Cet article explore la relation entre l'écriture de Bufalino et le monde des arts visuels ; un nœud thématique qui, depuis sa jeunesse, l'a incité à donner forme à son écriture. Ces pages soulignent également comment l'écrivain évolue dans une tradition très riche, dont il est en grande partie l'héritier : le fil qui relie la "triade sicilienne" - Sciascia Bufalino Consolo - au réalisme du XIXe siècle et le rapport entre les véristes siciliens aux arts visuels. L’articolo, dopo aver esaminato brevemente l’essenziale rapporto con il cinema e la fotografia dello scrittore di Comiso, si concentra sull’analisi delle ultime opere ‘giallistiche’ per decriptare, attraverso una serie di esempi, gli indizi che lo riconducono nell’alveo di questa tradizione. This contribution explores the relationship of Bufalino's writing to the world of the visual arts; a thematic knot that since his youth prompts him to give shape to his writing. These pages also emphasize how the writer moves within a very rich tradition, of which he is largely heir: to the thread that links the " Sicilian triad " - Sciascia Bufalino Consolo - to nineteenth-century realism and to the relationship that links the Sicilian verists to the visual arts. The article, after briefly examining the essential relationship with cinema, photography and graphic arts of the writer from Comiso, focuses on the analysis of his last 'detective' works in order to decrypt, through a series of examples, the clues that lead him back into the fold of this tradition.

International audience; This essay is based on recent discovery of the score of La Chasse au Loup, an opera version of Verga’s sketch successfully performed in Belgium during the First World War and then forgotten. The author traces the history of numerous versions of the sketch, from the short story to the theatrical piece, the reflections of contemporary hi‑ storical and social context, and finally the French translation and its success beyond Alps. Caccia al lupo was in fact the only Verga’s work that gained international fa‑ me even before it was performed in Italy. It was in this positive climate that the mu‑ sical transposition of 1915 by the Belgian musician Alfred Goffin took place. Cu‑ riously, despite its success and positive reception, the work had no echo in Verga’s critics and almost certainly even Verga was not aware of its existence; Questo saggio prende spunto dal recente ritrovamento dello spartito de La Chasse au Loup, versione operistica del bozzetto verghiano, rappresentata con successo in Belgio durante il primo conflitto mondiale e poi dimenticata. L’autore ripercor‑ re la storia delle numerose versioni del bozzetto, dalla novella alla pièce teatrale, i riflessi del contesto storico‑sociale dell’epoca, infine la traduzione francese e i successi oltralpe: Caccia al lupo è stata infatti l’unica opera verghiana ad avere un riconoscimento internazionale ancor prima che nella penisola. In questo clima fa‑ vorevole si situa la trasposizione musicale del 1915 dovuta al musicista belga Al‑ fred Goffin; curiosamente l’opera, nonostante i successi e la favorevole accoglien‑ za critica dell’epoca, non ha lasciato nessun’eco nella critica verghiana e quasi cer‑ tamente non fu conosciuta neppure dal maestro catanese.

Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) in elderly patients is challenging and it may have a strong impact on patients’ quality of life. In this study we evaluated whether personal, clinical, or gender-related variables may influenceDiabetes Specific Quality of Life(DSQoL) and locus of control (LOC) scores in a group of 100 elderly T2D outpatients (60% men, 40% women; mean age 72 years) on oral hypoglycaemic drugs and in good metabolic control (mean HbA1c 6.7%). Overall, women showed a greater cognitive impairment and a lower autonomy in daily lifeas compared to men. Mean DSQoL scores indicated a good quality of life, with a lower level of satisfaction in women (P=0.009).As for LOC, there was a high prevalence of the internal domain, indicating that these subjects had a good awareness of their own role in diabetes’s management. Women reached lower scores in the LOC external domain, suggesting that external factors were perceived as less important determinants of diabetes’ control in elderly women as compared to men (P=0.048). After stratifying all study variables according to QoL and LOC domains, only diabetes duration and hypoglycemic episodes were significantly associated with QoL, whereas only gender and the number of outpatient visits during the previous two years were associated with LOC domains. International audience; Les articles de ce numéro de Transalpina visent à approfondir la connaissance de la réception européenne de l’œuvre de l’écrivain sicilien Giovanni Verga (1840-1922), principal représentant du mouvement vériste, notamment par l’étude de ses traductions et adaptations. Alors que ses romans et nouvelles ont été des sources d’inspiration dans tous les domaines artistiques (musique, théâtre, cinéma) et ont exercé une influence considérable sur la culture ainsi que dans les débats sur le réalisme et le naturalisme européens, il manque une enquête systématique et globale sur les contextes de traduction et d’adaptation internationale des œuvres de Verga, à la fois historiques et éditoriaux, ainsi que sur les choix linguistiques et stylistiques opérés par ses traducteurs. En tenant compte des difficultés posées par la traduction de l’italien « sicilianisé » et par le caractère exceptionnel de la « langue ethnicisée » de Verga, ses œuvres sont ici analysées dans un cadre interlinguistique et transmédiatique afin de dévoiler leur capacité inépuisable à se renouveler, même au-delà des frontières de l’espace italophone et des médias

La buona professione ha le sue basi nella conoscenza della materia e nell’impegno (e nella fatica) di tenerla aggiornata. Ma, nella pratica quotidiana, molto contano anche altri tesori, accumulati, giorno dopo giorno, attraverso il continuo embricarsi del sapere con l’esperienza personale. È questa personalissima, individuale, ricchezza che costituisce in concreto la nostra identità professionale. E che ci aiuta a utilizzare il sapere stesso nel modo più efficace (trucchi del mestiere), a svolgere la professione in maniera pronta (colpo d’occhio) e ancor più a farlo con sicurezza: sapendo evitare (o riducendo al massimo del possibile) gli errori che più comunemente vengono commessi. Questo testo si propone di condividere un po’ dell’esperienza macinata dagli autori, tradotta in messaggi e promemoria pratici, direttamente fruibili. Può essere letto a piccole dosi, un trucco o una diagnosi a colpo d’occhio o un errore alla volta. E forse conviene farlo proprio così. Ogni argomento è presentato, già dal titolo, quasi come uno slogan. Ma viene anche approfondito con la discussione di un caso reale o qualche nota ed esperienza della letteratura. Conciso e completo nello stesso tempo.

Cold-induce urticaria, a subtype of physical urticaria, is characterized by the appearance of wheals after the exposure to cold. There are two main types of cold-induce urticaria: the most common is the typical one, which is characterized by a positive cold stimulation test, whereas the atypical one has a negative or abnormal response to this test. In the typical form, wheals appear only in the area of contact with the cold stimuli, instead in the atypical form they can develop also in other areas. In both forms, systemic symptoms could be present up to anaphylactic shock. Antihistamines are the therapy of choice, but in more severe cases steroids and epinephrine should be used. Prevention is essential and consists in avoiding sudden exposition to cold; in known risk situations, prophylaxis with antihistamines could be useful. Some cases are described as part of our experience to understand atypical systemic cold urticaria better.

Protracted bacterial bronchitis (PBB) is a wet, “smoker-like” cough that persists more than 4 weeks (chronic, not remitting cough) and promptly responds to an appropriate antimicrobial treatment. Although it is the most common cause of chronic cough, it did not feature in paediatric textbooks until very recently and has remained largely unrecognised and often misdiagnosed as asthma. The paper highlights the main clinical features of PBB and the diagnostic difficulties physicians can face through some patients’ stories.
