1. Influencing factors and establishment of a prediction model for the tumor regression after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy in locally advanced rectal cancer

Abstract

Background and purpose: The standard therapy for locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) is neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) followed by surgery. NCRT can make the tumor regress and downstage, and increase the R0 resection rate. However, individual differences in rectal cancer are large, and some patients respond poorly to nCRT and cannot benefit from nCRT. Therefore, it is necessary to establish effective screening measures to identify patients with poor response to nCRT. This study aimed to analyze the influencing factors of nCRT for LARC and construct the tumor regression prediction model. Methods: Data of 158 LARC patients who underwent total mesenteric resection after receiving nCRT at the First Hospital Affiliated to Air Force Medical University from January 2016 to December 2020 were collected. Baseline clinical indicators before nCRT were collected, including laboratory examination, tumor markers and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). According to the tumor size reported by MRI before and after nCRT, Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST) was used to evaluate the extent of tumor regression after nCRT. After receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to standardize the clinical baseline indicators, logistic regression analysis was carried out to screen the factors affecting the tumor regression. The tumor regression prediction model was constructed by logistic regression, and the performance of the model was evaluated based on decision curve analysis (DCA) and the calibration curve. The accuracy of the model was tested by 10-fold cross-validation. Results: This retrospective cohort study enrolled 158 patients, in which, 98 patients achieved complete response (CR) or partial response (PR). The objective response rate was 62%. Based on the non-cooperative and non-zero-sum dynamic game theory, a complete Bayesian system of emotional game bodies is established. Use the “virtual node” to transform the attack and defense chart into a tree structure of the attack and defense game. Abstract

Visual matching of plane images has promoted the development of artificial intelligence and digital vision. High-precision visual matching can promote the innovation of geometric measurement, visual navigation and other fields. Therefore, a non-linear visual matching model with inherent constraints is established in this paper. First, according to the principle of visual imaging, a non-linear conversion model of visual point coordinates is proposed, and the deviation of coordinate points is proofread. Then, inherent boundary constraints are introduced into the model to improve the accuracy of visual matching. Finally, through analysis and evaluation of error, results are generated showing that the visual matching model can effectively solve the shortcoming of low-matching accuracy in feature points, and provide more accurate data support for 3D calculation of images.

Abstract

ObjectiveTo optimize the enzymatic hydrolysis technology of bioactive peptide in Katsuwonus pelamis and observe the anti-fatigue effect of bioactive peptide on mice.MethodsWith the yield of bioactive peptide in Katsuwonus pelamis as the evaluation index, the papain, neutral protease, flavor protease, alkaline protease and acid protease were used to screen out the best enzymes for Katsuwonus pelamis surimi. The effects of solid-liquid ratio, enzyme amount, enzymatic reaction time and temperature on the enzymatic hydrolysis were investigated. The response surface methodology was designed based on the single factor experiment to obtain the optimal enzymatic hydrolysis condition of bioactive peptide in Katsuwonus pelamis. The fatigue mice model was established by incremental loaded swimming training and the experiment mice were randomly divided into quiet blank group, exercise model group, positive control group, low-, medium- and high-dose of bioactive peptide in Katsuwonus pelamis groups (200, 400, 800 mg/kg, respectively) according to the body mass. Except for the quiet blank group, the other groups were trained with incremental loaded swimming with the training time as the variable. The loaded swimming test was conducted to detect the exhaustion time of mice. The contents of serum urea nitrogen (BUN) and serum lactic acid (LD), serum lactic dehydrogenase (LDH) activity, liver malondialdehyde (MDA) content and liver superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity were measured with corresponding kits.Results1) The yield of bioactive peptide in Katsuwonus pelamis hydrolyzed by flavor protease was statistically higher than that of neutral protease, papain, alkaline protease and acid protease (PPKatsuwonus pelamis was 33.166%. 2) The contents of BUN, LD, MDA, and the activities of LDH, SOD in the exercise model group were significantly higher than those in the quiet blank group (PKatsuwonus pelamis groups were significantly prolonged (PPPKatsuwonus pelamis with flavor protease, which verified that bioactive peptide in Katsuwonus pelamis could relieve fatigue in exhausted swimming mice.

Abstract

We prove a general result on the existence of irreducible symplectic compactifications of non-compact Lagrangian fibrations. As an application, we show that the relative Jacobian fibration of cubic fivefolds containing a fixed cubic fourfold can be compactified by a $\mathbb{Q}$-factorial terminal irreducible symplectic variety with the second Betti number at least 24, and admits a Lagrangian fibration whose base is a weighted projective space. 6. Castelnuovo bound for curves in projective 3-folds

Abstract

The Castelnuovo bound conjecture, which is proposed by physicists, predicts an effective vanishing result for Gopakumar-Vafa invariants of Calabi-Yau 3-folds of Picard number one. Previously, it is only known for a few cases and all the proofs rely on the Bogomolov-Gieseker conjecture of Bayer-Macr\`i-Toda. In this paper, we prove the Castelnuovo bound conjecture for any Calabi-Yau 3-folds of Picard number one, up to a linear term and finitely many degree, without assuming the conjecture of Bayer-Macr\`i-Toda. Furthermore, we prove an effective vanishing theorem for surface-counting invariants of Calabi-Yau 4-folds of Picard number one. We also apply our techniques to study low-degree curves on some explicit Calabi-Yau 3-folds. Our approach is based on a general iterative method to obtain upper bounds for the genus of one-dimensional closed subschemes in a fixed 3-fold, which is a combination of classical techniques and the wall-crossing of weak stability conditions on derived categories, and works for any projective 3-fold with at worst isolated singularities over any algebraically closed field., Comment: 39 pages. 7. Atomic sheaves on hyper-K\'ahler manifolds via Bridgeland moduli spaces

Abstract

In this paper, we provide new examples of 1-obstructed and atomic sheaves on an infinite series of locally complete families of projective hyper-K\"ahler manifolds. More precisely, (1) we prove that the fixed loci of the natural anti-symplectic involutions on the moduli spaces of stable objects in the Kuznetsov component $\mathcal{K}u(X)$ of a Gushel--Mukai fourfold $X$ are 1-obstructed Lagrangian submanifolds, (2) we construct a family of immersed atomic Lagrangian submanifolds on each moduli space of stable objects in $\mathcal{K}u(X)$, and (3) we construct non-rigid projectively hyperholomorphic twisted bundles on any hyper-K\"ahler manifold of $\mathrm{K3^{[n]}}$-type for infinitely many $n$. 8. Dynamic Load Sharing Characteristic of Planetary Transmission Considering Number of Planetary Wheel and Clearance

Abstract

In order to study the influence of the number of planetary wheel and clearance on the dynamic load sharing characteristics of the planetary transmission system， based on the lumped parameter theory， considering the factors such as error， support stiffness， load and clearance， the dynamics model of the central wheel floating planetary transmission system is established. The model is solved by Runge-Kutta numerical method， and the relationship between the number of planetary wheel， the clearance and the load sharing characteristics is established. The results show that， with the change of the tooth flank clearance， the load sharing coefficient decreases rapidly and tend to be gentle， and the tooth flank clearance has a compensating effect， which reduces the uneven distribution caused by the increase of the planetary gears and improves the load sharing characteristics of the system. As the support clearance increases， the load sharing coefficient decreases almost at a constant speed， and the support clearance makes the system in a floating transmission state， which has better load sharing characteristics. When the torque is small， the system is highly sensitive to the clearance and can effectively alleviate the problem of uneven distribution caused by the error. As the torque increases， the error excitation is suppressed and the load sharing performance is improved.

9. Study on the Influence of Tooth Surface Friction on Bifurcation Characteristic of Multiple Clearance Bending and Torsion Coupling Gear

Abstract

In order to study the gear bifurcation characteristic under the influence of tooth surface friction, based on the lumped parameter theory, considering the non-linear factors such as tooth surface friction, time-varying meshing stiffness, gear backlash and bearing clearance, a six-degree-of-freedom bending-torsion coupled vibration model of gear pairs is established. The Runge-Kutta numerical method is used to solve the model, and the influence of tooth surface friction on the bifurcation characteristics of the system is analyzed with various parameters. The results show that with the increase of rotational speed, the chaotic characteristics of the toothless surface friction are obvious, and with the increase of friction coefficient, the bifurcation outside the chaotic region will lead to the bifurcation inside the chaotic region. With the increase of tooth clearance, the amplitude of the system increases continuously without the tooth surface friction, and the chaotic state is inhibited with the increase of the tooth surface friction. With the increase of tooth surface friction, the blocking trend and suppression effect of the chaotic region are more significant with the increase of the damping coefficient.

Abstract

Let $X$ be a very general Gushel-Mukai (GM) variety of dimension $n\geq 4$, and let $Y$ be a smooth hyperplane section. There are natural pull-back and push-forward functors between the semi-orthogonal components (known as the Kuznetsov components) of the derived categories of $X$ and $Y$. In the first part of the paper, we prove that the Bridgeland stability of objects is preserved by both pull-back and push-forward functors. We then explore various applications of this result, such as constructing an 8-dimensional smooth family of Lagrangian subvarieties for each moduli space of stable objects in the Kuznetsov component of a general GM fourfold, and proving the projectivity of the moduli spaces of semistable objects of any class in the Kuznetsov component of a general GM threefold, as conjectured by Perry, Pertusi, and Zhao. In the second part, we study in detail the double EPW cube, a 6-dimensional hyperk\"ahler manifold associated with a very general GM fourfold $X$, through the Bridgeland moduli space, and show that it is the maximal rationally connected (MRC) quotient of the Hilbert scheme of twisted cubics on $X$. 11. Low-Tubal-Rank Tensor Recovery via Factorized Gradient Descent

Abstract

This paper considers the problem of recovering a tensor with an underlying low-tubal-rank structure from a small number of corrupted linear measurements. Traditional approaches tackling such a problem require the computation of tensor Singular Value Decomposition (t-SVD), that is a computationally intensive process, rendering them impractical for dealing with large-scale tensors. Aim to address this challenge, we propose an efficient and effective low-tubal-rank tensor recovery method based on a factorization procedure akin to the Burer-Monteiro (BM) method. Precisely, our fundamental approach involves decomposing a large tensor into two smaller factor tensors, followed by solving the problem through factorized gradient descent (FGD). This strategy eliminates the need for t-SVD computation, thereby reducing computational costs and storage requirements. We provide rigorous theoretical analysis to ensure the convergence of FGD under both noise-free and noisy situations. Additionally, it is worth noting that our method does not require the precise estimation of the tensor tubal-rank. Even in cases where the tubal-rank is slightly overestimated, our approach continues to demonstrate robust performance. A series of experiments have been carried out to demonstrate that, as compared to other popular ones, our approach exhibits superior performance in multiple scenarios, in terms of the faster computational speed and the smaller convergence error., Comment: 13 pages, 4 figures

Abstract

This report introduces a new family of multimodal models, Gemini, that exhibit remarkable capabilities across image, audio, video, and text understanding. The Gemini family consists of Ultra, Pro, and Nano sizes, suitable for applications ranging from complex reasoning tasks to on-device memory-constrained use-cases. Evaluation on a broad range of benchmarks shows that our most-capable Gemini Ultra model advances the state of the art in 30 of 32 of these benchmarks - notably being the first model to achieve human-expert performance on the well-studied exam benchmark MMLU, and improving the state of the art in every one of the 20 multimodal benchmarks we examined. We believe that the new capabilities of the Gemini family in cross-modal reasoning and language understanding will enable a wide variety of use cases. We discuss our approach toward post-training and deploying Gemini models responsibly to users through services including Gemini, Gemini Advanced, Google AI Studio, and Cloud Vertex AI.

Let $X$ be a cubic threefold, quartic double solid or Gushel--Mukai threefold, and $\mathcal{K}u(X)\subset \mathrm{D}^b(X)$ be its Kuznetsov component. We show that a stability condition $\sigma$ on $\mathcal{K}u(X)$ is Serre-invariant if and only if its homological dimension is at most $2$. 14. Epidemiological analysis of maternal deaths in Hunan province in China between 2009 and 2014.

Abstract

BACKGROUND:The control of maternal deaths continues to be a significant public health issue and commands an enormous amount of attention, especially under the future family planning policy. Here, we describe the epidemiology and trends of maternal deaths in Hunan province, and give several policy implications. METHODS:Maternal deaths in Hunan province between 2009 and 2014 were retrospectively reviewed and analyzed. Cochran-Armitage trend test was used to assess the time trends of maternal mortality rates. Binary logistic regression analyses were undertaken to identify the factors that were associated with unavoidable maternal deaths. RESULTS:In total, there were 987 maternal deaths, with the overall MMR declining by 45.24%. The most common causes of maternal death during this period were pregnancy complications (28.37%), obstetric hemorrhage (25.33%), and amniotic fluid embolism (15.70%). Obstetric hemorrhage (28.14%) was higher in rural areas, while pregnancy complications were higher (29.27%) in urban areas. In all, 627 (63.5%) deaths were avoidable. The risk factors associated with unavoidable maternal deaths was above 35 years (aOR = 1.80 95%CI: 1.27-2.55), without prenatal examination (aOR = 8.97 95%CI: 1.11-7.78), low household incomes (aOR = 1.15 95%CI: 1.02-1.29), without adopting the new way to deliver (aOR = 5.15 95%CI: 3.20-8.31), and death location (aOR = 1.09 95%CI: 1.02-1.18). The most frequent and important factors associated with avoidable deaths was improper knowledge and skills of the county medical institutions. CONCLUSIONS:Moderate progress was made in reducing the MMR in Hunan province. The government should aim to improve the basic midwifery skills in rural areas and the obstetric emergency rescue service for critically ill pregnant women in urban areas, and strengthen training to improve knowledge and skills in medical institutions in counties.

Abstract

The transcription factors FLOWERING LOCUS C (FLC) and SHORT VEGETATIVE PHASE (SVP) can interact to form homologous and heterologous protein complexes that regulate flowering time in Brassica juncea Coss. (Mustard).Previous studies showed that protein interactions were mediated by the K domain, which contains the subdomains K1, K2 and K3. However, it remains unknown how the subdomains mediate the interactions between FLC and SVP. In the present study, we constructed several mutants of subdomains K1–K3 and investigated the mechanisms involved in the heterologous interaction of BjFLC/BjSVP and in the homologous interaction of BjFLC/BjFLC or BjSVP/BjSVP. Yeast two-hybrid and β-Galactosidase activity assays showed that the 19 amino acids of the K1 subdomain in BjSVP and the 17 amino acids of the K1 subdomain in BjFLC were functional subdomains that interact with each other to mediate hetero-dimerization. The heterologous interaction was enhanced by the K2 subdomain of BjSVP protein, but weakened by its interhelical domain L2. The heterologous interaction was also enhanced by the K2 subdomain of BjFLC protein, but weakened by its K3 subdomain. The homologous interaction of BjSVP was mediated by the full K-domain. However, the homologous interaction of BjFLC was regulated only by its K1 and weakened by its K2 and K3 subdomains. The results provided new insights into the interactions between FLC and SVP, which will be valuable for further studies on the molecular regulation mechanisms of the regulation of flowering time in B. juncea and other Brassicaceae.

24. New perspectives on categorical Torelli theorems for del Pezzo threefolds

Abstract

Let $Y_d$ be a del Pezzo threefold of Picard rank one and degree $d\geq 2$. In this paper, we apply two different viewpoints to study $Y_d$ via a particular admissible subcategory of its bounded derived category, called the Kuznetsov component: (i) Brill-Noether reconstruction. We show that $Y_d$ can be uniquely recovered as a Brill-Noether locus of Bridgeland stable objects in its Kuznetsov component. (ii) Exact equivalences. We prove that, up to composing with an explicit auto-equivalence, any Fourier-Mukai type equivalence of Kuznetsov components of two del Pezzo threefolds of degree $2\leq d\leq 4$ can be lifted to an equivalence of their bounded derived categories. As a result, we obtain a complete description of the group of Fourier-Mukai type auto-equivalences of the Kuznetsov component of $Y_d$. We also describe the group of Fourier-Mukai type auto-equivalences of Kuznetsov components of index one prime Fano threefolds $X_{2g-2}$ of genus $g=6$ and $8$. As an application, first we identify the group of automorphisms of $X_{14}$ and its associated $Y_3$. Then we give a new disproof of Kuznetsov's Fano threefold conjecture by assuming Gushel-Mukai threefolds are general. Abstract

Doped HfO2 thin films exhibit robust ferroelectric properties even for nanometric thicknesses, are compatible with current Si technology and thus have great potential for the revival of integrated ferroelectrics. Phase control and reliability are core issues for their applications. Here we show that, in (111)-oriented 5%La:HfO2 (HLO) epitaxial thin films deposited on (La0.3Sr0.7)(Al0.65Ta0.35)O3 substrates, the flexoelectric effect, arising from the strain gradient along the films normal, induces a rhombohedral distortion in the otherwise Pca21 orthorhombic structure. Density functional calculations reveal that the distorted structure is indeed more stable than the pure Pca21 structure, when applying an electric field mimicking the flexoelectric field. This rhombohedral distortion greatly improves the fatigue endurance of HLO thin films by further stabilizing the metastable ferroelectric phase against the transition to the thermodynamically stable non-polar monoclinic phase during repetitive cycling. Our results demonstrate that the flexoelectric effect, though negligibly weak in bulk, is crucial to optimize the structure and properties of doped HfO2 thin films with nanometric thicknesses for integrated ferroelectric applications.

Abstract

We prove a conjectural vanishing result for Gopakumar--Vafa invariants of quintic 3-folds, referred to as Castelnuovo bound in the literature. Furthermore, we calculate Gopakumar--Vafa invariants at Castelnuovo bound $g=\frac{d^2+5d+10}{10}$. As physicists showed, these two properties allow us to compute all Gromov--Witten invariants of quintic 3-folds up to genus $53$, provided that the conifold gap condition holds. Abstract

The winning rule of billiards is to drive the billiard ball on the table into the designated holes. We try to study the trajectory of the billiard ball, so that we can predict the direction of the ball. For rational slopes, we got cutting sequence by setting up the square torus. We simplified cutting sequence using shearing and flipping and we obtain the transformation between trajectory slope and cutting sequence. For irrational slopes, we look at some properties of Sturmian sequence, which help us distinguish between cutting sequence and Sturmian sequence. Abstract

The TOPKAPI (TOPographic Kinematic APproximation and Integration) model is a physically based rainfall-runoff model derived from the integration in space of the kinematic wave model. In the TOPKAPI model, rainfall-runoff and runoff routing processes are described by three nonlinear reservoir differential equations that are structurally similar and describe different hydrological and hydraulic processes. Equations are integrated over grid cells that describe the geometry of the catchment, leading to a cascade of nonlinear reservoir equations. For the sake of improving the model's computation precision, this paper provides the general form of these equations and describes the solution by means of a numerical algorithm, the variable-step fourth-order Runge-Kutta algorithm. For the purpose of assessing the quality of the comprehensive numerical algorithm, this paper presents a case study application to the Buliu River Basin, which has an area of 3 310 km2, using a DEM (digital elevation model) grid with a resolution of 1 km. The results show that the variable-step fourth-order Runge-Kutta algorithm for nonlinear reservoir equations is a good approximation of subsurface flow in the soil matrix, overland flow over the slopes, and surface flow in the channel network, allowing us to retain the physical properties of the original equations at scales ranging from a few meters to 1 km.

Abstract

We show by a uniform argument that every index one prime Fano threefold $X$ of genus $g\geq 6$ can be reconstructed as a Brill--Noether locus inside a Bridgeland moduli space of stable objects in the Kuznetsov component $\mathcal{K}u(X)$. As an application, we prove refined categorical Torelli theorems for $X$ and compute the fiber of the period map for each Fano threefold of genus $g\geq 7$ in terms of a certain gluing object associated with the subcategory $\langle \mathcal{O}_X \rangle^{\perp}$. Abstract

The complex driving environment brings great challenges to the visual perception of autonomous vehicles. It's essential to extract clear and explainable information from the complex road and traffic scenarios and offer clues to decision and control. However, the previous scene explanation had been implemented as a separate model. The black box model makes it difficult to interpret the driving environment. It cannot detect comprehensive textual information and requires a high computational load and time consumption. Thus, this study proposed a comprehensive and efficient textual explanation model. From 336k video frames of the driving environment, critical images of complex road and traffic scenarios were selected into a dataset. Through transfer learning, this study established an accurate and efficient segmentation model to obtain the critical traffic elements in the environment. Based on the XGBoost algorithm, a comprehensive model was developed. The model provided textual information about states of traffic elements, the motion of conflict objects, and scenario complexity. The approach was verified on the real-world road. It improved the perception accuracy of critical traffic elements to 78.8%. The time consumption reached 13 minutes for each epoch, which was 11.5 times more efficient than the pre-trained network. The textual information analyzed from the model was also accordant with reality. The findings offer clear and explainable information about the complex driving environment, which lays a foundation for subsequent decision and control. It can improve the visual perception ability and enrich the prior knowledge and judgments of complex traffic situations.

We propose two conjectures on a moduli theoretic approach to constructing Lagrangian subvarieties of hyperk\"ahler varieties arising from the Kuznetsov components of cubic fourfolds or Gushel--Mukai fourfolds. Then we verify the conjectures in several cases, recovering classical examples. Abstract

Let $X$ be a smooth Fano variety and $\mathcal{K}u(X)$ the Kuznetsov component. Torelli theorems for $\mathcal{K}u(X)$ says that it is uniquely determined by a polarized abelian variety attached to it. An infinitesimal Torelli theorem for $X$ says that the differential of the period map is injective. A categorical variant of infinitesimal Torelli theorem for $X$ says that the morphism $H^1(X,T_X)\xrightarrow{\eta} HH^2(\mathcal{K}u(X))$ is injective. In the present article, we use the machinery of Hochschild (co)homology to relate the three Torelli-type theorems for smooth Fano varieties via a commutative diagram. As an application, we first prove infinitesimal categorical Torelli theorem for a class of prime Fano threefolds. We identify the double dual EPW sextic $\widetilde{Y}_{A^{\perp}}$ and the double EPW sextic $\widetilde{Y}_A$, associated with a very general Gushel-Mukai fourfold $X$, with the Bridgeland moduli spaces of stable objects of character $\Lambda_1$ and $\Lambda_2$ in the Kuznetsov component $\mathcal{K}u(X)$. This provides an affirmative answer to a question of Perry-Pertusi-Zhao.
