Abstract

Saponins are the primary secondary metabolites of sea cucumber, which are the material basis for its chemical defense. Sea cucumber saponins possess multiple biological properties including antitumor activity, immunoenhancing effect and ameliorative effect on metabolic syndrome, and therefore hold great promise in the development of health products and drugs. Sea cucumber saponins are complex and diverse, and their structural characteristics greatly affect their biological activities. This review begins with an overview of the sources and types of sea cucumber saponins, and then focuses on systematically summarizing the current status of research on their structural characteristics, bioactivities and action mechanisms. Finally, it gives an outlook on future prospects. We expect this review will provide a reference for the high-value development and utilization of sea cucumber saponins.

Abstract

伴皮质下梗死和白质脑病的常染色体显性遗传性脑动脉病（cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy，CADASIL）是NOTCH3基因突变所致的遗传性脑小血管病，主要病变血管为颅内小动脉，累及大脑皮质和颅内大/中动脉的报道较罕见，目前缺乏特效治疗方法。本文报道1例大脑中动脉急性闭塞成功接受血管内治疗的CADASIL病例，并结合文献进行讨论，旨在引起临床医师对CADASIL可累及大脑皮质和颅内大/中动脉的重视。 Abstract: Cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy (CADASIL) is a hereditary cerebral small vessel disease caused by mutations in the NOTCH3 gene. The main vascular pathological changes in CADASIL are intracranial small arteries, with rare reports of involvement in the cerebral cortex and intracranial large/middle arteries. There is currently a lack of specific treatment for CADASIL. This paper reported a case of CADASIL patient who successfully received endovascular treatment for acute occlusion of middle cerebral artery, and discussed the literature with the aim of raising clinical awareness of the potential involvement of CADASIL in the cerebral cortex and intracranial large/middle arteries.

Abstract

Data-driven decision making has been a common task in today's big data era, from simple choices such as finding a fast way to drive home, to complex decisions on medical treatment. It is often supported by visual analytics. For various reasons (e.g., system failure, interrupted network, intentional information hiding, or bias), visual analytics for sensemaking of data involves missingness (e.g., data loss and incomplete analysis), which impacts human decisions. For example, missing data can cost a business millions of dollars, and failing to recognize key evidence can put an innocent person in jail. Being aware of missingness is critical to avoid such catastrophes. To fulfill this, as an initial step, we consider missingness in visual analytics from two aspects: data-centric and human-centric. The former emphasizes missingness in three data-related categories: data composition, data relationship, and data usage. The latter focuses on the human-perceived missingness at three levels: observed-level, inferred-level, and ignored-level. Based on them, we discuss possible roles of visualizations for handling missingness, and conclude our discussion with future research opportunities., Comment: IEEE VIS (InfoVis/VAST/SciVis) 2022
