Dissertação de Mestrado Integrado em Arquitetura apresentada na Faculdade de Arquitetura da Universidade de Lisboa para obtenção de grau de Mestre. Com o desenvolvimento urbano e industrial, várias quintas dos arredores de Lisboa foram sendo abandonadas, em especial quando a atividade agrícola, que justificava a sua presença, deixa de ser economicamente interessante. A falta de manutenção e os fatores naturais de degradação das várias estruturas arquitetónicas foram originando ruínas, perdidas no tempo. É neste cenário que se encontra a Quinta do Monteiro-Mor, situada na freguesia de Vialonga, no concelho de Vila Franca de Xira. Perante esta realidade, o presente trabalho final de mestrado, tem os seguintes objetivos: refletir acerca da importância de reabilitar e requalificar o património arquitetónico, quando este chega até nós sob a forma de fragmentação; a procura de uma estratégia de intervenção adequada que permita inserir o que resta do edificado da Quinta do Monteiro-Mor num contexto moderno, adaptado à sua envolvente, mantendo o significado do lugar, a sua memória e a sua identidade, garantindo também, a sua sobrevivência e persistência no futuro; e, por último, compreender como é que a memória se pode apresentar como apoio à estratégia de intervenção, numa proposta de reabilitação e requalificação, a fim de conservar o património construído, justificando-se assim o título Valor de memória e conservação do património construído. Tendo por base estes objetivos, procedeu-se à análise do território, à elaboração de medições e levantamentos, através da observação direta e visitas ao lugar, do registo fotográfico e de pesquisa bibliográfica, bem como à análise de casos de referência relacionados com as questões de reabilitação e estratégias de intervenção pretendidas e, posteriormente, os casos de referência relacionados com as questões programáticas. Após esta fase de análise partiu-se para o estudo de uma intervenção e de um programa que refletissem o que a Quinta do Monteiro-Mor foi em tempos, tendo por base a análise da memória arquitetónica e da memória não arquitetónica respetivamente, uma vez que se pretendeu que a nova intervenção estabelecesse uma relação intrínseca com a história do lugar, chegando-se assim a uma proposta de um novo uso para esta quinta: um centro equestre. ABSTRACT: With urban and industrial development, several farms around Lisbon were being abandoned, especially when the agricultural activity, which justified their presence, is no longer economically interesting. The lack of maintenance and the natural factors of degradation of the several architectural structures were giving rise to ruins, lost in time. This is the scenario that we found in Quinta do Monteiro-Mor, located in the parish of Vialonga, in the municipality of Vila Franca de Xira. Due to this reality, the presente master thesis has the following goals to reflect about the importance of rehabilitation and requalication of the architectural heritage, when it reaches us in the shape of fragmentation; the search for an appropriate intervention strategy that allows the buildings of Quinta do Monteiro-Mor to be inserted in a modern context, adapted to its surroundings, maintaining the meaning of the place, its memory and its identity, also guaranteeing its survival and persistence in the future; and, at least, to understand how memory can be present as support to the intervention strategy, in a proposal of rehabilitation and requalification, in order to preserve the built heritage, thus justifying the title Memory value and conservation of the built heritage. Based on these goals, I’ve proceeded with the analysis of the territory, the preparation of measurements and surveys, through the direct observation and visits to the place, a photographic register and bibliographical research, as well as the analyses of reference cases related to the issues of rehabilitation and intervention strategies, and then the reference cases related to programmatic issues. After this phase of analyses I’ve started to study an intervention and for a program that reflected what Quinta do Monteiro-Mor was, based on the analysis of the architectural memory and non-architectural memory respectively, since the new intervention was intended to established an intrinsic relation with the history of the place. Through this came a proposition of a new use for this farm: an equestrian centre. N/A

Na margem do rio Guadiana, numa região fronteiriça do Alentejo Central, a Fortaleza de Juromenha, assume-se como memória do passado. Apresenta vestígios de ocupação romana, visigótica, islâmica e cristã. Foi uma das principais praças de defesa nacional. Com um grande valor patrimonial e histórico, intrínsecos, degradou-se ao longo dos tempos até ao estado de ruína. Perante tal realidade, o presente trabalho final de mestrado analisa e propõe um método de Valorização do Património Arquitetónico Militar. A metodologia ponderou entre construir para a fortificação ou construir para o público, procurando dar uma resposta assente num equilíbrio sustentável entre ambos. O projeto restaura para preservar e conservar, e reabilita para oferecer uma nova vida e educar. Procura uma solução sustentável, cruzando os valores culturais e paisagísticos do lugar, com um novo uso, turístico, que possa atrair visitantes e gerar desenvolvimento. O cruzamento de análises realizadas, conduziu a um projeto de arquitetura, do qual farão parte uma pousada, um restaurante, um percurso projetado pelas ruínas interiores e a recuperação de pré existências, como a Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora do Loreto. A preservação da Fortaleza de Juromenha, com o apoio do programa projetado, permitirá a manutenção dos valores existentes, fazendo uma ponte entre passado, presente e futuro, sendo ponto de partida para a regeneração da própria Vila. ABSTRACT: In the bank of the river Guadiana, in a border region of the central Alentejo, the Juromenha Fortress, assumes itself as memory of the past. Presents traces of Roman occupation, Visigothic, Islamic and Christian. It was one of the main squares of national defense. With a great patrimonial and historical value inntrinsic, it degraded itself over time to the state of ruin. In view of this reality, the presnet final master’s work analyzes and proposes a method of Valuing the Military Architectural Heritage. The methodology pondered between building the fortification or building for the public, seeking to give an answer based on a sustainable balance between them. The project restores to preserve and conserve, and rehabilits to offer a new life and educate. It seeks a sustainable solution, crossing the cultural and landscape values of the place, with a new use, touristic, which can attract visitors and generate development. The intersection of analyses carried out, led to an architectural project, of wich will be part of an inn, a restaurant, a designed path by the the interior ruins and the recovery of the pre existences, like the Matriz de Nossa Senhora do Loreto’s Church. The preservation of the Juromenha Fortress, with the support of the program designed, will allow the maintenance of existing values, making a bridge between the past, present and future, being the starting point for the regeneration of the village itself. O turismo é um fenómeno com impacto crescente em Portugal e a atividade turística constitui uma ferramenta fundamental, em termos de crescimento económico e de desenvolvimento sociocultural, no nosso país. O seu acentuado crescimento, nos últimos tempos, torna imperiosa a necessidade de se conceberem e operacionalizaram novas estratégias e apoios, para dar resposta às necessidades dos turistas. A relevância da arquitetura, neste domínio, advém do seu carácter de atividade de suporte que, através da criação de novos programas organizativos, permite valorizar os inúmeros recursos existentes em Portugal e, em particular, no Baixo Alentejo, onde se vai ancorar este caso de estudo. O presente estudo visa a reabilitação do antigo Palácio dos Maldonados, edifício do séc. XVIII, situado no centro histórico da cidade de Beja, qualificando-o para um novo uso - uma Escola de Hotelaria e Turismo e Hotel de Aplicação. Deste modo, o projeto pretende pôr em destaque o importante património da antiga Pax Julia e, assim, contribuir para ampliar a relevância da cidade, na região do Alentejo. ABSTRACT: Tourism is a phenomenon with a growing impact in Portugal and the touristic activity is a fundamental tool in terms of economic growth and socio-cultural development in our country. Its strong growth in recent times makes imperative the need to design and operationalize new strategies and support to meet the needs of tourists. The relevance of architecture in this area comes from its nature of supporting activity which, through the creation of new organizational programs, allows to value the numerous resources in Portugal and, in particular, in Baixo Alentejo, where this study will be done. The present proposal aims the rehabilitation of the old Palácio dos Maldonados, a building of the XVIII century, located in the historical center of the city of Beja, qualifying it for a new use - a school of hotel and tourism courses. In this way, the project aims to highlight the important heritage of the old Pax Julia and, thus, contribute to increase the relevance of this city in the region of Alentejo. N/A

Com a decadência de um ciclo industrial, Lisboa Oriental entrou em declínio, assumindo-se atualmente como um território segregado e marginalizado, degradando-se ao longo dos tempos. Perante tal realidade, o presente trabalho final de mestrado estuda e propõe uma estratégia de projeto arquitetónico para o Vale de Chelas, com incidência na antiga fábrica da Samaritana, baseada numa metodologia que avaliou as necessidades e principais problemas existentes, para os quais se procurou dar resposta, nomeadamente: ao nível urbanístico e social e no âmbito da preservação do património industrial e qualificação arquitetónica. Justifica-se assim o título Memória em Transição posto que se identifica em Chelas o valor de memória de um passado industrial e se procura através de uma estratégia arquitetónica e urbana uma nova centralidade na cidade de Lisboa. O cruzamento das várias análises realizadas ao longo da investigação conduziu ao desenvolvimento de um plano urbano, uma (re) interpretação do local, sendo proposta a articulação do meio urbano com o meio natural: o novo Parque Verde Oriental de Lisboa. A preservação do património industrial através da arquitetura, em articulação com os objetivos ambientais, permite a manutenção dos valores culturais e de memória existentes para fruição das gerações futuras, resultante de uma memória em transição, uma ponte entre o passado e futuro. ABSTRACT: With the industrial cycle decay, Eastern Lisbon went into decline, currently assuming itself as a segregated and marginalized territory, deteriorating over time. Regarding this reality, this final work of Master’s Degree studies and proposes a strategy for an architectural project for the Chelas Valley, focusing on the former Samaritana factory, based on a methodology that assessed the necessities and main existing problems, for which this work sought to address, in particular: at the urban and social level and within the context of industrial heritage preservation and architectural qualification. It justifies the title Memory in Transition since it is identifies in Chelas, the memory value of an industrial past and is sought through an architectural and urban strategy a new centrality at the city of Lisbon. The cross-checking of the most analysis throughout the investigation led to the development of an urban plan, a reinterpretation of the place, being proposed a link between the urban and the natural environment: the new Green Eastern Park of Lisbon. The industrial heritage preservation through architecture, linked with environmental goals, allows a support of the cultural and memory values being in future generations, resulting from a memory in transition, a bridge between the past and the future. Dissertação de Mestrado Integrado em Arquitetura, com a especialização em Arquitetura apresentada na Faculdade de Arquitetura da Universidade de Lisboa para obtenção do grau de Mestre. A noção de património cultural tem vindo a compreender um espectro de ob-jectos cada vez mais diversificado. A abrangência ao património dito industrial veio dar reconhecimento à salvaguarda de um testemunho ameaçado, mas com validade histórica que urge preservar e integrar num novo ciclo de vida. Em Lisboa, os processos de desindustrialização da segunda metade do sé-culo XX condenaram ao abandono e à ruína um importante legado construído e identitário do seu território oriental. Hoje, a tendência que se verifica é a exploração do potencial artístico e cultural destes espaços, com vista a rege-neração e desenvolvimento social, económico e cultural destas áreas fragili-zadas. O presente trabalho pretende sustentar uma proposta de reabilitação dos es-paços da antiga Fábrica da Samaritana, em Xabregas, através da criação de um pólo musical. O grande objectivo da investigação passa por reflectir na proposta arquitectónica a necessidade de compreender os valores e preser-vação do património industrial e de activar através da arquitectura uma ideia de relação mútua com a música. Ao investigar o conceito de património in-dustrial, a leitura do território e as relações de aproximação das duas artes definiu-se um projecto onde arquitectura e música concorrem para a valoriza-ção da pré-existência e do local. ABSTRACT: The notion of cultural heritage has been extended to an increasingly diverse range of objects. The inclusion of industrial heritage has given recognition to the protection of a threatened testimony with historical importance that must be preserved and integrated into a new life cycle. In Lisbon, the deindustriali-zation processes of the second half of the 20th century condemned an im-portant built and identity legacy of its eastern territory to dereliction and ruin. Nowadays, exploring the artistic and cultural potential of these spaces has contributed to the regeneration and social, economic and cultural development of these fragile areas. This research intends to support a proposal for the rehabilitation of the former Fábrica da Samaritana, in Xabregas, through the creation of a musical school. The research’s main goal is to translate into the architectural proposal the need to understand the values and preservation of the industrial heritage and to ac-tivate through architecture an idea of mutual relationship with music. Investi-gating the concept of industrial heritage, reading the territory and understand-ing the relationship between the two arts allowed the design of a project where architecture and music converge to the valorization of the place. O título ‘Da reminiscência agrícola à memória industrial’ deriva da conjugação de duas pré-existências que ainda coabitam no Vale de Chelas. Ao aprofundar o tema da reabilitação industrial na zona oriental de Lisboa é inevitável a associação da ruralidade eminente com a indústria de primeira geração, como é o caso da Tinturaria Portugália, edifício sobre a qual surgirá a proposta de intervenção e revitalização. O principal objetivo parte de inserir a fábrica na paisagem da cidade contemporânea, não ocultando os seus valores e a sua memória, tanto pela permanência das gentes que ‘habitavam’ a indústria nos bairros operários, que ainda persistem, como pela importância da transmissão do testemunho de uma época e de um passado que tornou a cidade naquilo que ela é atualmente. Esta lembrança e legado estarão presentes na arquitetura, nos percursos a desenvolver, e manutenção da ruralidade que permanece. Simultaneamente, existe um desejo de conjugar o edifício e a envolvente, de forma a criar uma relação mútua e imprescindível, em que um complementa o outro. Deste modo a função da Tinturaria e a sua interlocução com uma nova ruralidade, capaz de responder a problemas da cidade contemporânea, poderão produzir uma nova vivência e atratividade para o lugar, e ‘reabitar’ um território devoluto e esquecido, com diversas qualidades. O propósito da intervenção será potencializar então a ruína industrial, criando um diálogo entre memória do edifício, lugar e as ideologias e práticas atuais da sociedade moderna, ou seja, uma interlocução entre o passado e o presente, produzindo um conteúdo substancial e único para a cidade. ABSTRACT: The title 'From agricultural reminiscence to industrial memory' derives from the combination of two pre-existences that still cohabit in the Chelas Valley. When deepening the theme of industrial rehabilitation in the eastern zone of Lisbon is inevitable the association of eminent rurality with the first generation industry, as is the case of the Tinturaria Portugália, building on which will arise the proposal of intervention and revitalization. The main goal is to insert the factory in the landscape of the contemporary city, not hiding its values and memory, both by the permanence of the people who lived in the industrial neighborhoods that still persist, and the importance of the transmission of the testimony of a time and a past that made the city what it is today. This memory and legacy will be present in the architecture, in the routes to develop, and maintenance of the rurality that remains. Simultaneously, there is a desire to combine the building and the surrounding, in order to create a mutual and indispensable relationship, in which one complements the other. In this way the function of Tinturaria and its interlocution with a new rurality, able to respond to problems of the contemporary city, will be able to produce a new life and attractiveness to the place, and re-inhabit a devolute and forgotten territory with diverse qualities. The purpose of the intervention will be to enhance industrial ruin, creating a dialogue between the building's memory, place and the current ideologies and practices of modern society, that is, an interlocution between the past and the present, producing a substantial and unique content for the City. Dissertação de Mestrado Integrado em Arquitetura, com a especialização em Arquitetura apresentada na Faculdade de Arquitetura da Universidade de Lisboa para obtenção do grau de Mestre. Este trabalho tem como objectivo a utilização do conceito de Coesão Territorial como ferramenta de prospecção para intervenções à escala da freguesia, tendo por base estudos aplicados a outras escalas territoriais. Em particular, este trabalho examina a relevância do conceito, contextualizando-o e caracterizando-o, e aborda as suas principais dimensões. Paralelamente, é usado o território da Freguesia de Marvila como caso de estudo, incidindo sobre acontecimentos históricos com impacto económico, social, urbanístico, político, etc. Este trabalho propõe ainda um modelo de análise que visa medir o nível de coesão territorial da freguesia face ao município onde está inserida, de modo a expor efectivamente as necessidades mais prementes na persecução da coesão territorial. ABSTRACT: This work aims to use the concept of Territorial Cohesion as a prospective tool for interventions at the parish level, based on studies applied to other territorial scales. In particular, this work examines the relevance of the concept, contextualizing it and characterizing it, and addresses its main dimensions. In parallel, the territory of the Parish of Marvila is used as a case study, focusing on historical events with economic, social, urban, political, etc., impact. This work also proposes a model of analysis that aims to measure the level of territorial cohesion of the parish vis-a-vis the municipality where it is inserted, in order to effectively expose the most pressing needs in the pursuit of territorial cohesion N/A
