The self-similarity, high geometric symmetry and spatial utilization properties of fractal structures provide new methods for the development of absorbing metamaterials. In this paper, the microwave absorption properties of the gradient dendritic fractal metamaterial structure (GDFMs) based on carbon black and acrylonitrile–butadiene–styrene composites were investigated. The optimal metamaterial structure has an effective absorption in the frequency range of 4.5–40 GHz. The rotational-symmetry GDFMs leads to the polarization independence, and the GDFMs exhibits a wide-angle absorption performance for both TE and TM waves. It is expected that the proposed GDFMs has good application prospects in electromagnetic wave absorption.

Unlike a generally rough ground surface, the sea surface varies over time. To analyze the impact of the motion of sea waves on the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image of a target, the wideband echo simulation method based on a frequency domain is used. For the wideband echo, the electromagnetic (EM) scattering properties of the main frequency components are analyzed by the simulation method. Based on the EM scattering properties, the echo can be accurately simulated by using the inverse fast Fourier transformation (IFFT). Combined with the flight path of the radar, the echo of each pulse can be simulated to obtain the SAR image. The correct evaluation of the EM scattering properties is indispensable to the acquisition of an accurate SAR image. For complex targets, such as ships, the multiple scattering effects have a significant influence on the EM scattering properties. Thus, a rectangular wave beam-based geometrical optics and physical optics (GO/PO) method is introduced to calculate the EM scattering properties, which is more efficient than the traditional GO/PO. The GO/PO method is suitable to simulate SAR images in which the EM scattering properties of each pulse need to be calculated. With these methods, the SAR images of the target on the sea surface are simulated. Based on the comparison of the SAR images between a static and dynamic sea surface, it is found that the region corresponding to the target is blurred and the texture of the dynamic sea is blurrier. The impact of multiple scattering and sea wave motion on target recognition are also analyzed with the SAR images that were generated under different conditions. Some strong scattering points appear when multiple scattering effects are considered. It is also found that the texture of the SAR images, corresponding to the sea surface, changes with the synthetic aperture time.

Objectives To investigate the anti-inflammatory components from the leaves of Liriodendron chinensis. Methods The 95% alcohol extract from the leaves of L. chinensis was subjected to column chromatography, and the structures of purified compounds were determined by spectral methods. The bioassay was performed through the inhibitory effects on the inflammatory cells activated by lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Results Nine compounds were isolated, including octacosanoic acid (1), stearic acid (2), (2R)-2-hydroxy-N-[(2S,3S,4R,8E)-1,3,4-tri-hydroxyicos-8-en-2-yl]tetracosanamide (3), (2R)-2-hydroxy-N-[(2S,3S,4R,8E)-1-O-β-D-glucopyranosyloxy-3,4-dihydroxy-octadec-8-en-2-yl]eicosanamide (4), (2R)-2-hydroxy-N-[(2S,3S,4R,8E)-1-O-β-D-glucopyranosyloxy-3,4-dihydroxyoctadec-8-en-2-yl]hexadecanamide (5), dicentrinone (6), liriodenine (7), daucosterol (8), and liriodendritol (9) and among which five compounds could significantly lower the content of nitric oxide (NO) from peritoneal macrophages of rats induced by LPS and reduce the splenic lymphocyte proliferation in mice. This is the first report on the occurrence of ceramides and dicentrinone in the plants of Liriodendron Linn. Conclusion The five compounds are likely to be anti-inflammatory compounds concerning to their pronounced inhibitory action on the activated inflammatory cells. This assessment might provide a basis for searching the potent active compounds used for the treatment of inflammation.

NiCr/ZrO2gradated coatings were obtained on C45 carbon steel by high velocity arc spraying and micro-plasma spraying to improve the mechanical and thermal behaviors of the carbon steel. Scanning electronic microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were employed to characterize the microstructure of the prepared composite coatings. Mechanical properties including hardness and bonding strength were also evaluated by microhardness tester and electron tensile tester. The thermal shock behaviors were investigated by quenching the coating samples in cold water from 900 °C and 1100 °C, respectively. The oxidation of NiCr/ZrO2gradated coating and C45 carbon steel substrate were carried out for up to 108 hours in air atmosphere at 1100°C. The oxidation behaviors were investigated after detailed examinations by thermal gravimetric analysis. Experimental results indicate that NiCr/ZrO2gradated coating exhibit a much higher hardness and high temperature oxidation behavior than the substrate. The bonding strength and thermal shock behavior of NiCr/ZrO2are superior to pure ZrO2coating, which could be mainly attributed to the NiCr intermediate graded layer due to the microstructure improvement and relaxation of residual stress concentration.

CNTs-SiC/Al2O3-TiO2 coatings were prepared by micro-plasma spraying. Microstructure, high temperature oxidation resistance, complex permittivity and absorbing performance of CNTs-SiC/Al2O3-TiO2 coatings were studied. The coatings were density, low porosity. Little oxidation occurred during the spraying process. The phase of β-SiC and C were successfully retained during the plasma spraying process. The high temperature oxidation of CNTs-SiC/Al2O3-TiO2 composite coating is improved compared with that of CNTs. The initial weight loss temperature of CNTs-SiC/Al2O3-TiO2 composite coating is raised to 511°C. The weight loss of the sample heated from 35°C to 700°C is 0.71 wt%, while the weight loss of the sample held for 60 min at 700°C is 0.41wt%. The real parts of complex permittivity of the CNTs-SiC/Al2O3-TiO2 composites decrease from 17.3 to 10.3 with the increasing frequency. And with increasing frequency, the real parts of complex permittivity of the composites decrease from 6.3 to 2.9. This tendency is beneficial for the absorption of the microwave with wide frequency band. The CNTs-SiC/Al2O3-TiO2 coatings have ability of absorbing microwave. The microwave absorbing performance of the coating with thickness of 0.9 mm is pure. However, with the increase of the coating thickness, the microwave absorption properties were enhanced and the minimum reflection loss shifts to low frequency with the increase of the coating thickness. 1188 无 机 材 料 学 报 第 25卷

In this paper, we have studied on the absorbing properties of three different types of SiC absorbers such as ultra-fine SiC, SiC whisker and nanometer SiC. Electromagnetic parameters of the three types of SiC were tested in the frequency range of 2~18GHz. Both the real and imaginary parts of complex permittivity of nanometer SiC are higher than that of others. The attenuation constant of nanometer SiC is higher than that of ultra-fine SiC and SiC whisker, increasing from 93.7 to 766.5 with increasing frequency. The minimum reflection loss of -5.53 dB was obtained at 9.72 GHz for the nanometer SiC. The nanometer SiC suggests a better capacity of dielectric loss in microwave range than that of ultra-fine SiC and SiC whisker.

Ni-Cr coating and Ni-Cr/ZrO2 gradated coating were deposited on C45 carbon steel by high velocity arc spraying and micro-plasma spraying to solve the high temperature oxidation problem of medium carbon steel components. The oxidations of Ni-Cr coating, Ni-Cr/ZrO2 gradated coating and C45 carbon steel substrate were carried out for up to 108 hours in air atmosphere at 1100°C. The oxidation behaviors were investigated after detailed examinations by thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), x-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Ni-Cr coating and Ni-Cr/ZrO2 gradated coating show similar and low dynamics curve near to the logarithms function. Surface observations with SEM and XRD reveal that the oxidizing surface of the C45 carbon steel substrate is mainly a loose spherical structure consisted of mainly Fe2O3 and Fe3O4. The surface structures of Ni-Cr coating and Ni-Cr/ZrO2 gradated coating after 108 hours oxidization are rather denser than that of C45 carbon steel, which can effectively improve the properties of the oxidation resistance of C45 carbon steel substrate.

Both the complex permittivity and permeability of nanometer SiC and nanometer SiC/CNTs composite were investigated by Hewlett-Packard 8510B Network Analyzer. The results show that the complex permittivity of nanometer SiC/CNTs composite is much higher than that of nanometer SiC. Reflection curves of nanometer SiC and nanometer SiC/CNTs composite calculated with electromagnetic wave transmission-line theory show that the addition of CNTs at 6 wt%, 12 wt% and 18 wt% in nanometer SiC absorber can improve its microwave absorption properties strongly. There is a relationship between the mass fraction of CNTs and microwave absorption ability. With increase of the mass fraction of CNTs, its microwave absorption ability firstly increased then decreased. From the simulation, it was found that nanometer SiC with 12 wt% CNTs gave the optimum microwave absorption. The corresponding frequency of maximum reflection loss value of nanometer SiC/CNTs composite gradually moves to the low frequency range with increase of thickness. The maximum reflection loss value of nanometer SiC/CNTs composite (CNTs content is 12 wt%) was -25.74dB at the corresponding frequency of 11.60 GHz with a bandwidth under -5 dB (68% absorption) is 7.16 GHz when the thickness is 2.0 mm.

Samples of AISI 1045 carbon steel were surface hardened by micro plasma transferred arc (PTA) process. The hardened layer was characterized using both light optical and scanning electron microscopy and microhardness techniques. The tribological properties of the surface hardened layer and untreated substrate were investigated using a block-on-ring tribometer sliding against GCr15 steel under unlubricated condition. The worn surface morphologies and dominant wear mechanisms were identified using microscopy techniques. Results show that the surface hardened layer consists mainly of martensite and retained austensite with fine and dense structure, the microhardness of hardened layer increases from approximately HV 200 to HV 600. The wear volume loss of plasma hardened layer was 81.86×10-11m3 much better than that of untreated AISI 1045 carbon steel (743.44×10-11m3). Wear of untreated AISI 1045 carbon steel occurred by combined mechanisms of adhesion, abrasion and plastic deformation. While the worn surface of surface hardened layer is quite better with slight track and thin oxides on the worn surfaces. Plasma surface hardening has essentially changed the wear mechanism of the AISI 1045 carbon steel to slight abrasion and oxidation wear.

Nonastructured Al2O3-13wt%TiO2 (AT13) coatings were deposited by multi-function micro-plasma spray and Metco 9M plasma spray, respectively. Constituent phases and the microstructure of the powder particles and coatings prepared were examined with the aid of scanning electronic microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Mechanical properties including hardness and bonding strength were also evaluated by microhardness tester and electron tensile tester. Multi-function micro plasma sprayed nanostructured AT13 Coating is fully-melted, dense and uniform. However, AT13 Coating deposited by Metco 9M plasma spray is partial-melted. The microhardness of multi-functional micro plasma sprayed AT13 Coating is HV975.7~1441.7, much higher than that of Metco 9M plasma sprayed AT13 Coating (HV655.3~946.6). The bonding strength results present the same, increased from 19.8 MPa to 42.7 MPa.

Al2O3 coatings were fabricated by multi-functional micro-plasma spray through axial powder feed. The flight particle velocity and temperature were measured by SprayWatch-2i. With the rising of Ar flow, the velocity of Al2O3 particles increases, but the temperature of particles decreases gradually. Al2O3 coatings were analyzed by SEM and XRD. The microstructure of coatings is density, low porosity and uniform morphology. X-ray diffraction results show that α-Al2O3 is the main phase in the original Al2O3 powders, but Al2O3 coatings consist of γ-Al2O3 and a small amount of α-Al2O3. The microhardness and bonding strength of Al2O3 coatings were also measured, which is HV0.11183~1387 and 28.6MPa, respectively.
