Methods: We surveyed 200 type 2 diabetic patients from two public hospitals using the Diabetes Distress Scale (DDS), Zung Self-rating Depression Scale, and Revised Treatment Adherence in Diabetes Questionnaire (RADQ). A multiple regression model was used to explore the relationship between diabetes distress, depression, and treatment adherence. Results: In the 200 eligible patients, the incidence of depression and diabetes distress was approximately 24% and 64%, respectively. The mean score on the RADQ was 23.0 ± 6.0. Multiple regression analysis showed that DDS scores (β = 5.34, P = 0.000), age (β = 0.15, P = 0.014), and family history (β = 3.2, P = 0.016) had a positive correlation with depression. DDS scores (β = −2.30, P = 0.000) and treatment methods (β = −0.93, P = 0.012) were risk factors for poor treatment adherence, whereas age (β = 0.089, P = 0.000) and cohabitation (β = 0.93, P = 0.012) increased treatment adherence. The independent-samples t-test showed that depression also affected treatment adherence (t = 2.53, P < 0.05). Conclusion: These findings suggest that the DDS is a predictor of depression and that diabetes distress plays a more important part than depression in treatment adherence. Screening for diabetes distress may be useful for primary prevention of psychologic problems; however, some form of specialized psychologic intervention should be incorporated to promote patient adherence with treatment. Purpose: Intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) considerably impacts global disability and quality of life. Although potential links between plasma proteins and IVDD exist, their causal correlation remains undefined. This study explored the causal links between plasma proteins and IVDD employing genome-wide association study data., Methods: For this observational study, summary statistics for plasma proteins were derived from an Icelandic population, paralleled with genome-wide data on IVDD obtained from the FinnGen consortium. Using two-sample Mendelian randomization, we assessed the causal relationship between 4,907 plasma proteins and IVDD. Standard sensitivity analyses encompassing heterogeneity, pleiotropy, and leave-one-out cross-validation tests confirmed the stability and robustness of the findings. Subsequently, through Gene Ontology (GO), Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment, and protein interaction analyses, we delved into the functional interrelation among identified plasma proteins., Results: A causal association with IVDD was identified for 47 plasma proteins; myoneurin, intersectin 1, and eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4 gamma 3 maintained significant correlations post multiple correction tests (P < 1.02 × 10 - 5 ), influencing IVDD development positively. GO/KEGG pathway analyses confirmed that multiple pathways may be involved in IVDD development., Conclusion: The study underscores the causal correlation between plasma protein levels and IVDD risk. These identified proteins could emerge as unique biomarkers for IVDD, contributing to its predictive measures. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic value of ultrasound for community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) in children., Methods: Clinical information of children diagnosed with CAP and a control group of healthy children was collected, and lung ultrasound detection was performed. The lung ultrasound score (LUS) was assessed, and venous blood samples were collected. Serum indexes, including white blood cell count, were analyzed using an automatic immunoassay analyzer, while serum procalcitonin (PCT) level was measured using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The pediatric critical illness score (PCIS) was also performed for all subjects., Results: White blood cell count, absolute neutrophil count, and respiratory index were significantly higher in the CAP group than those in the control group, while the oxygenation index was markedly lower. Ultrasound detection results showed that the CAP group exhibited significantly higher detection rates of pleural effusion, interstitial lung changes, lung consolidation, B-lines, air bronchogram signs, and reduced or absent lung sliding signs compared with the control group. In addition, the LUS and PCT levels were markedly higher in the CAP group, while the PCIS was notably lower. Further analysis exhibited that the LUS in the CAP group was significantly positively correlated with PCT levels and negatively correlated with PCIS. The receiver operating characteristic curve indicated that the area under the curve of LUS for diagnosing children with lung infection was 0.841., Conclusion: LUS is closely related to serum PCT level and PCIS. Background: The incidence of refractory Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (RMPP) in children is increasing, posing a serious threat to life safety. Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) has demonstrated the ability to modulate the immune system and has shown the potential to treat RMPP. This study evaluated the clinical efficacy and safety of azithromycin combined with IVIG in the treatment of RMPP in children through a meta-analysis., Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted in seven databases including PubMed and Cochrane Library, and the studies on the treatment of RMPP in children with azithromycin combined with IVIG were screened. After data extraction, meta-analysis and sensitivity analysis were performed to assess heterogeneity and stability., Results: Thirteen randomized controlled trials and two cohort studies were included, totaling 1,142 children. The results of meta-analysis showed a higher clinical efficacy rate (RR = 1.18, 95% CI: 1.11-1.25, P < 0.01) and shorter time to defervescence (MD = -2.12, 95% CI: -2.69--1.55), time to disappearance of pulmonary rales (MD = -2.90, 95% CI: -3.57--2.23), time to disappearance of cough (MD = -3.59, 95% CI: -4.51--2.67), and hospital length of stay (MD = -5.72, 95% CI: -8.80--2.64) in the experimental group receiving azithromycin combined with IVIG treatment compared to the control group treated with azithromycin alone. Background: Hexavalent chromium (Cr (VI)) is highly carcinogenic to humans. Ascorbic acid (AA) deficiency can be hazardous to health. And the dual-effect fluorescence detection of them is an important research topic. Carbon dots (CDs) based on cellulose are excellent candidates for the fluorescence probes due to their low cost and environmental friendliness. But most of them exhibit shortwave emission, small Stokes shift and poor fluorescence performance, all of which limit their use. Therefore, there is an urgent need for cellulose CDs with longer emission wavelengths and larger Stokes shifts in dual-effect fluorescence detection of Cr (VI) and AA., Results: Under optimal conditions (180 °C, 12 h), we prepared cellulose-based nitrogen-doped carbon dots (N-CDs) by a simple one-step hydrothermal process, which display longer emission wavelengths (ex: 370 nm, em: 510 nm), larger Stokes shifts (140 nm) and high fluorescence quantum yield (QY: 19.27 %). The continuous "turn-off" and "turn-off-on" fluorescence detection platforms were constructed based on the internal filtering effect (IFE) between Cr 6+ and N-CDs, and Cr 6+ reduced to Cr 3+ by AA at pH = 6. The platform has been successfully simultaneous detect Cr (VI) and AA with a wide range of 0.01-40 μM and 0.1-100 μM. And the lowest limits of detection (LOD) are 0.0303 μM and 0.072 μM, respectively. In the presence of some other metals, non-metal ions and water-soluble acids in the fruits, this fluorescent platform can demonstrate a high level of interference immunity., Significance and Novelty: This represents the first yellow-green cellulose-based N-CDs with large Stokes shift for dual-effect detection of Cr (VI) and AA in real water samples and fresh fruits. The fluorescence detection platform has the advantage of low volume detection. Less than 2 mL of sample is required for testing and results are available in <5 min. Introduction: Acute lung injury (ALI) as one kind of acute pulmonary inflammatory disorder, manifests primarily as damage to alveolar epithelial cells and microvascular endothelial cells. Activation of the complement system is a common pathological mechanism in ALI induced by diverse factors, with the complement alternative pathway assuming a pivotal role. Baicalin, a flavonoid derived from the root of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi, exhibits noteworthy biological activities. The present study attempted the interventional effects and underlying mechanisms of baicalin in microangiopathy in ALI induced by complement alternative pathway activation., Methods: Activation of the complement alternative pathway by cobra venom factor (CVF). HMEC cells were pretreated with baicalin and then exposed to complement activation products. The expression of inflammatory mediators was detected by ELISA, and the intranuclear transcriptional activity of NF-κB was assessed by a dual fluorescent kinase reporter gene assay kit. Before establishing the ALI mouse model, baicalin or PDTC was gavaged for 7 d. CVF was injected into the tail vein to establish the ALI model. The levels of inflammatory mediators in BALF and serum were determined by ELISA. HE staining and immunohistochemistry evaluated pathological changes, complement activation product deposition, and NF-κB p65 phosphorylation in lung tissue., Results: Baicalin reduced complement alternative activation product-induced expression of HMEC cells adhesion molecules (ICAM-1, VCAM-1, E-selectin) and cytokines (IL-6, TNF-α) as well as upregulation of NF-κB intranuclear transcriptional activity. Baicalin intervention reduced the number of inflammatory cells and protein content in the BALF and decreased the levels of IL-6, TNF-α, and ICAM-1 in serum and IL-6, TNF-α, ICAM-1, and P-selectin in BLAF. In addition, baicalin attenuated inflammatory cell infiltration in the lung of ALI mice and reduced the deposition of complement activation products (C5a, C5b-9) and phosphorylation of NF-κB p65 in lung tissue., Conclusion: Baicalin relieves complement alternative pathway activation-induced lung inflammation by inhibition of NF-κB pathway, delaying the progression of ALI., (© 2024. The accelerator-driven subcritical system (ADS) is a competitive option for next-generation nuclear energy systems. Production cross sections of long-lived residual radioactive nuclides in a proton-nuclide reaction are basic quantities for the calculation of accumulated radioactivity in the use of ADS systems. This work presents the production cross sections of 102m Rh and 108m Ag in a natural lead ( nat Pb) target activated by 400 MeV protons. The nat Pb target was irradiated by a 400 MeV proton beam in NRC "Kurchatov Institute" and measured two decades later by a low background gamma spectrometer in China Jinping Underground Laboratory (CJPL). A spectrum analysis method based on simulated single-isotope spectrum and Bayesian peak fitting was employed to compute the activities and production cross sections of the residual nuclides. The experimentally measured cross-sections for 102m Rh and 108m Ag were 0.72 ± 0.05 mb and 0.76 ± 0.09 mb respectively. These values are approximately twice as high as those predicted by the QGSP&#95;INCLXX&#95;HP model and fall within the range predicted by the INCL4+ABLA and LAQGSM+GEM2 models for mass numbers A=102 and A=108. Gel permeation chromatography coupled with light scattering (GPC-LS) is among the most common methods for determining the molar masses of polymers. GPC-LS is widely used in polymer science research and has been adopted for many industrial applications owing to its high sensitivity, accuracy, and precision. The determination of polymer molar masses using GPC-LS is an important experimental component of the "Polymer Physics Experiments" course. However, the present GPC-LS experimental teaching content tends to be overly simplistic and lacking in depth. Herein, the original experimental content is expanded and multiple sets of experiments are redesigned: (1) Using commercial polystyrene as an experimental sample, the molar mass, molar mass distribution, radius of gyration, and other molecular structure parameters are determined using GPC-LS; (2) Using two polyacrylonitriles with similar molecular structure parameters, subtle differences in the molar mass distributions of the samples are explored using differential mass distribution curves; (3) By comparing the chromatograms of a series of polyethylene glycols with different molar masses, the effect of molar mass on chromatographic peaks is investigated; and (4) For three different polymers (polyacrylonitrile, poly(methyl methacrylate), and poly( β -cyclodextrin)), the polymer chain conformations are analyzed using conformation plots (i.e., radius of gyration vs. molar mass). In addition, the experimental teaching method is modified to convert passive learning into active learning, thereby improving the students' self-directed learning ability. This experimental teaching reform will help students obtain a more comprehensive understanding of GPC-LS principles and applications, stimulate their enthusiasm for learning, and improve the teaching quality of the experimental course.

Background and Objectives: Surgery is widely performed for refractory epilepsy in patients with Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS), but reports on its effectiveness are limited. This study aimed to analyze seizure, motor, and cognitive outcomes of surgery in these patients and to identify factors associated with the outcomes., Methods: This was a multicenter retrospective observational study using data from patients with SWS and refractory epilepsy who underwent epilepsy surgery between 2000 and 2020 at 16 centers throughout China. Longitudinal postoperative seizures were classified by Engel class, and Engel class I was regarded as seizure-free outcome. Functional (motor and cognitive) outcomes were evaluated using the SWS neurologic score, and improved or unchanged scores between baseline and follow-up were considered to have stable outcomes. Outcomes were analyzed using Kaplan-Meier analyses. Multivariate Cox regression was used to identify factors associated with outcomes., Results: A total of 214 patients with a median age of 2.0 (interquartile range 1.2-4.6) years underwent surgery (focal resection, FR [n = 87]; hemisphere surgery, HS [n = 127]) and completed a median of 3.5 (1.7-5.0) years of follow-up. The overall estimated probability for being seizure-free postoperatively at 1, 2, and 5 years was 86.9% (95% CI 82.5-91.6), 81.4% (95% CI 76.1-87.1), and 70.7% (95% CI 63.3-79.0), respectively. The overall estimated probability of being motor stable at the same time post operatively was 65.4% (95% CI 58.4-71.2), 80.2% (95% CI 73.8-85.0), and 85.7% (95% CI 79.5-90.1), respectively. The overall probability for being cognition stable at 1, 2, and 5 years was 80.8% (95% CI 74.8-85.5), 85.1% (95% CI 79.3-89.2), and 89.5% (95% CI 83.8-93.2), respectively. Both FR and HS were effective at ensuring seizure control. For different HS techniques, modified hemispherotomy had comparable outcomes but improved safety compared with anatomical hemispherectomy. Regarding FR, partial resection (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR] 11.50, 95% CI 4.44-29.76), acute postoperative seizure (APOS, within 30 days of surgery; aHR 10.33, 95% CI 3.94-27.12), and generalized seizure (aHR 3.09, 95% CI 1.37-6.94) were associated with seizure persistence. For HS, seizure persistence was associated with APOS (aHR 27.61, 9.92-76.89), generalized seizure (aHR 7.95, 2.74-23.05), seizure frequency ≥30 times/month (aHR 4.76, 1.27-17.87), and surgical age ≥2 years (aHR 3.78, 1.51-9.47); motor stability was associated with severe motor defects (aHR 5.23, 2.27-12.05) and postoperative seizure-free status (aHR 3.09, 1.49-6.45); and cognition stability was associated with postoperative seizure-free status (aHR 2.84, 1.39-5.78) and surgical age <2 years (aHR 1.76, 1.13-2.75)., Discussion: FR is a valid option for refractory epilepsy in patients with SWS and has similar outcomes to those of HS, with less morbidity associated with refractory epilepsy. Early surgical treatment (under the age of 2 years) leads to better outcomes after HS, but there is insufficient evidence that surgical age affects FR outcomes. These findings warrant future prospective multicenter cohorts with international cooperation and prolonged follow-up in better exploring more precise outcomes and developing prognostic predictive models., Classification of Evidence: This study provides Class IV evidence that in children with SWS and refractory seizures, surgical resection-focal, hemispherectomy, or modified hemispherotomy-leads to improved outcomes.

Objective: Hepatolenticular degeneration (HLD) is an autosomal recessive disorder that manifests as multiorgan damage due to impaired copper (Cu) metabolism. Female patients with HLD often experience reproductive impairments. This study investigated the protective effect of berberine against ovarian damage in toxic-milk (TX) mice, a murine model for HLD., Methods: Mice were categorized into control group, HLD TX group (HLD group), penicillamine (Cu chelator)-treated TX group and berberine-treated TX group. Body weight, ovary weight and the number of ovulated eggs were recorded. Follicular morphology and cellular ultrastructure were examined. Total iron, ferrous iron (Fe 2+ ) and trivalent iron (Fe 3+ ) levels, as well as malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione (GSH) and oxidized glutathione (GSSG), were measured in the ovaries. Western blot analysis was used to analyze the expression of proteins related to ferroptosis and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress., Results: Ovarian tissue damage was evident in the HLD group, with a significant increase in ferroptosis and ER stress compared to the control group. This damage was inhibited by treatment with penicillamine, a Cu chelator. Compared with the HLD group, berberine increased the number of ovulations, and improved ovarian morphology and ultrastructure. Further, we found that berberine reduced total iron, Fe 2+ , MDA and GSSG levels, elevated GSH levels, decreased the expression of the ferroptosis marker protein prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase 2 (PTGS2), and increased glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) expression. Furthermore, berberine inhibited the expression of ER stress-associated proteins mediated by the protein kinase RNA-like ER kinase (PERK) pathway., Conclusion: Ferroptosis and ER stress are involved in Cu-induced ovarian damage in TX mice. Berberine ameliorates ovarian damage in HLD TX mice by inhibiting ferroptosis and ER stress. Background: Lifestyle factors play an important role in the development and management of childhood obesity and its related cardiometabolic complications., Objective/methods: We aimed to explore childhood obesity subtypes based on lifestyle factors and examine their association with cardiometabolic health. We included 1550 children with obesity from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Cluster analysis identified obesity subtypes based on four lifestyle factors (physical activity, diet quality, sedentary time and smoking). Multiple linear regression assessed their association with cardiometabolic factors., Results: Five subtypes of childhood obesity were identified: unhealthy subtype (n = 571; 36.8%), physically active subtype (n = 185; 21.1%), healthy diet subtype (n = 404; 26.1%), smoking subtype (n = 125; 8.1%) and non-sedentary subtype (n = 265; 17.1%). Compared with the unhealthy subtype, the physically active subtype had lower insulin and HOMA-IR levels, and smoking subtype was associated with lower HDL levels. When compared with children with normal weight, all obesity subtypes had worse cardiometabolic profile, except the physically active subtype who had similar DBP, HbA1c and TC levels; smoking subtype who had similar TC levels; and healthy diet and non-sedentary subtypes who had similar DBP levels., Conclusion: Children of different lifestyle-based obesity subtypes might have different cardiometabolic risks. This review is to provide botanical characteristics, traditional uses, phytochemistry, pharmacology, toxicity, and pharmaceutical preparations of the genus Ranunculus., Key Findings: The genus Ranunculus contains flavonoids, organic acids, coumarins, lactones, glycosides, sterols, polysaccharides, and trace elements. These chemical constituents complement the pharmacological actions and work together to exert anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antitubercular, antibacterial, antimalarial, etc. Those traditional Chinese medicine characteristics, like clearing away heat and detoxification, make this genus significant in ethnic medicine. The progress in research and the development of various pharmaceutical preparations made it appear in epidemiological and clinical studies., Summary: The genus Ranunculus has attracted the attention of experts and scholars in many fields due to its unique advantages. However, there are many species that are not scientifically investigated. The toxicity issues are also a huge concern. Fortunately, the toxicity can be overcome via special processes like drying or heating and by choosing a safe extraction solvent, such as water thus ensuring the safety of medication. Pharmaceutical preparations containing the plants from Ranunculus have gratifying clinical value, but they are not promoted sufficiently. N 6 -Methyladenosine (m 6 A) is a important process regulating gene expression post-transcriptionally. Programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) is a major immune inhibitive checkpoint that facilitates immune evasion and is expressed in tumor cells. In this research we discovered that Wilms' tumor 1-associated protein (WTAP) degradation caused by ubiquitin-mediated cleavage in cancer cells (colorectal cancer, CRC) under hypoxia was inhibited by Pumilio homolog 1 (PUM1) directly bound to WTAP. WTAP enhanced PD-L1 expression in a way that was m 6 A-dependent. m 6 A "reader," Insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA-binding protein 2 (IGF2BP2) identified methylated PD-L1 transcripts and subsequently fixed its mRNA. Additionally, we found that T-cell proliferation and its cancer cell-killing effects were prevented by overexpression of WTAP in vitro and in vivo. Overexpression prevented T cells from proliferating and killing CRC by maintaining the expression of PD-L1. Further evidence supporting the WTAP-PD-L1 regulatory axis was found in human CRC and organoid tissues. Tumors with high WTAP levels appeared more responsive to anti-PD1 immunotherapy, when analyzing samples from patients undergoing treatment. Overall, our findings demonstrated a novel PD-L1 regulatory mechanism by WTAP-induced mRNA epigenetic regulation and the possible application of targeting WTAP as immunotherapy for tumor hypoxia., (© 2024 The Authors. Xingkai Lake, located in Heilongjiang Province, is an important fishery and agricultural base and is seriously polluted by agricultural non-point sources. To clarify the residual status of many pesticides in the surface water of Xingkai Lake, 27 types of pesticides, herbicides, and their degradation products were analyzed in rice paddy, drainage, and surface water around Xingkai Lake (China) during the rice heading and maturity periods. The results showed that all 27 types of pesticides, herbicides, and their degradation products were detected during the rice heading period, and the total concentration ranged from 247.97 to 6 094.49 ng·L -1 . Additionally, 25 species were detected during the rice maturity period, and the total concentration ranged from 485.36 to 796.23 ng·L -1 . In comparison, more pesticides, herbicides, and derived degradation products were detected during the heading period, and their total concentration was higher as well. During the rice heading period, atrazine, simetryn, and paclobutrazol were the main detected pesticides, atrazine and isoprothiolane were the main pesticides detected during the maturity period. The distribution characteristics of pesticides and herbicides in the surface water around Xingkai Lake (China) was similar to that in drainage, so they were probably imported from the drainage and rice paddy. The average risk quotient (RQ) values of atrazine, simetryn, prometryn, butachlor, isoprothiolane, and oxadiazon were higher than 0.1 in drainage and Xingkai Lake (China), which showed a potential risk to aquatic organisms.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a major public health problem worldwide. When CKD patients progress to the stage of kidney failure, kidney replacement therapy (KRT) or conservative treatment (palliative or non-dialysis treatment) will be needed. The risk prediction models of chronic kidney failure have been developed in recent years. These models, focusing on demographic indicators, clinical indicators, and laboratory data, are used to predict the likelihood of progression to kidney failure and requiring KRT. This article will retrieve prediction models for chronic kidney failure as an outcome, demonstrate the current research progress, and hope that it may be helpful for the strategies of preventing chronic kidney failure.

Catalytic asymmetric 1,2-allylation of aurone-derived azadienes is very difficult to achieve due to the driving force for aromatization and the greater steric hindrance of 1,2-addition compared with 1,4-addition. By taking advantage of the ability of nitrogen ligated metal complexes, we successfully demonstrated the first example of copper-catalyzed 1,2-allylation of azadienes with allylboronates for the highly enantioselective synthesis of homoallylic amines. Meanwhile, the enantioenriched 1,4-addition products could also be obtained through a subsequent 3,3-sigmatropic rearrangement of the 1,2-addition products. Extensive DFT calculations were carried out to elucidate the origins of high regioselectivity (1,2- vs 1,4-) and enantioselectivity.

Background: Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is the most common malignant endocrine tumour, and its incidence and prevalence are increasing considerably. Cellular heterogeneity in the tumour microenvironment is important for PTC prognosis. Spatial transcriptomics is a powerful technique for cellular heterogeneity study., Methods: In conjunction with a clinical pathologist identification method, spatial transcriptomics was employed to characterise the spatial location and RNA profiles of PTC-associated cells within the tissue sections. The spatial RNA-clinical signature genes for each cell type were extracted and applied to outlining the distribution regions of specific cells on the entire section. The cellular heterogeneity of each cell type was further revealed by ContourPlot analysis, monocle analysis, trajectory analysis, ligand-receptor analysis and Gene Ontology enrichment analysis., Results: The spatial distribution region of tumour cells, typical and atypical follicular cells (FCs and AFCs) and immune cells were accurately and comprehensively identified in all five PTC tissue sections. AFCs were identified as a transitional state between FCs and tumour cells, exhibiting a higher resemblance to the latter. Three tumour foci were shared among all patients out of the 13 observed. Notably, tumour foci No. 2 displayed elevated expression levels of genes associated with lower relapse-free survival in PTC patients. We discovered key ligand-receptor interactions, including LAMB3-ITGA2, FN1-ITGA3 and FN1-SDC4, involved in the transition of PTC cells from FCs to AFCs and eventually to tumour cells. High expression of these patterns correlated with reduced relapse-free survival. In the tumour immune microenvironment, reduced interaction between myeloid-derived TGFB1 and TGFBR1 in tumour focus No. 2 contributed to tumourigenesis and increased heterogeneity. The spatial RNA-clinical analysis method developed here revealed prognosis-associated cellular heterogeneity in the PTC microenvironment., Conclusions: The occurrence of tumour foci No. 2 and three enhanced ligand-receptor interactions in the AFC area/tumour foci reduced the relapse-free survival of PTC patients, potentially leading to improved prognostic strategies and targeted therapies for PTC patients., (© 2024 The Authors. The copper-catalyzed enantioselective allylation reaction of N -aryl aldimines has been developed using a combination of Cu(OAc) 2 and SPINOL-based phosphonamidite. This protocol significantly broadens the substrate scope, such that imines bearing various ortho -substituents on the N -aryl were converted smoothly into homoallylic amines in up to 99% yield and 98% ee. Taking advantage of the diversity of the N -aryl motif, three kinds of N -heterocyclic compounds were constructed, respectively, from the corresponding homoallylic amines in merely one step.

Objectives: Although hemispheric surgeries are among the most effective procedures for drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE) in the pediatric population, there is a large variability in seizure outcomes at the group level. A recently developed HOPS score provides individualized estimation of likelihood of seizure freedom to complement clinical judgement. The objective of this study was to develop a freely accessible online calculator that accurately predicts the probability of seizure freedom for any patient at 1-, 2-, and 5-years post-hemispherectomy., Methods: Retrospective data of all pediatric patients with DRE and seizure outcome data from the original Hemispherectomy Outcome Prediction Scale (HOPS) study were included. The primary outcome of interest was time-to-seizure recurrence. A multivariate Cox proportional-hazards regression model was developed to predict the likelihood of post-hemispheric surgery seizure freedom at three time points (1-, 2- and 5- years) based on a combination of variables identified by clinical judgment and inferential statistics predictive of the primary outcome. The final model from this study was encoded in a publicly accessible online calculator on the International Network for Epilepsy Surgery and Treatment (iNEST) website (https://hops-calculator.com/)., Results: The selected variables for inclusion in the final model included the five original HOPS variables (age at seizure onset, etiologic substrate, seizure semiology, prior non-hemispheric resective surgery, and contralateral fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography [FDG-PET] hypometabolism) and three additional variables (age at surgery, history of infantile spasms, and magnetic resonance imaging [MRI] lesion). Predictors of shorter time-to-seizure recurrence included younger age at seizure onset, prior resective surgery, generalized seizure semiology, FDG-PET hypometabolism contralateral to the side of surgery, contralateral MRI lesion, non-lesional MRI, non-stroke etiologies, and a history of infantile spasms. Background: The diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella, has developed resistance to almost all insecticides used for its control. The 'push-pull' method has been shown as an effective control strategy to address this resistance challenge of P. xylostella. The key focus of the strategy is the identification of attractive or repellent volatile components. The aim of this study was to identify attractive volatile compounds released from host plants. Identified compounds were applied in the biological control of this pest., Results: Nine active compounds released into the headspace of seven cruciferous plant species were identified using gas chromatography-electroantennographic detection and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Electroantennographic detection-active compounds included five green leaf volatiles (hexanal, trans-2-hexen-1-ol, cis-3-hexen-1-ol, cis-3-hexenyl acetate, and 1-penten-3-ol), three isothiocyanates (isopropyl isothiocyanate, allyl isothiocyanate, and butyl isothiocyanate), and nonanal. Except for nonanal, all the identified green leaf volatiles and isothiocyanates elicited strong electrophysiological and behavioral responses in P. xylostella. The strongest attractive compounds, trans-2-hexen-1-ol and isopropyl isothiocyanate, were further evaluated in oviposition and field-trapping assays. Results showed that they both lured female moths to lay eggs, and were highly attractive to P. xylostella adults in field, especially when used in combination with yellow and green sticky boards. However, a blend of the two compounds showed no synergistic effect, but rather an antagonistic effect., Conclusions: Green leaf volatiles and isothiocyanates were identified as key olfactory cues for host selection of P. xylostella. A nickel-catalyzed three-component alkylarylation of alkenyl N -heteroarenes with α-bromocarboxylates and aryl boronic acids is reported. The protocol provides a new method to access a variety of N -heteroarene substituted diarylalkanes in moderate to good yields. It features mild reaction conditions, cheap nickel catalyst, readily available substrates, and broad substrate scope.

Purpose: The function of B cells in papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) is controversial. The role of B-cell-related tertiary lymphoid structures (TLSs) is still unclear. Whether B cells exert their anti-tumor effect through forming TLS in PTC needs further investigation., Methods: We detected the percentage of B cells in PTC tissues by multi-parameter flow cytometry. Paraffin-embedded tumor tissues of 125 PTC patients were collected and stained with Haematoxylin-Eosin (H&E) for inflammatory infiltration analysis in combination with clinical features. Multiplexed immunohistochemistry (mIHC) was performed to verify the TLSs in above inflammatory infiltration. Correlation of B cells and TLSs with prognosis was analyzed using the TCGA database., Results: We observed that PTC patients with higher expression of B lineage cell genes had improved survival and the percentage of B cells in the PTC tumor tissues was variable. Moreover, PTC tumor tissues with more B cells were surrounded by immune cell aggregates of varying sizes. We furtherly confirmed the immune cell aggregates as TLSs with different maturation stages. By analyzing PTC data from TCGA database, we found the maturation stages of TLSs were associated with genders and clinical stages among PTC patients. Moreover, patients with high TLSs survived longer and had a better prognosis., Conclusion: B cells are associated with the existence of TLSs which have different maturation stages in PTC. Both B cells and TLSs are associated with the survival rate of PTC. These observations indicate that the anti-tumor effects of B cells in PTC are associated with TLSs formation., (© 2023. Maintaining redox homeostasis is an essential feature of cancer cells, and disrupting this homeostasis to cause oxidative stress and induce cell death is an important strategy in cancer therapy. M 4 IDP, a zoledronic acid derivative, can cause the death of human colorectal cancer cells by increasing the level of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS). However, its potential molecular mechanism is unclear. Our in vitro studies showed that treatment with M 4 IDP promoted oxidative stress in HCT116 cells, as measured by the decreased ratios of GSH/GSSG and NADPH/NADP + and increased level of MDA. M 4 IDP could cause the decrease of GSH content, the increase of GSSG content, the decrease of NADPH content and pentose phosphate pathway flux, the downregulation of G6PD expression, the upregulation of unprenylated Rap1A and total expression of RhoA and CDC42. The increase of ROS and cytotoxicity induced by M 4 IDP could be reversed by the supplementation of NADPH, the overexpression of G6PD and the supplementation of GGOH. In vivo studies showed that M 4 IDP inhibited tumor growth in the human colorectal cancer xenograft mouse model, which was accompanied with a decreased [ 18 F]FDG uptake. Collectively, these results provide evidence that M 4 IDP can promote oxidation in colon cancer cells by inhibiting mevalonate pathway and pentose phosphate pathway and produce therapeutic effect. This study revealed for the first time a possible mechanism of bisphosphonate-induced increase of ROS in malignant tumor cells. &quot;Tangjie&quot; leaves of cultivated Qinan agarwood were used to obtain the complete chloroplast genome using high-throughput sequencing technology. Combined with 12 chloroplast genomes of Aquilaria species downloaded from NCBI, bioinformatics method was employed to determine the chloroplast genome characteristics and phylogenetic relationships. The results showed that the chloroplast genome sequence length of cultivated Qinan agarwood &quot;Tangjie&quot; leaves was 174 909 bp with a GC content of 36.7%. A total of 136 genes were annotated, including 90 protein-coding genes, 38 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. Sequence repeat analysis detected 80 simple sequence repeats(SSRs) and 124 long sequence repeats, with most SSRs composed of A and T bases. Codon preference analysis revealed that AUU was the most frequently used codon, and codons with A and U endings were preferred. Comparative analysis of Aquilaria chloroplast genomes showed relative conservation of the IR region boundaries and identified five highly variable regions: trnD-trnY, trnT-trnL, trnF-ndhJ, petA-cemA, and rpl32, which could serve as potential DNA barcodes specific to the Aquilaria genus. Selection pressure analysis indicated positive selection in the rbcL, rps11, and rpl32 genes. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that cultivated Qinan agarwood &quot;Tangjie&quot; and Aquilaria agallocha clustered together(100% support), supporting the Chinese origin of Qinan agarwood from Aquilaria agallocha. The chloroplast genome data obtained in this study provide a foundation for studying the genetic diversity of cultivated Qinan agarwood and molecular identification of the Aquilaria genus.

Many studies have shown that γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) exhibits various beneficial biological activities, including gut-modulating, neuro-stimulating, and cardio-protecting activities. Naturally, GABA exists in small amounts in yam, which is primarily synthesized by the decarboxylation of L-glutamic acid in the presence of glutamate decarboxylase. Dioscorin, the major tuber storage protein of yam, has been shown to have good solubility and emulsifying activity. However, how GABA interacts with dioscorin and affects their properties has yet to be clarified. In this research, the physicochemical and emulsifying properties of GABA-fortified dioscorin, which was dried by spray drying and freeze drying, were studied. As results, the freeze-dried (FD) dioscorin produced more stable emulsions, while the spray-dried (SD) dioscorin adsorbed more rapidly to oil/water (O/W) interface. The fluorescence spectroscopy, ultraviolet spectroscopy and circular dichroism spectroscopy showed that GABA changed the structure of dioscorin, by exposing its hydrophobic groups. The addition of GABA significantly promoted the adsorption of dioscorin to the O/W interface and prevented droplets coalescence. To fully exploit the economic value of the Chinese endemic species Pteroceltis tatarinowii and provide new resources for forage production, the forage nutritional value of P. tatarinowii leaves from different populations was analyzed and evaluated. The results were as follows: 1) There were significant differences in the forage nutrient indices of leaves from different populations. The crude protein content was 10.77%-18.65%, with an average of 14.58%, and the SDJN population had the highest crude protein content. The average crude fat, crude fiber content was 7.62%; the average neutral detergent fiber content was 25.33%; and the average acid detergent fiber contents were 6.79%, 7.62%, 25.33%, and 17.52%, respectively. The average phosphorus and calcium content in the leaves was 0.785 g·kg -1 and 58.01 g·kg -1 , respectively. The tannin content was much lower than the antifeedant standard, at an average of 4.97 g·kg -1 . The average total amounts of hydrolyzed and free amino acids in the leaves were 108.20 mg·g -1 and 47.87 mg·g -1 , respectively. Thus, P. tatarinowii leaves have high crude protein, crude fat, and calcium contents, and low fiber, tannin contents, and are protein-rich. These results provide evidence that this species can be developed into an excellent woody forage tree. 2) There were significant differences in the forage quality evaluation indices among the populations. The forage indices of NDP, ADP, DMI, DDM, and RFV of 21 populations all met the super standard of the American Grass and Grassland Association (AFGC) for hay, two crude protein indices met the grade 1 standard, and 12 crude protein indices met the grade 2 standard. Four high-protein and high-RFV forage populations (SDJN, SDZZ, SXLQ, and AHXX) were selected. 3) The results of the correlation analysis showed that there was no significant correlation between the forage characteristics of P. tatarinowii leaves and latitude and longitude, indicating no significant geographical variation. However, the forage characteristics were strongly correlated with elevation, average annual temperature, and annual precipitation. Thus, high elevation, low temperatures, and rainy weather can improve the forage value of the leaves. P. tatarinowii can be planted to provide leaf forage in cold and wet areas at a specific elevation. Moreover, the forage value of P. tatarinowii leaves can be further improved by increasing nitrogen fertilizer and reducing K and Ca fertilizers during cultivation. 4) Cluster analysis revealed obvious regionalism. During the laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass procedure, closing mesentery or not was still controversial according to preexisted studies. So, the current meta-analysis aimed to compare the outcome of closure versus non-closure of mesenteric defects in laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. Fifteen studies were included, enrolling 53,488 patients. Based on the outcome of analysis, regarding internal hernia, Petersen space's IH, jejunal mesenteric's IH, hospital days, and reoperation, closure of the mesentery was better than non-closure. Besides, small bowel obstruction, anastomosis ulcer, stenosis, leakage, bleeding, gastrointestinal perforation, and postoperative BMI of patients show no difference between non-closure and closure., (© 2023. This study focused on the effects of freeze drying (FD) and sprays drying (SD) on the structure and emulsifying properties of yam soluble protein (YSP). The results showed that the surface hydrophobicity (Ho) value, free sulfhydryl group (SH) content, turns content, denaturation temperature and enthalpy value of spray-dried YSP (SD-YSP) were higher than freeze-dried YSP (FD-YSP), but the apparent hydrodynamic diameter (Dh) value of SD-YSP was smaller. The smaller Dh, higher Ho and free SH led to higher percentage of adsorbed proteins and stronger binding between protein and oil droplet in emulsions. Thus, the emulsifying properties of SD-YSP were better, and the SD-YSP-stabilized emulsion had better dynamical rheological properties. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations suggested that some intramolecular disulfide bonds and hydrogen bonds of dioscorin were broken, and some helices transformed into turns during the SD process. A Lewis acid Sc(OTf) 3 -catalyzed annulation reaction of vinyl diazoacetates with in situ formed α,β-unsaturated imines for the preparation of indole-fused tricyclic rings has been reported. This strategy involves a sequential addition/rebound addition process of vinyl diazoacetates and an in situ dedinitrogenation. This annulation protocol features low-cost catalysts, mild reaction conditions, and facilely prepared substrates.

Objective: To understand the compliancy to on-demand HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and related factors in men who have sex with men (MSM) accessing to PrEP service through an Internet platform. Methods: A cross-sectional study method was used to recruit survey respondents through the Heer Health platform from July 6 to August 30, 2022, and a questionnaire survey on the current status of medication use was conducted in MSM who use PrEP through the platform and take medication on demand. The MSM's information collected in the survey mainly included socio-demographic characteristics, behavioral characteristics, risk perception characteristics, PrEP awareness and the status of dose taking. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to evaluate factors related with compliancy to PrEP. Results: A total of 330 MSM who met the recruitment criteria were included during the survey period, with a valid response rate of 96.7% (319/330) to the questionnaire survey. The age of the 319 MSM was (32.5±7.3) years. Most of them had education level of junior college or college and above (94.7%, 302/319), most of them were unmarried (90.3%, 288/319), most of them had full-time works (95.9%, 306/319), and 40.8% of them had average monthly income ≥10 000 yuan (130/319). The proportion of the MSM with good compliancy to PrEP was 86.5% (276/319). The results of univariate and multivariate logistic analyses showed that the MSM with good awareness of PrEP had relatively better compliancy to PrEP compared with those with poor awareness of PrEP (a OR =2.43, 95% CI :1.11-5.32). Conclusions: The compliancy to on-demand PrEP was good in MSM who accessed to the services through Internet platform, but there is still a need to strengthen PrEP promotion in MSM for the further improvement of PrEP compliancy and reduction of the risk for HIV infection in this population.

An unprecedented cycloaddition of vinyl diazo compounds with benzofuran-derived azadienes catalyzed by rarely independently used NaBAr F 4 has been established. Benzofuran-fused hydropyridines were constructed with excellent yields and high diastereoselectivity via a Na + -catalyzed inverse-electron-demand aza-Diels-Alder reaction. Notably, this transformation also features good compatibility with a one-pot protocol to deliver the spiro[benzofuran-cyclopentene] skeleton, as well as perfect atom economy and simple reaction conditions.

Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer and the fourth most common cause of cancer-related death worldwide. Advanced stage CRC, during the recent past, had a dismal prognosis and only a few available treatments. Pumilio homologous protein 1 (PUM1) is reportedly aberrant in human malignancies, including CRC. However, the role of PUM1 in the regulation of tumor-initiating cells (T-ICs) remains unknown., Methods: The levels of messenger RNAs (mRNAs) were determined by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and immunoblot analyses. Statistical analyses were performed to determine the associations between the levels of PUM1 and tumor features and patient outcomes. Whether PUM1 is a downstream target of miR-218-5p was verified by bioinformatics target gene prediction and qRT-PCR., Results: Herein, it was found that T-ICs, chemoresistance, and recurrent CRC samples all manifest increased PUM1 expression. Functional investigations have shown that PUM1 increased the self-renewal, tumorigenicity, malignant proliferation, and chemoresistance of colorectal cells. PUM1 activates the phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (AKT) signaling pathway biochemically. Furthermore, it was discovered that miR-218-5p specifically targets T-ICs' PUM1 3'-untranslated region (3'-UTR). More importantly, the PUM1/PI3K/AKT axis regulates CRC cells' responses to treatment with cetuximab, and PUM1 overexpression increased cetuximab resistance. Cadmium (Cd) is a well-characterized bone toxic agent and can induce bone damage via inhibiting osteogenic differentiation. Bone morphogenetic protein (BMP)/SMAD signaling pathway can mediate osteogenic differentiation, but the association between Cd and BMP/SMAD signaling pathway is yet to be illuminated. To understand what elements of BMPs and SMADs are affected by Cd to influence osteogenic differentiation and if BMPs can be the biomarkers of which Cd-induced osteoporosis, human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (hBMSCs) were treated with cadmium chloride (CdCl2) in vitro to detect the expression of BMPs and SMADs, and 134 subjects were enrolled to explore if the BMPs can be potential biomarkers of Cd-associated bone damage. Our results showed that Cd exposure significantly promoted the adipogenic differentiation of hBMSCs and inhibited its osteogenic differentiation by inhibiting the expression of BMP-2/4, SMAD4, and p-SMAD1/5/9 complex. And mediation analyses yielded that BMP-4 mediated 39.32% (95% confidence interval 7.47, 85.00) of the total association between the Cd and the risk of Cd-associated bone damage. Moreover, during differentiation, BMP-4 had the potential to enhance mineralization compared with CdCl2 only group. Introduction: Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) is the standard and curative treatment strategy for patients with hematologic malignancies. Recently, decitabine-included regimens have been investigated by several studies including ours, which may prevent relapse of primary malignant diseases., Methods: This study was to retrospectively evaluate a 7-day decitabine-included regimen with reduced dose of idarubicin for patients with hematologic malignancies who underwent allo-HSCT., Results: A total of 84 patients were enrolled, including 24 cases in 7-day and 60 cases in 5-day decitabine groups, respectively. Patients conditioned with 7-day decitabine regimen showed accelerated neutrophil (12.05 ± 1.97 vs. 13.86 ± 3.15; u = 9.309, p &lt; 0.001) and platelet (16.32 ± 6.27 vs. 21.37 ± 8.57; u = 8.887, p &lt; 0.001) engraftment compared with those treated with 5-day decitabine regimen. Patients in the 7-day decitabine group showed a significantly lower incidence rate of total (50.00% [12/24] versus 78.33% [47/60]; χ2 = 6.583, p = 0.010) and grade III or above (4.17% [1/24] vs. 31.67% [19/60]; χ2 = 7.147, p = 0.008) oral mucositis compared to those in the 5-day decitabine group. However, the occurrence of other major complications post-allo-HSCT and outcomes of patients in these two groups were comparable., Conclusion: These results demonstrate that this 7-day decitabine-contained new conditioning regimen seems to be feasible and safe for patients with myeloid neoplasms who receive allo-HSCT, and a large-scale prospective study is needed to confirm the findings of this study., (© 2023 S. In 2012, the World Health Organization (WHO) released tenofovir/emtricitabine (TDF/FTC) as pre-exposure prophylaxis drug to help people at risk of HIV infection in specific populations, and various clinical trials and real-world data have confirmed the effectiveness of TDF/FTC in preventing HIV infection. In 2019, propofol tenofovir combined with emtricitabine (TAF/FTC) was approved in the United States as the second oral drug for pre-exposure prophylaxis(PrEP). However, for people who cannot take the drug or have poor adherence to the drug, second-generation PrEP, or long-acting antiretrovirals, provide more options. This artical reviewed the research progress of the first generation of oral PrEP and the new PrEP developed in recent years to provide reference for the promotion of HIV PrEP in China.

Background: Acteoside, a water-soluble active constituent of diverse valuable medicinal vegetation, has shown strong anti-inflammatory property. However, studies on the anti-inflammatory property of acteoside in complement-induced acute lung injury (ALI) are limited. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the anti-inflammatory activity of acteoside in cobra venom factor (CVF)-stimulated human microvascular endothelial cells (HMEC) and in ALI mice model., Methods: In this study, we investigated the effects of acteoside (20, 10, and 5 μg/mL) in vitro in CVF induced HMECs and the activity of acteoside (100, 50, and 20 mg/kg/day bodyweight) in vivo in CVF induced ALI mice. Each eight male mice were orally administered acteoside or the positive drug PDTC (100 mg/kg/day) for 7 days before CVF (35 μg/kg) injection. After injection for 1 h, the pharmacological effects of acteoside were investigated by spectrophotometry, pathological examination, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and immunohistochemistry., Results: In vitro , acteoside (20, 10, and 5 μg/mL) reduced the protein expression of adhesion molecules and pro-inflammatory cytokines and transcriptional activity of NF-κB ( P < 0.01). In vivo studies showed that acteoside dose-dependently alleviated lung histopathologic lesion, inhibited the production of the protein content of BALF, leukocyte cell number, lung MPO activity, and expression levels of IL-6, TNF-α, and ICAM-1, and suppressed the C5b-9 deposition and NF-κB activation in CVF-induced acute lung inflammation in mice ( P < 0.05, 0.01)., Conclusion: This study demonstrates that acteoside exerts strong anti-inflammatory activities in the CVF-induced acute lung inflammation model and suggests that acteoside is a potential therapeutic agent for complement-related inflammatory diseases., Competing Interests: The authors declare no conflict of interest., (© 2022 The Author(s).)

Background: Thyroid tissue has a special immune microenvironment that is not well characterized. Whether immune cells have a prognostic value in the recurrence of papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) needs further investigation., Methods: Multinodular non-toxic goiter (MNG) was taken as normal tissue for the difficulty in obtaining completely normal thyroid tissue (normal thyroid function, no thyroiditis, and no nodules). We compared the composition of mononuclear cells (MNCs) in peripheral blood and thyroid tissues from MNG and PTC patients by high-dimensional flow cytometry profiling and verified the results by multiplex immunohistochemistry. The recurrence rates of PTC patients with different CD8 + T cell subset signatures were compared using TCGA database., Results: We observed that the immune cell composition of MNG was different from that in peripheral blood. Thyroid tissue contains higher percentages of T cells and NK cells. Moreover, the percentages of memory T cells and Treg cells were higher in thyroid than in peripheral blood and increased in PTC tumors. We further focused on the antitumoral CD8 + T cells and found that the expression patterns of PD-1, CD39, and CD103 on CD8 + T cells were different between MNG and PTC. Importantly, we found higher percentages of PD-1 + CD39 + CD103 + CD8 + T and PD-1 + CD39 + CD103 - CD8 + T cells in PTC tumor tissues from recurrent patients than non-recurrent patients. By analyzing PTC data from TCGA database, we found that the expression patterns of these molecules were associated with different pathologic types and genders among PTC patients. Moreover, patients with PD-1 hi CD39 lo CD103 hi CD8 hi , PD-1 hi CD39 hi CD103 lo CD8 hi , and PD-1 lo CD39 hi CD103 hi CD8 hi expression patterns have a higher 10-year recurrence-free survival., Conclusion: The immune microenvironment in MNG tissue is distinct from that in peripheral blood and paratumor tissue. More memory CD8 + T cells were detected in PTC, and expression patterns of PD-1, CD39, and CD103 on CD8 + T cells were significantly different in physiology and gender and associated with the recurrence rate of PTC. Background: Strawberries are an important economic fruit crop world-wide. In strawberry cultivation, continuous cropping (CC) can seriously threaten yield and quality. However, our understanding of the gene expression changes in response to CC and during subsequent defense processes is limited. In this study, we analyzed the impact of CC on the transcriptome of strawberry roots using RNA-Seq technology to elucidate the effect of CC and the subsequent molecular changes., Results: We found that CC significantly affects the growth of strawberry plants. The transcriptome analysis identified 136 differentially expressed genes (DEGs), including 49 up-regulated and 87 down-regulated DEGs. A Gene Ontology (GO) analysis indicated that the up-regulated DEGs were mainly assigned to defense-related GO terms, and most down-regulated DEGs were assigned to nutrient-related GO terms. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analysis revealed that the responsive DEGs were classified in a large number of important biological pathways, such as phenylalanine metabolism, starch and sucrose metabolism, phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, glutathione metabolism and plant-pathogen interaction. We also found that four WRKY transcription factors and three peroxidase genes involved in plant defense pathways were up-regulated in the roots of strawberry plants subjected to CC., Conclusion: Several unigenes involved in plant defense processes, such as CNGCs, WRKY transcription factors, PR1, and peroxidase genes with highly variable expression levels between non-CC and CC treatments may be involved in the regulation of CC in strawberry. These results indicate that strawberry roots reallocate development resources to defense mechanisms in response to CC. Herein, we report the Pd(0)-catalyzed intermolecular asymmetric dearomative [3 + 2] annulation of phenols with vinyl cyclopropanes via in situ generated ortho -quinone methide intermediates. A series of highly functionalized spiro-[5,6] bicycles which bear three contiguous stereogenic centers including one all-carbon quaternary were obtained with excellent stereoselectivities. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations indicate that the reactions were controlled by thermodynamics.
