The work is devoted to the development of an intelligent lighting control system for adjacent territories.Every day more and more popular is the use of led lamps, they are more economical from outdated gas-discharge lamps or incandescent lamps, which are now commonly used. For comparison, a 40W incandescent lamp has a luminous flux of 400 lumens, the same luminous flux has a 5W led lamp. There are many outdoor lighting network management systems that have a wide range of management capabilities. The most common ones are LonWorks, DMX-512, DALI, DCI. They usually use motion sensors, light sensors, time relays, and other automation elements, each of which has its own advantages and disadvantages. These advantages and disadvantages have been analyzed in terms of application in the system being developed. The main requirements for the system were economic and ease of use. Taking into account these requirements, the existing methods of street lighting management and systems based on them were considered.A block diagram of the lighting control system for the adjacent territories of the enterprise was developed, which is shown in figure Fig. 1. The system is a network whose nodes are connected by a simple digital data bus DB. The digital data bus can be wired, wireless, or optical. Each network node consists of: an MSi motion sensor, an LLi led lamp, a microcontroller with a built-in MCi real-time clock, a light-sensitive LSI sensor, and IUI interface blocks. The light-sensitive sensor can be installed in one place, provided that the level of natural light in the coverage area of each local lighting system is approximately the same. When the level of external natural light decreases below a certain critical level, the light-sensitive sensor sends a signal to the microcontroller to turn on the local lighting system, after which each local zone is illuminated with individual specified parameters of the glow power. When the motion sensor is activated in the local area of the lighting system, the lamp switches to high power mode. Thanks to a real-time microcontroller, the moment when an object appears in this zone is recorded. As the object moves, it enters the coverage area of another local lighting system where the network uses a built-in real-time clock to record the moment when the object appears in another zone, this information is transmitted via a digital bus to the system, from which we can determine the direction of movement of the object.Based on the developed block diagram and based on the requirements for the system being developed, a microcontroller from the STM family was selected. This family of microcontrollers, due to their performance, architecture and low power consumption, is best suited for working with the hardware of the system being developed.

The street lighting is one of major components in total energy consumption in cities. The paper is focused on a concept of street lamp control systems and function organization with remote monitoring, to reduce maintenance costs and energy consumption. A new approach to the definition of functional strategy organization for outdoor lighting systems is introduced in the paper. Proposed functional strategies are based on four efficiency classes of building automation and control systems (BACS) defined in the EN 15323 standard. They have been formulated, analysed and eventually implemented and verified in real experiment street lighting installation. This outdoor lighting system, designed by the authors, based on LonWorks (the ISO/IEC EN 14908) platform with a power line communication aimed to control high-pressure sodium lamps. The street lamps are integrated nodes of a building management system (BMS). The results of experimental tests for the proposed functional strategies, implemented with various control scenarios, show that they provide a great potential in reducing energy consumption by street lighting installations. In particular, the energy use can be reduced even by 45 % in comparison to conventional street lighting system, especially without the use of monitoring and control. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Remote monitoring of the parameters of a building requires reading/writing the values of the variables provided by networks of smart devices (sensors, actuators and controllers), that control these parameters. A solution may be the creation and optimization of a web interface that can be accessed from the Internet via a web server providing IP connectivity and other web capabilities. Networks can also be monitored through the 220V AC network by using transceivers. Various services required in buildings can be remotely monitored, the energy management can be improved by making a more efficient use of the electricity and the heat consumption with the aim of reducing the maintenance cost. Utilities companies (water, gas, electricity, etc.) are also becoming more interested in remote monitoring of customers' consumption and are trying to integrate some of the so called "advanced metering systems" (which contain smart meters networks). Remote monitoring of utilities, as well as monitoring building parameters, requires read/write of the network variables values of smart meters that operate with customer utility values [15], [16], [26]. Our paper presents the principles of remotely monitoring the parameters of the buildings together with the most commonly used norms in the field and also an example of an application for remote monitoring several LonWork control networks. A modern control network consists of a number of intelligent devices that communicate on one or more channels, using a common protocol. The network's intelligent devices, called nodes, may each include more microprocessors running the application, and the protocol. Also, each device includes a component called transceiver, that provide the electrical interface with the communication channel. In the LonWorks networks, most of the devices (intelligent sensors, controllers, actuators), exploit the advantages of the Neuron Chip, the default LonWorks node, which includes three processors, two of which execute the LonTalk protocol, and the third the device's application-programme. The Neuron Chip supplies the functions of the first six OSI stack layers, the user needing to provide only the configuration and the programming of the application layer. The goal of this paper is to present the comunication mode between intelligent devices, in LonWorks networks, at the MAC and Application levels, based on LonTalk protocol. This analysis is useful in order to know the conditions to be fulfilled for an optimal design of the network, optimal setup and configuration of the devices, and to provide multivendor interoperability. The paper also presents an example of effective design of a lighting control network. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Considering the increasing popularity of network-based control systems and the huge adoption of IP networks (such as the Internet), this paper studies the influence of network quality of service (QoS) parameters over quality of control parameters. An example of a control loop is implemented using two LonWorks networks (CEA-709.1) interconnected by an emulated IP network, in which important QoS parameters such as delay and delay jitter can be completely controlled. Mathematical definitions are provided according to the literature, and the results of the network-based control loop experiment are presented and discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

In the past few years, household remote control products have continuously emerged, and more equipment could be controlled at remote distance. With continuous growth in the number of home remote control devices, the number of remote controllers at home is increasing. In addition, with the increase of PC and notebook computer demands, technologies for controlling computer devices or digital home appliances within the home networks have been launched, such as UPnP (Universal Plug and Play), OSGI (Open Service Gateway Initiative), HAVI (Home Audio/Video Interoperability), and Jini. Because there are too many standards of home network, it is difficult to define a universal standard conformed to others. Many researches have focused on linking the various protocols of these devices, but most of them used the Web or PDAs to control the devices. In such situation, users must rely on computer equipment and face the battery problem of handheld devices. This study aims to develop a cross-heterogeneous network remote control system. In order to relieve the problem of excessive remote controllers, we built a context-aware multi-model remote controller for electronic home devices to relieve the user of a nuisance of enormous amount of remote controllers. Abstract: Virtual device network (VDN) is an intelligent integrated form of a device (control) network and IP network. If a fieldbus based distributed control system (DCS) is implemented on a global VDN, efficiency and flexibility can be significantly improved. In this study DCS implemented on the LonWorks/IP VDN is investigated with an example of model reference adaptive control (MRAC) of a geared DC motor. In order to compensate for the network induced uncertain time delay inherently present on VDN, the modified Smith predictor based internal model controller was integrated to MRAC (MRAC–IMC). The effectiveness of the proposed control scheme was tested through experiment. The proposed control scheme exhibited the robustness to noise and external disturbances and the good tracking performance around zero velocity point occurring due to overshoot and stick friction. Result of this study suggests that sophisticated servo control of dynamic systems is possible from a remote client PC on VDN by properly compensating the network delay. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Recently, various home network systems, such as LonWorks, Echonet, and LnCP, etc., are developed to enhance customer''s comfort and convenience. However, it is not known that performance of any protocol is superior. Hence, this paper evaluates performance of LnCP (Living network Control Protocol) by LG Electronics and LonWorks by Echelon. For this purpose, we have developed simulation model using state diagram of LonWorks and LnCP, and simulation conditions through analysis of message to be generated in the smart home. Also, we evaluate performance, such as maximum transmission delay and mean transmission delay, of both protocols. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

- Abstract
A networked control and supervision system (NCSS) based on LonWorks fieldbus and Intranet/Internet was designed, which was composed of the universal intelligent control nodes (ICNs), the visual control and supervision configuration platforms (VCCP and VSCP) and an Intranet/Internet-based remote supervision platform (RSP). The ICNs were connected to field devices, such as sensors, actuators and controllers. The VCCP and VSCP were implemented by means of a graphical programming environment and network management so as to simplify the tasks of programming and maintaining the ICNs. The RSP was employed to perform the remote supervision function, which was based on a three-layer browser/server(B/S) structure mode. The validity of the NCSS was demonstrated by laboratory experiments. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Until now, control networks including various kinds of controlled devices have become widespread worldwide in the development of building automation. Control networks have their own network protocols, and because of the inconsistency of IP network protocols, extra equipment is required to integrate these two types of protocols, and to cope with the control and management of building automation systems over the internet. However, because these integration solutions are very costly due to inflexible hardware implementation and are strongly depend on their manufacturers, system designers have difficulty implementing these solutions to their various specific applications. In this paper, an advanced distributed control scheme that connects the control networks to IP networks based on LonWorks technology is presented. The proposed scheme is implemented by using a simple programmable Basic Lon Node (BLN) and compatible personal computer as an internet server. BLN is an electric board that was developed in this research and physically contains a transceiver, Neuron chip, and some memory devices. To perform various functions as an internet server, the PC uses a control software of Lon on Internet System (LOIS), where C-language was used to write the LOIS web server for the GNU/LINUX environment. With our scheme, system designers can easily implement their various specific applications only with the down load of the control program via a PC serial port (RS-232). This scheme can provide an advanced, lower cost, worldwide, distributed control system, as well as freedom and flexibility for comprehensive developments. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Requirements for Distributed Monitoring and Control Networks (DMCN) differ greatly from those of typical data networks. Specifically, any DMCN technology which employs a fieldbus protocol is different from IP network protocol TCP/IP. In general, one needs to integrate fieldbus protocol and TCP/IP to realize DMCN over IP network or internet, which can be viewed as Virtual Device Network (VDN). Interoperability between devices and equipments is essential to enhance the quality and the performance of predictive maintenance (PM). This paper suggests a basic framework for VDN using DMCN over IP network and a method to guarantee interoperability between devices and equipments. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

EMERGENCY lighting , *INFORMATION technology , *MAINTENANCE costs , *OPERATING costs - Abstract
As enforced by Fire Services Department in Hong Kong, indoor battery-backup emergency lighting is required to be tested monthly. A new distributive monitoring system is developed using LonWorks technology to cater for this. The system has several distinctive features—higher reliability, cost effectiveness and user friendliness. A low-cost electronic circuit board and a LonWorks control module are integrated with the existing emergency lighting circuit to form an intelligent control node in which the maintenance test is performed automatically. The test results are then sent to a control center via a LonWorks network. Any defective lighting point can be spotted without extensive effort on patrolling. Thus, higher reliability of the lighting system is achieved with significant reduction in maintenance cost. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

In order to realize the energy efficient on the traffic and illuminating lights in city, the Intelligent Traffic and Illuminating Control System is proposed in this paper. The working criteria of real-time monitoring and intelligently control are designed. The key technologies including Internet of Things with power line communication by LonWorks technology and the piezoelectric sensor on site detecting are utilized in the research. The traffic density is detected by piezoelectric sensor and is "told" to LonWorks network to adjust the traffic red lamp lighting time and the illuminating time. The working flow of the Intelligent Traffic and Illuminating Control System has been verified to ensure the sufficient capability by Cp 1.72 and Cpk 1.60 within Statistical Process Control. The Energy efficient is achieved by 35.71% electrical energy reduction and 66.67% fuel consumption reduction on the energy saving and the carbon oxide emission reduction, which demonstrates that the Intelligent Control System achieves effective and valuable real-time monitoring and intelligently control with superiority of the energy efficient compared to the previous reports.

Context. New model and quantification method of probable and time characteristics of information-control network with carrier sense random multiple access protocol and predicting network load of predictive p-persistent CSMA had been created. The object of the research was the process of information exchange in Fieldbus-networks LonWorks, BacNet with the analyzed protocol. Objective. The aim of the research is to increase the accuracy of quantitative estimates of the characteristics of time and delivery reliability of information messages in the network with the analyzed protocol. Method. The method of probability theory has been used there to solve the problem of creating a new correct model. The analysis of the functioning principles of the predictive p-persistent CSMA protocol is performed and the parameters influencing its work are set (on the example of the LonTalk stack). A graph of states and transitions of the protocol model describing the principles of transmission of information messages over a network with a software communication medium, considering the allocated significant network and protocol parameters. A method for calculating the graph is offered and new analytical relations are obtained to estimate the main model probabilistic and temporal characteristic: the average delay time of message transmission, the average load of the communication channel, the probability of successful/unsuccessful transmission and data loss in the network. Results. The developed model and method of quantitative assessment of probabilistic and temporal characteristics of data transmission in a network with multiple access protocol predictive p-persistent CSMA. The results are mostly differ from analogs by correct accounting of sporadic and diverse network load by the node delivery services. Conclusions. The held experiments have confirmed the work capacity of the proposed mathematical support and allow to recommend it for solving the assessment characteristics problems of information exchange in the design of analyzed networks with given probabilistic and temporal characteristics.

Context. The relevance of the simulation of p-persistent CSMA algorithm of unequal random multiple access is caused by importanceof accounting personal node priorities for execution of adequate assessment of probable and time response characteristics of information transfer in designing widespread fieldbus-networks LonWorks, BacNet, etc. The aim of this work is to obtain analytical expressions for estimating probabilities of successful and failed node access to the channel, the transmission time information in the network with equal and unequal rivalry of nodes based on p-persistent and predictive p-persistent CSMA algorithms of random multiple access.Method. The method of probability theory has been used there to solve problems. The analysis of equal and unequal multiple access ppersistent CSMA nodes in the saturation mode of the channel by the transmission with a constant number of node-rivals has been executed. A method of estimating the time of successful transmission of information by the node through an average number of cycles of rivalry and probabilistic characteristics of the access nodes has been proposed. Expressions to estimate the necessary probabilistic and time characteristics were obtained: the average length of transmission and time of information transmission by the node, the effective bandwidth. The proposed method mainly differs from analogs by the possibility of characteristics estimation of information transmission given the manifold priorities of the network nodes, which improves the accuracy of the performed calculations.Results. The analytical expressions have been received, quantification and analysis of probabilistic and temporal characteristics ofinformation transfer in a network with equal and unequal random multiple p-persistent CSMA access has been performed.Conclusions. The simulation results of equal and unequal rivalry network channel illustrate the importance of taking into accountindividual priorities of the nodes in the network. The feasibility of using access priorities is the need to transfer important information onthe background of universal low-priority data. The significance of the results is to perform an adequate quantitative assessment of thecharacteristics of information transmission in a channel with equal and unequal parties.

This paper presents the design and development of a simple wireless bus for domotics (WBD). The architecture of the bus is based on a classical master/multi-slave configuration, where the beginning of any task in the network is initiated by the master unit. The proposed domotic bus shows a reliable performance thanks to the cyclic redundancy check (CRC) algorithm configured in a modified Modbus frame. The commands’ speed response of the proposed bus is increased in comparison with other domotic standards, such as X10, ZigBee, and LonWorks, which offers an affordable, yet reliable self-configurable network solution for home automation solutions (HAS).

The street illumination is very important in modern city as the part of city's infrastructure. However it is very difficult to reduce the energy consumption, increase the lighting rate and reduce the maintenance cost by the existing street lighting in old design. This paper presents the Smart Illumination Control System (SICS) to remote control and smart monitor the street illumination with M2M communication technology. SICS is structured as illumination application layer, controlling layer and data center. SICS uses the interface boards to send and receive command from controlling layer by Narrow Band Power Line Carrier (PLC) communication. The wireless communication is set up to report the status of the controlling layer to the data center. The street lamps can be switched according to the logic connection in the LonWorks network in computer. The performance evaluation of SICS indicates the system reliability is validated by Statistical Process Control (SPC), the 65% energy consumption is reduced, the lighting rate is improved 10.9%, and the 75% on site working hours is reduced. In comparison to the previous publications, this design achieves effective and real-time network with superiority of the energy efficiency.

Managing peak demand efficiently is vital for maintaining uninterrupted supply of electrical power by utility providers. In this work, a pilot system was developed for managing and controlling the demand of major power consuming equipment in buildings from a central server, while relying mostly on existing infrastructure and maintaining consumer comfort. The system was successfully demonstrated on a selected group of buildings using the LonWorks networking platform. At the building level, the system utilized power line and twisted pair communication to control the thermostats of air-conditioning (A/C) units. The higher level communication was executed through extensible markup language (XML) and simple object access protocol (SOAP). The system provided control capabilities based on A/C unit priority, thermostat temperature, building type and geographic location. The development and execution of demand management strategies for selected buildings led to peak load reductions up to 74%, in addition to energy savings up to 25%. Implementing such a system at a national level in Kuwait is estimated to reduce peak demand by 3.44 GW, amounting to capital savings of $4.13 billion. The use of existing infrastructure reduced the cost and installation time of the system. Based on the successful testing of this pilot system, a larger-scale system is being developed.
