The positioning results of terrain matching in flat terrain areas will significantly deteriorate due to the influence of terrain nonlinearity and multibeam measurement noise. To tackle this problem, this study presents the Pulse-Coupled Neural Network (PCNN), which has been effectively utilized for image denoising. The interconnection of surface terrain data nodes is achieved through PCNN ignition, which serves to alleviate the reduction in terrain similarity caused by measurement error. This enables the efficient selection of terrain data, ensuring that points with high measurement accuracy are preserved for terrain matching and positioning operations. The simulation results illustrate that the suggested methodology effectively removes terrain data points with low measurement accuracy, thereby improving the performance of terrain matching and positioning.

The intermittent and volatile nature of wind power generation necessitates thermal power units to provide deep-peak shaving and fast frequency regulation services within the same grid. However, the current proportional integral differential (PID) control performance in the process control foundation of thermal power units falls short of meeting these requirements. Despite the lack of comprehensive research on engineering fastest control (EFC), this article aims to address this gap by studying and analyzing the mechanism and physical defects of the fast tracking filter (FTF), the output tracking input characteristics of EFTF reconstructed by FTF engineering, and the control performance of the constructed EFC. Through mathematical calculation analysis, simulation experiments, and real-world engineering practice, it is concluded that EFC surpasses the limitations of PID control performance and effectively enhances feedback control performance. As a result, it is deemed suitable for process control in thermal power units.

Abstract Background Compliance to highly restrictive diets is critical for children with Methylmalonic Acidemia (MMA), and their caregivers play a prominent role in children’s dietary treatment from early childhood through to adulthood. Despite lots of efforts by the multidisciplinary medical team to ensure the smooth implementation of dietary treatment, restricting dietary protein remains particularly challenging for children with MMA. This study aimed to assess dietary treatment compliance in children with MMA and evaluate the impact of WeChat-based parent education on compliance. Methods A sample of 151 caregiver-child dyads was obtained through online recruitment using convenience sampling from February to March 2023. At least one month following the enrollment of MMA caregivers in the WeChat public account “Methylmalonic Acidemia Diet Manager”, structured questionnaires were distributed to them through the electronic platform “Questionnaire Star” in collaboration with the Chinese National Alliance of Rare Diseases. Subsequently, the collected data was analyzed using quantitative methods. Results Children with MMA aged over 5 years were more likely to present a lower level of dietary treatment compliance compared to those under 1 year old. Besides, the levels of children’s dietary treatment compliance were higher when their caregivers had higher levels of satisfaction and benefit from using the public account. Conclusion Our findings highlighted the significance of age-related challenges in dietary treatment compliance among children with MMA and the promising impact of utilizing WeChat public accounts as a supportive education tool.

Abstract This thesis proposes a charging equalizer for hybrid energy storage systems, incorporating the Zeta converter, voltage multiplier, and multi‐winding transformer. The objective is efficient charging and equalization for battery and supercapacitor strings. The Zeta converter serves to charge the battery string, while the transformer with multi‐winding shares the inductor of Zeta converter as the primary side, facilitating battery string balancing through the utilization of current ripple in the inductor. Additionally, the voltage ripple generated by the Zeta converter is utilized to drive the voltage multiplier, enabling the charging and equalization of the supercapacitor string. The system's operation halts upon reaching the predefined threshold voltage for the supercapacitor strings. The proposed circuit transforms into a Zeta converter by employing a single‐pole double‐throw switch, facilitating the charging of the battery strings. Experimental validation uses four series‐connected supercapacitors and four series‐connected batteries, demonstrating successful equalization and charging for both energy storage components.

In this study, we present a novel method for the topology optimization of the irregular flow domain using a parametric level set method (PLSM). Some improvement was applied on the CS-RBFs (radial basis functions with compact support)-based PLSM to make it suitable for nonuniform mesh, expanding the range field of engineering application of the PLSM. The optimization problem is solved by a gradient-based algorithm with Stokes equations as state constraints, and the objective is set to minimize the power dissipation subject to the volume constraint of flow channels. A PLSM is introduced to avoid the direct solving of the Hamilton-Jacobi partial differential equation, which can have the potential to break through the restriction of relying on structured meshes because no finite difference scheme is required. Then, a self-adaption support radius approach is presented to allow the parametric level set to be evolved on the nonuniformed mesh, which can expand the application of the PLSM to more complicated engineering problems with irregular geometric shapes. A volume integration scheme is applied during the design sensitivity analysis to calculate the shape derivatives, allowing the nucleation of new holes. Numerical examples in two and three dimensions are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Background To study the baseline factors that related to faster axial elongation after orthokeratology (OK) treatment and the characteristics of cases with axial length decrease in a group of myopia children. Methods This is a retrospective study. The records of 73 children who had wear OK lens for at least one year were reviewed. Only the data of right eyes were included. Baseline data included: age, gender, parental myopia, refractive error, corneal power, central corneal thickness, axial length and anterior chamber depth. Corneal power, central corneal thickness, anterior chamber depth and axial length after one-year of OK lens wear were also collected. The related factors affecting axial length change were analyzed. Abstract The switched‐capacitor equalizer (SCE) has a broad application prospect because of its small size, easy control, and implementation. However, the conventional SCE by shifting energy between two adjacent cells usually has a lower balancing speed the number of imbalanced battery cells increases. Therefore, an automatic SCE is proposed to improve the balancing speed for a long battery string. The main advantage of the proposed method is taking the highest‐voltage battery cell as the source for balancing. By controlling the MOSFETs alternately with one pair of complementary pulse width modulation signals, the energy can be directly delivered from the highest‐voltage battery cell to other lower‐voltage ones, to avoid the frequent energy inflow or outflow from the same battery cell. A prototype for four lithium battery cells is implemented, and the comparisons between the proposed SCE and other SCEs in simulation and experiment are presented. Results show that the proposed SCE topology exhibits an obvious improvement in balancing speed at different initial voltage mismatch distributions.

Development of innovative nanomedicine enabling enhanced theranostics of multidrug-resistant (MDR) tumors remains to be challenging. Herein, we report the development of a newly designed multifunctional yellow-fluorescent carbon dot (y-CD)/dendrimer nanohybrids as a platform for ultrasound (US)-enhanced fluorescence imaging and chemotherapy of MDR tumors. Generation 5 (G5) poly(amidoamine) dendrimers covalently modified with efflux inhibitor of d-α-tocopheryl polyethylene glycol 1000 succinate (G5-TPGS) were complexed with one-step hydrothermally synthesized y-CDs via electrostatic interaction. The formed G5-TPGS@y-CDs complexes were then physically loaded with anticancer drug doxorubicin (DOX) to generate (G5-TPGS@y-CDs)-DOX complexes. The developed nanohybrids display a high drug loading efficiency (40.7%), strong y-CD-induced fluorescence emission, and tumor microenvironment pH-preferred DOX release profile. Attributing to the DOX/TPGS dual drug design, the (G5-TPGS@y-CDs)-DOX complexes can overcome the multidrug resistance (MDR) of cancer cells and effectively inhibit the growth of cancer cells and tumors. Furthermore, the introduction of US-targeted microbubble destruction technology was proven to render the complexes with enhanced intracellular uptake and anticancer efficacy in vitro and improved chemotherapeutic efficacy and fluorescence imaging of tumors in vivo due to the produced sonoporation effect. The developed multifunctional dendrimer/CD nanohybrids may represent an advanced design of nanomedicine for US-enhanced theranostics of different types of MDR tumors.

Abstract Background The prevalence of CAM use is increasing. This integrative review investigated New Zealand healthcare professionals’ practice of, attitudes toward, and knowledge about complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). Methods Literature search was conducted in four databases from inception to April 2020. Studies were included if they reported results from primary data collection on practice of, attitudes toward, or knowledge about CAM amongst New Zealand healthcare professionals. Results Eleven studies (two of ‘high-quality’, seven of ‘moderate-quality’, and two of ‘low-quality’) were identified with 2060 healthcare professionals including general practitioners (GPs), nurses, midwives, pharmacists, physiotherapists, and medical specialists. New Zealand healthcare professionals were generally positive regarding CAM use, but have concerns on the scientific evidence, regulation, safety, financial costs of CAM, and encourage an evidence-based CAM practice and stronger CAM regulation. Findings indicated that around 25% of GPs practise CAM, and 82.3% refer patients to CAM practitioners. When treating pregnant women, 48.4% of physiotherapists practise acupuncture, and 37.3% of midwives recommend CAM. GPs believe that acupuncture is the most helpful CAM modality, and most commonly practiced and referred patients to acupuncture. Up to 58% of GPs and Plunket nurses wanted to receive further education on CAM, and up to 66.7% GPs favour the idea CAM should be included in medical curriculums. Conclusions Nine of the 11 included studies were of moderate to high quality, thus enhancing the reliability of the review findings. In order to better manage CAM in New Zealand New Zealand clinical settings, there is a need to invest in CAM research and education, and enhance CAM regulation. This review is a first step in developing an evidence base to offer insights for further development of effective CAM policies regarding safety, efficacy, regulation and integration in New Zealand.

Abstract Low back pain (LBP) is the leading contributor to years lived with disability, and imposes an enormous burden on individuals and on health-care systems. General practitioners and physiotherapists are generally the front-line health professionals dealing with patients with LBP, and have a key role in minimising its effect. Here we review six key issues associated with LBP including its effects, diagnosis and management in primary care, and highlight the importance of the biopsychosocial model and matched care for patients with LBP.

BackgroundChinese herbal footbaths are an external therapy of traditional Chinese medicine that has been widely used to treat dysmenorrhea. This review aims to systematically evaluate its efficacy and safety for the treatment of dysmenorrhea.MethodsDatabases of PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, CIHAHL, Web of Science, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI), Chinese Scientific Journals Database (VIP), Wanfang Database, China Biomedical Literature Database(CBM), and Chinese Biomedical Literature Service System (SinoMed) will be searched from the inception to September 30, 2020. The eligible randomized controlled trials (RCTs) will be identified and included. The primary outcomes include pain intensity measured by validated scales of visual analog scale, numeric rating scale, and response rate of symptom reduction. The secondary outcomes are scores on validated pain questionnaires, quality of life measured by SF-36 or other validated scales, and adverse events. Study selection, data extraction, and assessment of bias risk will be conducted by two reviewers independently. RevMan software (V.5.3.5) will be utilized to perform data synthesis. Subgroup and sensitivity analysis will be performed when necessary. The strength of the evidence will be evaluated with the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation System.ResultsA high-quality synthesis of current evidence of Chinese herbal footbaths for patients with dysmenorrhea will be provided in this study.ConclusionThis systematic review will provide evidence of whether Chinese herbal footbaths are an effective and safe intervention for the treatment of dysmenorrhea.Systematic review registrationPROSPERO CRD42020188256.

Abstract Background Breast cancer related lymphedema (BCRL) is a prevalent complication secondary to cancer treatments which significantly impacts the physical and psychological health of breast cancer survivors. Previous research shows increasing use of low level laser therapy (LLLT), now commonly referred to as photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy, for BCRL. This systematic review evaluated the effectiveness of LLLT (PBM) in the management of BCRL. Methods Clinical trials were searched in PubMed, AMED, Web of Science, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure up to November 2016. Two reviewers independently assessed the methodological quality and adequacy of LLLT (PBM) in these clinical trials. Primary outcome measures were limb circumference/volume, and secondary outcomes included pain intensity and range of motion. Because data were clinically heterogeneous, best evidence synthesis was performed. Results Eleven clinical trials were identified, of which seven randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were chosen for analysis. Overall, the methodological quality of included RCTs was high, whereas the reporting of treatment parameters was poor. Results indicated that there is strong evidence (three high quality trials) showing LLLT (PBM) was more effective than sham treatment for limb circumference/volume reduction at a short-term follow-up. There is moderate evidence (one high quality trial) indicating that LLLT (PBM) was more effective than sham laser for short-term pain relief, and limited evidence (one low quality trial) that LLLT (PBM) was more effective than no treatment for decreasing limb swelling at short-term follow-up. Conclusions Based upon the current systematic review, LLLT (PBM) may be considered an effective treatment approach for women with BCRL. Due to the limited numbers of published trials available, there is a clear need for well-designed high-quality trials in this area. The optimal treatment parameters for clinical application have yet to be elucidated.

125I seeds coated with titanium are considered a safe and effective interstitial brachytherapy for tumors, while the cost of 125I seeds is a major problem for the patients implanting lots of seeds. The aim of this paper was to develop a novel silicone coating for 125I seeds with a lower cost. In order to show the radionuclide utilization ratio, the silicone was coated onto the seeds using the electro-spinning method and the radioactivity was evaluated, then the anti-tumor efficacy of silicone 125I seeds was compared with titanium 125I seeds. The seeds were divided into four groups: A (control), B (pure silicone), C (silicone 125I), D (titanium 125I) at 2 Gy or 4 Gy. Their anti-tumour activity and mechanism were assessed in vitro and in vivo using a human extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma cell line FRH-0201 and tumor-bearing BALB/c nude mice. The silicone 125I seeds showed higher radioactivity; the rate of cell apoptosis in vitro and the histopathology in vivo demonstrated that the silicone 125I seeds shared similar anti-tumor efficacy with the titanium 125I seeds for the treatment of extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, while they have a much lower cost.

Lake Taihu is the third-largest freshwater lake in China and has been suffering from cyanobacterial blooms for over two decades. The northern part of the lake, Meiliang Bay, is known to be at high risk of dense and sustained Microcystis blooms and toxins. This study aimed to investigate and record the annual and seasonal dynamics of toxic genotype, Microcystis morphospecies succession and microcystin variation. It also aimed to find out the underlying driving factors influencing the dynamic changes. Microcystin (MC) and the Microcystis genotype were quantified using HPLC and quantitative real-time PCR, respectively. Our study, over three consecutive years, showed that the pattern of morphospecies succession was seasonally distinct and annually consistent. During the same period in 2012, 2013 and 2014, the average MC were, on dry weight basis, 733 μg·g−1, 844 μg·g−1, 870 μg·g−1, respectively. The proportion of toxic Microcystis accounted for 41%, 44% and 52%, respectively. Cell bound microcystin was found to correlate with the percentage of toxic Microcystis. Based on historical and current data, we conclude that annual bloom toxicity was relatively stable or possibly increased over the last decade.
