Exploring the response of spatial and temporal characteristics of ecological quality change to aridity on the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau (QTP) can provide valuable information for regional ecological protection, water resource management, and climate change adaptation. In this study, we constructed the Remote Sensing Ecological Index (RSEI) and Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI) based on the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform with regional characteristics and completely analyzed the spatial and temporal variations of aridity and ecological quality on the QTP in the years 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015, and 2020. Additionally, we explored the responses of ecological quality to aridity indices at six different time scales. The Mann–Kendall test, correlation analysis, and significance test were used to study the spatial and temporal distribution characteristics of meteorological aridity at different time scales on the QTP and their impacts on the quality of the ecological environment. The results show that the ecological environmental quality of the QTP has a clear spatial distribution pattern. The ecological environment quality is significantly better in the south-east, while the Qaidam Basin and the west have lower ecological environment quality indices, but the overall trend of environmental quality is getting better. The Aridity Index of the QTP shows a differentiated spatial and temporal distribution pattern, with higher Aridity Indexes in the north-eastern and south-western parts of the plateau and lower Aridity Indexes in the central part of the plateau at shorter time scales. Monthly, seasonal, and annual-scale SPEI values showed an increasing trend. There is a correlation between aridity conditions and ecological quality on the QTP. The areas with significant positive correlation between the RSEI and SPEI in the study area were mainly concentrated in the south-eastern, south-western, and northern parts of the QTP, where the ecological quality of the environment is more seriously affected by meteorological aridity. The residual displacement of a bridge column governs its functionality after a severe earthquake. A box girder bridge was selected as a case study. Pushover analysis, quasi-static cyclic analysis, incremental dynamic analysis and fragility analysis were conducted to compare the seismic performance of the reinforced concrete column, the unbonded prestressed reinforced concrete column (UBPRC column) and the unbonded prestressed reinforced concrete column using superelastic shape memory alloy (UBPRC-SMA column). The threshold loading plateau axial load ratio was recommended in designing a UBPRC-SMA column, thereby ensuring the self-centering performance of a bridge column with fewer superelastic SMA bars. The self-centering performance was considered in the fragility analysis, and the results show that the UBPRC-SMA column suffers the least damage for the collapse damage state. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In a suspension bridge, slippage may occur at the saddle–cable interface during an earthquake. A refined finite element model of the saddle–cable interface is proposed which considers the compressive force and friction force at the curved contact surface. To investigate the saddle–cable slippage during an earthquake, the finite element model of a suspension bridge was built, and nonlinear time history analysis was conducted. Furthermore, the effects of the friction coefficient at the saddle–cable interface, the pounding between the suspension bridge and the approach bridges, the fluid viscous damper, and the rigid central buckle were evaluated by parametric analysis. The result shows that the saddle–cable slippage affects the overall seismic response of the suspension bridge slightly. The saddle–cable slippage is affected significantly by the friction coefficient of the saddle–cable interface, fluid viscous damper, and the rigid central buckle. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Cutting-edge mid-wavelength infrared (MWIR) sensing technologies leverage infrared photodetectors, memory units, and computing units to enhance machine vision. Real-time processing and decision-making challenges emerge with the increasing number of intelligent pixels. However, current operations are limited to in-sensor computing capabilities for near-infrared technology, and high-performance MWIR detectors for multi-state switching functions are lacking. Here, we demonstrate a non-volatile MoS2/black phosphorus (BP) heterojunction MWIR photovoltaic detector featuring a semi-floating gate structure design, integrating near- to mid-infrared photodetection, memory and computing (PMC) functionalities. The PMC device exhibits the property of being able to store a stable responsivity, which varies linearly with the stored conductance state. Significantly, device weights (stable responsivity) can be programmed with power consumption as low as 1.8 fJ, and the blackbody peak responsivity can reach 1.68 A/W for the MWIR band. In the simulation of Faster Region with convolution neural network (CNN) based on the FLIR dataset, the PMC hardware responsivity weights can reach 89% mean Average Precision index of the feature extraction network software weights. This MWIR photovoltaic detector, with its versatile functionalities, holds significant promise for applications in advanced infrared object detection and recognition systems. In-sensor computing architectures can provide energy-efficient multifunctional capabilities, but their application to the mid-infrared range is challenging. Parental involvement may influence the subjective well-being of primary school students, but the specific mechanisms remain unclear. This study explores the mechanisms between parental involvement and primary school students' subjective well-being. The current study investigated 340 fifth and sixth grade students and their parents from a primary school using the Parental Education Involvement Behavior Scale, the Well-Being Scale, the Sense of Security Scale, and the Learning Self-Regulation Scale. We found that (1) sense of security plays a complete mediating role between parental involvement and primary school students' subjective well-being; (2) autonomous motivation has a marginal mediating effect between parental involvement and subjective well-being of primary school students; and (3) sense of security and autonomous motivation play a chain mediating role between parents' educational involvement and primary school students' well-being. In conclusion, parental involvement appears to contribute to primary school children's subjective well-being, and this effect may be mediated individually and sequentially by the children's sense of security and autonomous motivation. Hemicellulose is one of the most important natural polysaccharides in nature. Hemicellulose from different sources varies in chemical composition and structure, which in turn affects the modification effects and industrial applications. Grain and oil by-products (GOBPs) are important raw materials for hemicellulose. This article reviews the modification methods of hemicellulose in GOBPs. The effects of chemical and physical modification methods on the properties of GOBP hemicellulose biomaterials are evaluated. The potential applications of modified GOBP hemicellulose are discussed, including its use in film production, hydrogel formation, three-dimensional (3D) printing materials, and adsorbents for environmental remediation. Summary: Polyploidy is an important evolutionary force, yet epigenetic mechanisms, such as DNA methylation, that regulate genome‐wide expression of duplicated genes remain largely unknown. Here, we use Tragopogon (Asteraceae) as a model system to discover patterns and temporal dynamics of DNA methylation in recently formed polyploids.The naturally occurring allotetraploid Tragopogon miscellus formed in the last 95–100 yr from parental diploids Tragopogon dubius and T. pratensis. We profiled the DNA methylomes of these three species using whole‐genome bisulfite sequencing.Genome‐wide methylation levels in T. miscellus were intermediate between its diploid parents. However, nonadditive CG and CHG methylation occurred in transposable elements (TEs), with variation among TE types. Most differentially methylated regions (DMRs) showed parental legacy, but some novel DMRs were detected in the polyploid. Differentially methylated genes (DMGs) were also identified and characterized.This study provides the first assessment of both overall and locus‐specific patterns of DNA methylation in a recent natural allopolyploid and shows that novel methylation variants can be generated rapidly after polyploid formation. Together, these results demonstrate that mechanisms to regulate duplicate gene expression may arise soon after allopolyploid formation and that these mechanisms vary among genes. As an effective measure to decrease the residual displacement under earthquakes, unbonded prestressed concrete (UBPRC) columns have been carefully investigated in previous research, while the influence of the complex characteristics of near-fault excitations on the residual displacement of UBPRC is less mentioned. This paper, therefore, focuses on the influence mechanism of the pulse effect and vertical effect of near-fault ground motions on the residual displacement of UBPRC columns. The residual displacement, at first, is formulated as a function of the coupled parameter T1-p (the ratio of the structural period to the pulse period). Then, the effect of near-fault vertical ground motion on the residual displacement is qualified based on the established mathematical model. Further, the model has been applied to investigate the effect of structural properties (dead load axial compression ratio, longitudinal reinforcement ratio, prestressing axial compression ratio, prestressing reinforcement ratio) on the residual displacement of UBPRC columns subjected to the joint action of horizontal and vertical ground motions. This research provides a quantitative methodology to quickly obtain the residual displacement spectra of the UBPRC columns under varying conditions combined with ground motion and structural parameters.
