Abstract

This article explores the differences between frame and coordinate transformations in relativistic theories. We highlight the key role of tetrad fields in connecting spacetime and frame indices. Using Maxwell's electrodynamics as an example, we show that Maxwell's equations are invariant under coordinate transformations but exhibit covariant behavior under frame transformations. Abstract

In recent years, a new generation of optical intensity interferometers has emerged, leveraging the existing infrastructure of Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescopes (IACTs). The MAGIC telescopes host the MAGIC-SII system (Stellar Intensity Interferometer), implemented to investigate the feasibility and potential of this technique on IACTs. After the first successful measurements in 2019, the system was upgraded and now features a real-time, dead-time-free, 4-channel, GPU-based correlator. These hardware modifications allow seamless transitions between MAGIC's standard very-high-energy gamma-ray observations and optical interferometry measurements within seconds. We establish the feasibility and potential of employing IACTs as competitive optical Intensity Interferometers with minimal hardware adjustments. The measurement of a total of 22 stellar diameters are reported, 9 corresponding to reference stars with previous comparable measurements, and 13 with no prior measurements. A prospective implementation involving telescopes from the forthcoming Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory's northern hemisphere array, such as the first prototype of its Large-Sized Telescopes, LST-1, is technically viable. This integration would significantly enhance the sensitivity of the current system and broaden the UV-plane coverage. Abstract

To evaluate the tolerance of three cultivars of barley for the phytoremediation of soils contaminated by metals, a growth chamber experiment with plants exposed to increasing concentrations of Zn, Cd and Cr was conducted. Growth parameters, chlorophyll content and chlorophyll fluorescence were measured at 15 and 29 days after treatment application. Metal concentration in the plant was also measured. In all cases, the amount of metal accumulated in the plant increased by increasing the concentration of the applied metal. Chlorophyll content and chlorophyll fluorescence were higher in the first sampling indicating the negative effect on these parameters of the highest metal concentrations. Abstract

Chromium is a heavy metal widely used in industry. Its two most stable oxidation states are Cr+3 and Cr+6. Cr+3 is less soluble and remains adsorbed or precipitated in soils, meanwhile Cr+6 is soluble and also a high toxic specie for living organisms. In natural environments, Cr+3 is the most common specie, but industrial sources of Cr(VI) could cause environmental problems in soils, especially in agricultural systems. To some extent Cr+6 could be reduced to Cr+3 by the action of low pH and organic matter. In order to evaluate the influence of soil characteristics on bioavalability and stability of Cr+6, three different agricultural soils from Madrid region (Spain) were spiked with K2O2O7 to reach a Cr+6 concentration of 250 mg·L−1 and incubated at 25°C in dark. After 14, 28 and 42 days of incubation, Cr+3 was measured in the following fractions: 1) water soluble fraction, 2) exchangeable fraction and 3) total in soil. Most of Cr+3 remaining in soil was found in the water soluble or exchangeable fraction, especially in the batch of basic soil. Results from this study confirm the environmental hazard caused by chromium spills in soils as it is available to plants and could be leachated to the ground water for long time.

Abstract

Eccrine squamous syringometaplasia (ESS) is a histological term describing a mature squamous metaplasia of the eccrine ducts. Eccrine squamous syringometaplasia is not an infrequent histological finding and may be associated with chemotherapy or with a variety of non-specific conditions including infections, neoplastic conditions, and inflammatory skin diseases. We report a 75-year-old man who developed ESS within lesions of leukemia cutis (LC). The patient had an inaugural diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and he was not on chemotherapy when the biopsy was performed.

Abstract

Plant-based beverages are one of the foods that currently arouse a lot of interest in the population due to their composition with compounds beneficial to health in addition to their being used as milk substitutes for people who suffer from food disorders. Also, their fortification with different nutrients or healthy ingredients with the aim of improving plant-based health potential is actually gaining importance in the food industry. For this reason, the aim of the present investigation was the preparation of a healthy Brazil nut beverage enriched with Opuntia stricta var. dillenii pulp green extracts (ODPs), in order to produce a healthy plant-based beverage with improved nutritional characteristics. The microstructural characterization of the Brazil nut beverage, its stability during cold storage for up to 24 days at 5 °C, the composition of bioactive compounds provided via ODP extract (betalains and phenolic compounds), and their antioxidant activity were evaluated in this study. Green ODP extracts (0.5 and 1 g/100 g beverage) were added to a standardized Brazil nut beverage (reduced fat beverage). The characterization of the bioactive composition (betalains and phenolic compounds) of the elaborated beverage was achieved via HPLC (UV-vis and MS-QT of detection), and the antioxidant activity measurements via ORAC were also carried out. Optical microscopy, particle size, and Z potential analysis was conducted to characterize the structure of the Brazil nut beverages as food emulsions in which ODP extract was added. Most of the bioactive compounds from the green ODP extract added to the beverages showed good retention and remained stable throughout the 24 days of storage at 7 °C, with encapsulation efficiencies ranging from 98.34% to 92.35% for betalains and from 93.67% and 81.20% for phenolic compounds. Abstract

Prickly pears (Opuntia ficus-indica), which are well known for their beneficial properties for human health, are the subject of many studies due to their high content of bioactive compounds. However, the presence of spines on the fruit’s surface is a factor that limits consumption. Therefore, the viability and nutritional quality of peeled and packaged white, orange, and pink prickly pears were studied during storage. Refrigerated whole fruits stored at 8 °C and 85% RH for 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4 weeks were electrically peeled and packaged with micro-perforated film. At each time point, their microbial quality; physical parameters, such as hardness, texture, and color; and chemical parameters, including pH, titratable acidity, total soluble solids content, sugar content, ascorbic acid content, antioxidant capacity, and total phenol content, were analyzed. The mesophilic aerobic counts were lower than the values established by Spanish legislation (7 log (CFU/g f.w.)) until day 8 after packaging (or until day 6 after 4 weeks of storage). The hardness, texture, pH, sugar content, ascorbic acid content, and antioxidant capacity decreased significantly between day 0 and day 8 after packaging, independently of the number of weeks for which the whole fruits had been refrigerated previously. Furthermore, the changes in the parameters analyzed for whole fruits during storage were less remarkable. The evaluation of the sensory features was positive throughout the preserved period. The minimally processed prickly pears retained suitable microbial, nutritional, and sensory qualities when the whole fruits had been refrigerated for 1, 2, 3, or 4 weeks, facilitating their management in small processing companies.

20. Physicochemical and Nutritional Characterization of Green Banana Flour from Discarded Cavendish Bananas.

Abstract

Fifteen percent of harvested bananas are discarded daily in the Canary Islands at packing houses because of marketing standards, mainly based on their appearance, or are retired to avoid falls in the market price of bananas. This discarded fruit is an environmental issue, and green banana flour (GBF) is an interesting management alternative for it. In this paper, the artisanal process for obtaining GBF was optimized. The study of physicochemical and nutritional characteristics of this gluten-free flour indicated a high contribution of starch, fiber, phenolics, K, and Mg to dietary intake. Storage of GBF at room temperature (20 ± 5 °C) for ten months slightly increased its moisture and acidity and decreased its starch content, phenolic content, and pH. Some color changes were observed after 5 months, but sensory characteristics were still acceptable after ten months. Green bananas storage prior to GBF elaboration showed they were suitable for obtaining good quality GBF even after 7 weeks at 6 °C, but only 4 weeks at 12 °C. Discriminant analysis classified the GBF correctly according to the cooperative origin, time, and storage temperature of the bananas used in its preparation. These results provide information that could be used in other banana-producing regions for reducing the environmental impact of fruit waste and obtaining GBF using a simple and inexpensive technological process. Abstract

Plant-based beverages are one of the foods that currently arouse a lot of interest in the population due to their composition with compounds beneficial to health in addition to their being used as milk substitutes for people who suffer from food disorders. Also, their fortification with different nutrients or healthy ingredients with the aim of improving plant-based health potential is actually gaining importance in the food industry. For this reason, the aim of the present investigation was the preparation of a healthy Brazil nut beverage enriched with Opuntia stricta var. dillenii pulp green extracts (ODPs), in order to produce a healthy plant-based beverage with improved nutritional characteristics. The microstructural characterization of the Brazil nut beverage, its stability during cold storage for up to 24 days at 5 °C, the composition of bioactive compounds provided via ODP extract (betalains and phenolic compounds), and their antioxidant activity were evaluated in this study. Green ODP extracts (0.5 and 1 g/100 g beverage) were added to a standardized Brazil nut beverage (reduced fat beverage). The characterization of the bioactive composition (betalains and phenolic compounds) of the elaborated beverage was achieved via HPLC (UV-vis and MS-QT of detection), and the antioxidant activity measurements via ORAC were also carried out. Optical microscopy, particle size, and Z potential analysis was conducted to characterize the structure of the Brazil nut beverages as food emulsions in which ODP extract was added. Most of the bioactive compounds from the green ODP extract added to the beverages showed good retention and remained stable throughout the 24 days of storage at 7 °C, with encapsulation efficiencies ranging from 98.34% to 92.35% for betalains and from 93.67% and 81.20% for phenolic compounds. According to the results of this study, Brazil nut beverage seems to be a healthy and efficient food emulsion system to encapsulate ODP extract rich in betalains and phenolic compounds, with high antioxidant activity, making possible the development of a Brazil nut beverage with improved health potential. 39. Ley de delitos informáticos colombiana, el convenio de Budapest y otras legislaciones: Estudio comparativo

Abstract

La investigación se centró en realizar un derecho comparado entre la ley de delitos informáticos vigente en Colombia, y los punibles de tal naturaleza tipificados en las legislaciones nacionales de Perú, Chile, Alemania y España. Lo anterior, teniendo como guía las disposiciones contenidas en el Convenio de Budapest sobre delitos cibernéticos. A partir de un enfoque cualitativo de corte descriptivo se presenta, en primer lugar, un recuento sobre el contenido y alcance del referido instrumento de derecho internacional; luego, se procede a relacionar la clasificación y composición de las conductas advertidas en la ley 1273 de 2009 de Colombia, por medio de la cual se crea un nuevo bien jurídico tutelado denominado de la protección de la información y datos, adicionalmente la Ley 1928 de 2018, por medio de la cual se aprueba el Convenio sobre la Ciberdelincuencia. Finalmente, se manifiesta la contextualización de derecho comparado entre la reglamentación nacional y la foránea, según los países elegidos. El desarrollo permitió encontrar diferentes maneras en las cuales los ciberpunibles han sido entendidos y consagrados en las legislaciones de estudio, así como las fortalezas y debilidades que emanan de la tipificación, a efectos de investigar, enjuiciar y sancionar las conductas delictivas virtuales.
