PurposeTo evaluate the thinning of the circumpapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (cpRNFL) and macular ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer (mGCIPL) in primary open-angle glaucoma eyes with and without a history of disc hemorrhage (DH).DesignObservational cohort study.ParticipantsThirty-nine 39 eyes (34 participants) with DH and 117 eyes (104 participants) without DH from the Diagnostic Innovations in Glaucoma Study and the African Decent and Glaucoma Evaluation Study.MethodsParticipants had at least 1.5 years of follow-up, with a minimum of 3 visits with biannual spectral-domain OCT cpRNFL and mGCIPL thickness measurements and visual fields (VFs). The rates of cpRNFL and mGCIPL thinning were calculated using mixed-effects models. The dynamic range-based normalized rates of cpRNFL and mGCIPL thinning were calculated and compared between the DH and non-DH groups.Main outcome measuresRates of cpRNFL and mGCIPL thinning.ResultsThe rate of mGCIPL thinning was significantly faster in the DH group compared with the non-DH group (-0.62 μm/year vs. -0.38 μm/year; P = 0.024). The rate of cpRNFL thinning in the DH quadrant and rate of mGCIPL thinning in the inferotemporal sector in the DH group were faster than the corresponding regions in the non-DH group after adjusting for intraocular pressure (-1.33 μm/year vs. -0.58 μm/year; P = 0.053) and race (-0.82 μm/year vs. -0.44 μm/year; P = 0.048). In the DH group, percent rate of loss was significantly faster for the mGCIPL than the cpRNFL (-1.59 %/year vs. -1.31 %/year; P = 0.046). Rates of mGCIPL thinning were associated weakly with mean deviation slope, VF index slope, and guided progression analysis (GPA). The areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve for VF progression were 0.75 for mGCIPL and 0.56 for cpRNFL in the DH group.ConclusionsThe rate of mGCIPL and cpRNFL thinning was faster in DH eyes than non-DH eyes. Compared with cpRNFL, mGCIPL showed higher proportional rates of thinning and greater association with functional progression. In addition to cpRNFL, clinicians should consider incorporating mGCIPL imaging to monitor glaucoma progression, especially in glaucoma eyes with DH.

PrecisA lower baseline corneal hysteresis and a decrease in corneal resistance factor (CRF) over time are associated with higher risk of visual field progression in glaucomatous and glaucoma suspect eyes.PurposeThe aim was to investigate the longitudinal change in CRF and cornea hysteresis (CH) as risk factors for visual field progression.Materials and methodsIn this prospective observational cohort study, 72 eyes of 48 glaucoma or glaucoma suspect patients were followed for an average of 4.5 years. Baseline and follow-up CH and CRF measurements were performed with the Ocular Response Analyzer (Reichert Ophthalmic Instruments Inc., Depew, N.Y.). Evaluation of rates of visual field change during follow-up was performed using visual field mean deviation. Univariable and multivariable linear mixed models assessed the relationship of visual field progression with baseline CRF and CH as well as with changes in CRF and CH.ResultsThe mean baseline CH was 9.0 (95% confidence interval: 8.6-9.4)  mm Hg and the mean baseline CRF was 9.3 (95% confidence interval: 8.8-9.9) mm Hg. There was no statistically significant difference in average CH and CRF measurements over time. In multivariable modeling adjusting for age, race, and mean intraocular pressure during follow-up, each 1 mm Hg lower in baseline CH and 1 mm Hg decrease in CRF over time were associated with a 0.12 (P=0.042) and 0.14 dB/year (P=0.007) faster rate of visual field mean deviation loss, respectively. Similar findings were found in glaucoma eyes but not found in glaucoma suspect eyes.ConclusionVisual field progression was associated with a lower baseline CH and a decrease in CRF over time. Assessment of corneal resistance and elasticity at baseline and during follow-up examinations should be considered to identify those eyes at highest risk of visual field progression.

The Mg-xGd-1Er-1Zn-0.6Zr alloys with Gd contents of 7%(mass fraction), 9% and 11% were prepared by gravity casting method.The microstructure of the alloys was studied by means of optical microscope, scanning electron microscope and X-ray diffractometer.The corrosion behavior of the alloys were evaluated by means of open circuit potential, potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements in 3.5%NaCl solution.The results show that when Gd content increases from 7% to 11%, the peak time of open circuit potential decreases from 1609 s to 851 s, the charge transfer resistance decreases from 588.50 Ω to 31.9 Ω, the corrosion current density increases from 2.21×10-5 A/cm2 to 3.97×10-5 A/cm2, indicating that the corrosion resistance of the alloys decreases with the increase of Gd content.It is attributed to the combined operation of the micro-galvanic corrosion effect as well as corrosion barrier effect of second phase.When the Gd content increases from 7% to 11%, the volume fraction of (Mg, Zn)3(Gd, Er) phase increases from 1.9% to 5.2%, and changes from discontinuous distribution to semi-continuous distribution along grain boundaries, the volume fraction of the lamellar-shape LPSO phase increases from 11.7% to 26.7% and penetrates into grains.The increase in the volume fraction of the (Mg, Zn)3(Gd, Er) phase and the lamellar-shape LPSO phase results in the decrease of corrosion resistance, however, a large number of fine lamellar-shape LPSO phases is able to prevent the corrosion from spreading and slow down the growth of corrosion rate of the alloy with 11%Gd content in 8-24 h.

Background: Kidney stone formation is a common disease that causes a significant threat to human health. The crystallization mechanism of calcium oxalate, the most common type of kidney stone, has been extensively researched, yet the damaging effects and mechanisms of calcium oxalate crystals on renal tubular epithelial cells remain incompletely elucidated. Regulated mitochondrial dynamics is essential for eukaryotic cells, but its role in the occurrence and progression of calcium oxalate (CaOx) nephrolithiasis is not yet understood. Methods: An animal model of calcium oxalate-related nephrolithiasis was established in adult male Sprague‒Dawley (SD) rats by continuously administering drinking water containing 1% ethylene glycol for 28 days. The impact of calcium oxalate crystals on mitochondrial dynamics and apoptosis in renal tubular epithelial cells was investigated using HK2 cells in vitro. Blood samples and bilateral kidney tissues were collected for histopathological evaluation and processed for tissue injury, inflammation, fibrosis, oxidative stress detection, and mitochondrial dynamics parameter analysis. Results: Calcium oxalate crystals caused higher levels of mitochondrial fission and apoptosis in renal tubular epithelial cells both in vivo and in vitro. Administration of a PPARγ agonist significantly alleviated mitochondrial fission and apoptosis in renal tubular epithelial cells, and improved renal function, accompanied by reduced levels of oxidative stress, increased antioxidant enzyme expression, alleviation of inflammation, and reduced fibrosis in vivo. Conclusion: Our results indicated that increased mitochondrial fission in renal tubular epithelial cells is a critical component of kidney injury caused by calcium oxalate stones, leading to the accumulation of reactive oxygen species within the tissue and the subsequent initiation of apoptosis. The multi-stage temporary plugging and diverting fracturing technique stands as a pivotal method for enhancing production in tight oil reservoirs. At present, fracture propagation models in temporary plugging and diverting fracturing primarily focus on single-stage temporary plugging, disregarding intricate mechanisms influenced by multi-stage temporary plugging and inter-fracture interference on the redirection and propagation of artificial fractures. To address this gap, this study employs the extended finite element method and establishes a mechanical model for the propagation of multi-stage temporary plugging fractures in tight oil reservoirs based on the maximum circumferential stress criterion. Relevant numerical simulations are conducted, considering key factors such as horizontal stress differences, fracturing fluid viscosity, injection rate, and initial fracture angle, all of which influence the morphology of diversion fracture propagation. The study rigorously analyzes and compares characteristics such as the radius of diversion fractures, diversion angle, and fracture width profile corresponding to different numbers of temporary plugging stages. Numerical simulations reveal that the primary controlling factor influencing the extension of fractures is the horizontal stress difference. A smaller horizontal stress difference makes fracture diversion easier, resulting in larger redirection radii. The impact of fracturing fluid viscosity on the diversion radius and diversion angle of fractures can be deemed negligible. Larger injection rates during construction facilitate easier diversion, leading to larger diversion radii. Furthermore, when the initial fracture angle exceeds 90°, the diversion radius of fractures is significantly larger compared to cases where the initial fracture angle is less than 90°, indicating a more facile diversion of fractures. The physical properties of shale reservoirs are typically poor, necessitating the use of fracturing technology for effective development. However, the high clay content prevalent in shale formations poses significant challenges for conventional hydraulic fracturing methods. To address this issue, CO2-based fracturing fluid has been proposed as an alternative to mitigate the damage caused by water-based fracturing fluids. In this paper, the applicability of quasi-dry CO2 fracturing in shale reservoirs is examined from three key perspectives: the viscosity of CO2 fracturing fluid, the fracture characteristics induced by the CO2 fracture fluid, and the potential reservoir damage caused by the fracturing fluid. Firstly, the viscosity of CO2 fracturing fluid was determined by a rheological experiment. Rheological tests revealed that the viscosity of CO2 fracturing fluid was significantly influenced by the water–carbon ratio. Specifically, when the water–carbon ratio was 30:70, the maximum viscosity observed could reach 104 mPa·s. Moreover, increasing reservoir temperature resulted in decreased fracturing fluid viscosity, with a 40 °C temperature rise causing a 20% viscosity reduction. Secondly, matrix permeability tests were conducted to investigate permeability alteration during CO2 fracturing fluid invasion. Due to the weak acidity of CO2-based fracturing fluid, the permeability reduction induced by clay hydration was inhibited, and an increase in permeability was observed after a 3-day duration. However, the matrix permeability tends to decrease as the interaction time is prolonged, which means prolonged soaking time can still cause formation damage. Finally, triaxial fracturing experiments facilitated by a three-axis servo pressure device were conducted. The fracture properties were characterized using computed tomography (CT), and 3D reconstruction of fractured samples was conducted based on the CT data. The results demonstrate that CO2 fracturing fluid effectively activates weak cementation surfaces in the rock, promoting the formation of larger and more complex fractures. Hence, CO2 quasi-dry fracturing technology emerges as a method with significant potential, capable of efficiently stimulating shale reservoirs, although a reasonable soaking time is necessary to maximize hydrocarbon production. CO2 pre-fracturing technology represents a novel approach to CO2 fracturing, effectively enhancing carbon capture efficiency in shale reservoirs while increasing the recovery of hydrocarbon resources. This study systematically quantifies the impact of water injection on the pore structure and permeability of shale samples saturated with pre-injected CO2. Based on X-ray diffraction (XRD) and low-temperature nitrogen adsorption (LT-NA) results, the dominant mechanism of the swelling-chemical coupling effect in shale property is clarified. Pre-injected CO2 can effectively mitigate the impact of water absorption. After a reaction time of 7 days, the permeability of the CO2-involved hydrated shale samples is four times that of samples without CO2. Nevertheless, the influence of subsequently injected water on shale permeability persists, resulting in an 80% reduction in shale permeability. XRD and LT-NA results indicate that the swelling-chemical coupling effect is the dominant factor in shale property variation during CO2 pre-fracturing. In the initial stage, the decline in calcite and clay mineral content is significant, and chemical dissolution dominates the change in pore structure. As the reaction progresses, the intensity of chemical reactions weakens, and clay mineral swelling becomes the primary factor affecting the shale properties. In this stage, K+ generated from original minerals effectively inhibits clay mineral swelling. Therefore, the swelling-chemical coupling effects should be comprehensively considered during the CO2 pre-fracturing process, and an appropriate soaking time should be selected to maximize CO2 storage efficiency and oil and gas production. Three-dimensional reconstruction is a key technology employed to represent virtual reality in the real world, which is valuable in computer vision. Large-scale 3D models have broad application prospects in the fields of smart cities, navigation, virtual tourism, disaster warning, and search-and-rescue missions. Unfortunately, most image-based studies currently prioritize the speed and accuracy of 3D reconstruction in indoor scenes. While there are some studies that address large-scale scenes, there has been a lack of systematic comprehensive efforts to bring together the advancements made in the field of 3D reconstruction in large-scale scenes. Hence, this paper presents a comprehensive overview of a 3D reconstruction technique that utilizes multi-view imagery from large-scale scenes. In this article, a comprehensive summary and analysis of vision-based 3D reconstruction technology for large-scale scenes are presented. The 3D reconstruction algorithms are extensively categorized into traditional and learning-based methods. Furthermore, these methods can be categorized based on whether the sensor actively illuminates objects with light sources, resulting in two categories: active and passive methods. Two active methods, namely, structured light and laser scanning, are briefly introduced. The focus then shifts to structure from motion (SfM), stereo matching, and multi-view stereo (MVS), encompassing both traditional and learning-based approaches. Additionally, a novel approach of neural-radiance-field-based 3D reconstruction is introduced. The workflow and improvements in large-scale scenes are elaborated upon. Subsequently, some well-known datasets and evaluation metrics for various 3D reconstruction tasks are introduced. Lastly, a summary of the challenges encountered in the application of 3D reconstruction technology in large-scale outdoor scenes is provided, along with predictions for future trends in development.
