- Abstract
[EN] In the state of consciousness and patrimonial feeling in which Spanish society is today, a brief study and value of an industrial building with architectural, historical and social interest, such as the San Isidro Labrador flour factory of Camporrobles and, more in depth, of his movable assets that are inside. The knowledge of the flour industry of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and the origin and properties of cereal, are the starting point for the development of this research. Before addressing the study of the factory itself and the property inside, a brief analysis of the history of the mills is made, from its origin to the present. Next, the building is described. Its physical characteristics are exposed, its essence is crumbled and the process of production of the flour that was carried out inside is thoroughly described. This point of work development is reached, where an inventory of all the movable properties found inside the factory is made. This is intended to value the industrial heritage that encompasses the San Isidro Labrador flour factory, especially all the flour machinery there and what this meant for the small municipality of Camporrobles. Finally, and by way of comparison, other flour factories of the same era are exhibited, with the aim of having more complete information on the flour industry and, in a way, equating data within the flour trade.

1 Pag., Pennycress (Thlaspi arvense belongs to the Brassicaceae family and is closely related to the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana as well as other agronomical important plants such as rapeseed (Brassica napus), camelina (Camelina satva) or lepidium (Lepidium campestris). In additon to its extreme cold tolerance or over-wintering growth, Pennycress seeds have unique characteristcs in terms of seed-oil content (32-36% w) and compositon, with a high content (38-40%) of erucic acid (22:1). This has atracted the interest of Pennycress as biofuel feedstock because of the exceptonal low-temperature behaviour and energetc capacity characteristcs of its seed-oil. However, although Pennycress could be an atractve alternatve feedstock in Europe, partcularly in the Mediterranean region, it is not cultvated in the EU territory. In our Group we have characterized Pennycress germplasm of European origin and some interestng agronomical traits were detected. Genes involved in seed-oil, erucic acid biosynthesis in Pennycress were identfed, and their regulaton was studied during Pennycress seed maturaton.

Abstract Background Lowering of blood pressure by antihypertensive drugs reduces the risks of cardiovascular events, stroke, and total mortality. However, poor adherence to antihypertensive medications reduces their effectiveness and increases the risk of adverse events. In terms of relative risk reduction, an improvement in medication adherence could be as effective as the development of a new drug. Methods/Design The proposed randomized controlled trial will include patients with a low adherence to medication and uncontrolled blood pressure. The intervention group will receive a multifactorial intervention during the first, third, and ninth months, to improve adherence. This intervention will include motivational interviews, pill reminders, family support, blood pressure self-recording, and simplification of the dosing regimen. Measurement The primary outcome is systolic blood pressure. The secondary outcomes are diastolic blood pressure, proportion of patients with adequately controlled blood pressure, and total cost. Discussion The trial will evaluate the impact of a multifactorial adherence intervention in routine clinical practice. Ethical approval was given by the Ethical Committee on Human Research of Balearic islands, Spain (approval number IB 969/08 PI). Trial registration Current controlled trials ISRCTN21229328

- Abstract
Using a single size-exclusion chromatography we were able to isolate highly pure dimers and monomers of the Cyt b6f complex from spinach from a bulk preparation of that protein complex obtained with a standard procedure. At higher protein/detergent ratio during the chromatography most of the Cyt b6f complex remained as dimers. In contrast, at lower protein/detergent ratio (around 15 times lower), most dimers became monomerized. As a bonus, this chromatography also allowed the elimination of potential Chl a contaminant to the Cyt b6f preparations. SDS-PAGE protein analysis with 18% (w/v) acrylamide revealed the loss of the ISP subunit in our monomeric preparation. However, it fully retained the content of Chl a, a prerequisite to perform any spectroscopic study involving this unique pigment.

Background: Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) is a chronic neuropathic pain that results from alterations of the peripheral nervous system in areas affected by the herpes zoster virus. The symptoms include pain, paresthesia, dysesthesia, hyperalgesia, and allodynia. Despite the availability of pharmacological treatments to control these symptoms, no treatments are available to control the underlying pathophysiology responsible for this disabling condition.Methods/design: Patients with herpes zoster who are at least 50 years old and have a pain score of 4 or higher on a visual analogue scale (VAS) will be recruited. The aim is to recruit 134 patients from the practices of general physicians. Participants will be randomized to receive gabapentin to a maximum of 1800 mg/day for 5 weeks or placebo. Both arms will receive 1000-mg caplets of valacyclovir three times daily for 7 days (initiated within 72 h of the onset of symptoms) and analgesics as needed. The primary outcome measure is the percentage of patients with a VAS pain score of 0 at 12 weeks from rash onset. The secondary outcomes measures are changes in quality of life (measured by the SF-12 questionnaire), sleep disturbance (measured by the Medical Outcomes Study Sleep Scale), and percentage of patients with neuropathic pain (measured by the Douleur Neuropathique in 4 Questions).Discussion: Gabapentin is an anticonvulsant type of analgesic that could prevent the onset of PHN by its antihypersensitivity action in dorsal horn neurons.Trial Registration: ISRCTN Registry identifier: ISRCTN79871784 . - Abstract
Introduction: Insomnia is the most common sleep disorder, and it adversely impacts daily living and increases the risk of chronic and acute health problems. Of the few individuals who seek treatment for insomnia, most pursue help in primary care settings. The management of insomnia most commonly focuses on the prescription of hypnotics and sleep hygiene recommendations, although these are not the most effective treatments. Conversely, cognitive-behavioural therapy for insomnia (CBT-i), which is considered to be the first-line treatment for persistent insomnia, is seldom prescribed by primary care physicians (PCPs) or primary care nurses (PCNs). The hesitancy of these professionals to provide CBT-i is mainly attributed to their heavy workloads and the difficulties in acquiring the skills needed to administer this intervention., Methods and Analysis: A two-arm cluster-randomised study (in which patients are assigned to a PCP or PCN) will be conducted in primary health centres of Majorca Island (Spain). A total of 206 patients will be recruited. Healthcare professionals will be allocated to the intervention or control group in a 1:1 ratio. The intervention group will receive CBT-i and the control group will receive usual care. We will include patients with Insomnia Severity Index scores of 8 or more who also report that insomnia interferes with daily functioning or is noticeable to others. The CBT-i will consist of four individual structured sessions, three in person (20 min each) and one by telephone (10 min) that are administered at intervals of 2-3 weeks. An additional session will be provided for patients taking hypnotic medications. The primary outcome measure is the decrease in sleep latency, which will be measured with the Pittsburg Sleep Quality index at 6 months and 12 months., Ethics and Dissemination: This project was approved by the Ethical Committee of the Balearic Islands (IB 4604/21 PI) and the Primary Care Research Committee of the Department of Majorca Primary Care (PI19/24). All participants are required to provide written informed consent and no study-related procedures will be performed until consent is obtained. The trial results will be published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at conferences., Trial Registration Number: ISRCTN10144646., Competing Interests: Competing interests: None declared., (© Author(s) (or their employer(s)) 2024.
