The current recommendation for postoperative radiotherapy for esophageal cancer in China is mainly based on the data of incomplete two-field dissection of open left thoracotomy. At present, the type of surgery for esophageal cancer gradually transitions from open left thoracotomy to open right thoracotomy and from open esophagectomy to minimally invasive esophagectomy (MIE). Patients with early-stage esophageal cancer are selected as candidates for MIE. MIE is less invasive than open esophagectomy, and the right thoracic approach is conducive to more thorough lymph node dissection. However, few data and related studies are available on the patterns of failure after MIE in esophageal cancer, and guiding an adjuvant therapy is difficult. The feasibility of an adjuvant therapy for selective high-risk patients and the optimized treatment after MIE remains to be explored in clinical practice. In this regard, this article aims to review the safety of MIE, long-term survival outcomes, postoperative recurrence patterns, and recurrence rates of patients to discuss the value of postoperative adjuvant therapy and guide clinical treatment.

A model for the volume composition of mineral materials with a skeleton structure formed by coarse aggregate of crushed stones, and skeleton voids filled by fine weathered rock aggregates and cement as fine materials was formed. The optimal design method of gradation for the skeleton dense structure based on the theoretical formula for fine aggregates dosage was proposed, which was demonstrated and validated through example applications. The results show that the designed cement stabilized crushed stone mixed fine weathered rock aggregates (gradation 2#) has the smallest air void and the largest degree of compaction, which is a skeleton dense structure in practice. The 7 day-unconfined compressive strength of Grade 2# is the highest, 19.1% higher than Grade 3# and 7.9% higher than Grade 4#, meeting the basic strength requirements of the base layer of high-grade highways with heavy traffic, its tensile strength is 16.4% higher than that of Grade 3# and only 6.6% lower than Grade 4#, which verifies the feasibility and rationality of the grading optimization design method. Stone matrix asphalt and asphalt concrete mixture with 13.2 mm nominal maximum aggregate size (named SMA13 and AC13, respectively) are widely used in the surface course of asphalt pavement in China. Generally, the pavement performance of SMA13 is superior to that of AC13, while the cost of the former is significantly higher than that of the latter. The objective of this paper was to develop a new hot mix asphalt (named SMAC13) whose performance and cost are between SMA13 and AC13. A boundary sieve size (BSS) of 2.36 mm was selected between fine and coarse aggregates. Based on the union set of aggregate gradation ranges of SMA13 and AC13, the family of gradation curves in the forms of S shapes were designed in terms of the BSS passing rate. According to the evaluation of the skeleton interlock of coarse aggregate of the gradation curve family, the aggregate gradation range of SMAC13 was determined. Also, the performance of three kinds of asphalt mixtures were compared through laboratory tests. The results indicated that SMA13 shows the best rutting resistance, followed by SMAC13 then AC13, while in terms of low-temperature performance in resistance to cracking, the sequence is SMAC13, AC13, and SMA13. The sequence of water stability is AC13, SMAC13, and SMA13. Furthermore, the cost of SMAC13 is 25% less than that of SMA13. Therefore, SMAC13 can be used as an alternative for the surface course of asphalt pavement in terms of performance and cost. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
