It also aims to evaluate the usefulness of color Doppler flow imaging (CDFI), an ultrasound technique for detecting blood flow in skin lesions, in assessing clinical efficacy.Methods: Thirty-three patients with PWS underwent HMME-PDT at our dermatology outpatient clinic between January 2019 and March 2020. Data on patient demographics, lesion location, lesion type (pink, purple, nodular thickening), treatment frequency, and pre- and post-treatment images were collected and retrospectively analyzed. CDFI was performed on three patients.Results: All patients received intravenous HMME and underwent irradiation with 532 nm green LED light. Of these, 5 patients received 1 session of HMME-PDT, 14 received 2 sessions, 9 received 3 sessions and the remaining 5 patients received more than 3 sessions. Of the 33 patients, 9 were cured (27.27%), 10 showed improvement (30.30%), 11 experienced a reduction in symptoms (33.33%), and 3 showed no significant improvement (9.09%). Most patients reported local pain and oedema, and no systemic adverse effects were observed. Clinical efficacy correlated with lesion type and total number of treatment sessions. CDFI appears to be an excellent technique for assessing clinical efficacy.Conclusion: HMME-PDT is a safe and effective method for the treatment of PWS. CDFI examination appears to be a promising assessment tool. NGTS was administered for 24 weeks to achieve target BP of 140/90 mmHg. The dose could be uptitrated to 60 mg/d in case of unsatisfactory BP reduction after 4-week treatment. Home blood pressure measurement was recorded through the initial 1–14 days, and office BP and heart rate were evaluated at 2, 4, 8, 12, and 24 weeks.Results: One hundred and seventeen patients (84.8%) completed the study, and their average BP decreased by 19.0/11.3 mmHg after 24 weeks. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most frequent and deadliest cancers worldwide. Liver transplantation, surgical resection or local ablation offer the best survival advantages but most patients either present when the tumor is in an advanced stage or the degree of underlying liver disease precludes these options. Several therapies have been proposed for these patients with proven survival benefits. These therapies comprise the locoregional treatment for HCC, and include percutaneous ethanol injection (PEI), radiofrequency ablation (RFA), transarterial chemoembolization (TACE), transarterial radioembolization (TARE), and drug-eluting bead (DEB). PEI and RFA are considered curative treatments for early stage HCC; whereas TACE is a standard of care for intermediate stages. Additionally, evaluation of response to locoregional treatment in HCC is important, as objective response may become a surrogate marker for improved survival. Currently, there are several criteria for response assessment, including the World Health Organization (WHO), the Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST), the European Association for the Study of the Liver Criteria (EASL), and the modified RECIST (mRECIST); however, there has been poor correlation between the clinical benefit provided by locoregional interventional therapies and conventional methods of response assessment. The aim of our study was to review and analyze the current evidence for radiological interventions in HCC, and to propose evidence based recommendations to improve the management of these patients. Purpose: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of two different methods of proximal cystic artery embolization in patients undergoing yttrium-90 radioembolization.Materials and Methods: Forty-six patients had cystic artery embolization performed immediately before yttrium-90 radioembolization, either by using Gelfoam pledgets (n = 35) or coils (n = 11). Clinical symptomatology during the admission and angiographic findings at 1-month follow-up were retrospectively reviewed. Rates of collateralization or recanalization of the cystic artery were compared, as well as the frequency of postprocedural abdominal pain and need for cholecystectomy.Results: Technical success was achieved in all patients, and there were no procedural complications related to cystic artery embolization. Of the 11 coil-embolized patients, 5 (45%) demonstrated collateralization of the cystic artery at 1 month, and 1 (9%) demonstrated recanalization of the cystic artery. Of the 35 Gelfoam-embolized cases, 2 (6%) had collateralized at 1 month, and 14 (40%) had recanalized. Two patients (one from each group) had self-limited right upper quadrant pain after the procedure, and one patient in the coil embolization group required cholecystectomy.Conclusion: Proximal cystic artery embolization is safe and feasible and may be performed during liver-directed embolotherapy to minimize the exposure of the gallbladder to particulate, chemoembolic, or radioembolic agents. Pneumatosis intestinalis (gas in the bowel wall) is often a benign condition, but it may mimic bowel ischemia or infarction and lead to unnecessary surgical intervention, especially when associated with pneumoperitoneum. Surgical site infection (SSI) following lumbar disc herniation (LDH) surgery leads to prolonged hospital stays, increased costs and reoperations. Therefore, we aim to develop and validate a nomogram to predict the risk of SSI following LDH surgery, thereby helping spine surgeons design personalized prevention strategies and promote early recovery. Data from 647 patients with SSI who underwent LDH surgery at the First Affiliated Hospital of Air Force Medical University (AFMU) from 2020 to 2023 were collected. Ultimately, 241 patients with SSI were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Patients were randomly divided into training and validation sets with a ratio of 7:3. LASSO regression, univariate, and multivariate logistic regression were utilized to identify target variables and establish the prediction model, which was subsequently validated. Six factors-Age, Body Mass Index (BMI), Postoperative Suction Drainage (PSD), Gelatin Sponge (GS), None-Preoperative Antibiotic (NPTA), and Thrombin Time (TT)-were selected to construct the nomogram model. In the training set, the area under the curve (AUC) for the nomogram was 0.818 (95% CI 0.779-0.857). In the validation set, the AUC was 0.782 (95% CI 0.717-0.846). Calibration curves for both sets showed satisfactory agreement between predicted and actual SSI probabilities. Decision curve analysis indicated that the nomogram is clinically useful with a threshold range of 1-90%. The Clinical Impact Curve (CIC) demonstrated an acceptable cost-benefit ratio. Background: Unplanned reoperation post-spinal surgery (URPS) leads to prolonged hospital stays, higher costs, decreased patient satisfaction, and adversely affects postoperative rehabilitation. This study aimed to develop and validate prediction models (nomograms) for early URPS risk factors using machine learning (ML) methods, aiding spine surgeons in designing prevention strategies, promoting early recovery, reducing complications and improving patient satisfaction., Methods: Medical records of 639 patients who underwent reoperation post-spinal surgery (RPS) from the First Affiliated Hospital of Air Force Medical University (2018 - 2022) were collected, including baseline indicators, perioperative indicators, and laboratory indicators. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, 122 URPS and 155 non-URPS patients were identified and randomly divided into training (82 URPS, 111 non-URPS) and validation (40 URPS, 44 non-URPS) cohorts. Three ML methods (LASSO regression, Random Forest, and SVM-RFE) were used to select feature variables, and their intersection was used to develop the prediction model, tested on the validation cohort., Results: Six factors-implant, postoperative suction drainage (PSD), gelatin sponge (GS), anticoagulants (ATG), antibiotics (ATB), and disease type (DT)-were identified to construct a nomogram diagnostic model. The area under the curve (AUC) of this nomogram was 0.829 (95% CI 0.771-0.886) in the training cohort and 0.854 (95% CI 0.775-0.933) in the validation cohort. Calibration curves demonstrated satisfactory agreement between predictions and actual probabilities. Minimally invasive interventional radiology procedures play an adjunctive role in treating the symptoms of osteoarthritis (OA) with the hopes of delaying total knee arthroplasty (TKA). However, currently available intra-articular injections offer only short-term benefits. Gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GISTs) are mesenchymal tumours that originate from the interstitial cells of Cajal. GISTs are mainly driven by gain-of-function mutations in receptor tyrosine kinase or platelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha. Surgical resection is the only curative treatment for localized tumours and all currently approved medical GIST treatments are based on orally available tyrosine kinase inhibitors. Recent discoveries in the molecular and clinical features of GISTs have greatly impacted GIST management. Due to the provincially rather than nationally administered Canadian healthcare system, there have been inconsistencies in the treatment of GISTs across the country. Therefore, guidance on the latest knowledge, clinical management and treatment of GIST is needed to standardize the approach to GIST management nationwide. To establish pan-Canadian guidance, provide up-to-date data and harmonize the clinical practice of GIST management in high- and low-throughput centres across Canada; a panel of 20 physicians with extensive clinical experience in GIST management reviewed relevant literature. This included radiologists, pathologists, interventional radiologists, surgeons and medical oncologists across Canada. The structured literature focused on seven key domains: molecular profiling, radiological techniques/reporting, targeted localized therapy, intricacies of systemic treatments, emerging tests, multidisciplinary care and patient advocacy. This literature review, along with clinical expertise and opinion, was used to develop this concise and clinically relevant consensus paper to harmonize the knowledge and clinical practice on GIST management across Canada. Based on phylogenetic analysis, Candolleomyces (Psathyrellaceae, Agaricales) was established with Psathyrella candolleana as the type species. The basidiomes range from small to large and are typically terrestrial, lignicolous, and rarely fimicolous. We analysed the Candolleomyces species collected during five years in China, and based on morphological and molecular data (nrITS, nrLSU, and tef-1α ), we propose seven new Candolleomyces species viz. C. brevisporus , C. gyirongicus , C. lignicola , C. luridus , C. shennongdingicus , C. shennongjianus , and C. sichuanicus . Full descriptions, colour photographs, illustrations, phylogenetic analyses results, and comparisons with related Candolleomyces species of the new taxa are provided. This study enriches the species diversity of Candolleomyces in China.

Objectives: To investigate the effect of the expression of low-density lipoprotein receptor associated protein (LDLR) on the vascular abnormalities in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and its mechanisms. Methods: Based on the information of Oncomine Cancer GeneChip database, we analyzed the correlation between the expression level of LDLR and the expression level of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and CD31 in hepatocellular carcinoma tissues. Lentiviral transfection of short hairpin RNA target genes was used to construct LDLR-knockdown MHCC-97H and HLE hepatocellular carcinoma cells. The differential genes and their expression level changes in LDLR-knockdown hepatocellular carcinoma cells were detected by transcriptome sequencing, real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction, and protein immunoblotting. The gene-related signaling pathways that involve LDLR were clarified by enrichment analysis. The effect of LDLR on CEA was assessed by the detection of CEA content in conditioned medium of hepatocellular carcinoma cells. Angiogenesis assay was used to detect the effect of LDLR on the angiogenic capacity of human umbilical vein endothelial cells, as well as the role of CEA in the regulation of angiogenesis by LDLR. Immunohistochemical staining was used to detect the expression levels of LDLR in 176 hepatocellular carcinoma tissues, and CEA and CD31 in 146 hepatocellular carcinoma tissues, and analyze the correlations between the expression levels of LDLR, CEA, and CD31 in the tissues, serum CEA, and alanine transaminase (ALT). Results: Oncomine database analysis showed that the expressions of LDLR and CEA in the tissues of hepatocellular carcinoma patients with portal vein metastasis were negatively correlated ( r =-0.64, P =0.001), whereas the expressions of CEA and CD31 in these tissues were positively correlated ( r =0.46, P =0.010). The transcriptome sequencing results showed that there were a total of 1 032 differentially expressed genes in the LDLR-knockdown group and the control group of MHCC-97H cells, of which 517 genes were up-regulated and 515 genes were down-regulated. The transcript expression level of CEACAM5 was significantly up-regulated in the cells of the LDLR-knockdown group. The Gene Ontology (GO) function enrichment analysis showed that the differential genes were most obviously enriched in the angiogenesis function. The Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) signaling pathway enrichment analysis showed that the relevant pathways involved mainly included the cellular adhesion patch, the extracellular matrix receptor interactions, and the interactions with the extracellular matrix receptors. The CEA content in the conditioned medium of the LDLR-knockdown group was 43.75±8.43, which was higher than that of the control group (1.15±0.14, P ＜0.001). The results of angiogenesis experiments showed that at 5 h, the number of main junctions, the number of main segments, and the total area of the lattice formed by HUVEC cells cultured with the conditioned medium of MHCC-97H cells in the LDLR-knockdown group were 295.3±26.4, 552.5±63.8, and 2 239 781.0±13 8211.9 square pixels, which were higher than those of the control group (113.3±23.5, 194.8±36.5, and 660 621.0±280 328.3 square pixels, respectively, all P ＜0.01).The number of vascular major junctions, the number of major segments, and the total area of the lattice formed by HUVEC cells cultured in conditioned medium with HLE cells in the LDLR-knockdown group were 245.3±42.4, 257.5±20.4, and 2 535 754.5±249 094.2 square pixels, respectively, which were all higher than those of the control group (113.3±23.5, 114.3±12.2, and 1 565 456.5±219 259.7 square pixels, respectively, all P ＜0.01). In the conditioned medium for the control group of MHCC-97H cells,the number of main junctions, the number of main segments, and the total area of the lattice formed by the addition of CEA to cultured HUVEC cells were 178.9±12.0, 286.9±12.3, and 1 966 990.0±126 249.5 spixels, which were higher than those in the control group (119.7±22.1, 202.7±33.7, and 1 421 191.0±189 837.8 square pixels, respectively). The expression of LDLR in hepatocellular carcinoma tissues was not correlated with the expression of CEA, but was negatively correlated with the expression of CD31 ( r =-0.167, P =0.044), the level of serum CEA ( r =-0.061, P =0.032), and the level of serum ALT (r =-0.147, P =0.05). The expression of CEA in hepatocellular carcinoma tissues was positively correlated with the expression of CD31 ( r =0.192, P =0.020). The level of serum CEA was positively correlated with the level of serum ALT ( r =0.164, P =0.029). Conclusion: Knocking down LDLR can promote vascular abnormalities in HCC by releasing CEA.

This article designs and implements a fast and high-precision multi-robot environment modeling method based on bidirectional filtering and scene identification. To solve the problem of feature tracking failure caused by large angle rotation, a bidirectional filtering mechanism is introduced to improve the error-matching elimination algorithm. A global key frame database for multiple robots is proposed based on a pretraining dictionary to convert images into a bag of words vectors. The images captured by different sub-robots are compared with the database for similarity score calculation, so as to realize fast identification and search of similar scenes. The coordinate transformation from local map to global map and the cooperative SLAM exploration of multiple robots is completed by the best matching image and the transformation matrix. Ferroptosis is a promising therapeutic approach for combating malignant cancers, but its effectiveness is limited in clinical due to the adaptability and self-repair abilities of cancer cells. Mitochondria, as the pivotal player in ferroptosis, exhibit tremendous therapeutic potential by targeting the intramitochondrial anti-ferroptotic pathway mediated by dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH). In this study, an albumin-based nanomedicine was developed to induce augmented ferroptosis in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) by depleting glutathione (GSH) and inhibiting DHODH activity. The nanomedicine (ATO/SRF@BSA) was developed by loading sorafenib (SRF) and atovaquone (ATO) into bovine serum albumin (BSA). SRF is an FDA-approved ferroptosis inducer and ATO is the only drug used in clinical that targets mitochondria. By combining the effects of SRF and ATO, ATO/SRF@BSA promoted the accumulation of lipid peroxides within mitochondria by inhibiting the glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4)-GSH pathway and downregulating the DHODH-coenzyme Q (CoQH 2 ) defense mechanism, triggers a burst of lipid peroxides. Simultaneously, ATO/SRF@BSA suppressed cancer cell self-repair and enhanced cell death by inhibiting the synthesis of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and pyrimidine nucleotides. Furthermore, the anti-cancer results showed that ATO/SRF@BSA exhibited tumor-specific killing efficacy, significantly improved the tumor hypoxic microenvironment, and lessened the toxic side effects of SRF. Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is considered a valuable asset in China's medical tradition. YPF is a classic prescription that has been derived from the "Jiu Yuan Fang" formula and consists of three herbs: Huangqi (Astragalus membranaceus Bunge), Baizhu (Atractylodes rubra Dekker), and Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia divaricata (Turcz.) Schischk). This prescription is widely acclaimed for its exceptional pharmacological properties, including potent antioxidant effects, hormone regulation, and immune modulation effects., Aim of the Study: Previous research provides evidence suggesting that YPF may have therapeutic effects on pulmonary fibrosis. Further exploration is essential to confirm its effectiveness and elucidate the fundamental processes., Materials and Methods: First, the active components and target genes of YPF were extracted from the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology (TCMSP) database. Next, the GSE53845 dataset, which contains information on pulmonary fibrosis, was downloaded from the GEO database. Network informatics methods was then be utilized to identify target genes associated with pulmonary fibrosis. A YPF-based network of protein-protein interactions was constructed to pinpoint possible target genes for pulmonary fibrosis treatment. Additionally, an in vitro model of pulmonary fibrosis induced by bleomycin (BLM) was established to further investigate and validate the possible mechanisms underlying the effectiveness of YPF., Results: In this study, a total of 24 active ingredients of YPF, along with 178 target genes associated with the treatment, were identified. Additionally, 615 target genes related to pulmonary fibrosis were identified. Functional enrichment analysis revealed that 18 candidate genes (CGs) exhibited significant responses to tumor necrosis factor, NF-kB survival signaling, and positive regulation of apoptosis processes. Among these CGs, CAV1, VCAM1, and TP63 were identified as key target genes. Furthermore, cell experiments confirmed that the expression of CAV1 protein and RNA expression was increased in pulmonary fibrosis, but significantly decreased after treatment with YPF. Additionally, the expression of pSmad2, α-SMA, TGF-β1, and TNF-α was also decreased following YPF treatment., Conclusions: Network pharmacology analysis revealed that YPF exhibits significant potential as a therapeutic intervention for pulmonary fibrosis by targeting various compounds and pathways. This study emphasizes that the efficacy of YPF in treating pulmonary fibrosis may be attributed to its ability to up-regulate CAV1 expression and inhibiting pulmonary fibrosis via modulation of the TGF-β1/Smad2 signaling pathway. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a complex neurodegenerative disease. Despite several decades of research, the development of effective treatments and responses for Alzheimer's disease remains elusive. The utilization of polysaccharides for Alzheimer's disease became more popular due to their beneficial characteristics, notably their multi-target activity and low toxicity. Objectives: To explore the action characteristics of acupuncture manipulations by combining visual and sensor technique, so as to improve the identification and classification accuracy of acupuncture manipulations and to quantificate the classifiations., Methods: In this paper, the time domain features of acupuncture physical parameters and dynamic gesture features in the video of acupuncture manipulations are combined together to identify and classify acupuncture techniques. The acupuncture needle manipulation processes of 2 acupuncture experts and 3 young acupuncturists were selected as the study objects. The collected data included 4 basic manipulation techniques：lifting-thrusting reinforcing, lifting- thrusting reducing, twisting reinforcing and twisting reducing methods, all of which were performed by right-handed doctors. During acupuncture manipulation, a three-axis attitude sensor was used to acquire finger moving acceleration velocity and needle-rotating angle velocity, followed by analyzing the parameters of hand-moving velocity, amplitude, strength and angle. The mapping relationship among physical parameters and different manipulating methods was formed in time domain. The computer vision technology was employed to extract the spatio-temporal features of the acupuncture manipulation video images, and a hybrid model of three-dimensional convolutional neural network (3D CNN) and long- and short-term memory (LSTM) neural network were used for the recognition and classification of dynamic gestures of hand in acupuncture manipulation videos. Then the time-domain features of physical parameters were combined with the dynamic gestures in the classification process, with the manipulation classification realized., Results: In performing the lift-thrusting reinforcing method, the needle insertion speed was faster and the force was larger, while the needle lifting speed was slower and the force was smaller. And in performing the lift-thrusting reducing method, the needle lifting speed was faster, the force was stronger, and the needle insertion speed was slower and the force was smaller. In the performance of twisting reinforcing, the leftward twisting force was bigger and the rotation amplitude was larger, while in performing the reducing method, the rightward twisting force was larger and the rotation amplitude was larger. When using the mean value of time of acceleration, speed, and amplitude as the basis of discrimination, the accuracy rates of lifting-thrusting reinforcing and reducing were 95.56% and 93.33%, while those of the two twisting manipulations were 95.56% and 91.11%, respectively. Compared with the classification method that only uses the sensor to obtain the manipulation information, the recognition accuracy was significantly improved., Conclusions: The acupuncture manipulation classification system can achieve quantitative analysis of physical parameters and dynamic recognition of acupuncture techniques, providing a certain foundation for the quantification and inheritance of acupuncture techniques.

The rapid, sensitive and reliable food safety control is urgently needed due to the harmful effects of the food contaminants on human health. Colorimetric approach has exhibited promising potential for the detection of food contaminants due to their easy preparation, rapid detection, high sensitivity, and naked-eye sensing. In recent years, AuNPs-based colorimetric probes have been extensively explored for food analysis. The present article reviews the development of AuNPs-based colorimetric probes for colorimetric sensing and their applications in food analysis. It generally summarizes the properties of AuNPs and introduces the preparation and functionalization methods of AuNPs. An overview of the colorimetric sensing mechanisms of AuNPs-based probes and their applications in analysis of food contaminants are also provided. Background: The burden of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) among children and adolescents is rising globally, with substantial variation in levels and trends of disease in different countries and regions, while data on the burden and trends were sparse in children and adolescents. We aimed to assess the trends and geographical differences in children and adolescents aged zero to 19 in 204 countries and territories over the past 30 years., Methods: Data on IBD among children and adolescents was collected from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2019 database from 1990 to 2019. We used the GBD data and methodologies to describe the change in the burden of IBD among children and adolescents involving prevalence, incidence, disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), and mortality., Results: Globally, the IBD prevalence cases increased between 1990 and 2019. Annual percentage changes (AAPC) = 0.15; 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.11-0.19, and incidence cases of IBD increased from 20 897.4 (95% CI = 17 008.6-25 520.2 in 1990 to 25 658.6 (95% CI = 21 268.5-31 075.6) in 2019, representing a 22.78% increase, DALYs cases decreased between 1990 and 2019 (AAPC = -3.02; 95% CI = -3.15 to -2.89), and mortality cases of IBD decreased from 2756.5 (95% CI = 1162.6-4484.9) in 1990 to 1208.0 (95% CI = 802.4-1651.4) in 2019, representing a 56.17% decrease. Decomposition analysis showed that IBD prevalence and incidence increased significantly, and a trend exhibited a decrease in underlying age and population-adjusted IBD DALYs and mortality rates. Correlation analysis showed that countries with high health care quality and access (HAQ) had relatively higher IBD age-standardised prevalence rate (ASPR) and age-standardised incidence rate (ASIR), but lower age-standardised DALYs rate (ASDR) and age-standardised mortality rate (ASMR)., Conclusions: Global prevalence and incidence rate of IBD among children and adolescents have been increasing from 1990 to 2019, while the DALYs and mortality have been decreasing. Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness of the constructed OOIDE intervention in patients with advanced cancer., Method: In this study, patients were invited to participate in a 4-week OOIDE intervention. The assessment of patients' ability to cope with death was conducted using a scale in conjunction with interviews. Additionally, patients' 'readiness to die' was assessed., Results: Thirty-two patients with advanced cancer participated in this study. Our intervention significantly enhanced their perspective on life and spirituality, while also reducing their fear of death (P < 0.01). Furthermore, it facilitated their acceptance of death, encouraged a more rational approach to their illness, and fostered an understanding of hospice care, thereby reinforcing their sense of self-worth. Additionally, the intervention improved the relationship between the patient and their families, fostering greater mutual understanding and respect for the patient's perspectives. Cordia subcordata trees or shrubs, belonging to the Boraginaceae family, have strong resistance and have adapted to their habitat on a tropical coral island in China, but the lack of genome information regarding its genetic background is unclear. In this study, the genome was assembled using both short/long whole genome sequencing reads and Hi-C reads. The assembled genome was 475.3 Mb, with 468.7 Mb (99.22%) of the sequences assembled into 16 chromosomes. Repeat sequences accounted for 54.41% of the assembled genome. A total of 26,615 genes were predicted, and 25,730 genes were functionally annotated using different annotation databases. Based on its genome and the other 17 species, phylogenetic analysis using 336 single-copy genes obtained from ortholog analysis showed that C. subcordata was a sister to Coffea eugenioides , and the divergence time was estimated to be 77 MYA between the two species. Gene family evolution analysis indicated that the significantly expanded gene families were functionally related to chemical defenses against diseases. These results can provide a reference to a deeper understanding of the genetic background of C. subcordata and can be helpful in exploring its adaptation mechanism on tropical coral islands in the future.

Piezocatalysis is an emerging technique that holds great promise for the conversion of ubiquitous mechanical energy into electrochemical energy through piezoelectric effect. However, mechanical energies in natural environment (such as wind energy, water flow energy, and noise) are typically tiny, scattered, and featured with low frequency and low power. Therefore, a high response to these tiny mechanical energies is critical to achieving high piezocatalytic performance. In comparison to nanoparticles or 1D piezoelectric materials, 2D piezoelectric materials possess characteristics such as high flexibility, easy deformation, large surface area, and rich active sites, showing more promise in future for practical applications. In this review, state-of-the-art research progresses on 2D piezoelectric materials and their applications in piezocatalysis are provided. First, a detailed description of 2D piezoelectric materials are offered. Then a comprehensive summary of the piezocatalysis technique is presented and examines the piezocatalysis applications of 2D piezoelectric materials in various fields, including environmental remediation, small-molecule catalysis, and biomedicine. Finally, the main challenges and prospects of 2D piezoelectric materials and their applications in piezocatalysis are discussed. Normal life activities between cells rely crucially on the homeostasis of the cellular microenvironment, but aging and cancer will upset this balance. In this paper we introduce the microenvironmental feedback mechanism to the growth dynamics of multicellular organisms, which changes the cellular competitive ability and thereby regulates the growth of multicellular organisms. We show that the presence of microenvironmental feedback can effectively delay aging, but cancer cells may grow uncontrollably due to the emergence of the tumor microenvironment (TME). We study the effect of the fraction of cancer cells relative to that of senescent cells on the feedback rate of the microenvironment on the lifespan of multicellular organisms and find that the average lifespan shortened is close to the data for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in Canada from 1980 to 2015. We also investigate how the competitive ability of cancer cells affects the lifespan of multicellular organisms and reveal that there is an optimal value of the competitive ability of cancer cells allowing the organism to survive longest. Interestingly, the proposed microenvironmental feedback mechanism can give rise to the phenomenon of Parrondo's paradox: When the competitive ability of cancer cells switches between a too-high and a too-low value, multicellular organisms are able to live longer than in each case individually. Our results may provide helpful clues for targeted therapies aimed at the TME.

Lower-grade glioma (LGG), a prevalent malignant tumor in the central nervous system, requires accurate prediction and treatment to prevent aggressive progression. We aimed to explore the role of disulfidptosis-related genes (DRGs) in LGG, a recently discovered form of programmed cell death characterized by abnormal disulfide accumulation. Leveraging public databases, we analyzed 532 LGG tumor tissues (The Cancer Genome Atlas), 1,157 normal samples (Genotype-Tissue Expression), and 21 LGG tumor samples with 8 paired normal samples (GSE16011). Our research uncovered intricate relationships between DRGs and crucial aspects of LGG, including gene expression, immune response, mutation, drug sensitivity, and functional enrichment. Notably, we identified significant heterogeneity among disulfidptosis sub-clusters and elucidated specific differential gene expression in LGG, with myeloid cell leukemia-1 (MCL1) as a key candidate. Machine learning techniques validated the relevance of MCL1, considering its expression patterns, prognostic value, diagnostic potential, and impact on immune infiltration. Our study offers opportunities and challenges to unravel potential mechanisms underlying LGG prognosis, paving the way for personalized cancer care and innovative immunotherapeutic strategies. Background: Umbilical cord (UC) mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) transplantation is a potential therapeutic intervention for atherosclerotic vascular disease. Integrin beta 3 (ITGB3) promotes cell migration in several cell types. However, whether ITGB-modified MSCs can migrate to plaque sites in vivo and play an anti-atherosclerotic role remains unclear., Aim: To investigate whether ITGB3-overexpressing MSCs (MSCs ITGB3 ) would exhibit improved homing efficacy in atherosclerosis., Methods: UC MSCs were isolated and expanded. Lentiviral vectors encoding ITGB3 or green fluorescent protein (GFP) as control were transfected into MSCs. Sixty male apolipoprotein E -/- mice were acquired from Beijing Vital River Lab Animal Technology Co., Ltd and fed with a high-fat diet (HFD) for 12 wk to induce the formation of atherosclerotic lesions. These HFD-fed mice were randomly separated into three clusters. GFP-labeled MSCs (MSCs GFP ) or MSCs ITGB3 were transplanted into the mice intravenously via the tail vein. Immunofluorescence staining, Oil red O staining, histological analyses, western blotting, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction were used for the analyses., Results: ITGB3 modified MSCs successfully differentiated into the "osteocyte" and "adipocyte" phenotypes and were characterized by positive expression (> 91.3%) of CD29, CD73, and CD105 and negative expression (< 1.35%) of CD34 and Human Leukocyte Antigen-DR. In a transwell assay, MSCs ITGB3 showed significantly faster migration than MSCs GFP . ITGB3 overexpression had no effects on MSC viability, differentiation, and secretion. Immunofluorescence staining revealed that ITGB3 overexpression substantially enhanced the homing of MSCs to plaque sites. Oil red O staining and histological analyses further confirmed the therapeutic effects of MSCs ITGB3 , significantly reducing the plaque area. The gallbladder is the most common site of tumor occurrence among biliary tract cancer. Gallbladder cancer accounts for approximately 0.6% of new cancers and 0.9% of cancer-related deaths. The risk factors identified for the development of gallbladder cancer include being female,>65 years of age, asymptomatic gallstone disease,and obesity. Surgical resection is the only curative treatment for early-stage gallbladder cancer, and some intermediate or advanced gallbladder cancers can be radically cured by extended resection. However, the extent of liver resection or lymph node dissection and whether to combine it with bile duct removal, revascularisation,and multiple organ resection remain somewhat controversial. After neoadjuvant treatment, up to a third of patients with locally advanced gallbladder cancer benefit from secondary surgical treatment. Only a small proportion of patients with gallbladder cancer at high risk for recurrence will benefit from postoperative adjuvant therapy. With the advent of different target-targeted drugs and the use of genetic tests in biliary tract cancer, targeted therapy and PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors may become the new standard of care for gallbladder cancer and need to be further explored.

Microcapsules could improve the protection of probiotics in the lyophilization and gastrointestinal digestion process. The purpose of this study was to prepare Lactiplantibacillus plantarum DMDL 9010 (LP9010) microcapsules by cross-linking chitosan with genipin and to determine the encapsulation efficiency, morphological characterization, storage stability and the application of the microcapsules in fermentation. The results showed that the LP9010 microcapsules embedded in 1.00 wt% genipin cross-linked chitosan were in a uniform spherical shape with a smooth surface and satisfying agglomeration. The LP9010 microcapsules demonstrated the reasonable thermal stability and persistence of biological activity in the range of -20 °C to 25 °C. Additionally, yogurt obtained from the ST + LB + ELP9010 strain formulation with the addition of microencapsulated LP9010 had smaller particles, better taste, and better stability compared with the yogurt obtained from other strain formulations. As detected by GC-MS, the yogurt formulated with ST + LB + ELP9010 as a strain retained more flavor substances and the content of flavor substances was greater than that of the yogurt obtained from other strain formulations. The use of overwhelming reactive oxygen species (ROS) attack has shown great potential for treating aggressive malignancies; however, targeting this process for further applications is greatly hindered by inefficiency and low selectivity. Here, a novel strategy for ROS explosion induced by tumor microenvironment-initiated lipid redox cycling was proposed, which was developed by using soybean phosphatidylcholine (SPC) to encapsulate lactate oxidase (LOX) and sorafenib (SRF) self-assembled nanoparticles (NPs), named LOX/SRF@Lip. SPC is not only the delivery carrier but an unsaturated lipid supplement for ROS explosion. And LOX catalyzes excessive intratumoral lactate to promote the accumulation of large amounts of H 2 O 2 . Then, H 2 O 2 reacts with excessive endogenous iron ions to generate amounts of hydroxyl radical for the initiation of SPC peroxidation. Once started, the reaction will proceed via propagation to form new lipid peroxides (LPO), resulting to devastating LPO explosion and widespread oxidative damage in tumor cells. Furthermore, SRF makes contribution to mass LPO accumulation by inhibiting LPO elimination. Compared to normal tissue, tumor tissue has higher levels of lactate and iron ions. Therefore, LOX/SRF@Lip shows low toxicity in normal tissues, but generates efficient inhibition on tumor proliferation and metastasis, enabling excellent and safe tumor-specific therapy. Objective: The study investigated the clinical distribution, antimicrobial resistance and epidemiologic characteristics of hypervirulent Carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (hv-CRKP) in a hospital in Henan Province to provide a scientific basis for antibiotic use and nosocomial infection prevention and control. Methods: A retrospective analysis of the clinical data from the cases was carried out in this study. Clinical data of patients infected with the CRKP strain isolated from the clinical microbiology laboratory of Henan Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January 2020 to December 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. A string test, virulence gene screening, serum killing, and a G. mellonella infection model were used to screen hv-CRKP isolates. The clinical characteristics of hv-CRKP and the drug resistance rate of hv-CRKP to twenty-five antibiotics were analyzed using WHONET 5.6. Carbapenemase phenotypic characterization of the hv-CRKP was performed by colloidal gold immunochromatographic assay, and Carbapenemase genotyping, multi-locus sequence typing (MLST) and capsular serotyping of hv-CRKP isolates were performed by PCR and Sanger sequencing. Results: A total of non-duplicate 264 CRKP clinical isolates were detected in the hospital from 2020 to 2022, and 23 hv-CRKP isolates were detected, so the corresponding detection rate of hv-CRKP was 8.71% (23/264). The hv-CRKP isolates in this study were mainly from the intensive care unit (10/23) and neurosurgery department (8/23), and the main sources of hv-CRKP isolates were sputum (10/23) and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (6/23). The hv-CRKP isolates in this study were highly resistant to β-lactam antibiotics, fluoroquinolones and aminoglycosides, and were only susceptible to colistin, tigecycline and ceftazidime/avibactam. The detection rate of the blaKPC-2 am ong 23 hv-CRKP isolates was 91.30% (21/23) and none of the class B and class D carbapenemases were detected. Results of MLST and capsular serotypes showed that ST11 type hv-CRKP was the dominant strain in the hospital, accounting for 56.52% (13/23), and K64 (9/13) and KL47 (4/13) were the major capsular serotypes. Conclusion: The hv-CRKP isolates from the hospital are mainly from lower respiratory tract specimens from patients admitted to the intensive care department and the drug resistance is relatively severe. The predominant strains with certain polymorphisms are mainly composed of the KPC-2 -producing ST11-K64 and ST11-KL47 hv-CRKP isolates in the hospital.

Aim: To predict best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) by machine learning in patients with ocular trauma who were treated for at least 6mo., Methods: The internal dataset consisted of 850 patients with 1589 eyes and an average age of 44.29y. The initial visual acuity was 0.99 logMAR. The test dataset consisted of 60 patients with 100 eyes collected while the model was optimized. Four different machine-learning algorithms (Extreme Gradient Boosting, support vector regression, Bayesian ridge, and random forest regressor) were used to predict BCVA, and four algorithms (Extreme Gradient Boosting, support vector machine, logistic regression, and random forest classifier) were used to classify BCVA in patients with ocular trauma after treatment for 6mo or longer. Clinical features were obtained from outpatient records, and ocular parameters were extracted from optical coherence tomography images and fundus photographs. These features were put into different machine-learning models, and the obtained predicted values were compared with the actual BCVA values. The best-performing model and the best variable selected were further evaluated in the test dataset., Results: There was a significant correlation between the predicted and actual values [all Pearson correlation coefficient (PCC)>0.6]. Considering only the data from the traumatic group (group A) into account, the lowest mean absolute error (MAE) and root mean square error (RMSE) were 0.30 and 0.40 logMAR, respectively. In the traumatic and healthy groups (group B), the lowest MAE and RMSE were 0.20 and 0.33 logMAR, respectively. The sensitivity was always higher than the specificity in group A, in contrast to the results in group B. The classification accuracy and precision were above 0.80 in both groups. The MAE, RMSE, and PCC of the test dataset were 0.20, 0.29, and 0.96, respectively. The sensitivity, precision, specificity, and accuracy of the test dataset were 0.83, 0.92, 0.95, and 0.90, respectively., Conclusion: Predicting BCVA using machine-learning models in patients with treated ocular trauma is accurate and helpful in the identification of visual dysfunction., (International Journal of Ophthalmology Press.)

Background and Objective: Since approval of sorafenib in 2008, systemic therapy has been established as the main treatment option for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Recently, immune checkpoints inhibitors (ICIs) have been extensively tested in this setting. Multiple ICI combination regimens have recently received regulatory approval and new data continues to emerge. The purpose of this review is to provide a comprehensive summary of the most up-to-date evidence on ICI combinations in advanced HCC., Methods: A search of published and presented literature was conducted to identify phase III trials of ICI combinations in advanced HCC patients. Supplemental bibliographic search of review articles and meta-analyses was also conducted. Efficacy and safety data was summarized in text, tables, and plots., Findings and Discussion: The literature search identified a total of six phase III trials assessing ICI combinations in advanced HCC. Two trials compared ICI plus anti-VEGF monoclonal antibody combinations to sorafenib, three trials compared ICI plus tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) combinations to TKIs alone, and one trial compared a dual ICI regimen to sorafenib. Statistically significant survival benefits were seen with atezolizumab-bevacizumab and sintilimab-bevacizumab biosimilar as well as durvalumab-tremelimumab and camrelizumab-rivoceranib combinations. ICI combination regimens have also shown improvements in response rates and progression-free survival relative to the previous standard of care, sorafenib, and generally presented predictable and manageable safety profiles., Conclusion: ICI combinations represent the new standard of care for advanced HCC. Pseudomonas aeruginosa ( P. aeruginosa ) is an opportunistic pathogenic bacterium with complex pathogenesis and drug resistance mechanisms. It has high morbidity and mortality and can cause acute and chronic infections in immunocompromised individuals, with lung infections, wound infections, and bloodstream infections being the most common. The animal infection model of P. aeruginosa is of great value for in-depth research on the pathogenicity, drug resistance, and therapeutic measures of P. aeruginosa by simulating the pathways of human bacterial infections. This article firstly summarizes the selection, anesthesia, and disposal of experimental animals in the construction of animal models of P. aeruginosa infection, and then reviews the methods of construction, model evaluation, and applications of animal models of P. aeruginosa pulmonary infection, wound infection, and bloodstream infection, in order to provide a reference for scientific research related to P. aeruginosa infectious diseases.

Background: The expression of brain cytoplasmic RNA1 ( BCYRN1 ) is linked to the clinicopathology and prognosis of several types of cancers, among which hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most frequent types of cancer worldwide., Aim: To explore the prognostic value and immunotherapeutic potential of BCYRN1 in HCC by bioinformatics and meta-analysis., Methods: Information was obtained from the Cancer Genome Atlas database. First, the correlation between BCYRN1 expression and prognosis and clinicopathologic characteristics of HCC patients was explored. Univariate and multivariate regression analyses were employed to examine the relationship between BCYRN1 and HCC prognosis. Secondly, potential functions and pathways were explored by means of enrichment analysis of differentially-expressed genes. The relationships between BCYRN1 expression and tumor microenvironment, immune cell infiltration, immune checkpoint, drug sensitivity and immunotherapy effect were also investigated. Finally, three major databases were searched and used to conduct a meta-analysis on the relationship between BCYRN1 expression and patient prognosis., Results: BCYRN1 expression was significantly higher in HCC compared to normal tissues and was linked to a poor prognosis and clinicopathological characteristics. Enrichment analysis showed that BCYRN1 regulates the extracellular matrix and transmission of signaling molecules, participates in the metabolism of nutrients, such as proteins, and participates in tumor-related pathways. BCYRN1 expression was linked to the tumor microenvironment, immune cell infiltration, drug sensitivity and the efficacy of immunotherapy. Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) a leading cause of cancer mortality worldwide and approximately one-third of patients present with intermediate-stage disease. The treatment landscape of intermediate-stage HCC is rapidly evolving due to developments in local, locoregional and systemic therapies. Treatment recommendations focused on this heterogenous disease stage and that take into account the Canadian reality are lacking. To address this gap, a pan-Canadian group of experts in hepatology, transplant, surgery, radiation therapy, nuclear medicine, interventional radiology, and medical oncology came together to develop consensus recommendations on management of intermediate-stage HCC relevant to the Canadian context., Methods: A modified Delphi framework was used to develop consensus statements with strengths of recommendation and supporting levels of evidence graded using the AHA/ACC classification system. Tentative consensus statements were drafted based on a systematic search and expert input in a series of iterative feedback cycles and were then circulated via online survey to assess the level of agreement., Results & Conclusion: The pre-defined ratification threshold of 80 % agreement was reached for all statements in the areas of multidisciplinary treatment (n = 4), intra-arterial therapy (n = 14), biologics (n = 5), radiation therapy (n = 3), surgical resection and transplantation (n = 7), and percutaneous ablative therapy (n = 4). These generally reflected an expansion in treatment options due to developments in previously established or emergent techniques, introduction of new and more active therapies and increased therapeutic flexibility. Purpose: To determine whether hepatic hilar nerve block techniques reduce analgesic and sedation requirements during percutaneous image-guided thermal ablation of hepatic tumors., Materials and Methods: A single-center retrospective cohort analysis was performed of 177 patients (median age, 67 years; range, 33-86 years) who underwent percutaneous image-guided thermal ablation of liver tumors. All patients were treated utilizing local anesthetic and moderate sedation between November 2018 and November 2021 at a tertiary level hospital, with or without the administration of a hepatic hilar nerve block. Univariable and multivariable linear regression analyses were performed to determine the relationship between the administration of the hilar nerve block and fentanyl and midazolam dosages., Results: A total of 114 (64%) patients received a hilar nerve block in addition to procedural sedation, and 63 (36%) patients received procedural sedation alone. There were no significant differences in the baseline demographic and tumor characteristics between the cohorts. The procedure duration was longer in the hilar block cohort than in the unblocked cohort (median, 95 vs 82 minutes; P = .0012). The technical success rate (98% in both the cohorts, P = .93) and adverse event rate (11% vs 3%, P = .14) were not significantly different between the cohorts. After adjusting for patient and tumor characteristics, ablation modality, and procedure and ablation durations, hilar nerve blocks were associated with lower fentanyl (-18.4%, P = .0045) and midazolam (-22.7%, P = .0007) dosages., Conclusions: Hepatic hilar nerve blocks significantly decrease the fentanyl and midazolam requirements during thermal ablation of hepatic tumors, without a significant change in the technical success or adverse event rates., (Copyright © 2022 SIR.
