possible filter designs, according to the converter specifications and other restrictions; second, by describing how the hardware design is carried out and indicating the models and methods that are being used. Individualized analyses for each part of the converter system are made, and using the proposed methodology, three design examples are provided and analyzed, each choosing the filter parameters with different objectives: minimum volume, maximum capacitor lifetime, or maximum efficiency. Results show that using Kool M μ$$ \upmu $$ material results in the lowest filter volumes and losses. It is also shown that for the DC bus design, there is a compromise between volume and lifetime, with a greater number of capacitors increasing both attributes. By designing the system using the proposed methodology, the minimum volume is achieved at an operating point that differs from the individual minimum volumes of the filter and the inverter, and the lifetime is only 1.78% than the maximum lifetime point. AbstractBackgroundMethodResultsConclusionMost previous studies on the distribution of gambling losses were based on self-reported data. In this study, we employed tracking data (i.e. electronic betting records) to examine the concentration of gambling losses and whether concentration varies by product type.Tracking data were provided by the Norwegian gambling monopolist, Norsk Tipping (NT). Data comprised of 14 different games for a random draw of 2% (N = 39 995) of all NT’s customers in 2019. We applied three measures of concentration of gambling losses: the mean to median ratio, the Gini coefficient, and the proportion of total losses accounted for by the upper 1%, 5% or 10% of those who gamble.Across the 14 games, the mean/median ratio was 2.22, ranging from 1.37 to 17.48 for the different games, whereas the overall Gini coefficient was 0.65, ranging from 0.55 to 0.90. The upper 1%, 5% and 10% of those who gamble accounted for 17.9% (range = 5.6 − 3 8.3%), 39.5% (range = 23.6 − 74.3%), and 52.2% (range = 37.9 − 86.9%) of the losses, respectively. High concentration of losses was especially pronounced for one type of lottery (Keno), two online casino games (KongKasino and Bingoria), and for two sports betting games (Oddsen and Tipping). These findings were consistent across measures.Overall, the results lend strong support to the notion that a disproportionately large fraction of gambling losses are accounted for by a relatively small minority of people and that concentration of losses varies by product type. Reconfiguration of the distribution network as well as the optimal use of distributed generation resources in the distribution system are very effective methods to reduce losses and improve the voltage profile or in other words power quality in the electricity distribution system. In recent years, researchers have paid attention to the use of distributed production resources. The use of these resources has several advantages, the most important of which are the reduction of network losses and the increase of voltage stability. In this study, a differential evolutionary algorithm is presented to solve the desired optimization problem to reduce losses and bus voltage deviation. On the other hand, since the system load is always changing and is not constant, therefore, for the simulation results to be close to the real conditions of the distribution network, it is suggested in this study that the uncertainty of the consumption load should also be modeled and applied to the optimization problem. The mentioned problem has different discrete and continuous variables, which necessitates the use of algorithms that can search in discrete and continuous spaces. Therefore, to overcome this issue and apply different constraints to the problem, the differential evolutionary algorithm has been used. The mentioned method has been tested on a standard 33-bus test network and the results have been compared in three different scenarios. In the second and third scenarios, reconfiguration of the distribution network has been resolved in the absence/presence of scattered production units (wind turbines) respectively. The results of the proposed method have been compared with other references. Introduction: Since 1999, Tunisia has experienced multiple occurrences of Bluetongue (BT) outbreaks, leading to numerous reported cases of infection and mortality in flocks. The re-emergence of the disease in 2020 caused substantial economic losses in cattle, attributed to the incursion of serotype BTV-4. Methods: To evaluate the economic impact of the recent BT episode, we conducted a retrospective study on outbreaks that occurred in Tunisia between August and November 2020, focusing on the impact at the owner's level and its effects on both small ruminants and cattle. A total of 234 ruminant farms (sheep, cattle, and mixed) were randomly selected across Tunisian governorates and included in the study to estimate both the direct and indirect costs of these outbreaks. Results: Total costs were calculated as the sum of losses and expenditures resulting from the BT outbreaks. At the animal level, total losses were estimated to range between 116.280 and 207.086 TND for one infected ewe (€33.721 and 60.055). For one lactating cow, costs varied between 2,590.724 and 3,171.107 TND (€751.310 and 919.621). In cattle, exposure to BTV led to a daily unit milk yield decrease of 12.50 to 14.66 L over an average period of 5 months. Diseased sheep experienced weight loss ranging between 4 and 10 kg during the BT outbreaks. The total mean cost of the 2020 BT outbreak in Tunisian investigated farms was estimated at 1,935 million TND (million €561.15) (range: 1,489 and 2,474 million TND; 431.81 and million €717.46). The most influential costs of the total BT outbreaks were the decrease in milk yield, mortality, and veterinary treatment. Discussion: This study gives valuable insights on the economic impact of the incursion of a new serotype of BT in a naive population in Tunisia. Considering the substantial costs incurred, it is imperative that this disease receives increased attention from stakeholders, including animal owners, veterinary services, practitioners, and decision-makers. This paper gives an overview of the operating characteristics of the railway interline power flow controller (RIPFC) regarding the capability of transferring active power between two sections of an electrified railway line separated by a neutral zone and proposes its use for compensating the power factor at the substation instead of regulating the voltage level at the neutral zone. The basic analysis is based on simplified steady-state models for the energy supply architecture, while detailed time-domain simulations are used for more realistic tests. The paper mainly focus on active power balancing between two neighbouring substations and the global losses in the system. Other functionalities of the RIPFC system are also analysed, like reactive power compensation at the substations. The paper presents the main operating principles of the system, shows results for some representative scenarios (generic and reduced) and discusses the results. The most relevant conclusions are related to substation active power balancing and peak shaving, power factor compensation in the substation, voltage stability at the neutral zone and system power losses. The role of non‐structural elements (NSEs) in the seismic performance of buildings has been highlighted in past years. Research studies following state‐of‐the‐art methodologies generally find that when the structural collapse is not of significant concern, NSEs tend to dominate the repair costs and financial investment required in a building. This paper examines field observations from interviews and data collected from commercial buildings via structural health monitoring (SHM) following the 2018 Osaka earthquake in Japan. It suggests that fragility functions used in current methodologies for estimating NSE damage may not be entirely representative of the in‐situ reality and possibly underestimate actual damage. Additionally, interviews with building owners/managers indicate that the alarm and financial impact of NSEs was not as critical as anticipated, with much of the observed NSE damage not of serious concern and tolerable in many cases. This article provides discussion and insight into possible causes for these differences before discussing how current methodologies can benefit from these observations. It is believed that many of the fragility functions currently used to estimate NSE damage may not be representative because of differences in installation conditions and loading protocols used in experimental testing, possible interaction with other elements, variability in the quality of workmanship during installation and possible wear, tear and degradation during service. On the other hand, it is seen how SHM data recorded during seismic events may provide valuable data for an alternative means to develop fragility functions. Furthermore, it is seen that when building recovery states (RSs) other than the implicitly assumed 'full recovery' state used in guidelines like FEMA P‐58 are explored, the role of NSEs in direct monetary losses significantly reduces. This coincides with the field observations in Japan regarding the impact of NSEs and supports the recent developments in functional recovery on what building owners and occupants are prepared to tolerate post‐earthquake. It indicates that when discussing the relative importance of different building performance groups, it is vital that the expected RS is also stated, as for most decision‐makers following major events, functionality rather than full recovery remains the primary goal; hence, repairs and proactive measures should bear this in mind for more effective use of resources. Introduction: Human decision-making pertaining to gains compared to those pertaining losses is shown to be quite different. However, mixed evidence is provided regarding the effect on the decision-makers' prosocial behaviors; that is, losses are shown to either increase or decrease prosocial behaviors. In this context, the effect of social norms on observed behavior can play a crucial role. Methods: To examine this aspect in more detail, we conducted incentivized ultimatum game experiments and analyzed data from three treatments, the control treatments (without specific norm focus), and two different norm-focus treatments (“average behavior” treatment and “self-interested behavior” treatment). In total, 550 participants took part in our experiment. Basically, we found no significant difference between the division of gains and losses in the “control” and “self-interested behavior” treatments. Results and discussion: However, we found such a difference in the “average behavior” treatment. In addition, we found that inducing a norm focus leads to less variance in proposers' behavior and a greater concentration of their demands around the induced norm in the “average behavior” treatment. In contrast, we found a higher variance in proposers' behavior in the “self-interested behavior” treatment. In terms of responders' behaviors, we observed a tendency toward a higher frequency of responders' rejections in the loss domain compared to the gains domain. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Apple production holds a prominent position in Morocco's Rosaceae family. However, annual production can fluctuate due to substantial losses caused by fungal diseases affecting stored apples. Our findings emphasize that the pre-storage treatment of apples, disinfection of storage facilities, box type, and fruit sorting are pivotal factors affecting apple losses during storage. Additionally, the adopted preservation technique was significantly correlated with the percentage of damage caused by fungal infections. Blue mold accounts for nearly three-quarters of the diseases detected, followed by gray rot with a relatively significant incidence. This study has revealed several fungal diseases affecting stored apples caused by pathogens such as Penicillium expansum, Botrytis cinerea, Alternaria alternata, Trichothecium roseum, Fusarium avenaceum, Cadophora malorum, and Neofabraea vagabunda. Notably, these last two fungal species have been reported for the first time in Morocco as pathogens of stored apples. These data affirm that the high losses of apples in Morocco, attributed primarily to P. expansum and B. cinerea, pose a significant threat in terms of reduced production and diminished fruit quality. This study focuses on determining the technical specifications and parameters of an all-electric passenger vehicle, modeling it according to these parameters, selecting the appropriate electric motor as a result of the modeling, and then designing and making a new 75 kW three-phase DC-AC converter (inverter) as per to automotive standards for the brushless DC motor used for vehicle propulsion. Three different power stage designs are conducted and compared. The system losses were calculated, and three variants of cooling systems were used for cooling the power stage to reduce losses. Performances of such cooling systems were compared. Air cooling, fan-assisted air cooling, and liquid cooling structures are designed for power stage cooling, and the performances of these three systems were compared. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The increasing demand for electricity in daily life highlights the need for Smart Cities (SC) to use energy efficiently. Both technical and Non‐Technical Losses (NTL), particularly those resulting from electricity theft, present powerful obstacles; NTL alone can reach billions of dollars. Although Machine Learning (ML) based approaches for NTL detection have been embraced by numerous utilities, there is still a lack of thorough analysis of these methods. Limited research exists on NTL identification evaluation criteria and unbalanced data management in the context of SC. This research compares ML algorithms and data balancing methods to optimize electricity consumption detection. The given research applied the 15 ML techniques of Logistic regression, Bernoulli naive Bayes, Gaussian naive Bayes, K‐Nearest Neighbour, perceptron, passive‐aggressive classifier, quadratic discriminant analysis, SGD classifier, ridge classifier, linear discriminant analysis, decision tree, nearest centroid classifier, multi‐nomial naive Bayes, complement naive Bayes and dummy classifier. While SMOTE, AdaSyn, NRAS, and CCR are considered for data balancing. AUC, F1‐score, and seven relevant performance metrics were used for comparison. We have also implemented SHapely Additive exPlanations (SHAP) for feature importance and model interpretation. Surface acoustic wave (SAW) resonators with an ultrahigh Q-factor are designed and fabricated on silicon-based gallium nitride (GaN/Si). The temperature-dependent performance is characterized over a wide range, from 10 to 500 K. Finite element analysis is employed to guide the design of the SAW resonator from indications of the Rayleigh mode and weak propagation direction dependence of SAW in the c-plane of GaN/Si. The SAW resonator with 100 pairs of interdigital transducers (IDT), 100 pairs of grating reflectors (GR) for each side, aperture size of 80 µm, metallization ratio of 0.5, and electrode width of 500 nm resonates at 1.9133 GHz accordingly with an ultrahigh Q-factor of 7622 at room temperature, which contributes the fr × Qr, up to 14.583×1012 Hz. A resonator operating over 10 to 500 K indicates an approximately linear decreasing temperature dependence above 280 K while being approximately constant below 40 K. The fitting to resonator characteristics using the modified Butterworth Van Dyke (mBVD) model reveals a reduction in both the electrode and mechanical losses while worsening the dielectric loss with cooling down. Purpose. There is a trend of transition from a purely centralized power supply to a combined one, the number of local decentralized sources of electricity directly in the distribution networks is increasing. Distribution electric networks are transformed into a network with features characteristic of a local electric system, which receives power both from its own distribution electric networks and from a centralized source. Renewable energy has a number of advantages, but there are also disadvantages. Among them - the complication of the operation of electric networks with the growth of the capacities of renewable sources of electricity installed in them and the instability of generation due to their natural dependence on meteorological conditions, if we talk about technical shortcomings, then this refers to the sinusoidal nature of voltages and currents and voltage deviations, ensuring the quality of electricity which directly depends on ensuring the balance of active and reactive power in the electrical system. The purpose of this article is to analyze the effectiveness of reactive power compensation devices as a tool for reducing the threshold of integration of distributed generation sources into the electrical networks of Ukraine. The task is to study the reduction of the integration threshold for distributed generation. Research methods. Mathematical modeling of an electrical system with distributed generation elements and reactive power compensation devices. The influence of the operation of reactive power compensation devices on the parameters of the electric network is studied. Comparative analysis of network parameters and their change when implementing distributed generation together with and without reactive power compensation devices. The results obtained. The obtained results show that the use of reactive power compensation devices makes it possible to increase the carrying capacity of operating power lines and transformers, which is especially important when most of the power system schemes where distributed generation is integrated are of radial type, i.e. it actually lowers the integration threshold for renewable generation in the electric network. A very important factor is that the introduction of reactive power compensation devices together with distributed generation solves the problem of stabilization and voltage loss in electric networks, and also improves the quality of electric energy. Scientific novelty. The method of selecting reactive power compensators for distribution networks has been further developed, which differs from the existing ones by taking into account the presence of renewable energy sources of various types, which allows to increase the efficiency of the interaction of the local electric network with the renewable generation integrated in it. Practical value. It consists in lowering the integration threshold of distributed generation sources into electric networks by introducing reactive power compensation devices together with them, which affects a number of technological parameters in the node - reduction of power and voltage losses, stabilization and control of voltage, improvement of electric power quality indicators.
