Generation of mechanical squeezing has attracted a lot of interest for its nonclassical properties, applications in quantum information, and high-sensitivity measurement. Here we propose a detuning-switched method that can rapidly generate strong and stationary mechanical squeezing. The pulsed driving can dynamically transpose the optomechanical coupling into a linear optical force and maintain an effective mechanical frequency, which can introduce strong mechanical squeezing in a short time. Moreover, we show the obtained strong mechanical squeezing can be frozen by increasing the pulse intervals, leading to stationary mechanical squeezing with a fixed squeezing angle. Thus, our proposal provides fascinating insights and applications of modulated optomechanical systems.

Spin squeezing plays a crucial role in quantum metrology and quantum information science. Its generation is the prerequisite for further applications but still faces an enormous challenge since the existing physical systems rarely contain the required squeezing interactions. Here we propose a universal scheme to generate spin squeezing in coupled spin models with collective spin-spin interactions, which commonly exist in various systems. Our scheme can transform the coupled spin interactions into squeezing interactions, and reach the extreme squeezing with Heisenberg-limited measurement precision scaling as $1/N$ for $N$ particles. Only constant and continuous driving fields are required, which is accessible to a series of current realistic experiments. This work greatly enriches the variety of systems that can generate the Heisenberg-limited spin squeezing, with broad applications in quantum precision measurement.

The study of the complex Ginzburg–Landau equation, which can describe the fiber laser system, is of significance for ultra-fast laser. In this paper, dromion-like structures for the complex Ginzburg–Landau equation are considered due to their abundant nonlinear dynamics. Via the modified Hirota method and simplified assumption, the analytic dromion-like solution is obtained. The partial asymmetry of structure is particularly discussed, which arises from asymmetry of nonlinear and dispersion terms. Furthermore, the stability of dromion-like structures is analyzed. Oscillation structure emerges to exhibit strong interference when the dispersion loss is perturbed. Through the appropriate modulation of modified exponent parameter, the oscillation structure is transformed into two dromion-like structures. It indicates that the dromion-like structure is unstable, and the coherence intensity is affected by the modified exponent parameter. Results in this paper may be useful in accounting for some nonlinear phenomena in fiber laser systems, and understanding the essential role of modified Hirota method.

With the modified Hirota method, analytic soliton solutions for the generalized cubic complex Ginzburg–Landau equation with variable coefficients are derived for the first time. Based on the analytic solutions, soliton amplification is realized by choosing corresponding parameters properly. Besides, physical effects affecting the soliton amplification are discussed. Furthermore, stability analysis is presented. Results in this paper may be of value in further understanding the soliton amplification in fiber laser, and helpful for the generation of supercontinuum.

Pulse interactions affect pulse qualities during the propagation. Interactions between butterfly-shaped pulses are investigated to improve pulse qualities in the inhomogeneous media. In order to describe the interactions between butterfly-shaped pulses, analytic two-soliton solutions are derived. Based on those solutions, influences of corresponding parameters on pulse interactions are discussed. Methods to control the pulse interactions are suggested.

Soliton interactions for the coupled nonlinear Schrodinger equations, governing the propagation of envelopes of electromagnetic waves in birefringent optical fibers, are investigated with symbolic computation. Based on the Hirota method, analytic two- and three-soliton solutions for this model are derived. Relevant interaction properties are discussed. Stationary bound vector solitons with the periodic attraction and repulsion are obtained. Soliton intensity could be reduced if the nonlinearity in optical fibers is enlarged, while the soliton period could be prolonged as the group velocity dispersion in the anomalous dispersion regime of optical fibers increases. Through the asymptotic analysis for the two-soliton solutions, interactions between two solitons are proven to be elastic. Besides, parallel soliton transmission systems without soliton interactions are presented. Moreover, interactions between the regular and bound vector solitons are studied. Dual complex structures and triple-soliton bound states are presented. Results could be of certain value to the studies on the soliton control and optical switching technologies.

The study of soliton interactions is of significance for improving pulse qualities in nonlinear optics. In this paper, interaction between two solitons, which is governed by the Hirota equation, is considered. Via use of the Hirota method, an analytic soliton solution is obtained. Then a two-period vibration phenomenon is observed. Moreover, turning points of the coefficients of higher-order terms, which are related with sudden delaying or leading, are found and analyzed. With different coefficient constraints, soliton interactions are discussed by different frequency separation with the split-step Fourier method, and characteristics of soliton interactions are exhibited. Through turning points, we get a pair of solitons which tend to be bound solitons but not exactly. Furthermore, we control a pair of solitons to emit at different emission angles. The stability of the two-period vibration is analyzed. Results in this paper may be helpful for the applications of optical self-routing, waveguiding, and faster switching.
