A case study of a middle aged male patient manifesting cirrhosis accompanied with fever and diagnosed with ascots and abdominal tenderness is presented. The bacterial peritonitis is diagnosed in the ascitic fluid samples of the patients.

A 43-year-old man is diagnosed with hereditary hemochromatosis due to a mutation in the HFE gene with diabetes, hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, and probable hepatic cirrhosis. It is found that this case is consistent with HFE-related hereditary hemochromatosis with severe iron overload.

A 57-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of a mass, that was 4 cm in diameter, in the dome of the right lobe of the liver, which was identified with the help of computed tomographic (CT) scanning and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the abdominal area. The rapid development of alcoholic cirrhosis in a bulimic and alcoholic patient, indicates the possible role of the eating disorder in accelerating the development of liver cirrhosis. Other possible predisposing factors include alcohol abuse and obesity. The numerous complications of the case illustrate the possibility of an interaction between eating disorders and alcoholism in rapid acceleration of cirrhosis. The association between liver damage and eating disorders is discussed. The need for prompt and aggressive treatment of eating disorders and comorbid alcohol abuse is emphasized.

A33-year-old women died from cirrhosis of the liver and pulmonary hypertension. The patient was admitted to the hospital with liver and respiratory failure to be evaluated for liver and lung transplantation. Seven years earlier, her liver became enlarged, and she was diagnosed with sarcoidosis. She began experiencing weakness and shortness of breath five months before admission, and had two fainting episodes two months before admission. She drank one glass of alcohol per week, and had no history of hepatitis. Tests for hepatitis and HIV infection were negative. A computed tomographic (CT) scan of the abdomen revealed liver nodules and an enlarged spleen. A CT scan of the chest showed large amounts of fluid in the lungs, and lung function was abnormal. Six days after admission, she experienced extreme respiratory distress, and died after cardiac arrest. An autopsy revealed cirrhosis of the liver and severe pulmonary hypertension caused by the cirrhosis.

A 50-year-old man with alcoholic cirrhosis was admitted to Massachusetts General Hospital because of bleeding in his gastrointestinal system. Bleeding in alcoholic individuals is common, as the blockage of blood through the veins in the liver leads to increased pressure throughout the venous system. This case was studied because the usual types of bleeding seen in alcoholic patients, particularly from vessels in the esophagus and stomach, were not evident. The study presents the hospital record of a patient who is slowly deteriorating without a definitive location of his bleeding being determined. On the basis of the record, a potential diagnosis of an unusual pattern of bleeding from vessels in the membranes which support the intestines (mesenteries) is suggested, and ultimately confirmed by the pathologist's autopsy report.
