Abstract The escalating carbon emissions from urban transportation pose significant challenges to environmental sustainability and public health. This study leverages the theory of random utility maximization and employs a nested logit model (NL) within an agent-based modeling (ABM) framework to investigate the impact of low-carbon transportation policies on travel mode choices among urban residents. Focusing on Fuzhou’s main urban area as a case study, the research integrates residents’ demographic attributes, travel preferences, and the influence of policy interventions to simulate and analyze the dynamics of travel behavior under various low-carbon policy scenarios. The study’s simulation experiments encompass traditional license plate restrictions, community-based social network interventions, and composite carbon trading policies. The results, benchmarked against real-world survey data, validate the agent-based model’s feasibility and adaptability, offering novel insights into policy effectiveness and providing decision support for policymakers. This research contributes to the discourse on sustainable urban development by elucidating the transformative potential of low-carbon policies and their capacity to reshape travel mode choices in the pursuit of environmental goals.

Objective To investigate the characteristics of HIV-1 infection among voluntary blood donors in Huzhou City from 2016 to 2022. Methods A total of 233 552 voluntary blood donors in Huzhou, Zhejiang from January 2016 to December 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. Blood donors who were qualified for health examination were required to take EDTA-K2 anticoagulant blood samples by bypass during blood donation. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used for initial screening and re-examination of HIV antigen / antibody. The results were determined in strict accordance with the criteria in National AIDS Testing Technical Specification(2015 Revision). HIV-1 antibody-positive samples were detected by HIV-1 new infection enzyme immunoassay kit, and the restricted antigen affinity method was used to detect whether the samples were new infections. Samples with CD4 cells > 200 / L and the viral load > 1 000 copies / mL were defined as new infection. The positive rate of HIV-1 antibody in each year was compared. With the positive rate of HIV-1 antibody used as the base, the incidence of new HIV-1 infections among subgroups of HIV-1 antibody positive patients of different types (gender, age, occupation, etc.) was compared. Results From 2016 to 2022, there were 233 552 blood samples from voluntary blood donors in Huzhou, including 15 HIV-1 antibody positive samples, with infection rate of 6.42/100 000, among which 40.00% were newly infected and 60.00% were previously infected. From 2016 to 2022, the HIV-1 infection rate showed a downward trend year by year as 1.62%, 1.24%, 0.63%, 0.31%, 0.30%, 0.28% and 0.27%, respectively. The comparision of new infection rate of HIV-1 in different subgroups of 15 HIV-1 antibody positive patients showed that the new infection rate of HIV-1 in repeated blood donation subgroup was higher than that in the first-time blood donation subgroup, with no statistical difference(P>0.05). The incidence of new HIV-1 infections in males was higher than that in females, but there was no statistically significant difference between groups (P>0.05). Among HIV-1 antibody positive blood donors with different educational backgrounds, the proportion of newly infected individuals with junior high school or below was relatively high, but there was no difference compared to other educational subgroups (P>0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of new HIV-1 infections among different occupational subgroups (P>0.05). Conclusion In recent years, the incidence of HIV-1 new infections in Huzhou has decreased year by year, and there is no obvious distribution characteristics of new infections in the subgroups of first-time blood donation and repeated blood donation subgroups, as well as subgroups of different genders, educational backgrounds and occupations.

Emerin, a nuclear membrane protein with important biological roles in mechanotransduction and nuclear shape adaptation, self-assembles into nanometer-size domains at the inner nuclear membrane. The size and emerin occupancy of these nanodomains change with applied mechanical stress as well as under emerin mutations associated with Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy (EDMD). Through a combination of theory and experiment, we show here that a simple reaction-diffusion model explains the self-assembly of emerin nanodomains. Our model yields quantitative agreement with experimental observations on the size and occupancy of emerin nanodomains for wild-type emerin and EDMD-associated mutations of emerin, with and without applied forces, and allows successful prediction of emerin diffusion coefficients from observations of the overall properties of emerin nanodomains. Our results provide a physical understanding of EDMD-associated defects in emerin organization in terms of changes in key reaction and diffusion properties of emerin and its nuclear binding partners.

Introduction: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most prevalent cardiac arrhythmia, and it significantly increases the risk of cardiovascular complications and morbidity, even with appropriate treatment. Tissue remodeling has been a significant topic, while its systematic transcriptional signature remains unclear in AF. Objectives: Our study aims to systematically investigate the molecular characteristics of AF at the cellular-level. Methods: We conducted single-nuclei RNA-sequencig (snRNA-seq) analysis using nuclei isolated from the left atrial appendage (LAA) of AF patients and sinus rhythm. Pathological staining was performed to validate the key findings of snRNA-seq. Results: A total of 30 cell subtypes were identified among 80, 592 nuclei. Within the LAA of AF, we observed a specific subtype of dedifferentiated cardiomyocytes (CMs) characterized by reduced expression of cardiac contractile proteins (TTN and TRDN) and heightened expression of extracellular-matrix related genes (COL1A2 and FBN1). Transcription factor prediction analysis revealed that gene expression patterns in dedifferentiated CMs were primarily regulated by CEBPG and GISLI. Additionally, we identified a distinct subtype of endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) demonstrating elevated expression of PROM1 and KDR, a population decreased within the LAA of AF. Epicardial adipocytes disclosed a reduced release of the anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic factor PRG4, and an augmented secretion of VEGF signals targeting CMs. Additionally, we noted accumulation of M2-like macrophages and CD8+ T cells with high pro-inflammatory score in LAA of AF. Furthermore, the analysis of intercellular communication revealed specific pathways related to AF, such as inflammation, extracellular matrix, and vascular remodeling signals. Conclusions: This study has discovered the presence of dedifferentiated CMs, a decrease in endothelial progenitor cells, a shift in the secretion profile of adipocytes, and an amplified inflammatory response in AF. These findings could offer crucial insights for future research on AF and serve as valuable references for investigating novel therapeutic approaches for AF.

Abstract Background Thoracic aortic dissection (TAD) is a life-threatening disease caused by an intimal tear in the aorta. The histological characteristics differ significantly between the tear area (TA) and the distant area. Previous studies have emphasized that certain specific genes tend to cluster at the TA. Obtaining a thorough understanding of the precise molecular signatures near the TA will assist in discovering therapeutic strategies for TAD. Methods We performed a paired comparison of the pathological patterns in the TA with that in the remote area (RA). We used Tomo-seq, genome-wide transcriptional profiling with spatial resolution, to obtain gene expression signatures spanning from the TA to the RA. Samples from multiple sporadic TAD patients and animal models were used to validate our findings. Results Pathological examination revealed that the TA of TAD exhibited more pronounced intimal hyperplasia, media degeneration, and inflammatory infiltration compared to the RA. The TA also had more apoptotic cells and CD31+α-SMA+ cells. Tomo-seq revealed four distinct gene expression patterns from the TA to the RA, which were inflammation, collagen catabolism, extracellular matrix remodeling, and cell stress, respectively. The spatial distribution of genes allowed us to identify genes that were potentially relevant with TAD. NINJ1 encoded the protein-mediated cytoplasmic membrane rupture, regulated tissue remodeling, showed high expression levels in the tear area, and co-expressed within the inflammatory pattern. The use of short hairpin RNA to reduce NINJ1 expression in the beta-aminopropionitrile-induced TAD model led to a significant decrease in TAD formation. Additionally, it resulted in reduced infiltration of inflammatory cells and a decrease in the number of CD31+α-SMA+ cells. The NINJ1-neutralizing antibody also demonstrated comparable therapeutic effects and can effectively impede the formation of TAD. Conclusions Our study showed that Tomo-seq had the advantage of obtaining spatial expression information of TAD across the TA and the RA. We pointed out that NINJ1 may be involved in inflammation and tissue remodeling, which played an important role in the formation of TAD. NINJ1 may serve as a potential therapeutic target for TAD.

Abstract Depression is a highly prevalent and disabling mental disorder, involving numerous genetic changes that are associated with abnormal functions in multiple regions of the brain. However, there is little transcriptomic‐wide characterization of chronic social defeat stress (CSDS) to comprehensively compare the transcriptional changes in multiple brain regions. Spatial transcriptomics (ST) was used to reveal the spatial difference of gene expression in the control, resilient (RES) and susceptible (SUS) mouse brains, and annotated eight anatomical brain regions and six cell types. The gene expression profiles uncovered that CSDS leads to gene synchrony changes in different brain regions. Then it was identified that inhibitory neurons and synaptic functions in multiple regions were primarily affected by CSDS. The brain regions Hippocampus (HIP), Isocortex, and Amygdala (AMY) present more pronounced transcriptional changes in genes associated with depressive psychiatric disorders than other regions. Signalling communication between these three brain regions may play a critical role in susceptibility to CSDS. Taken together, this study provides important new insights into CSDS susceptibility at the ST level, which offers a new approach for understanding and treating depression.

Background and aimsinflammation plays an important role in atrial fibrillation (AF). In this study, we investigated the significance of immune cell infiltration in AF and identified the potential Hub genes involved in the regulation of immune cell infiltration in AF.Methodswe obtained AF datasets from the GEO database and analyzed them for obtaining differentially expressed genes (DEGs) by R software. Then, we performed GO, KEGG, and GSEA enrichment analyses of DEGs. The Hub genes of AF were determined by least absolute shrinkage selection operator (LASSO) regression analysis and weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA). Their validation was verified by using quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) in the AF rat model. Finally, we used a single sample GSEA (ssGSEA) to analyze immune cell infiltration and its relationship with hub genes.ResultsWe obtained 298 DGEs from the heatmap and found that DGEs were closely related to inflammation, immunity, and cytokine interactions by enrichment analyses. We obtained 10 co-expression modules by WGCNA. Among them, the module including CLEC4A, COTL1, EVI2B, FCER1G, GAPT, HCST, NCF2, PILRA, TLR8, and TYROBP had the highest correlation with AF. Four Hub genes (PILRA, NCF2, EVI2B, GAPT) were obtained further by LASSO analysis. The results suggested that the expression level of PILRA was significantly elevated in the rats with AF by qPCR, compared to the rats without AF. The results revealed that the infiltration of neutrophils, macrophages, monocytes, mast cells, immature B cells, myeloid-derived suppressor cell (MDSC), dendritic cell, and T cells and their partial subpopulations were closely related to AF by ssGSEA analysis, and PILRA was positively correlated with immature B cell, monocyte, macrophage, mast cell, dendritic cell, and T cells and their partial subpopulations by Spearman correlation analysis.ConclusionsPILRA was closely related to multiple types of immune cell infiltration, which may be associated with AF. PILRA may be a novel target of intervention for AF.

BackgroundAsymptomatic peripherally inserted central catheter-related thrombosis (PICC-RT) is one of the most common and dangerous complications caused by peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) insertion. A variety of factors might lead to huge psychological pressures on patients and markedly affect their quality of life. The aim of this study was to evaluate the benefits of an online multimodal nursing program on the quality of life and psychological resilience of asymptomatic PICC-RT patients with ovarian cancer.MethodsThis was a prospective cohort study on patients with asymptomatic PICC-RT. Patients in the control group received routine nursing care, while patients in the intervention group obtained extra assistance through an online multimodal nursing program. Individual guidance, psychological support, and real-time consultation were provided to patients in the intervention group. All participants were followed for 3 months. The health-related quality of life and psychological resilience of patients were evaluated by using the 36-item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) and Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), respectively.ResultsCompared to baseline, most of the items in the SF-36 scores were significantly increased in both intervention and control groups after 3 months (all p < 0.05), except for the role emotional domain (p = 0.085 in control group). However, the SF-36 scores of the intervention group were significantly higher than those of the control group in All health domains, including physical functioning (p = 0.001), role physical (p = 0.004), bodily pain (p = 0.003), general health (p < 0.001), vitality (p < 0.001), social functioning (p < 0.001), role emotional (p = 0.002), mental health (p < 0.001) and health transition (p < 0.001). For CD-RISC scores, the mean value of the control group was 42.03 ± 4.42 at baseline and increased to 50.36 ± 4.70 after 3 months (p < 0.001), while the intervention group was 40.00 ± 6.61 at baseline and increased to 65.12 ± 5.21 after 3 months (p < 0.001). Moreover, the CD-RISC score in the intervention group was significantly higher than that in the control group after 3 months (p < 0.001).ConclusionThe application of an online multimodal nursing program could significantly improve the health-related quality of life and psychological resilience of asymptomatic PICC-RT patients. These findings provide evidence to support the necessity of an online multimodal nursing program in routine long-term follow-up, especially in the era of COVID-19.

Abstract Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of hybrid transthoracic periventricular device closure of ventricular septal defects (VSDs) in a single center. Methods: All patients who underwent hybrid transthoracic periventricular device closure of VSDs between January 2018 and December 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. The preoperative, operative and postoperative findings and clinical follow-ups were reviewed. Results: A total of 59 patients underwent the procedure. Transesophageal echocardiographic guidance was used in all procedures. The procedure was successful in 57 procedures (97%). The procedures of two patients were changed to open-heart surgery during the same intervention due to severe aortic insufficiency (the device was not deployed) and significant residual shunt after device deployment. One major complication (1.7%) was observed after the procedure. The patient’s device was dislodged within 12 hours after the procedure, and this patient underwent device extraction and VSD patch closure due to significant residual shunt. Eight (14%) minor complications were observed after the procedure, and three of them persisted during follow-up. Three of these eight complications were incomplete right bundle branch block, one of which resolved during follow-up; two were mild residual shunts, one of which resolved during follow-up; two were mild new-onset tricuspid valve insufficiencies; and one was mild new-onset mitral valve insufficiency; all valvular insufficiencies were resolved during follow-up. Conclusions: Hybrid transthoracic periventricular device closure of VSD seems to be a good alternative approach due to its procedural success and low risk rates. The best advantage of the procedure is the possibility of switching to open-heart surgery, if necessary.

Abstract Background Duodenal Diaphragm in adults is very uncommon, caused by congenital and acquired changes. It is reported that acquired duodenal diaphragm is related to the long-term use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Case summary We report an adult presentation of duodenal diaphragm in a 77-year-old woman, suffered from acute cholangitis and choledocholithiasis. She was performed endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) procedure to remove the stone in common bile duct (CBD). After the stenosis ring dilated by endoscopic balloon dilatation, ERCP procedure was applied, and the CBD stone was removed successfully. Conclusion Duodenal diaphragm is difficult to diagnose in clinic. Although the patient in this case had relatively mild symptoms of incomplete upper hemi-abdominal obstruction, these symptoms could be obscured by the emergency acute upper abdominal pain with fever as clinical manifestations of acute cholangitis.

Abstract Background Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory and destructive arthritis. Understanding the incidence and prevalence of RA within the province facilitates appropriate health care resource planning. Objective To estimate the incidence/prevalence of RA over time for the overall provincial population, for specific age range categories, and for gender. Methods Saskatchewan Provincial Administrative Health Databases (2001–2014) were utilized as data sources. Two RA case-definitions were employed: 1) > three physician billing diagnoses, at least one of which was submitted by a specialist (rheumatologist, general internist or orthopedic surgeon) within 2 years; 2) > one hospitalization diagnosis (ICD-9-CM code-714, and ICD-10-CA code-M05). Data from these definitions were combined to identify incident and prevalent RA cases. Using this data, annual incidence and prevalence rates were calculated for the provincial population, specified age range categories and gender categories. Results The number of RA cases meeting the case definition increased from 3731 to 6223 over the study period. The incidence of RA disease demonstrated variation within the study period with age and sex adjusted incidence ranging from 33.6 (95% CI 29.9–37.6) per 100,000 to 73.1 (95% CI 67.6–79.0) per 100,000. The prevalence of RA increased over time from 482 (95% CI 466.7–497.7) per 100,000 in 2001–2002 to 683.4 (95% CI 666.6–700.6) per 100,000 in 2014–2015. Both incidence and prevalence rates rose with increasing age. Women were found to have higher incidence and prevalence rates compared to men. Conclusion In Saskatchewan, the overall prevalence of RA is rising while there has been variability in the incidence.

Background: Carnitine palmitoyltransferase 2 (CPT2) is a rate-limiting enzyme involved in fatty acid β-oxidation (FAO) regulation. Recently, it has been increasingly recognized that lipid metabolism dysregulation is closely implicated in tumorigenesis. However, the involvement of CPT2 in the progression of cancer is still largely unclear, especially in ovarian cancer (OC). Methods: In the present study, CPT2 expression and its clinical significance were determined in OC tissues and cells. The biological functions and molecular mechanisms of CPT2 in OC growth and metastasis were determined by in vitro and in vivo assays. Findings: We found that CPT2 was frequently down-regulated in primary ovarian serous carcinomas, which is significantly correlated with poor survival of ovarian cancer patients. Functional experiments revealed that CPT2 inhibited OC cell growth and metastasis via suppression of G1/S cell cycle transition and epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT), as well as induction of cell apoptosis. Mechanistically, suppression of ROS/NFκB signaling pathway by increasing fatty acid oxidation-derived NADPH production was involved in the anti-tumorigenic functions of CPT2 in OC cells. Interpretation: Altogether, our findings demonstrate that CPT2 functions as a potential tumor suppressor in OC progression. CPT2 may serve as a novel prognostic marker and therapeutic target in OC.

Cryptotanshinone (CTs), an active component isolated from the root of Salvia miltiorrhiza (SM), has been shown to exert potent neuroprotective property. We here established an oxygen-glucose deprivation/recovery (OGD/R)-injured Neurovascular Unit (NVU) model in vitro to observe the neuroprotective effects of CTs on cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury (CIRI), and explore the underlying mechanisms. CTs was observed to significantly inhibit the OGD/R-induced neuronal apoptosis, and decease the activation of Caspase-3 and the degradation of poly-ADP-ribose polymerase (PARP), as well as the increase of Bax/Bcl-2 ratio in neurons under OGD/R condition. The inhibitory effects of CTs on neuron apoptosis were associated with the blocking of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway. CTs also remarkably ameliorated OGD/R-induced reduction of transepithelial electrical resistance (TEER) values and the increase of transendothelial permeability coefficient (Pe) of sodium fluorescein (SF) by upregulating the expression of ZO-1, Claudin-5, and Occludin in brain microvascular endothelial cells (BMECs), which might be related to the down-regulation of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-9 expression. Based on these findings, CTs may play a neuroprotective role in OGD/R injure in NVU models in vitro by inhibiting cell apoptosis and alleviating the damage of blood-brain barrier (BBB).

This work reports the results of our investigation of the structure and mechanical properties of physical vapor deposition (PVD) and chemical vapor deposition (CVD) TiAlSiN coatings deposited on cemented carbide substrates. For the first time, a novel nanocomposite of Ti0.13Al0.85Si0.02N coating deposited from TiCl4-AlCl3-SiCl4-NH3-H2 gas precursors was prepared by low pressure chemical vapor deposition (LPCVD) at 780 °C and a pressure of 60 mbar, while PVD Ti0.31Al0.60Si0.09N coating was prepared using the arc ion plating method. The investigation results including morphology, microstructure, chemical composition, phase component, and hardness were carried out by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) equipped with energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and nano-indentator. TEM results revealed that both PVD and CVD TiAlSiN coatings consisted of nanocrystalline embedded in SiNx amorphous. The nanohardness of CVD Ti0.13Al0.85Si0.02N coating obtained in this work was 31.7 ± 1.4 GPa, which was 35% higher than that of the PVD Ti0.31Al0.60Si0.09N coating.

Thiamine deficiency (TD) has detrimental effects on brain health and neurobehavioral development, and it is associated with many aging-related neurological disorders. To facilitate TD-related neuropsychological studies, we generated a TD mouse model by feeding a thiamine-deficient diet for 30 days, followed by re-feeding the control diet for either one week or 16 weeks as recovery treatment. We then performed neurobehavioral tests in these two cohorts: cohort of one week post TD treatment (1 wk-PTDT) and 16 weeks post TD treatment (16 wks-PTDT). The TD mice showed no significant difference from control in any tests in the 1 wk-PTDT cohort at the age of 13–14 weeks. The tests for the 16 wks-PTDT cohort at the age of 28–29 weeks, however, demonstrated anxiety and reduced locomotion in TD animals in open field and elevated plus maze. In comparison, rotor rod and water maze revealed no differences between TD and control mice. The current findings of the differential effects of the same TD treatment on locomotion and anxiety at different ages may reflect the progressive and moderate change of TD-induced neurobehavioral effects. The study suggests that, even though the immediate neurobehavioral impact of TD is modest or negligible at a young age, the impact could develop and become severe during the aging process.

Exposure to hypobaric hypoxia causes neuron cell damage, resulting in impaired cognitive function. Effective interventions to antagonize hypobaric hypoxia-induced memory impairment are in urgent need. Ketogenic diet (KD) has been successfully used to treat drug-resistant epilepsy and improves cognitive behaviors in epilepsy patients and other pathophysiological animal models. In the present study, we aimed to explore the potential beneficial effects of a KD on memory impairment caused by hypobaric hypoxia and the underlying possible mechanisms. We showed that the KD recipe used was ketogenic and increased plasma levels of ketone bodies, especially β-hydroxybutyrate. The results of the behavior tests showed that the KD did not affect general locomotor activity but obviously promoted spatial learning. Moreover, the KD significantly improved the spatial memory impairment caused by hypobaric hypoxia (simulated altitude of 6000 m, 24 h). In addition, the improving-effect of KD was mimicked by intraperitoneal injection of BHB. The western blot and immunohistochemistry results showed that KD treatment not only increased the acetylated levels of histone H3 and histone H4 compared to that of the control group but also antagonized the decrease in the acetylated histone H3 and H4 when exposed to hypobaric hypoxia. Furthermore, KD-hypoxia treatment also promoted PKA/CREB activation and BDNF protein expression compared to the effects of hypoxia alone. These results demonstrated that KD is a promising strategy to improve spatial memory impairment caused by hypobaric hypoxia, in which increased modification of histone acetylation plays an important role.

Neurogenesis in the adult brain occurs mainly within two neurogenic structures, the dentate gyrus (DG) of the hippocampus and the sub-ventricular zone (SVZ) of the forebrain. It has been reported that mild hypoxia promoted the proliferation of Neural Stem Cells (NSCs)in vitro. Our previous study further demonstrated that an external hypoxic environment stimulated neurogenesis in the adult rat brain in vivo. However, it remains unknown how external hypoxic environments affect the oxygen content in the brain and result in neurogenesis. Here we use an optical fiber luminescent oxygen sensor to detect the oxygen content in the adult rat brain in situ under normoxia and hypoxia. We found that the distribution of oxygen in cerebral regions is spatiotemporally heterogeneous. The Po2 values in the ventricles (45∼50 Torr) and DG (approximately 10 Torr) were much higher than those of other parts of the brain, such as the cortex and thalamus (approximately 2 Torr). Interestingly, our in vivo studies showed that an external hypoxic environment could change the intrinsic oxygen content in brain tissues, notably reducing oxygen levels in both the DG and SVZ, the major sites of adult neurogenesis. Furthermore, the hypoxic environment also increased the expression of HIF-1α and VEGF, two factors that have been reported to regulate neurogenesis, within the DG and SVZ. Thus, we have demonstrated that reducing the oxygen content of the external environment decreased Po2 levels in the DG and SVZ. This reduced oxygen level in the DG and SVZ might be the main mechanism triggering neurogenesis in the adult brain. More importantly, we speculate that varying oxygen levels may be the physiological basis of the regionally restricted neurogenesis in the adult brain.

Corn silk is a well-known ingredient frequently used in traditional Chinese herbal medicines. This study was designed to evaluate the anti-diabetic, anti-oxidant and anti-hyperlipidemic activities of crude flavonoids extracted from corn silk (CSFs) on streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic mice. The results revealed that treatment with 300 mg/kg or 500 mg/kg of CSFs significantly reduced the body weight loss, water consumption, and especially the blood glucose (BG) concentration of diabetic mice, which indicated their potential anti-diabetic activities. Serum total superoxide dismutase (SOD) and malondialdehyde (MDA) assays were also performed to evaluate the anti-oxidant effects. Besides, several serum lipid values including total cholesterol (TC), triacylglycerol (TG), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) were reduced and the high density lipoprotein cholesterol level (HDL-C) was increased. The anti-diabetic, anti-oxidant and anti-hyperlipidemic effect of the CSFs suggest a potential therapeutic treatment for diabetic conditions.

To observe the clinical therapeutic effect and mental state of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) in patients with functional dyspepsia (FD). In this study, 80 patients suffering from FD in an outpatient clinic were enrolled from January to December 2020. Patients were randomly allocated into the control group (conventional treatment) and observation group (MBCT treatment). Patients in the control group were prescribed rabeprazole and mosapiride, and patients in the observation group were given MBCT therapy in addition to the above drugs. After treatment for 8 weeks, the changes in gastrointestinal symptom scores, anxiety, depression, mindfulness and sleep quality and gastric emptying testing were compared between these two groups. The observation group showed strikingly lower gastrointestinal symptom scores, SAS, SDS, PSQI, and SCL-90 scale scores, and higher FFMQ scale scores than the control group (p < 0.05). There was no conspicuous change in gastric emptying monitoring (p > 0.05). MBCT therapy can improve patients' gastrointestinal symptoms, attenuate their anxiety and depression levels, and ameliorate their sleep quality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
