Abstract

Unlike the consumer industry, biopharma, medical technology, and wellness companies have struggled to build meaningful, personalized patient and healthcare professional (HCP) experiences. The increase in drug launches and growing competition across therapy areas has made it challenging for brands and organizations to stand out from the crowd, whether for new molecules vs. legacy brands in an established treatment area and their generic counter-parts or for new molecules in a rare disease where trust is not yet earned. The customers’ needs and preferences are changing at lightning speed. The hierarchy of engagement has transformed, disrupting the dynamic between patients and healthcare professionals. Studies (1, 2) show that drug marketers too often turn various aspects of their product profile into signals – and may inadvertently “reinforce the habitual behavior the marketer is trying to change”. We encourage pharmaceutical companies to use a “data-driven approach to uncover new opportunities for growth” and improvement, and we’re committed to delivering results that make a difference for the patient, HCPs and for the system (value-based healthcare approach). Applying the Brand Leadership Circle, a new strategic tool, will help understand the patients’ journey and other stakeholders’ needs to implement successful approaches in marketing, communications and services using systematic research methods and techniques. Abstract

The rapid evolution of technology has fostered an exponential rise in the number of individuals and devices interconnected via the Internet. This interconnectedness has prompted companies to expand their computing and communication infrastructures significantly to accommodate the escalating demands. However, this proliferation of connectivity has also opened new avenues for cyber threats, emphasizing the critical need for Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs) to adapt and operate efficiently in this evolving landscape. In response, companies are increasingly seeking IDSs characterized by horizontal, modular, and elastic attributes, capable of dynamically scaling with the fluctuating volume of network data flows deemed essential for effective monitoring and threat detection. Yet, the task extends beyond mere data capture and storage; robust IDSs must integrate sophisticated components for data analysis and anomaly detection, ideally functioning in real-time or near real-time. While Machine Learning (ML) techniques present promising avenues for detecting and mitigating malicious activities, their efficacy hinges on the availability of high-quality training datasets, which in turn poses a significant challenge. This paper proposes a comprehensive solution in the form of an architecture and reference implementation for (near) real-time capture, storage, and analysis of network data within a 1 Gbps network environment. Performance benchmarks provided offer valuable insights for prototype optimization, demonstrating the capability of the proposed IDS architecture to meet objectives even under realistic operational scenarios. Abstract

Planning classes that guarantee people with intellectual disabilities access to digital resources is a challenge and requires some personalities because they have different individualities and abilities. This work presents the conception of the learning environment based on Gagné's instructional theory, which provides gradual and individualized teaching to students with intellectual disabilities. The environment was implemented for use on mobile devices and allows the dynamic insertion of activities, in any domain, organized in hierarchical levels. This research is classified as a survey, because it was intended to assess, through the application of the environment, the strengths that the student with intellectual and moderate level disabilities presents when using a mobile digital resource as a teaching strategy allowing their digital inclusion. As a result, it was noted that the use of this environment is feasible, because it allowed the learner to use devices, respecting individuality in the execution of activities and motivated students to continue activities by providing forms of incentive.

Abstract

Dissertação de mestrado em Engenharia Industrial (ramo Avaliação e Gestão de Projetos e da Inovação), Esta dissertação, desenvolvida a fim de concluir o Mestrado em Engenharia Industrial, desenrolou-se em ambiente industrial na empresa Balanças Marques. Os objetivos desta dissertação foram: intervir no planeamento e processo de montagem e expedição de mono-células e no armazém do serviço pós-venda com recurso à metodologia lean, princípios e ferramentas. Os principais obstáculos detetados prenderam-se com a ausência de cultura lean, a falta de organização e rentabilização dos espaços físicos e procedimentos, a elevada dependência do conhecimento empírico dos colaboradores na gestão e execução de tarefas e a necessidade de incrementar a qualidade do componente tampo do produto mono-células. Numa perspetiva de melhoria do armazém do departamento de assistência técnica procedeu-se à limpeza e reorganização do mesmo, definiu-se um novo layout; criaram-se normas de utilização e desenhou-se um fluxo para os produtos que permitiu uma monitorização constante dos mesmos. Ao nível do planeamento de encomendas de matéria-prima para o produto em estudo, implementou-se um sistema kanban, para melhorar a comunicação e gestão do stock. Relativamente às melhorias no processo de montagem, rentabilizou-se e reorganizou-se o espaço em altura da secção de montagem, de modo a diminuir as distâncias percorridas pelo operador de montagem e possibilitar que outros, além do operador, consigam localizar material e auferir stocks. Criaram-se, ainda, fichas de instrução de montagem, para um melhor controlo da qualidade do processo e uma redução da dependência do conhecimento empírico do operador para a sua execução. A subcontratação do componente tampo permitiu, além das melhorias nos acabamentos, o aumento da produção de básculas. As propostas apresentadas permitiram o aumento de, aproximadamente, 40% do espaço de armazenamento no armazém da assistência; uma poupança de 830 euros anuais com a uniformização e redução de distâncias no processo de montagem, e um aumento anual de cerca de 160 mil euros na faturação, com o aumento da produção de básculas., This dissertation developed in order to complete the Master in Industrial Engineering, took place in an industrial environment in the company Balanças Marques. This dissertation hád the following objectives: intervene in the planning and assembly process and dispatch of mono-cells and in the after-sales service warehouse using lean methodology, principles and tools. The main problems detected were related with the absence of lean culture, the lack of organization and profitability of physical infrastructures and procedures, the high dependence on the empirical knowledge of employees in the management and execution of tasks, and the need to increase the quality of the cover component of the mono-cells product. In order to improve the technical assistance department warehouse, it was proposed to clean and reorganize it; define a new layout, create usage rules; and to design a flow for the products, which allows for their frequent monitoring. In terms of planning raw material orders for the product under study, a kanban system was implemented to improve communication and stock management. As far as improvements in the assembly process are concerned, the assembly section's height space was made profitable, the space was reorganized in order to reduce the distances covered by the assembly operator and to allow other employees, besides the operator, to locate material and check stocks. Assembly instruction sheets were created to better control the quality of the process and reduce the dependence on the operator's empirical knowledge for its execution. The subcontracting of the cover component has allowed, in addition to improvements in the finishes, an increase in the production of bascules. The proposals presented allow for some improvements: the possibility of increasing storage space in the service warehouse by 40%, savings of 830 euros a year with the standardization and reduction of distances in the assembly process; and an annual increase in turnover of 160,950 euros, with increased production of bascules.

Abstract

Many clinical studies are greatly dependent on an efficient identification of relevant datasets. This selection can be performed in existing health data catalogues, by searching for available metadata. The search process can be optimised through questioning-answering interfaces, to help researchers explore the available data present. However, when searching the distinct catalogues the lack of metadata harmonisation imposes a few bottlenecks. This paper presents a methodology to allow semantic search over several biomedical database catalogues, by extracting the information using a shared domain knowledge. The resulting pipeline allows the converted data to be published as FAIR endpoints, and it provides an end-user interface that accepts natural language questions.
