Abstract

Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) paradox highlights the absence of a local realistic explanation for quantum mechanics, and shows the incompatibility of the local-hidden-state models with quantum theory. For $N$-qubit states, or more importantly, the $N$-qubit mixed states, we present the EPR steering paradox in the form of the contradictory equality "2=1". We show that the contradiction holds for any $N$-qubit state as long as both the pure state requirement and the measurement requirement are satisfied. This also indicates that the EPR steering paradox exists in more general cases. Finally, we give specific examples to demonstrate and analyze our arguments., Comment: 12 pages, 0 figure

Abstract

Quantum paradoxes are essential means to reveal the incompatibility between quantum and classical theories, among which the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) steering paradox offers a sharper criterion for the contradiction between local-hidden-state model and quantum mechanics than the usual inequality-based method. In this work, we present a generalized EPR steering paradox, which predicts a contradictory equality $2_{Q}=\left( 1+\delta\right)_{C}$ ($0\leq\delta<1$) given by the quantum ($Q$) and classical ($C$) theories. For any $N$-qubit state in which the conditional state of the steered party is pure, we test the paradox through a two-setting steering protocol, and find that the state is steerable if some specific measurement requirements are satisfied. 8. Finite-size effects in one-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensation of photons

Abstract

The Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) of photons has been realized in one- and two-dimensional systems. When considering the influence of finite-size effect, the condensation in the one-dimensional fibre is of special interest since such a condensation cannot occur in the thermodynamic limit due to the linear dispersion relation of photons. The finite-size effect must play a key role in this system and needs a detailed description. However, the previous theoretical analysis of finite-size effect is often not accurate enough and only gives the leading-order contribution due to a divergence difficulty. In this paper, by using an analytical continuation method to overcome the divergence difficulty, we give an analytical treatment for the finite-size effect in BEC. The analytical expressions of the critical temperature or critical particle number with higher order correction and the chemical potential below the transition point are presented. Our result shows that in a recent experiment, the deviation between experiment and theory is overestimated, most of which is caused by the inaccurate theoretical treatment of the finite-size effect. Abstract

The finite-size effect plays a key role in one-dimensional Bose–Einstein condensation (BEC) of photons since such condensation cannot occur in the thermodynamic limit due to the linear dispersion relation of photons. Abstract

GPR6 is an orphan G protein–coupled receptor with high constitutive activity found in D2-type dopamine receptor–expressing medium spiny neurons of the striatopallidal pathway, which is aberrantly hyperactivated in Parkinson's disease. Here, we solved crystal structures of GPR6 without the addition of a ligand (a pseudo-apo state) and in complex with two inverse agonists, including CVN424, which improved motor symptoms in patients with Parkinson's disease in clinical trials. In addition, we obtained a cryo–electron microscopy structure of the signaling complex between GPR6 and its cognate Gs heterotrimer. The pseudo-apo structure revealed a strong density in the orthosteric pocket of GPR6 corresponding to a lipid-like endogenous ligand. A combination of site-directed mutagenesis, native mass spectrometry, and computer modeling suggested potential mechanisms for high constitutive activity and inverse agonism in GPR6 and identified a series of lipids and ions bound to the receptor. The structures and results obtained in this study could guide the rational design of drugs that modulate GPR6 signaling. 22. Exploring a new ligand binding site of G protein-coupled receptors.

Abstract

Identifying a target ligand binding site is an important step for structure-based rational drug design as shown here for G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), which are among the most popular drug targets. We applied long-time scale molecular dynamics simulations, coupled with mutagenesis studies, to two prototypical GPCRs, the M3 and M4 muscarinic acetylcholine receptors. Our results indicate that unlike synthetic antagonists, which bind to the classic orthosteric site, the endogenous agonist acetylcholine is able to diffuse into a much deeper binding pocket. We also discovered that the most recently resolved crystal structure of the LTB4 receptor comprised a bound inverse agonist, which extended its benzamidine moiety to the same binding pocket discovered in this work. Analysis on all resolved GPCR crystal structures indicated that this new pocket could exist in most receptors. Our findings provide new opportunities for GPCR drug discovery.

Abstract

This article presents a resistor‐loaded wideband absorber using a tightly coupled dipole structure. The conversional inherit wide bandwidth tightly coupled dipole which was used as an antenna is adopted as a unit cell. The port of the dipole is loaded with resistors to dissipate the microwave energy. The design principles of the absorber are given. An equivalent circuit model composed of an RLC resonant circuit is proposed to analyze the performance of the absorber. To demonstrate, a 288 mm × 288 mm absorber ranging from 1.96 to 8.08 GHz is fabricated and measured. The measured results agree well with the simulated ones which show that the absorber can work from 2 to 8.18 GHz with an absorption rate of more than 90%. Moreover, the proposed absorber is also insensitive to the polarization angle of the incident wave. When the incident angle changes from 0° to 45°, the absorption rate is nearly unchanged over the operating band. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study established an LPS-induced RAW264.7 macrophage inflammatory injury model and an AS mouse vulnerable plaque model to observe the effect of JPHYP on macrophage inflammation, plaque formation, blood lipids, inflammation levels, intestinal flora and the influence of TLR4/MyD88/MAPK pathway, and explore the anti-AS effect and molecular mechanism of JPHYP, and detected 16S rRNA of mice intestinal microbes. The difference of intestinal flora in different groups of mice was compared to further explore the intervention effect of JPHYP and clarify the molecular biological mechanism of JPHYP in preventing and treating AS by regulating TLR4/MyD88/MAPK inflammatory signaling pathway and improving intestinal flora. 32. Experimental study on impact toughness of EH36 ship steel in Arctic areas.

Abstract

Polar ships are subjected to the ice loading. Low temperature impact toughness of ship steels is important for the ice-breaking efficiency and navigation safety of polar ships. In this paper, the impact absorption energy of EH36 steel under different temperatures, impact velocities and plate thickness is analyzed by experimental test, Taguchi and ANOVA method. The impact absorption energy was divided into crack formation and crack propagation absorption energy. The experimental results show that the impact absorption energy of EH36 steel is positively correlated with plate thickness and temperature, and negatively with impact velocity when it was in the toughness state. The order of significance ranking from high to low is thickness, temperature, and impact velocity. The ratio of the crack propagation absorption energy increases with the temperatures and reflects the impact toughness of EH36 steel. Furthermore, the best factor combination of impact toughness of EH36 steel was obtained. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
